A couple things. First, perhaps he was truly doing what he loved while serving in the White House. What a lofty honor to serve in such a role.

Second, like many cancer victims, he was likely of the mind he'd beat the disease. If one is of that mind, I think one would continue to live as normal a life as possible.

I agree with you that if he was given, say, 6 months to live... I would think he'd spend that time with things other than work. But that would be his choice... and we don't know the details of what his doctors might have told him. He did quit his White House job for health reasons. I don't know how extensive his FOX job might have been recently. My guess is he didn't spend much time at the network and, instead, did some of the very things you wondered about.

Mrs Oohrah is a breast cancer survivor. She has largely maintained a positive attitude about living her life as normally as possible. During her treatments and post-treatment follow ups she's encountered people with a variety of outlooks on how best to live out your life once you've had cancer.

Maybe they're the reason he took the press secretary job. He did a great job from what I saw, and he was a great family man. Too bad he had to be associated with the likes of Bush & Cheney.

It took Scott McClellan a while before he realized what he had participated in and maybe Snow would have eventually found God too but he'll never get the chance now. I will say he was good at what he did. Watching Perino these days makes me yearn for the days of Snow.

That said, here are a couple of other angles on it.

1. Some people give up. They are pessimistic... and have no hope.

2. Several in our church have had cancer and also have eventually died from it. Their attitude, to paraphrase, was that it was all part of God's plan... and not to fear death. Heaven is a much better place - a place without pain and suffering.

But I'm with you... I'm competitive - a fighter. I would do what I could to fight it, but I would also embrace point number two above. At least that's how I THINK I'd react. Hopefully it'll not come to that.

It was just after 9/11 when he first turned me against him. He was radio host at the time on WABC. A couple callers believed that it was in retaliation for American violence against Muslims. He quickly dismissed that idea. Wouldn't hear of it.

As Press Secretary he was asked if there was any concern about the mounting death toll in Iraq. He flippantly dismissed the death toll as a number.

In the strictest sense, no government has ever adopted that MO. From the time of the earliest civilizations of Sumeria and Egypt there was always an elite that ruled by force. There were peaceful civilizations that came close, but they were usually swallowed up by more powerful rulers.

By the way, this context issue got me thinking about the "great job, Brownie" comment from Bush. Do you know the context around that? I didn't until a couple of weeks ago. Bush, Brown and a couple other public officials were at some sort of ceremony/meeting where the officials were publically congratulating Brown on some of the things he'd done in relation to their community, etc.

There was a bit of a pause which called for some reaction from Bush... and that's what he said. What should/could Bush have said instead? What would you, in Bush's place, have said under those circumstances?
