Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A senior government official with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has expressed great interest in a so-called "safety bracelet" that would serve as a stun device, according to the Washington Times. The device would have GPS tracking capabilities, be worn by all air passengers, and deliver an immobilizing shock similar to that of a police Taser.

thank you, islam!

Better idea to have the members of Congress fitted for such a device. Whenever they are about to pass legislation that is inimical to freedom and liberty, a powerful electric shock is administered--not enough to kill, but enough to ensure loss of bowel and bladder control.

I would expect viewership of C-Span to increase dramatically.

"thank you, islam!"

When you consider the stupidity of that comment it makes you actually feel high.
Nanc, it is DHS not Islamic Jihadists that want to put the bracelets on you.

"When you consider the stupidity of that comment it makes you actually feel high."

Yeah, well, apparently nanc shares her husband's affinity fer alcohol. She's probably on her second six-pack.

danni - when did all this nonsense begin? oh, gee, let me seeeeeee...was it about the time of 9/11? when muslims used commercial aircraft as bombs? do you think (and with what?) dhs just pulls these ideas out of their hats?

WTF happened in the u.s. to warrant such thought?

think outside the box, danni.

you wish, dave.

NANC if they decided to execute passengers just in case they got an idea to hijack...with no indication that they were....would that be Muslim's fault too????

Sorry, the logic just doesn't work that because we were attacked in 2001 the Muslims (99.999999% never attacked us BTW) are responsible for insane ideas like this from DHS. It is DHS's idea, they take the credit/blame for them.

Years ago this kind of story would only appear in the likes of The Onion, but now sadly, our govt officials have wacky ideas to fight terrorism. Tnank you Republicans and Democrats for your bipartisan gang-rape of the Constitution and Bill of Rights!

DANNI admitted to being European so it is understandable how weird his ideas are.

I hope you all watched that video. Talk about misleading and fear-mongering.

The opening lines talk of how the terrrrrrists 'easily passed though numerous high-tech devices'.....like what? A metal detector? ....and with a box-cutter?....that was permitted on planes at the time.

When 9/11 happened, box cutter were permissible on airplanes. No airport screener could ever be accused of not doing enough. The FAA might be for allowing non-serrated blades on planes, but the airports and airlines did everything the way the FAA demands it be done.

Anyway, buy stock in this company, I'm sure they're paying off our politicians as we speak to implement this.

DANNI is not a he, and if you're white, in America, chances are you're most likely of European descent as well.

Toes the term "FUCK YOU" have any meaning to you?

FWTHOM I don't know where you got that but I was born in America though I am of Irish/Dutch ancestory though I believe they emigrated around 1850.

This story is no different than gun control. Do criminals follow gun control laws? No. Will "terrorists" follow bracelet laws? Of course not.

...Not to mention hackers having a field day stealing personal information off of the embedded RFID chips.

This whole idea is a layer cake of stupidity. That being said, the government feels it can be successful if we just put a few billion more tax dollars into it.

Always knew he was a toe fucker...... low brow, beady eyes. You know.

What happens when the bracelets malfunction?

Um, Mr Johnson, we're sorry to inform you that we had a software glitch, and um.. um.. well, little suzie won't be home for christmas...um, this year, or any other year for that matter.

You should be proud she died a hero in the war on turrur.

At least there is some thinking outside the box going on at DHS.

This is a weird idea for bracelets for passengers. I am not comfortable with tracking devices--most folks are not as well.

It would just increase the delay and wait time to get on/off the damn plane.

The technology is great--but the application is not right.

Why can't they adapt this to cargo containers at the ports or something?

Ah the pilot program for the one later in which all people are forced to have one by law everywhere!

"Why can't they adapt this to cargo containers at the ports or something?

Posted by MURPHY at 2008-07-08 02:51 PM"

Bad cargo! Bad! I'm warning you! Don't make me stun you cargo!

They can put a shock collar on you but still cant stop your luggage from ending up in the wrong city. WTF

Shock cuffs?

Yes, but do her shock cuffs match her shock collars?

Hold on a sec, the DHS totally ripped this idea off from Star Trek.

The Gamesters of Triskellion, in fact.

Thrallmaster Galt kept his fightin' thralls in line with their patented collars of obedience.

Spud wagers many kwatloons on this idear not going over particularily well, except among the BDSM set and some freedom hating/authority worshipping GOPhers.

Be Well.

From the article:

"Why are tax dollars being spent on something like this? Is this a police state or is it America?"

Difficult to say these last few years. By the way, this is a Canadian company so the transaction would be in looneys. Seems appropriate.

This would be about the final nail in the coffin of air travel. What with security measures at the airport, delays on the tarmac, having to pay extra to breathe, and having to sit on your rage at being charged money for treatment that should be against the Geneva Conventions, air travel is already misery of the first order.

I personally will no longer fly because of the inhumane treatment airline passengers are expected to tolerate. It's airborne S&M, is what it is.

If you aren't planning to hijack the flight then why are you afraid of wearing the bracelet???
Huh???
Anyone who objects to the bracelets should be on the No Fly List.
These bracelets come with an attractive American Flag theme so refusing to wear one proves you are unpatriotic.

Another reason to fly solo.

"I personally will no longer fly because of the inhumane treatment airline passengers are expected to tolerate."

I can fly for free anywhere within the 48 states. I haven't done that in about six years, I drive. Not having to rent a car at the other end covers most of the cost and avaoids the nightmare airport hassle. The only time I get on a plane is to visit friends in Europe since there's really no other quick way to get there. What with the value of the dollar abroad I don't do much of that either.

Whenever they are about to pass legislation that is inimical to freedom and liberty

RightisRight

lol

They would have been electrocuted during the vote for the Patriot Act.

You guys are cute, sometimes.

As someone that flies quite a bit for work and someone that works with bleeding edge technology let me just say what an incredibly bad idea this is. Forget for a moment the privacy, tracking and personal information security concerns.

It would happen like this: Some overzealous flight attendant gets into a disagreement with some passenger over something that doesn't matter. When the FA goes to the panel or device that activates the shock collar on that passenger the FA spills the bottle of water he/she is holding onto the device. The redundant panel was serviced in Hampton, GA by Billie Bob last Friday while the jet was down for PM and service. Billie Bob forgot to perform steps 5 and 18 in the manual since he had that big lunch down at the Waffle House. Without completion of those particular steps the redundant panel is electronically left in pass through mode. Since the default for a device of this nature would require it to activate if the redundant system failed and the primary device was now waterlogged courtesy of an incompetent FA ALL 188 passengers onboard would be shocked senseless for the duration of the flight or until a manual override could be found.

The only thing missing for these things is a red-white-and-blue color scheme and a patriotic name like "liberty bracelet", "patriot band", or "freedom collar".

From their website:

We wish to clear up any misconceptions regarding the EMD Safety Bracelet for Airline Security.

The bracelets remain inactive until a hijacking situation has been identified. At such time a designated crew member will activate the bracelets making them capable of delivering the punitive measure - but only to those that need to be restrained. We believe that all passengers will welcome deliverance from a hijacking, as will the families, carriers, insurance providers etc. The F-16 on the wingtip is not to reassure the passengers during a hijacking but rather to shoot them down.

Besides activation using the grid screen, the steward / stewardess will have a laser activator that can activate any bracelet as needed by simply pointing the laser at the bracelet - that laser dot only needs to be within 10 inches of the bracelet to activate it.

(Be afraid. Be very fucking afraid.)

Thank you Republican Pussies!

"If you aren't planning to hijack the flight then why are you afraid of wearing the bracelet???
Huh???
Anyone who objects to the bracelets should be on the No Fly List.
These bracelets come with an attractive American Flag theme so refusing to wear one proves you are unpatriotic."

Now you are getting it. The bar code on your arm is there for your protection see?

Do you think the airlines are getting apranoid about disgruntled passengers?

Another fine reason I have made few plans to travel since the last nightmare of a trip. Aggressively pushy and impolite attendants, cramped, dirty seating, lousy service, long delays, etc., etc.

The only thing missing for these things is a red-white-and-blue color scheme and a patriotic name like "liberty bracelet", "patriot band", or "freedom collar".

Except for that "Made In Canada" tag.

MP,

I still stand squarely behind what I said. There has to be an integrated control system installed somewhere on the aircraft and I certainly hope that there's at least one redundant control system. I'll grant that I'm not a avionics or aircraft expert but I DO know a great deal about systems.

"A designated crew member"? Yeah, it's not hard for a team of motivated hijackers to figure out whom that would be and he or she would be the first casualty.

"Aggressively pushy and impolite attendants, cramped, dirty seating, lousy service, long delays, etc., etc."

You think the seating was dirty before...wait til they shock the hell out of someone.

I agree with you Reagan, but look at it from a Neo-Conservative's perspective:

It sure is a lot cheaper than installing Water Boards in every seat.

FF for Danni

This will do wonders for international tourism to the United States.

I will never wear one of these. The first time they try it, I'm out of the airport. This is unconscionable.

As i said. This is another pilot program to guage the eventual mandatory installation of chips in everyone. I love big brother!

"Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of it. The history of liberty is a history of resistance. The history of liberty is a history of limitations of governmental power, not the increase of it."
-Nadia Boulanger

Why is there a feeling of "Evil Star Trek" to this whole idea?

This idea of bracelets would be "useful" in an incredibly tiny number of occasions. For this microscopic number we would subject all of our travelers to such things that our most dangerous prisoner can not be subjected to.

This is just a plain out and out bad if not paranoid idea.

WTF? Next thing they will be trying to put them on everyone! BIG BROTHER 1984 comes to mind.

ONE OTHER QUESTION:

Let's say you have a plane with a couple hundred people on it and one passenger does start acting unruly (not like a terrorist, but enough to have to subdue them) and they're not near their assigned seat, HOW DOES THE STEWARDESS KNOW WHO TO JUICE? Sure, she has the person in front of him/her, but which button does she push top make sure that only the unruly passenger is the one that gets zapped?

"This is just a plain out and out bad if not paranoid idea."

We must all make sacrifices to ensure the security of the Fatherland....er...I mean the Homeland.

I don't understand, I thought no one could get to the flight deck.

I guess by this continued research that is not the case.

SPUD

Just how many quatloos will you bet that this idea tanks as it should?

thank islam - we wouldn't be in this pickle today had it not been for the religion of peace. we'd all still be fat, dumb and happy.

You voted for that pickle and said, "again". Don't blame those who didn't for you actually thinking about allowing someone to put a shock collar on you, if you don't mind.

Here's a clue: It's not a "pickle". There is no debate about whether or not I wear a shock collar. You seem to be open to the idea, and that's kinda the problem I have with the Bush-Safety zombies.

Posted by nanc

If you're so fucking scared that the rest of us have to wear these cuffs, just so you can fly, then YOU better stay off planes. The rest of us will take our chances.

It is all about control! They will never quit until we are in chains!

I'm sure that Mr. I Hate America will have a way to remove that bracelet in the shitter just before he is about to take over the plane. Fucking stupid idea, plain and simple.
If this does go thru, can we expect it on trains and buses too? How about our high school children? Could it be used to stop further gun violence? If this is such a good idea, why don't we at least test it on our prison populations first? But I bet that it would be considered an infringement on their rights, unlike airline passengers that don't have any.

i don't fly anywhere i can drive. the desire is gone. my husband, however, has to on occasion - they've actually allowed him to carry his pocket knife onto the plane...

as for me, i have no fear but for those who are blinded by their own stupidity and lack of desire to know how and why we're in the mess we're in today.

educate thyself.

christianity did not get u.s. into this.

judaism did not get u.s. into this.

mormonism did not get u.s. into this.

athiesm did not get u.s. into this.

and the list goes on. surely you can follow the process of elimination...

they've actually allowed him to carry his pocket knife onto the plane...

Well then big bad hubby can protect himself with his little pocket knife. Does he practice knife fights in the mirror and stuff? Oooooo!

as for me, i have no fear

Terrorism has worked better on you and those like you, then anyone else in this country. Just look at yourself on this thread. You're pretty much the only one here advocating that everyone where a shock bracelet, so you and hubby can feel safe from the bad old Muslims. (BTWsame Muslims your savior GWs been kissing the brown-eye on for half his life)

Gawd damn you're ignorant!! Do you and hubby have a f//king spine between you? The terrorists are coming! We'd better all wear shock bracelets or they'll get us!

BOO!!

Anybody who would voluntarily put one of these things on deserves to be shocked.

Nanc is not ignorant at all. She's telling it like it is. She has common sense. She understands that Muslims = terrorists, unlike some of us 'worldly' folk who've heard of a country called Indonesia.

scrumplet - i've never said muslim equals terrorist, but i do concur with others that nearly all acts of terrorism in the last ten years have been committed by muslims - nearly 10,000 acts.

until the "moderate" muslims come out en force and put a stop to those who hijack their religion, i'll continue pointing out the inconsistencies. same as i would if christians were committing travesties in the name of God Almighty!

whatsleft - have you been fitted for yours? i'd be glad to be at the controls.

Go figure. Why not have everyone wear then all the time including their sleep because if you've done nothing wrong, it shouldn't matter? I mean same thing regarding communication right

Sorry nanc, but Criminal George Bushs' assault on iraq was an act of terror.
Claimed his christian god as an advisor to the affair.

Terrorist.

I see an income opportunity here. Couple the braceletts with some congressman's suggestion that airline passengers be given the right to carry conceled weapons. Sell tickets to spectators. The airlines could generate some much needed revenue.

NANC, you don't deserve freedom or liberty. Just ask Ben Franklin.

Also, if there's enough idiots out there like you to allow this kind of travesty to pass, imagine what it will cost us ALL in deflated dollars.

You know the airlines won't have to pay a fucking penny.

I'm calling bullshit. This story has to be a fake.

Sully
I think the correct term "shananagens".

whatsleft - have you been fitted for yours? i'd be glad to be at the controls.

Statements like that, from people like you, are precisely why this is a bad idea. The so-called 'terrorists' already had people like you conquered before 9/11 ever happened. Do as DHS says, and go buy some more duct tape and plastic, and then wrap it around yourself...securely.

had it not been for the religion of peace. we'd all still be fat, dumb and happy.

Aside from most being disgruntled, two outta three ain't bad.

christianity did not get u.s. into this.

Sorry nanc but yes it did!!

You are delusional and uneducated if you think for one minute this problem was not caused by christianity. bush even bragged about it being a new convort and all. Hate to kill your delusional ideas but blamin another faith for the problems doesn't work.
