I think you're judging Obama by a standard you'd never apply to a candidate you favor. Every politician runs for office by talking about what he plans to do after being elected. Obama expressing nuclear security as a priority is no different than McCain continuing to beat the Islamofascist drum.

While it may be obvious that eliminating nukes should be a priority, how much did Bush accomplish in that area? How much did he even talk about the issue? I think he spent more time warning about the grave societal implications of embryonic stem-cell research.

And just like "eliminating" handguns, the result will be that only people who don't care about laws will have nuclear weapons.

If McCain announced a new campaign promise of eliminating the world of deer ticks, we'd all say, "Yes the world would be better without deer ticks," but he can't do it so we'd laugh at him and call him a pandering tool.

Obama CANNOT rid the world of nuclear weapons, it will never happen. The only way to rid the world of nuclear weapons is to render them obsolete... make it so they can't be used or can't reach their targets, or develop a better weapon. Other then that, nukes are here to stay.

And if he decides to take the initiative and destroy a lot of America's nukes, all that does is put us in a shit ton of trouble.

If he wants to put out JFKesque "Moon in this decade" type promises I would just rather see him set reachable goals... Maybe focus on energy... cars that don't run on gas, or developing other sources so we no longer have to import Middle Eastern oil by the end of his second term... That's something I would get behind... he has all this hope and excitement in his campaign, but he seems to be putting it into odd things...

On this topic, I'd beg to differ. We have the largest and most destructive conventional bombs on the planet. We have unmmatched air superiority, and we have the best trained ground forces with the most advanced armored vehicles.

If you're talking about men hiding by roadsides with detonators attached to IED's, then yes, those are difficult to defend against. In actual "combat" however, nobody can compete.
