In Atlanta, the nation's busiest airport dueled with gun rights advocates Tuesday over whether a new Georgia state law allows visitors to carry guns on the premises. City officials in charge of the airport declared it a "gun-free zone" when a law allowing people to carry guns on public transit and other places took effect Tuesday. Rep. Tim Bearden, sponsor of the law, filed suit to overturn the ban.

Pretty soon America is gonna look like Somalia, where every man is armed with an automatic rifle so he can handle disputes on the spot.

Then we'll all be safe.

But not from each other.

Laugh of the day.

so the airport should allow guns... does that extend to the planes? then what about the destination airport?

"John Monroe, an attorney for the gun rights backers who filed the lawsuit, argued the Atlanta airport qualifies as public transportation."

Southwest Airlines and the rest of them are NOT public transportation!

You can take public transportation to get there, but the airport itself does not qualify as public transportation either.

the airport doesn't qualify as transportation, period.

Don't many of Your large airports have movable walkways?? Aren't they transportation devices for the public?? If so they qualify as public transportation.

Larry

But larry, no matter where they take you...

You're still in the airport.

*smh

Enough of these Dirty Harry/Rambo wannabe needle-dick assholes! They won't be happy until everyone's running around like this:
www.scorsesefilms.com

I hear that 55% of the death by gun fire last year were self inflicted. Maybe this Congressman wil do us all a favor an join that 55%........

So the Pubic Mass transit system only takes You usually in a city and only in that city. So no matter where it takes You You're still IN the city.

Larry

And Georgia, once again, proves that it is the intellectual capitol of the world.

Guns, si. Toothpaste no. herm

Then we'll all be safe.

But not from each other.

How many states have the right to carry?? It ain't the wild west shoot-out.

" Works for me. Beats the hell out of box cutters."

Maybe not all of us, but your dry cleaner will.

48 states have right-to-carry laws.

Illinois and Wisconsin still don't.

OK, I'm a lib but still, can't you just see the next Al Quaeda attempt to take over an airplane????

Sorry fellow libs, I like the second amendment and I approve of Scalia's decision about guns.

Sniper:

I was being sarcastic and think I got misinterpreted. An airport full of armed Rambos? I don't think so. A lot--perhaps most--gun owners are careless, lack judgment and are untrained. By the way, I am a gun-owner and shooter for 50 years.

I don't see what's wrong with allowing people with clean records to carry guns. There's still a chance that someone goes ape and starts popping caps.

I really don't see it doing much, though. You won't have scores of good citizens flocking to the stores to get equipped. When the next lunatic with a gun goes to shoot up a place, how likely is it that somebody there will actually be strapped with steel?

at least Bush has an excuse for being an idiot. twenty years of falling down drunk with cocaine takes its toll.

but there is no excuse for star student scalia failing over and over again to anticipate the consequences of his federalist thinking. This is a man who understands the needs and wants of the elites and acts accordingly, regardless what the consequences are for the prolatariat class. He will use any absurd twisted logic to achieve his goals. The end justifies the means, which is why 5 justices turned their backs on the law to impose bush on our lives.

i am not against guns, in the home, or field, but give me a fucking break. only law enforcement should have them in an airport, school, or similar public gathering place (with allowances for checking them as baggage).

This is why gun control advocates hate gun owners.

Asshat. Making the rest of us look bad.

"so the airport should allow guns... does that extend to the planes? then what about the destination airport?"

Here's an idea, how about you read the damn article before jerking that knee so hard.

"The gun group argues that weapons should be
allowed in the terminal up to the point where passengers pass through security to board their flights. The parking lot is off limits under the state law, but it allows travelers to carry a gun on MARTA trains and buses, which run directly to the airport."

ie the guns will be carried by someone most likely going to the airport to drop someone off or pick someone up. No carrying on the plane. No carrying past security. Only in the places where any ol' citizen, armed or no, can go any time of the day.

"Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin said citizens can't bring guns into the terminal and argued that airports remain attractive targets for terrorism.

Allowing citizens to carry firearms "would create an environment that would endanger millions of people," she said."

What a stupid mindless bitch. Make false claims and throw in some terrorism fear for good measure. Again, this would not allow anyone to carry any gun anywhere in the airport. The people that would be carrying are law abiding citizens with clean records and the legal permits and training to do so. What she describes (and many of you are swallowing) is just as likely to happen tonight, tomorrow or next week as it was yesterday or ten years ago. Why do people automatically think that allow LAW ABIDING gun owners to carry somewhere will increase crime and gun violence? If they've been law abiding up until this point why would they stop now? All of a sudden CCL holders are going to go off their rockers and start shooting up the airport once they an carry there? I'm sure they even have secret meetings where they've discussed this day with longing. Common people, think with your head, not your ass.

Sorry, rant over. All this gun rights news lately and dipshits making retarded ass comments that defy logic is making my head hurt.

Are you also aware that the new law lets people bring guns into BARS!!! But what do you expect from the Idiot Sonny Perdue, the GOP gov. Hey, GA is in a serious drought, but old Sonny is telling people to fill up their swimming pools and water their lawns! Nothing says inbred-mouthbreather more than Sonny!!!

So Sonny Bono was inbred MoFo too huh??

Larry

There's a difference between having a gun in the airport and having one on the plane.

Different rules apply.

Flying from two airports within the State could place this under State law.

Since airspace is usually monitored Federally, you have concurrent authorities: Fed and State.
(wasn't there something about narcotics legal in the State but Illegal by the Fed?)

Flying a plane from one State to another falls under Federal Jurisdiction- - interstate. So another set of laws probably apply.

These are guesses...

Didn't the SCOTUS declare that the States didn't have the right to regulate the Airline industry because it fell upon the FAA. This was I believe about the New York Law that had Passengers Bill of Rights. Seems to me a Federal Issue and not a State issue.

Yeah... it was after Jet Blue left people stranded on a runway for 9 hours or something... old people, babies. they said if you want to fly you take whatever the airline wants to give you because we all know what the current state of federal "regulation" is.

....I wonder if spectators are allowed to bring guns into the Supreme Court building.??.......

......or if its just the rest of us that have to live with the carnage.......

Shit like this makes it so hard for we law-abiding gun-owners to make our case that gun owners are not insane.

JPW,

oh, I suppose a gun shootout on a train or parking lot is much better than a shootout on an airplane. great idea.

"Why do people automatically think that allow LAW ABIDING gun owners to carry somewhere will increase crime and gun violence? "

Why do people who think we should allow guns everywhere only show an interest in talking about law abiding gun owners as if the other kind doesn't exist?
