Dr. Michael DeBakey, the world-famous cardiovascular surgeon who pioneered such now-common procedures as bypass surgery and invented a host of devices to help heart patients, died Friday night at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, officials announced. He was 99.

What a life! I remember reading about him as a child.

DeBakey contributed so much in the medical field & wasn't done living at 97 when he had an arota operation (which he pioneered) to save his life for another 2 years!

Unlike the hack Tony Snow, this is a man I can respect. A man who earned his way to live a long life.

It doesn't say in the article, but I could have sworn I first heard of him as Eisenhower's heart surgeon.

Can't believe he never got a Nobel for medicine. Tv says he invented the MASH units in WW2, so hecould have gotten one for entertainment too.

This guy helped a few people extend their lives. But, that was a long time ago. I'm sure glad he's finally dead.
