In an interview with Chris Matthews on Hardball, former White House press secretary Scott McClellan said that Fox News commentators were used as "spokespeople" and fed regular talking points.

"No shit, Sherlock" flag. Of course, someone will be along shortly to dismiss McClellan as a vindictive crybaby just trying to make a buck.

NESS

The Rushbots are running from Bush as fast as they can. Thank God the Dems took Congress in 2006 or there's no telling what Bush and Co would have done.

Something we all knew, something that was documented in the documentary "Outfoxed!" and yet denied, excused, ignored by the "right" proves true.

I saw the interview with McClellan. He didn't seem the least bit vindictive. He seemed more interested that the question was asked and a bit incredulous that anyone would be surprised. More of a "of course, why would we not do that?"

I'm annoyed that this reported and commented "revelation" seemed to surprise journalists.

"Enough with the fair and balanced-- crap already"
------
"I make a distinction between the journalists and the commentators."

Do'h! -- Ness

This is not a shock to most Americans. What Scott M did was confirm the worse. But alas, rightwingers are so shameless, that rather than admit this is low, they will now spin and say in the immortal words of the WORST VP in History and a truly evil man Dick Cheney: "SO"

Ness, AU, etc. --

You clearly know dick about the news business.

All commentators are in bed with politicians, not just those on Fox. But also media sluts like Mike Wallace, George Snuffelufogous, Bob Schieffer, Ed Bradley, and so on.

Actual reporters on actual news programs (not screaming heads shows) are different, and McClellan makes that distinction.

All commentators are in bed with politicians, not just those on Fox. But also media sluts like Mike Wallace, George Snuffelufogous, Bob Schieffer, Ed Bradley, and so on.

VERN

-Wallace doesn't really do politics on 60 Minutes
-George Steph seems to try too hard to be impartial
-Shieffer I don't get at all. He's one of the most impartial
-Bradley doesn't do politics on 60 Minutes

Not the most convincing examples you could have given.

I don't view the major networks as biased. They don't engage in punditry on their broadcasts. Andrea Mitchell seems to take a more right tone IMO.

The ones that do are all on cable networks. And ya, their slants are pretty obvious.

BTW VERNON

If you didn't see my post last week I said I thought what you did for the school kids in the PI was terrific. It's amazing how a little money can do so much in some parts of the world.

I've spent time in the PI. Loved it and loved the people.

"Not the most convincing examples you could have given."

I agree it's not the best list, but I don't watch screaming head shows. I have seen obvious bias in those I mentioned, however, even if it weren't political bias.

The greater point is that there is a huge distinction between commentators and journalists.

Of course the White House saw Fox commentators as a tool. All politicians feed information to reporters and commentators they happen to like.

This thread only exists so Danni and her ilk can posture about Fox. Faux outrage

Thank you for your kind words. A few hundred bucks changes the world for a lot of people.

FoxNews is nothing more than a secular political version of Jack Van Impe like televangelists.

Just like the 'news' on Iraq and America delivered by FoxnNews, Van Impe had to move the date the Soviets were going to annihilate us with nuclear weapons year to year when they didn't on his timeline.

They are the closest analogy to a religious network in 'news'.

Poor Vernon-its finally dawning on him that the chocolate Bush victory cake FOX was feeding him was really just bullshit.

Now if he could only figure out oil isn't $30 a barrel....

"All commentators are in bed with politicians, not just those on Fox. But also media sluts like Mike Wallace, George Snuffelufogous, Bob Schieffer, Ed Bradley, and so on."

Ahhhh, the old "They do it too (and worse)" defense. That MIGHT work if the other folks were also claiming to be "fair and balanced".

"were used"?? Tense is wrong.

In other news:

The sun will rise in the east tomorrow.

The corporate media is all bought by the same @ssholes who own all the politicians. They own this county. You and i rent. That's it. Period.

This thread only exists so VERMIN can spew his fake claims of fake outrage.

Another reason not to watch Fox, except for the Simpsons.

I guess Fox News can lay claim to being the new "Ministry of Propaganda".Hitler would have been proud.

I get all my Faux News from Faux News!

Faux is the new Vrai!

Poor Mclleland...

Having betrayed the Bush administrationa for 30 pieces of silver, and feeling the guilt and heat from the responses, he is now hurt and getting deeper into retaliation and making himself sink to the abyss.

Like the prodigal son, come to yourself and stop feeding the crocodile liberals.

That is some colorful blogging there Takitez, with a heavy dose of purple in your prose, and thank you for the misplaced analogies and other tomfoolery.

The fake outrage here is ridiculous. Chris Mathews and Keith Olbermann hold daily briefings with their masters over at the democratic national committee.

Keith, is an especially rabid and vile democrat frontman. He is also a master of the telemprompter just like his vampire master Barackula.

FOX is a propaganda mill for Bush?

Really? I NEVER would have guessed.

Besides, we all know that when FUX Noise won't answer the call, the Bush admin just create fake news stories and pay reporters to report them.

Chris Matthews and the Clinton Press(CNN,MSNBC,NBC)please... Don't tell me they are fair and balance.
Since Bush won both elections, all I have heard is crying from the left.
So tell me where is the energy policy the Dem's promise us....

I don't believe you ASSHOLE libs can complain about FOX when your dirt bag news media follows the New York Times (I mean SLIME) talking points which are approved by George Soros.

"Chris Matthews and the Clinton Press(CNN,MSNBC,NBC)please... Don't tell me they are fair and balance."

I haven't seen anyone who claims they are. Maybe you're confusing them with Fox News?

AGAIN, the point is NOT whether a news source is "fair and balanced" UNLESS they claim they ARE!

Oh, and the name calling (just how old ARE some of you?!) is not working either.

Meanwhile, for those convinced that the MSM is pro Democrats, here's a report on a recent contrary study:

ask Chris Hussein Matthews the same question

I'm annoyed that this reported and commented "revelation" seemed to surprise journalists.

Because they are co-conspirators in the whole thing. If they acknowledged what was blatantly obvious, then their coverage would have to include discussions of this beginning years ago... but it's a club, journalism... ultimately they're all just pals paying their mortgages just like anyone else.

They have as much invested in not rocking the boat as anybody.

BSNBC's using a standard liberal approach....always defend a traitor.

Isn't it remarkable how liberals are abusively intolerant of any delusion that does not match there own?

It makes no difference how you say it, your bias was formed, early in your life, by the people with whom you have interacted most frequently. If most of the discussions you're involved with, or overhear, lean in one direction or the other, THAT IS HOW YOU WILL GO! At least, initially!

All news is biased, the owner and director of the news department, who select the majority of news to be broadcast, makes it BIASED. FOX is a center right organization, however, to me, it appears that SOME pertinent information, not available on any other channel, sometimes appears on this and other news sources. As such, it makes these sources AS valuable as any other, or even moreso!

I feel/hope I have the ability, to know good coverage from bad, to select out the info needed to decide what's best for me. I want as much input as possible before deciding. I don't care about the sources, I think/hope I am intelligent enough to come to a good, well rounded conclusion!

Even Rush Limbaugh has, once in a while, some good info. I don't agree with a lot of what he says, even though he has the right to his opinion, but I WILL listen to him from time to time, for a different outlook. He will cause me to pause, think, and reason why I do things a certain way. He DEFINATELY has another opinion.

If I don't balance ALL sources, I will NOT be well informed. Neither the Democrats nor Republicans have ALL the answers, although they would like for you to think so!

Even the so called EXPERTS, coming on the various shows, expressing their informed opinions, have ONE thing in common, when the show is over, they go home and never held to account for those opinions.

If these people ARE experts, why aren't they IN government? My mother, a very wise person, once told me a description of an Expert, 'A HAS BEEN drip, placed under EXTREME pressure'! A good description for most of them, I think!

Karl Rove, the WH employee, fed his future employer talking points. I'm shocked. Simply shocked.

Good grief--as if this doesn't happen on both sides of the spectrum.

At least there is a distinction with the reporters and the commentators.

Commentators are a separate class from reporters.

Just look and listen to Matthews, Overbite, Stephanopoulous--it's everywhere.

Because we all remember how badly it turns out when there is a reporter involved--ie Dan Rather and Rathergate.

There were reports that they were getting feed the BS from Kerry's campaign--who also put CBS in touch with the Burkert guy with the phony documents.

Bad--very bad..

We as the populace have to keep on guard with who and where we get our news.
