Definitly an overrated player, but it always seemed like he was that go to guy when the Giants needed to keep a drive going in a tight game. A solid tight end in the NFL can be extremely valuable... I think the Giants were stupid to get rid of him, like the Eagles were stupid to get rid of Owens... sometimes you have to swallow your pride and just pay the asshole.

Jeremy fricking Shockey. I haven't seen a guy --- in the nfl -- trip a defensive back with a sure touchdown ever until he came along. I've seen guys ripped down by facemasks, late hits, etc. but never have I seen a 250lb man in desperation throw his leg out like hong kong fooey doing a leg sweep. that was hillarious and highly entertaining. good for the Saints -- he'll do well there.

This does weaken the Giants this year a bit as they are very thin at tight end right now. But Shockey was extremely overrated. He dropped a ton of balls. He was often hurt. His on field antics earned him too many stupid penalties. And his lack of maturity made it impossible for him to deal with the media stories re: Giants winning without him.

I'm not a big fan myself. But I'd have to say the first school to avoid in the draft is Penn State.

Great news for the Saints as Drew Brees loves to throw to TEs, and he hasn't had one since he has been in NOLA.

Saints win the south this year, but the NFC champion is coming out of the East - man is that a bear of a division.

I know, it seems like the gave up a lot for a strictly receiving TE.

actually shockey wasnt a bad blocker and since he has been in the league he is 2nd or 3rd in most stats as a TE (receving, yards, etc).

but he was too much of a distraction and too injury prone. I say good riddance and good luck in your new town. the tea totaler he is should do just fine in the big easy.

but he is reuniting with Sean Peyton, who will know how to better use him then any old coach... the Saints just got a lot better I think... the Giants lost a little, but not a ton (obviously since they won the SB without him). The thing is though coming into the NFC East this year, they have lost a few players now and two solid vets... the NFC East is too difficult to win like that...

disagree, the giants core is unchanged, they lost 3 starters from the SB, that is not bad at all, esp given Strahan was getting older and the younger pups will start stepping up. I see the Giants having a solid season

Two years ago I thought the Giants were going to win the Super Bowl and they went 8-8 and lost in the first round. Last year I thought they would go 6-10 and they won the Super Bowl. I've given up trying to predict them.

Look how Eli did without Shockey -when it was simplified with Plax as the goto guy with Toomer, et al, as his secondaries. Besides, Kevin Boss is pretty damn good, nobody has mentioned that fact.

Shockey was a problem for TEAM execution, although at times a stand out as an individual.

I don't think he's played enough to show whether he's good or not but I will say that so far he's made the most of it when they call his number. Same can't be said of Shockey, due to drops and stupid penalties. The knock on Boss has been his blocking but it didn't seem like a problem during the playoffs.

The guy had 57 receptions last year, tied for 45th in the league for all positions. He had just as many yards and TDs as Toomer. The Giants made it to the Super Bowl as a wild card and played close games all year. Taking away the second most productive offensive player on the team would have undoubtedly cost at least one game and a wc birth.

Shockey is a great blocker, and likes to block. He wants to play up the middle power football just like Coughlin. I think this was a dumb move by the Giants. They run lots of 2te sets, their #1rb needs help to make the outside, and their Oline--champions they may be--ain't that good.

The saints got the better end of this deal. Another young playmaker under the tutelage of one of the best play callers in the league.

Talking out of your ass/mouth/face again Rob? Shockey wanted a bigger role in the offense and was also annoyed he was not allowed on the field during the superbowl (out due to broken leg).So much so, he skipped the ring ceremony. It didn't have to do with payment.
