Why would you say that Obama has contempt for the Constitution? Have you even listened to anything he has said?

But, Bully for the the ACLU! However, we don't know whether this law is unconstitutional yet do we? That is a bit presumptuous of you don't think?

I don't like FISA either but I also agree with Obama's strategy of defusing it as an election issue so as to not allow the Rethugs to use it as Hammer in the upcoming election either.

I think, regrettably, President-to-be O'Bama voted for the goddam measure. herm

Freedom, even at the expense of the mechanism that proves them with this freedom.

This is a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. Bush will get criticized regardless of which road he chooses. A Democratic Congress and Senate approved it, yet the blind liberal media will always blame Bush and hide behind their rights.--

Responsible media is dead thanks to the NY TIMES and BSNBC.

The congressmen don't even know what's in it because they were not allowed to read it. What a crock of shit.

Go ACLU.

"Safety, at the expense of civil rights,
will only strengthen the tyrannical bully".

- Mahatma Ghandi

Well--if the SCOTUS can give AQ a lawyer--overturning the military tribunals that were voted and approved by Congress to address the enemy--Why not go sue over FISA?

The FISA is going after foreign overseas calls coming into the US.

There is a provision that calls for them to stay off US to US calls--

They have to get a warrant and there is oversight.

So now the ACLU wants the courts to give foreigners rights under the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Amazing BS here from this commie group..

In passing the FISA Amendments Act, Congress gave the executive branch the power to order Google, AT&T and Yahoo to forward to the government all e-mails, phone calls and text messages where one party to the conversation is thought to be overseas.

I do business all the time with people overseas. these communications are no longer private?

you have no rights, you have priveleges and they are being taken away.

Don't worry truth, they are just "minor" rights according to Rob.

Not even in office, and we already have the Obama-apologists!

Its good to know that when I call my terrorist buddies in those matress schools in Pakistan that the ACLU is trying to protect me.

In this case, Hurrah! for the ACLU.

"Its good to know that when I call my terrorist buddies in those matress schools in Pakistan that the ACLU is trying to protect me."

Can anyone tell me what Far West Thom is attempting to communicate in this losing struggle with the English language? herm

FWTHOM, do you understand that you are now communicating with people from other countries? Like, as you type...

rightwingdon at 2008-07-11 09:58 PM | -
If you like giving the gov't the power to spy on your communications at will, then we have little to discuss.

From the article:
In passing the FISA Amendments Act, Congress gave the executive branch the power to order Google, AT&T and Yahoo to forward to the government all e-mails, phone calls and text messages where one party to the conversation is thought to be overseas. President Bush signed the bill into law Thursday morning, describing it as a bill that "protect[s] the liberties of our citizens while maintaining the vital flow of intelligence."

"vital flow of intelligence."

www.unreachable.com

where one party to the conversation is thought to be overseas.

Thought? From the same govt that couldn't even stop 9-11 because they didn't have enough TRANSLATORS. Guess what? They STILL don't! But that didn;t stop them from firing translators because they were gay.(morons)

Hey, I've got the solution...let's add MORE shit the govt will never get around to reading! They'll be too busy looking for blackmail on the political groups and people they don't like anyway...even if they did have the manpower to read all that junk.

Hey FBI, CIA, NSA ect ect...read this: Fuck you. See if you can take some time out of your busy schedule of spying on quakers, selling drugs back to ghettos, and assassinating people overseas, and go after some actual criminals, you assholes.

Why is it OK with liberals and the ACLU that there are cameras on every corner, in the parks, buildings, etc. We are recorded everywhere. People watching our every move. It is OK to watch for potential crooks potential law breakers and potential traffic violators. It is just fine to do this kind of spying on the people. It is even OK for Google to show the world what goes on with their street view as well as infringe on private property but it is NOT OK to watch potential terrorists?

Quakers are potential terrorists?

Sorry, I don't trust my govt at this point enough to violate the 4th amendment.

If half crushing the 4th with FISA wasn't enough, then someone is doing something wrong. FFS you can get a warrant 72 hours after the fact with FISA judges, and they only say no very VERY rarely. They're Rhenquist appinted judges BTW. So picutre this: Rhenquist judges only saying no to the bush admin a handful of times out of hundreds of cases.

That's not good enough? Bullshit. This is an executive powerr grab, plain and simple.

Quakers are potential terrorists?

According to DR lefties they are.

How often do we see bullshit moral equivalence between Muslim terrorists and Christian terrorists?

I am not placing you in that category, but you've been around this blog long enough to know what I am talking about.

KBM

You haven't been to England, have you?

"Why is it OK with libs and ACLU that there are cameras on every corner, etc.(?)

One brief answer from a liberal and ACLU chapter chair:

It's not. herm

How often do we see bullshit moral equivalence between Muslim terrorists and Christian terrorists?

If they're both "terrorists"(your words) is isn't an equivalence, is it?

Spying on Quakers is a fucking waste of time, and our money.

If they're both "terrorists"(your words) is isn't an equivalence, is it?

It is when the implication is that in the present the various religions of Christianity breed the exact same level of terrorism that Islam breeds.

Spying on Quakers is a fucking waste of time, and our money.

I pretty much agree but you are missing my initial point - The anti-religion freaks probably disagree with you.

That's good to hear. Seriously.

I wouldn't worry too much about the red light cameras, jeff. They became so effective at stopping traffic violations, that cities are now taking them down. Why? Cops can't make their ticket quotas and the cities are losing money.

Nice to know what our safety is worth, eh? And when you realize that the cameras didn't go away for privacy issues, but rather non seatbelt wearing driver income, It points out where the heads of our leaders(and our voters) really lie. Up their asses.

Alex,

Those cameras greatly increased the number of rear-enders as people became aware of their existence and started slamming on the brakes at the site of a yellow (out of fear of a ticket) in lieu of proceeding with caution.

Regardless, you make a good, overall point.

Not pro-camera here...but the reason they're going away makes me laugh.

I'd rather our country didn't become constantly recorded ala the UK.

Not pro-camera here...but the reason they're going away makes me laugh.

It's all about the money.

How can ACLU survive without lawsuits? It needs lawsuits to keep generating money.

No kidding, moron.

The ACLU is only interested in MONEY!

They dont give a fuck about your rights!!

Who cares about the new FISA law? Criminals. Thats who.

Wake up America. Your rights are being stolen every day.

Read up...FISA will not affect any of you folks.

Unless you have a warrant out for your arrest!

If you are a law abiding citizen...then you have nothing to worry about.

I'm just saying...

I'm just sayin....

The FISA law DOES involve law abiding citizens.

Reporters who have overseas contacts are also affected.

I don't support FISA, but I sure as HELL won't vote for McCain.

ACLU does like money. So do you. But civil rights suits don't produce any. herm

And when they come for this poster, there'll be no one left to defend him (?)). herm

Famous last words.

I am sure that thousands of innocent people currently in jail for being wrongfully convicted thought the same thing.

I thought conservatives were all for people making money. Silly me.

You bet. And besides, are rights are NOT negotiable and certainly not to be sacrificed in the altar of political strategy.

"Read up on 'Civil Liberties' and get back to us.

With little if any resistance from Democrats. In fact I would dare say with help from Democrats.

"Who cares about the new FISA law? Criminals. Thats who."

Citizens who want their privacy rights intact, that's who. It is interesting that when people "lawyer up" the pigs consider it a bad thing since they can't railroad innnocent people and close a case and go eat doughnuts. To then, a person excercising their right to due process is a "criminal" or looks "guilty".

Bullshit.

WHY WOULDN'T THEY --THIS ACT IS PURE DISCIMINATION AGAINST THOSE WHO SEEK TO HARM US
JASMAN

The ones harming us more are the ones raping the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The only point worth discussing from your point of view is for me to agree with you.
Will not.
I have nothing to hide.
I am not giving up any rights by this law.
You on the other hand will not address the problem as you see it,with any reasonable alternatives.
You would be to happy to let unrestricted phone calls come into the United States from terrorist organisations.
You are not part of the problem, you are the problem.

"I have nothing to hide. I am not giving up any rights by this law."

Nothing to hide but his head. In the sand. The dons of the world make me wonder why I defend That Scrap Of Paper. The dons would be just as happy under (using a new name) Mussolini. herm

unless a future Nixon is being spied on...& being nurtured:>)

The people running this police state formerly known as American have managed to convince people that the phrase "something to hide" should have a negative connotation. The whole concept of privacy rests on the idea of having stuff to hide. If you are doing nothing wrong then no one should be snooping around into your affairs. The only way this should happen is if they can convince a judge to issue a warant. Otherwise, it's perfectly OK in a free society for people "to have somehing to hide."

"Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men. " -- Ayn Rand

Mignon McLaughlin (June 6, 1913 - December 20, 1983) was an American journalist and author. She is author of the quote: "A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person." She wrote the first and second Neurotic's Notebooks, and is also the author of this quote:

"Anything you lose automatically doubles in value."

She has also been credited with:

"Every society honors its live conformists and its dead troublemakers."

Banni, those quotations are just outstanding!

Thanks for sharing.

Again, no reasonable alterative to the problem as he sees it.

You make yourself irrelevant.
