Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A 61-year-old New Jersey man frustrated over debt collection notices and calls he received from a Rent-A-Center walked into the business Tuesday and set himself ablaze in front of employees and customers. "He basically pulled out a bottle of lighter fluid, poured it all over his body, pulled out a cigarette lighter and lit himself on fire," Bloomfield Police Capt. Chris Goul said.

Fortunately, staff managed to rescue his wallet and bring his payments up to date.

At least he didn't shoot everybody first.

White people don't use "Rent-a-Center".
FACT!!!

Must have wanted to rent the weekly HOT DEAL.

Build a man a fire and you can keep him warm for a night.

Set a man on fire and you can keep him warm for the rest of his life.

great economy, thanks george you nazi you.

I guess he didn't succeed in killing himself and I bet the M.F. won't pay his medical bills either. Instead of being a regular deadbeat this guy is a charbroiled deadbeat.

Lighters don't kill people....

Another example of our wasting our precious oil resources.

great economy, thanks george you nazi you.

I suspect this guy would probably have serious issues regardless of who is president and how the economy is going.

I really don't understand the whole idea of renting furniture. I guess if you're sent away for work and you need to furnish an apartment for a couple of months, then maybe it makes sense (plus, it makes billing clients simpler). I've always found that it's just a lot easier to hit up the Salvation Army and furnish a temporary apartment that way.

great economy, thanks george you nazi you.

Ok retard.

"We don't know if he had mental health issues or what sparked it," he said. "Employees said he'd always been a nice man."

Um, wasn't it a lighter?

Retards.

""We don't know if he had mental health issues"

I think it would be a fairly safe bet that he had mental health issues.

And You're wrong 101, all colors of stupid people use Rent-A-Center. Better make that payment or they'll be around later to pick up your computer and TV.

Danni,
Of all the whoppers you type here daily that has to be the biggest.
Not one white person has ever rented from Rent-a-center.
It's only for minorities.
FACTAMUNDO!!!

Tap, Tap, Tap on this guy's shoulder. Hello, this is Mr. Darwin, paging Emilio Saladriagas, can you come to the front desk and bring the lighter fluid with you. Ok, seriously, we know what he did, but this isn't the best way to handle a situation.

Emilio Saladriagas.

from the article....

"Employees rushed to get water to extinguish the blaze. The 62-year-old man, Emilio Saladriagas, was taken to the burn unit at Saint Barnabas Medical Center for treatment. "

The time to hesitate is through.

No time to wallow in the mire.

Try now we can only lose...

suggest you get a book and read it dealing with living from paycheck to ypaycheck. most americans do live that way. also, see if you can find someone to help you pull your head out of your ass

That's odd 101, I never knew you were black before.

"Holding on to anger is like holding on to a hot coal with the intent of throwing it
at someone else; you are the one who gets burned."

Danni is right, I am sure she rents from them.

It pains me to say this, but not even Danni is that fucking stupid.

You know you have the hots for Danni, 101, you always have. I just don't think she's going to ever do favors, er, change flavors for you, no matter how hard you get, er, uh, try.

Damn, the army needs men.

That's odd 101, I never knew you were black before.

Before what?

File under "Why this place sucks"

When I saw the headline I thought of how the only Rent-a-Center I've ever seen was in the neighborhood I lived in when I first moved out of my parents' house. Then I read the article and as it turns out, this happened at the same place. And I wasn't surprised at all.

Lee Russ: Self-imolation caused by reading Rush Limbaugh book

How much of a carbon footprint did this cause?!

I say tax the hell out of him of polluting the earth and being an ecoterrorist!

yeah, blame it on bush the younger - conversely, i think i'll blame it on him that we've furnished our home for under $1,000. thank you, george, for giving us the foresight to spend only as our budget allows and leaving us enough money to go out and have fun instead.

thank you, george, for the antique cherrywood dining set i found at a yard sale for $50.

thank you, george, for giving me a husband who knows how to utilize our various saws so that he could build bed frames for our childrens' beds.

thank you, george, for that maytag washer i found EXACTLY like the one i got from my parents for $50. at a second hand store.

i could go on and on, but i do believe anybody with a lick of sense could figure this out on their own.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!

wtf would anybody use "rent-a-center"? i believe to rent a washer it's something like $35. a week - THAT'S $140. a MONTH!

What could your kids do with the $300+ a month for beer?

(12 pack a day X $10 + tax)

God I hope Nanc isn't giving her kids beer.

Should we call the authorities?

12 pack in 5 days, I believe AU.

He drinks a twelver on the weekdays is what she said. And why bring that up? Not nice.

funny - our kidz want for nothing. we've taught them needs are more important. they save their allowances and are more than charitable. some of their friends think we're RICHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! bwaaahahahaha!

besides that, they're wine connoisiuers!

y'all're sure trying to keep up on the nancster...what do you do in your off time?

I wasn't being snarky putting the monthly tab in perspective of her post. It adds up.

And I believe NANC said he drinks a 12 pack on weekdays and a case on the weekends.

I don't have a bone to pick with NANC. She's pretty cool for a right winger LOL

crazy fuck is burned to shit and the bushies cheer.....sad to see the facade of compassionate conservatism fall. i had hoped there was a little humanity in that group but only chortles and racism...way to go gop

some people spend that much going to the theater or nascar (heaven forbid)!

a.u. - he could also be out at a tavern playing pool for whatever that costs - plus buying rounds - plus getting a ticket or worse on his way home...two or three hundred bucks ISN'T that much in the grand scheme of things, now is it?

as i've said before, if he wants to pop a few cold ones after work while doing his woodworking or gardening before supper who am i to deny him?

yeah, badger, because we lead people to their destinies by the shorthairs! dang, we're good.

yes....you have quite a track record....keep up the good work

NANC

I guess so. I really wasn't trying to be snarky. Just point out that from what you've said (12 pk weekdays/2 cases per weekend) you're spending $400+ a month on beer. That could buy a lot of things. I was pointing that out in perspective of your previous post.

Like I said, you're alright for a right winger. I wasn't trying to offend you or cast judgment.

:-)

i'm a human first.

some people spend that much a DAY on dope!

we won't have ANYBODY telling us how to spend our hardearned money.

p.s. - what could $300-400 a month buy that we don't already have, a.u.? we would like a boat, but honestly - who can afford the fuel?!?

p.s. - what could $300-400 a month buy that we don't already have

I hope you're funding your future retirement.

NANC

I was a power boat owner to whom this saying applied:
"The two best days in a boat owners life are the day he bought it and the day he sells it". It was a lemon.

I've though about buying another boat, but it will be a sailboat. On days where it's still the little electric motors use little energy and will get you on the water. You can buy a pretty nice sailboat with cabin, et al used for $10-12,000.

Ya, I'd never buy a power boat for a lot of reasons. One being, as you suggested, gas is expensive. They charge more for it at marinas too.

NANC

There's a lot more places to go on a sailboat than a powerboat. Topside, the cabin. If you get a little larger one you can even go camping in it. I get to take out my buddy's sailboat pretty often. It's really peaceful and quiet.

Something to think about in your case if you get a boat. I don't know where you live, but we have pretty much 365 day a year boating.

we've always had a canoe. we're thinking about getting a pelican pedal boat. and, we also have a trolling motor if we need it.

i love skiing and boarding, but realized we could get the same benefits from other activities, although a fast-ass ski boat would be preferable!

whatsleft - what business is it of yours? but since you asked - we'll have a home, several vehicles, two in college and everything else PAID OFF! we also garden, do woodworking and there is nary an engine or motor my husband cannot figure out and repair to brand new. he's also a bassmaster...master baiter in your language...

I'd like to get another raft. I like to float the rivers and fish.

a.u. - one CAN boat here 365, with much intestinal fortitude - tornado season can be a bit much!

we have a pop up camper and tents for camping. we used to rent large houseboats with friends and sleeping on the water is for better sissies than i! much prefer dry ground for sleeping.

whatsleft - raft? guess we should start calling you mark twain?

whatsleft - what business is it of yours?

I'm not trying to be a pain tonight. It's none of my business. I'm just saying SS won't be enough, even if it still exists. Put away some money.

Nanc, they have a lot of bass tournaments at the lake near me. It's a beautiful clear and clean lake with 120 miles of virgin coastline. There are several state parks with camping on it.

When I go camping, I hop in the car and I'm home in under 10 minutes to shower.

I LOVE the water! Nothing like it.

Have a good one...

AU

guess we should start calling you mark twain?

Not that kind of raft....something more like this..
www.boatstogo.com

a.u. - we're near lake bull shoals, beaver and norfork in arkansas - thousands of miles of shoreline - we love the water also.

whatsleft - what makes you think we haven't? what makes you think we haven't been buying gold, silver, weapons, bourbon, and tobacco for the last ten years? i'm not the one who needs a clue - i saw this mess coming for many years.

i would NEVER get on one of those!

i'd sooner body surf during riptide in august in san diego!

my motto - never do anything you need a helmet for.

whatsleft - what makes you think we haven't?

Pretty much everything else you've said on this thread.

Good night Nanc.

......I had some hot halapinos and my rectum was on fire for two days after......

Can I funny flag this entire thread, rcade?

Damn... 101, Danni, NG3, CBOB, RIR, Oohrah, Trueblue.. thanks. I'm nearly in tears.

Going to the theater of the race doesn't destroy one's liver and kidneys, pickle the brain, etc.

I hope you have put away lots of money for a good DUI lawyer and subsequent fines. If what you say is correct and he slurps down a 12 pack each evening, then he is way over the limit for a DUI and because of this consistent drinking, he could be pulled over going to work in the morning, tested, and still be way over the legal limit

You are amazingly tolerant of you SO's alcoholism.

Yet you trot it out frequently like it is some type of badge of honor. Strange...

The test: Can your SO go 2 days without a beer and not turn into a cranky, abusive SOB?

that would be extremely funny, zot - IF i were the one who TROTTED it out. reread the thread.

If I reached the point in life where my living room sofa was one into which 100 other people had farted, I guess self-immolation may be an option.

hey nanc - we live not far from you - close to Table Rock Lake, and you're right, it's the perfect place for boating. My hubby got a bass boat last year as a trade for some work he did, but we haven't been able to get out in it yet this year. That's on the to-do list.

YA- NOW THATS WHAT I CALL A PROTEST!!!!

White people don't use "Rent-a-Center".
FACT!!!

Yeah, he's right! I'm white and I use a place called Aaron's.

You know what those places are, chairborne? Godsends to people with irrecoverably bad credit. (Thanks again, you damned illegal fucks who stole my identity) If it werne't for places like that, my HDTV wouldn't be a Sony, it would be a VUZE or some other crappy breakdown brand. Sure, I paid about 25% over market value when all was said and done, but I have a TV that will last for years and years and years to come.

Sometimes, Salvation Army furniture just doesn't do it for you and you want something with a little quality to it. If you can't get credit; you get a lease. (which actually builds credit)

Don't take this the wrong way, or do, but if you're poor, the last thing you need is an HDTV by sony or huze.
Part of the reason you're poor is because you paid 25% over market value and you think that's a good thing.

I'm far from poor and guess what? I have a 27" console tv that I paid less than $150 for.

If you want to build credit get a secured credit card. It's a start.

Actually, a lease place builds credit faster then a secured credit card. And those things are hideous scams. My brother went over the limit by 2 dollars once (which isn't supposed to be POSSIBLE), and they tried to hit him with a $100 charge which grew to 2 thousand in a year. Unlike my credit, my wife's can be repaired and we're doing so.

The lease place can't do squat to me except demand I pay on time, or they take it away. Sure, I coulda leased a couch instead for the exact same money... but I'm getting more USE out of the HDTV. If my prime source of pleasure in life were sometihng other then the video games my wife and I play together, I might have leased something else instead. After I complete two lease-to-purchase items from the place, I then get to instead buy from them on credit; which cuts the 25% over market value down to something more like 5% over market value. After that point, I (well she) then has sufficient credit to get a DECENT rate on a car or business loan.

These things really ARE a godsend to the credit-challenged. They faithfully report every month that the payment is made on time, unlike utilities who only even bother the three agencies if you miss a payment. Most banks don't even do that on a loan. You don't even build credit that well with a regular credit card. You do pay a premium for the service.. but it's a fine service.

Plus, I'm not really THAT poor. While I walk a line near poverty, I could go a 90 days unemployed before danger exists.

Or have a medical problem. That would screw me quickly.
