The percentage of voters who give Congress good or excellent ratings has fallen to single digits for the first time in Rasmussen Reports tracking history. Just 9% say Congress is doing a good or excellent job.

what do the nine percent think they've done?

This does not bode well for Dems in the fall.

I guess that explains why the DNCC has only 4 million on hand.

RCP Average 06/12 - 06/25 (D)50.5 (R) 39.0 = Democrat +11.5

Throw the bums out and let's start over.

Get rid of all the corporate-owned Republicans (100%) and the Democrats (80%) owned by the special and radical ethno-centric interest groups and clean house.

Still not fillibuster proof.

Only new leadership will help...Pelosi is a complete and utter failure. Replace Harry Reid with someone tough like Jim Webb.

Well, Pelosi and Reid promised that America's perception of Congress would change dramatically after 2006. Not quite what we had thought, maybe, but give them credit for delivering on at least one of their campaign promises.

Only new leadership will help...

I'll believe that when I see it.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss...

They said they would defund the war and they passed every funding bill.

They said they would defund the war and they passed every funding bill.

the last bill they passed gave what, 70% more than even the president asked for?

Us Dems are being ignored by our elected representatives. If they wanted to prove the accusation made by many that they are all worthless, bought and paid for, shills for corporate America....then they are doing a good job of it.

I'm not sure if this number really means a whole lot. These kind of things have to be looked at precinct-by-precinct since we don't vote for congress on a national level.

I think there are a lot of people who disapprove of congress as a whole but strongly approve of his or her own representative.

The lowest rating of any politician in the history of the universe.

Pelosi and Reid are failures. Now, add to this dynamic duo an inexperienced, overly ambitious neophyte from Chicago's political machine with no military background and presidential aspirations, and you've got the recipe for potential disaster. As the Smart Gremlin said, "Well, it's rather brutal here. Right now we're advising all our clients to put everything they've got into canned goods and shotguns."

Where did they get that many people to support them?

nancy haaad a chance, but she is a disaster

Get rid of Pelosi and Reid - the great appeasers.

The Dem Congress is doing a hell-of-a-job. Bush's approval rating is over three times as high.

Ahh "CHANGE" heh, the only problem with that is barack is working the system just like politics of old, and he can not articulate a single idea on how he'd change his own party.

Just when one gets angry at a political party, keep in mind the other party is just as dirty. Can you say the Fanjul brothers and 1.7 BILLION of public money for their greasy hands? You can bet both parties will receive a good amount of slush money from US Sugar over the next five years!!!

Yawn. Meaningless, FWThom. I'll bet no Congressperson is less popular with his or her voters than Bush, and I'll guarantee no Dem congressperson is. But if that kind of meaningless comparison makes you feel better about being one of the last dumbass supporters of Shrub, you go girl!

Chasing Pelosi out of Washington would double this rating overnight. She is an unmitigated disaster, opposing the impeachment of Bush that would do so much to begin restoring confidence in this country's institutions.

I'll bet no Congressperson is less popular with his or her voters than Bush

That's true. While I have some problems with my own congressman, it's usually not our own politician we're unhappy with, it's everyone else's. But hey, my wingnut republican senator isn't running again. Things may be getting better!

Only new leadership will help...Pelosi is a complete and utter failure. Replace Harry Reid with someone tough like Jim Webb.

That is something we agree on.

I'd like to know why Reid can get away with the excuse that the Republicans can fillibuster any bill the Dems propose without him forcing them to do exactly that. If they want to threaten fillibuster then they should be forced to fillibuster and face the 6:00 news every day with more coverage of another Republican fillibuster, this time about....fill in the blank. Instead, the tell Reid they will fillibuster and he just doesn't even bring it up. What's up with that???

WESTERNER it's a start.

While I have some problems with my own congressman, it's usually not our own politician we're unhappy with, it's everyone else's.

Most people would say this, but then, how does the bill pass?

Lazy people just don't get it, throw them all out, not one of them is worthy.

Danni-

Pelosi has a physiological excuse for having no balls, Reid doesn't have that luxury.

........'My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it.' -- Barack Obama

moron.......I mean oxymoron

If you think this is a disaster, just wait and see what happens if Obama becomes president. Just as the dems made promises in 2006 and failed to follow through, Obama will do the same.

Ha, that may be a best case scenerio. They do nothing. If they do the things Obama wants to do. Trust me, things can and will get worse.

wow georges numbers are looking quite daunting, you go george.

I posted this on another thread, but it is pertinent here.

This so-called Congressional approval rating is a completely meaningless figure/factoid. Doubt that? Then answer these 2 questions:

1. Are the House and Senate likely to gain Democrats in the upcoming election?

2. Will most (over 95%) incumbents be re-elected?

Answering "yes" to those 2 questions explains why this single-digit Congressional approval rating, in this election, is meaningless.

Now, if this election was shaping up to be another 1994 or 2006 then you might have something with this approval rating. As it is, in this election, it is meaningless.

So cackle away all you want. Bottom line: the next Congress will have more Democrats than the current one. And 95%+ of the incumbents will be re-elected.

FACT!

How can Democrats get anything done when the Republicans put all kinds of roadblocks in the way?? Tell Me THAT one.

Larry

All politicians are bought by the same mulinational corporations. Sadly people are just b#tching about high gas prices and don't get it...

Lazy people just don't get it, throw them all out, not one of them is worthy.

LARRYHOHR: Isn't this similar to the previous years when the dems in congress blocked much legislation and presidential nominees?

Yep MSgt and You right wingers pitched a royal bitch fit over it too. THAT is what stinks about the whole thing.

Larry

The Dem Congress is doing a hell-of-a-job. Bush's approval rating is over three times as high.

And yet they're 12 points up on the GOppers, lead in every category and even the GOppers are preparing for a thumping in November.

Has anybody seen a poll which has people commenting on who in Congress they blame?

Larry Mohr is too stupid to understand simple things such as this topic.

The bottom line is that Democrats control spending, they control the AGENDA, they control everything.

And you know what? The democrats have time and time again collapsed to the will of George Bush. Over and over again.

And you can't blame just Reid and Pelosi, their entire party, every member is in lock step with them.

The entire elected Democrat body is a total failure.

If they were serious about anything, shit would start getting passed, and funding would be blocked and the war would have been over a year ago.

Don't you fucking get that, you dumbfuck Larry Lenny Mohr?

They don't need overwhelming majority, you fuck head. All they need is the slight majority. If I was a democrat in Congress, I push to end the war, and I threaten the republicans to go along with it, or us democrats block every fucking thing from now on. Then nothing happens whatsoever, and I would be doing the will of my constituency.

But the democrats don't give a flying fuck about their voters, and that is apparent. That is why they are 3x lower approval than Bush.

You dumb fuck. They got no backbone.

Well said, Kuma. And remember, Bob Barr is the only one running who isn't a socialist.

Hey Congress!

Drill, Drill, Drill!

Solar, Solar, Solar!

Wind, Wind, Wind!

Nuclear, Nuclear, Nuclear!

Energy independence? Ever hear of it?

How about a 4 year term limit and you are gone. Let the people decide!

Every hear of the Constitution?

The Democrat Congress (namely Polisi and Reid) promised us they would work on ending the war in Iraq. Instead Pelosi and Reid couldn't rubber stamp fast enough Bush's continual requests for more "no accountability" billions of dollars to funnel into his war.

The Dems also promised us lower oil prices. When the Dems took over Congress in 2006 gasoline was a slightly more than $2 a gallon. I'm now paying about $4.69 a gallon.

Throw all these bums out of Congress and start with a clean slate.

Hey, kuma, you pathetic piece of shit, tell us: If the "entire elected Democrat body is a total failure." why are there going to be more Democrats in Congress after November?

Amd where's that much vaunted video which is supposed to ruin Obama's career?

"How about a 4 year term limit and you are gone. Let the people decide!"

Term limits or "let the people decide."

Isn't that what's known around here as a self-retorting retort?

wringing hands, yawn , good luck getting the price of gas below 4.00 after Labor Day, obama says we deserve it, the middle class should shoulder the burden, high fuel, food and energy prices. It's what the libs have wanted for 55 years. Bad Americans, bad ,bad, bad, bad. How dare you support the world for decades and now expect the rest of the world to respect you. It's Bushes fault, bad, bad, bad !

"obama says we deserve it, the middle class should shoulder the burden, high fuel, food and energy prices"

Gee, I missed that. Do you have a link?

I guess not.

Pelosi's third in line for President in case of total melt down.

Gas will be 5.29 in about nine months.

We have the right to bitch, because we seem to be unable to do anything about any of it.

No one in Congress has the sense God/Allah gave a monkey, the lips move and sound comes out pretty much like three hours after eating a bowl of beans.

Blame whoever you want, but DO look in a mirror to see who is really at fault. This crap has been in the making for well over 40 years, and we watched it happen, every step of the way, and didn't once bat an eye!

Democrats and Republicans have blocked each others agendas for years, that's the only way they can make a difference cause the party in power ignores the one out. Stupid to a fault cause it says I am the ONLY one who has it right and you're irrelevant.

Think about it, we as a nation, elect approximately 45% of our representatives who are told they are unnecessary to the process if they're in the minority party.

How can Democrats get anything done when the Republicans put all kinds of roadblocks in the way?? Tell Me THAT one.

Larry

Ok.

How about this.

At least try. Instead of backing down like a bitch when threatened with Filibuster, take them up on their challenge. Like someone said up above.

How about a 4 year term limit and you are gone. Let the people decide!

Every hear of the Constitution?

I have a better idea, but we Americans have a weak stomach when it comes to violence and bloodshed, even if it is for a just reason.

It's strange to me that there is such disatisfaction in all levels of our government, and yet there is no uprising from the masses. There's no loud protests on the streets of every major city in the Union.

We're complacent. Lincoln did a great thing for the future of big, ineffective government when he defied the constitution. Today's Republicans and Democrats are only following a precedent he founded.

when threatened with Filibuster, take them up on their challenge.

It would have been a lot easier to explain that than cloture. But face it, they are more for themselves than the American electorate. We need a Constitutional Convention but as I understand it Congress has stood in the way of that by claiming that 38 states must vote for a CC on one issue.

In truth they're a bunch of scared people.

Whichever party can articulate a plan to lower the gas prices will gain a lot of votes in November. Since the Dems are in the pockets of the environmentalists, I highly doubt any such a plan will ever be considered by the Democrats.

I highly doubt any such a plan will ever be considered by the Democrats.

Technology is advancing in thin film solar and recycling petrochemical products. But the Republicans want to drill in ANWR and sell the oil to Japan. That's a winner.

Why can't we do both? Drilling will increase the supply and lower the price. At the same time, let's offer tax incentives for the development of alternative energy sources. Are you happy paying four dollars a gallon? I'm all for weaning us off of the oil, but until a viable alternative is discovered, we must do something to bring down gasoline prices.

Did anybody else notice that, although true that 9% rated Congress' performance "good" or "excellent", 36% rated it "fair".

The key here is that the question asked respondents to rank Congress' performance,(excellent, good, fair, poor) not whether they approved or disapproved of it. There is a difference between the two.

Who is on misleading headline duty, Rob?

As foolish as the Dems have been and continue to be, I think the Repubs are right there with them.

This whole energy thing is made to order for the Repubs. They can say, hey lets do *everything* in our power to solve this. Lets drill, build nuclear, build wind, build solar, explore alternate technologies, lets do it all and see what develops. This is how we won WWII, we did everything. We mobilized the whole nation. They have the opportunity to do this and they are missing it.

The Dems cannot do this, they are in a corner with the greens and cannot attack this from every direction. Sucks to be them, but I really do not understand why the Repubs are not taking this and shouting it from the rooftops.

Oh and one more thing. For those (like Obama) who say drilling will not do anything to lower the cost of gas in the near term, Neither will solar or hydrogen or any of the other alternatives. We have to do them all.

It is sort of like saying, "Hey why go to college, you will not get a job and make a better living for 4 or 5 years".

Wait until BSNBC spins into a positive for the Libs. They think their viewers are stupid.

"How can Democrats get anything done when the Republicans put all kinds of roadblocks in the way?? Tell Me THAT one."

How about proposing better legislation with broad support (bipartisan).

"Wait until BSNBC spins into a positive for the Libs. They think their viewers are stupid."

Versus Faux, where they KNOW theirs are?

Don't know if this is true but I seem to recall a senator (Durbin?) say that the republicans in the senate broke the all time record for filibusters. That's some serious obstructionism, strategically ignored by the compliant corporate media.
Reid has never had much swinging dick in the senate with Lieberman holding the balance of power and Cheney holding the swing vote. But he still could have stopped funding for the war.
Pelosi is clearly unfit for leadership in the house. Replacing her is definitely on the table.

"During Senator Durbin's speech, which actually lasted a lot less than the two minutes he was alloted, he countered Senator Kyl's points by referring to a staggering statistic; the Republicans of the US Senate have performed 77 filibusters during the current session. This count breaks the previous record of 58 filibusters previously held by the 1999-2002 Senate terms."

I don't blame Congress. We're pretty stupid if we think we can keep voting for people from the same two corrupt parties and get different results. We know what these people are and we keep voting for them anyway.

Most people seem to think that congress sucks but their guy is doing a good job, resulting in incumbents being reelected. Personally, my guy (John Shimkus) is a clown but that's a minority opinion around here.

The people that vote Democrat are either looking to the govenment to help support them through welfare and other government program handouts, totally uninformed, in the Dem's pocket in some way such as Al Gore and the millions he makes off of the man made global warming hoax, or just plain stupid!

You can see the problem right here on this thread. Only about 10% say anything ABOUT working TOGETHER. Maybe if we worked together as AMERICANs instead of right and left we would get something done. But as it's now their is no freaking comprimise on anything. It's all I'm right and you're wrong crap. I thought we are AMERICANS not dems. and reps.

Thanks, glad to know I haven't alienated myself from you... totally, at least.

I got aural whiplash the first time I heard that statistic used. LOL.

Ahh yes, the great Jim Webb. He really stands by his desire to get out of Iraq.

When asked by Wolf Blitzer if he would ever support the efforts of Dennis Kucinich to cut funding for the war, Webb responded by stating "I you know, I lived through Vietnam. I lived through it as a Marine and I know that those sorts of approaches, while they seem attractive on one level are really not that realistic. What we want to do and I was talking with a number of senators today is to try to get some of these so-called emergency legislation packages back into the committee process so that the committees can actually play."

Harry, Harry? Is that you Harry?

Everyone is a "realist" once they are elected.

I'm Jim Webb, I'm full of shit, and I approve this message.

How can Democrats get anything done when the Republicans put all kinds of roadblocks in the way?? Tell Me THAT one.

Bullshit Larry...

They fund the war over and over again, from clandestine Ops in Iran to trillion dollar bases in Iraq. Fortunately the "anti-war" Democrats persevere and the spending bills are passed.

They don't need overwhelming majority, you fuck head. All they need is the slight majority. If I was a democrat in Congress, I push to end the war, and I threaten the republicans to go along with it, or us democrats block every fucking thing from now on. Home Run.

"All they need is the slight majority."

that would be true if many democrats were not merely democrats in name only.... they adopt the letter (D,R, or I) that gets them elected, period. It has nothing to do with philosophy, integrity, values or anything else.

Democrats are blocked as much from within as from without their party.

Incumbency over constituency, halleluiah!

Replace Harry Reid with someone tough like Jim Webb.

Well--since Jim took himself off the VP list (why is that?--hhhmmmmm maybe he knows something the rest of us don't).

Anyway Jim can't be Senate leader--he is a junior senator with insufficient years of service.

I think Chucky would be the next in line.

Harry "the body" Reid is a dope.

Okay, let me say what every Democrat in the room is thinking...

It's Bush's fault!

Where are all the democrats on here? Where the fuck are you?

Stand up and defend your party. Stand up and defend the fact your entire party:

1) has 0 backbone
2) changes positions on everything, with every poll that comes out. They have no principles whatsoever.
3) they could care less about the people, which is apparent from their total breakdown on energy independence. Everytime you pay $5 a gallon, don't think of fucking Republicans, think of Democrats.
4) Democrats are the kings of pork. They said when they took control in 06, they were going to put an end to that, turns out they are the biggest porkers in HISTORY. LOL
5) said they would end war. Took Bush's side EVERY SINGLE TIME, without fail.

The democratic party is an utter and complete failure.

I can say confidently that every person who votes for a democrat is just stupid. Why the fuck would you vote for somebody who does NOTHING that you want?

Absolutely nothing.

Kuma

I read through several of this thread's comments earlier today. Can't recall who said it, but they were dead on when they said it's one thing to complain about "it" (Congress) but we still seem to like our local rep... and something like 95% of them will be re-elected.

Gerrymandering makes it tough to lose a seat, still I think it'll be very difficult for Reps to hold what they have, another point that poster brought out. Good observations.

I can say confidently that every person who votes for a democrat is just stupid. Why the fuck would you vote for somebody who does NOTHING that you want?

Where in the hell have you been?

"...still I think it'll be very difficult for Reps to hold what they have..."

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee claimed it would be a good night if the Rs only lost three or four Senate seats.

And currently, electoral-vote.com has the Dems picking up 6 House seats.

Was it you who made those points earlier in the thread? They were spot on, regardless.

Much can change between now and election time (a tired cliche)... so who knows - could be an even greater swing than 3 or 6 seats.

We are left with a compelling reason to vote Democratic for the Presidency and run all the other fucking incumbents out of office, regardless of their partisan affiliation.
