Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Women's magazine editor Cynthia Good said this was a skirmish she had to fight. Across Atlanta they stood, orange signs with black letters that read "Men At Work" or "Men Working Ahead." Good demanded Atlanta officials remove the signs and last week, Atlanta Public Works Commissioner Joe Basista agreed.

YEAH!

Oh Boy!

Another Egregious Threat to Rightisright's manhood!

Best you declare a War on it soon or risk not be recognized as a Man!

Maybe once Thompsons Won the Presidential Race you can fashion some more worthless legislation to put a stop to things like this just like in your glory days of old (i.e. pre November 2006)!

This story is typical of the feminazi mentality. These gals do themselves more harm than good.
Who cares if one of the crew members on the highway wearing an orange day-glo jacket and pouring asphalt isn't actually a guy but a female. Do these wacky broads think if the signs continue to say "Men At Work" a motorist will only run over the women in the work crew? What's next "Persons at Work"? Give me a break. With all the other issues they could work on for gender equality (read: glass ceiling) for them to pick this one is idiotic.

No More Men At Work

You scared me there for a minute, I thought this was a story about Men At Work breaking up, lol!

youtube.com

When Obama was asked about this issue he said that the signs should from now on read: Hombres Trabajando.

Developing .....

New signs ordered will say "men and women out of work."

As long as they replace signs as needed without additional cost to taxpayers...who cares...really.

Wow. Redneckville's pretty creepy, eh?

Damn... I thought I was going to get to retire early.

Men aren't going to be allowed to work anymore?

Another whore for Hussein Obama

Perhaps we should ask NASA to go into its archives and have Neil Armstrong re-record his "One small step for man..." statement.

Did this lonely cat-lover stop to think that the word 'men' is cheaper to print than the word 'humans'? What about the guy who has to work alone while his buddies are having lunch? Maybe he should rally for a sign that says 'Just one man working at this time'.

The world has gone to shit quickly because of how people always have to see themselves as victims.

This story is typical of the feminazi mentality. These gals do themselves more harm than good.

PC run amok.

I worked at Texas Instruments very briefly in their IC manufacturing plant. It was a clean room where everyone had to wear bunny suits. (that's why I quit after 2 weeks. I couldn't stand the bunny suit) If you took it off, you had to go through the entire scrub down procedure to re-don it. This took about 20 minutes.

They allowed men to use a urinal in the clean to relieve themselves without having to go through the entire scrub down procedure as long as they only unzipped the fly. The women, however, had to go through it again since they had to take off the suit to pee. One -- maybe more -- complained that this wasn't fair. As if it was the guys' faults they had it easier when pissing. [enter redneckshill with a stupid irrelevant tighty right comment] So they shut down the urinals and forced the men to go outside the clean room to pee and having to re-don their outfits. Lost production time, etc. just because some feminazi thought it was unfair than men had penises.

What does this have to do with anything? Looks like the entire bracket is nothing more than your own irrelevant banter.

Do people have to turn every single thread on this site into a partisan issue? Give it a rest.

What does this have to do with anything?

It was a jab at redneckville for turning every thread into a hate someone republican bash as he did in the very first post of this thread.

YOur "give it a rest" request should have been addressed to him, not me. He's the one who does it on every -- literally every -- thread he posts to, not I.

And if you happen to be a woman worker at the same work site, what are you supposed to think those signs say about you? Or at least the way others perceive you and treat you?
I don't think this is a real big deal in the grand scheme of things, but Ms. Good makes a valid point.

And if you happen to be a woman worker at the same work site, what are you
supposed to think those signs say about you?

I don't care if the sign says "Men at Work" as long as it's big and bright enough to be seen by those driving a car before they plowed into me. Why even announce women are working in the crew? That only puts an added distraction in a dangerous work situation as you'd always get some idiot guy in a car who rather try to look at the women than pay attention to his driving.

Or at least the way others perceive you and treat you?

If you're working with guys on the job, the majority of time they are going to perceive and treat you the way you allow it to be. Just as long as they keep the ribald remarks to a minimum and my paycheck to a maximum things should be fine.

Unreal. Don't blame you for leaving.

If you're working with guys on the job, the majority of time they are going to perceive and treat you the way you allow it to be.

Truer words were never spoken. Working in a predominantly male environment, I can give numerous examples. There are some women on the rig who get down and dirty and cuss and tell dirty stories and the men reciprocate. There are some other women who do not wish to be a part of this and the men are respectful to their wishes.

HOwever, the smart guys will not engage in 'sailor talk' with the women even if the women do. One of these 'potty mouthed' women had it in for another guy and filed a sexual harrasment lawsuit against him for a dirty joke he told. It hasn't been litigated yet, but I'm sure there will be several guys attest to this woman's character and he will get off and keep his job.

I'm a red-blooded American man, a guy who grew up in the Deep South and I say "Right On Ms. Good!" The sign is flat wrong and should be replaced. "People Working" is fine with me because it's true. I'm sure most of the people here who say to get over it or that it's not a big deal are men. Guys: put yourself in their shoes for a minute. What if you had to work at a place that only had signs saying "Women Working?" Would you enjoy it when your buddies showed up to meet you for a coupla beers after work and give you s**t?

As a lawyer, let me assure you that a man telling a sexual joke to a female co-worker at the work site IS sexual harassment. Even if the woman regularly partakes in the potty mouth conversations.
The real issue is whether a sanction of any type is appropriate. Often times, like when the woman is known to frequently engage in such humor, no sanction whatsoever is the appropriate resolution.
But do not let that blind any of you to the fact that workplace dirty jokes aimed at women is sexual harassment in any Fair Labor Court in this country.

Signs saying "HOT ROCKING BABES AT WORK" would be the BEST way to get people to go 45 mph or under.

If wives complained, the guys can say, "Hey, it's s double fine to speed".

What if you had to work at a place that only had signs saying "Women Working?" Would you enjoy it when your buddies showed up to meet you for a coupla beers after work and give you s**t?

Do you seriously think these two scenarios are analogous?

If you are serious, I'll answer. I wouldn't give a shit. It's a sign, not an emasculation machine aimed at your balls for christ's sake.

LOL AU -- but it just might work in keeping the speed down!

As a lawyer, let me assure you that a man telling a sexual joke to a female co-worker at the work site IS sexual harassment. Even if the woman regularly partakes in the potty mouth conversations.

I don't know if it's a law or corporate policy, but at my place of work the woman has to give the man a warning that she does not like hearing those kinds of jokes. Or is she is uncomfortable doing so, she tells her supervisor who relays the message. A guy can't get fired for a one time joke. 2 strikes you're out, though. And the warning obviously does not cover the more blatant sexual harrassment that may happen -- only jokes or language.

If wives complained, the guys can say, "Hey, it's s double fine to speed".

You know, a colleague of mine once said, half-jokingly, half-seriously, that the reason why the United States doesn't switch to the Metric System is that housewives would not tolerate it since they would have to convert all their recipes. I get the feeling he is right. These desperate housewives are keeping us from Declaring our independence from the British system of measurement.

GOAT

This one seems as though she'd pose a dilema on the rig. On one hand.. On the other..

Pretty Girl, Hairy Armpits

Pretty Girl, Hairy Armpits

Yeah! Must be one of them European women!

Imagine what her legs look like

I just got sick, AU. I can't deal with hairy pits on a woman.

The only problem I have with the "Men At Work" signs is that once I get there, nobody seems to be working. "Men Standing Around", or "Thirty Guys Watching Two Other Guys Drive A Paver" is more appropriate, but I imagine that the reflective lettering would get prohibitively expensive.

RiR

That's SO true. I rarely see anyone working.

I once stopped (because of traffic) next to 8 'hole watchers' - and one guy working his ass off. I asked them how they got their jobs.

One answered, "You have to be on the job a long time".

"Thirty Guys Watching Two Other Guys Drive A Paver"

There is a word that describes those Thirty Guys, SUPERVISOR!

But isn't where you live a Right to Work state? I would only think this kind of thing would happen in heavily unionized states.

One answered, "You have to be on the job a long time".

I think the word they would use is SENIORITY.

As long as they replace signs as needed without additional cost to taxpayers...who cares...really.

Are you kidding? They will probably be made in China at taxpayer expense.

I live and work in the Atlanta area and I think the signs should say "People Loitering in a Construction Zone". I've lived in other parts of the country where a project that takes 5 years in Georgia would have been completed in 6 months, at night and without completely bolloxing up traffic.

I'm astonished at the the amount of time some people have to dedicate to trivial causes.

As long as they replace signs as needed without additional cost to taxpayers...who cares...really.

The article states $22.00 each to fix each sign & $144.00 each to replace.

What about the word 'history'? A misogynistic word if there ever was one. It's almost as bad as 'mankind'

"""And if you happen to be a woman worker at the same work site, what are you
supposed to think those signs say about you?"""

The women I've seen on construction sites or on road crews qualify as men. Case closed: the sign is relevant in its present form.

FF. I want one of those signs. In Montreal, the road work is done in great parts by public blue-collar employees: unionized, overpaid, underworked. Reporters have often taken pictures of them sleeping for hours in their trucks, or shopping, or running errands, etc.

And when they strike to get even more obscene conditions, they don't think twice in trashing city equipment, trucks, physically threatening managers, tossing trucks in the river...It's a fucking mafia.

I am a man and I wouldn't work in Atlanta either...way too hot and humid for me!

Man means mankind, in context. Look it up.

DRPEPPER...as long as they do it on a need for replacement basis...I see no problem.
Men, women, people...who cares.

For a few years there I thought they were changing the state motto of Tennessee to, "Road Construction Ahead".

Glad they finally wrapped up all the construction around Nashville. The freeway system is great now. Rarely have I ever seen such clean roads either. You rarely see trash of any kind on the side of the road.

GOATMAN,

My deepest apologies for missing the statement you were making. I didn't realize it was directed at a particular member and for some reason, it really rubbed me the wrong way. Hopefully, we can move on without destroying each other's economies and morale!
