The Iraqi officer leading a U.S.-financed anti-jihadist group is in no mood for small talk -- either the military gives him more money or he will pack his bags and rejoin the ranks of al-Qaeda. "I'll go back to al-Qaeda if you stop backing the Sahwa (Awakening) groups," Col. Satar tells a U.S. lieutenant.

That is the serge at work for you.

I'm up for a little insurgency if there's good money to be made!

From one of Mcsame's contemporaries, Rudyard Kipling:

It is always a temptation to an armed and agile nation,
To call upon a neighbour and to say:
We invaded you last nightwe are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away.--

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That youve only to pay em the Dane-geld
And then youll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation to a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say:
Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away.--

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But weve proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray,
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say:

We never pay any one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost,
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that plays it is lost!--

"serge" is the russian soldier that lost his right arm in Afghanistan, "surge" is that echo you keep hearing from McCain.

If some guy is threatening to "go back to al-Qaeda" that means he never left it.

I somehow doubt al-Qaeda is an organization you can leave, oppose, and then just randomly rejoin.

ROFL!!!!

APPEASEMENT!!!!

BINGO!

Maybe he just wants more $$$ because of the dollars devaluation and/or would prefer Euros. Of course, Bushlovertwo will now reassure us that the progress is not only satisfactory, but is completed! What happens when "the juice" runs dry?

What happens when "the juice" runs dry?

Obama will be in office and the GOPpers will blame everything on him. Right now, it's all Clinton's penis' fault.

ANOTHER BINGO!

Y'all are sharp today!

NG3

Deja Vu from Carter's experience of coming into office, inheriting a massive debt from Vietnam, and then oil embargos that doubled gas and created inflation up the wazoo. It would have happened to anyone who went in the WH that term. But, of course, it was all Carter's fault, right?

He had a more pragmatic Fed Chairman though who raised interest rates to prevent a collapse of the banking system.

It's even more interesting when you understand that Reagan's 'arms for hostages' deal was designed to take effect AFTER the Reagan/Carter selection.

Why aren't they being paid their 'salary' by the Iraqi government? Are they not Iraqi citizens defending their homeland? If not, then they're part of the problem; however, If they're risking their lives then they deserve to get paid, by THEIR fucking government, not ours.

On the other hand, an act of sedition like threatening to 'rejoin' his former employer (Al Quaeda) should be answered decisively and heavy handed. This mans troops should be monitored - doesn't sound like they're too popular among the residents - maybe they're doing a little extortion for protection money from them as well?

dont forget we are also arming these home guard

The Bush administration probably knows, it's much easier to give people welfare then to take it away. Although, I doubt if this administation cares. But wait, it won't be BushCo's problem in a few months, will it. The effects of the 'surge' are likely to be wearing off at the end of January, no matter who wins the election.

More evidence we never should have gotten involved with this murderous pack of religious fanatics.

They about 10,000 years from democracy. Although it looks like McSame might keep us in Iraq that long.

If he is going to the High bidder, let AQ have him, then shoot the bastard.

Seems to me that we should quit dumping so much money ther and let some of that oil we fought to liberate pay the way.

i wonder if the bribes offered to these terrorists to stay mum for a couple of months are counted in mccain's campaign budget? surge indeed.

GWB; our brave fighting boys and girls, with the help of the brave generals and politicians, have successfully surged the turrurists into submission.

GWB (to cheney); how much do they want this week to stayed surged and submissive?

the bribes will end with obama.

the violence will resume.

the republif#ckers will blame the demos for f#cking up the war that they started.

the news will tell the moron public that the whole thing was the fault of the democratic congress

the imbecile populace will believe it

s.o.p.
