A 12-mile stretch of the Mississippi River is closed this morning after a tugboat collided with an tanker, causing thousands of barrels of diesel oil on a barge to spill into the waterway.

YEAH!

Drink Water Today EL? Oh yeah, you dont need to, you just suck the life essence from anything you come in contact with!

Ignorance kills dude.

Not fast enough in your case however.

Stay stupid. Prove it as often as you would like.

Thanks!

Unfortunate to say the least.

Bringing in the politics of drilling? Stupidity!

This is a really nice link to a book by Mark Twain about the mississippi river.

A very informative read.

The river will be just fine.

Uh, yeah.

MP - again, did you drive today? How are you powering the computer you are using? - Hypocritical bastard. Ignorance - your far past that point, your delusional.

It smells like fuel all over the place here. It is nauseating.

This happened in New Orleans.

The place already stinks like a sewer and should just be flushed down the toilet it's in.

Leave it to the French to build a city in a hole, surrounded by water

Taxman, answered you in the missile thread.

I wish I could post pictures on this site - from my office you can see the fuel on the river. They have "oil mops" being pulled by tugs which is supposed to trap it.

We can drill or we can go with alternative solutions.

Drilling more today will not effect my car or pc tomorrow.

Why are you so ignorant, as to think otherwise?

Now, what else don't you know jack shit about?

"Keeping America competitive requires affordable energy. And here we have a serious problem: America is addicted to oil, which is often imported from unstable parts of the world. The best way to break this addiction is through technology."

We can drill or we can go with alternative solutions.

Yes, ignorance. Hmmm. Drilling more today will not effect my car or pc tomorrow but developing alternative solutions will work overnight?

As I told DANNI, get off the pot!

YEAH!

But who do you blame for Building the Refineries! Pipelines and Storage Tanks in a hole surrounded by water?

Clinton?

Headlines you will never see:

Solar-panel spill closes river!
Windmill spill closes river!

Be Well.

And the Dutch, the Japanese, the English, etc.

Most major ports, that have a river system are below sea level.

The reason New Orleans was built there, is because it is a major port.

If the Army Corp of Engineers had built the levees properly in the first place, there wouldn't be a problem with being below sea level.

The Dutch did a pretty good job with being below sea level.

And the french built all those other towns and farms along the Mississippi that were underwater recently? Wow.
But they were pretty clever to build all the levees there.

Expect prices on various items to go up as a result of this closure. I just heard that it could be several days before the river is opened up again.

Here are some photos:

On the upside, the water probably tastes better.

I read that article and could not believe that there are some parishes that get their water from the River.

Let me change the subject a bit. Anybody want to bet the reason this happened has to do with a lack of oversight by some government entity that was downsized by the Bush or local conservative government for so called lack of funds? Smaller govt means bigger problems.

There we go. I wondered why it took so long for someone to blame Bush. We had it in the first post in another thread, took 22 here. Lefties must have missed this thread today.

According to Al we can replace all need for internal combustion in 10 years.......

And according to Obama, we can't bring a well on line for 10 years....
Gee you lefties have ALL the best answers...NOT!!!

Solar and wind set ups currently run at ubder 20% capacity due to low winds, and clouds. NOT to worry Al and Obama have it figured out...just don't ask them how...that's blasphemy!!!

Allowing questions or dissent is NOT permitted by the new anointed leaders!

DavetheWavwe-
"dissent"? Is that what the cool kids now call shilling for multinational oil companies who will just as likely as not sell the oil they get from your reserves to China as to you?

But who do you blame for Building the Refineries!

You, redneckshill -- and everyone who consumes petroleum products.

Are you really so dense you have to ask that question? Amazing.

There we go. I wondered why it took so long for someone to blame Bush.

While I agree that George probably gets more credit then he deserves, how long does it take for someone to blame "the leftists" for the worlds problems, over at littlegreenfootballs.com, or even here for that matter?

How long does it take for opposing viewpoints to be deleted at most of the right leaning forums?

Before you make comments such as you did, you might want to consider what site you're on.

Typical dr left. When confronted with truth that's so simple and contradictory to their radical wacko left thinking, they respond with half brained insults and deflections.

It's a world market dude. And after all, your Obama says that we can't go on driving, eating, or using AC cause "they" (ie the chinese for one) won't permit it

The American consumer didn't ask for the shift from glass to plastic containers 20 years ago. They didn't ask for the shift from electric streetcars to gas powered buses 60 years ago. This was all done at the behest of major corporations and profit.

Goat, you can blame individuals for a lot of things, but the trend toward all things petroleum is industry driven.

Goat, you can blame individuals for a lot of things, but the trend toward all things petroleum is industry driven.

It's consumer driven. People got tired of returning bottles, so they went to the convenience of plastic (as if that has a significant impact on petroleum consumption) It is our love affair with cars, our refusal to carpool, etc. that is driving petroleum consumption, which of course requires refineries.

"While I agree that George probably gets more credit then he deserves, how long does it take for someone to blame "the leftists" for the worlds problems,..."

Figure it out. I realize we can't blame our little leftist-socialist friends for EVERYTHING, but who opposes nuclear power plants? Who opposes killing terrorists? Who opposes resticting illegal immigration? Then, of course, you have that extreme rightist, Ted Kennedy, who opposes windmill power.

but who opposes nuclear power plants?

Hardly anyone around here.

Who opposes killing terrorists?

Apparently Bush does.

Who opposes resticting illegal immigration?

John McCain

Then, of course, you have that extreme rightist, Ted Kennedy, who opposes windmill power.

Just like those "leftists" in the Bush family who opposed drilling off of Florida.

None of which has anything to do with the *FACT* that you completely missed the point.

Just like those "leftists" in the Bush family who opposed drilling off of Florida.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a tiny little news item last week buried in the back page of the news about Bush opening up drilling off the coast of Florida?

Posted by goatman

You're correct! It's too bad the Bush brothers weren't interested while Jeb was Governor. Do you want to try to claim that George's positions on Florida drilling haven't been political either way? Just AS political as Teddy and the windmills?

Do you want to try to claim that George's positions on Florida drilling haven't been political either way?

Politically motivated if drilling is banned, politically motivated if it's not.

Yeah, I reckon. Whatever you say, whatsleftie
