Azad Sarkissian's Armenian great-grandparents settled in Iraq more than a century ago, and none of their descendants has stepped on Armenian soil since. After she tried to bring them to Canada under a refugee resettlement application sponsored by the Assyrian Methodist Church of Canada, a Canadian visa officer said the family should go to Armenia instead.

Dubya should welcome them into America with Open Arms.

Larry

Reminiscent of the voyage of the Saint Louis. Later there will be shame and regret and endless apologies. Sorry, but sending Christians back to Iraq is like sending Jews back to Germany. We have lots of room, invite them to come here. For once, we will have the moral superior position on our neighbors to the north.

Hey Spud, what's up with this? That aint cool.

BUT CANADA WELCOMES AMERICAS MILITARY DESERTERS....CLOSE ENOUGH

We are taking in Iraqis--lots of them.

Murphy the last time I seen any numbers it was around 450 TOTAL Iraqis that Dubya has let into the United States.

Larry

"We are taking in Iraqis--lots of them."

Let me ask you Murphy, did they specifically ask us to invade their country. Awful funny that those who so adamently demand we stay in Iraq because of the consequences to Iraqis if we leave don't have similar feelings for those Iraqis who face probable death if they return.
Looking at Canada in this situation is ridiculous. Canada didn't invade Iraq, the U.S. did! It is our responsibility, not CAnada's. We need to face up to our responsibility to these people!
If the damn neocons can sit happily by while 20 million Mexicans enter illegally then they can also allow a far smaller number of Iraqis to enter.

hm. not good. that harper guy has got to go...thought the conservatives in power would be a good thing as the liberals had become a bit complacent. Funny how quickly elected officials can turn their backs on the founding principles of the country they were hired to serve. Thank the stars that he got a minority gov't.

Well Danni--yes they did ask us in 1991 and we didn't go and hundreds of thousands were killed by Saddam Hussein.

We have 12,000 coming in recently and Laura Bush just said something today about bringing in more.

I have no problem bringing in the ones who risked their lives and their family's lives for our efforts in Iraq and helping our soldiers.

I want them completely vetted--whatever the number is finally going to be.

And don't wag your boney finger at me about the neocons letting in the illegals when the Dems are just as guilty and worse.

The politicians are screwing us over.

Hey Spud, what's up with this? That aint cool.

No, it aint.

The treatment of Armenian Iraqis reminds Toronto immigration lawyer Chantal Desloges of how Jewish refugees fleeing the Soviet Union after its collapse in the 1990s were denied refugee status and told to resettle in Israel instead.

Canada has had a long and shameful history of treating immigrant and refugees poorly.

The Chinese head tax was one of the first big early examples. Essentially, the Chinese were worked like animals fer bad pay in order to built the TransCanada railroad. Afterwords, the Chinese were told they had to pay a ridiculous amount of money in order to bring relatives over.

People are still bitching about that one.

An incident from 1917 was kinda telling too. The Komagata Maru incident. Canadian Law at the time stated that it was illegal fer Indian to come to Canada in anything but a direct route. The Law was passed knowing full well that no shipping line provided such a route. A boat full of immigrants tried to challenge that law and after spending 2 months off of the BC coast short on supplies they were eventually turned away back to India. After a brief discussion they were allowed to take on provisions for the trip.

Last year over 500 Chinese folks paid human traffickers to get them to Canada. 108 of them applied fer refugee status.

One got it.

It's tougher here now.

That sed, Spud feels bad fer the folks in this story. It makes nothing but sense to Spud to allow these people into Canada and this pussyassed response of trying to send them to Armenia is ludicrous.

BUT CANADA WELCOMES AMERICAS MILITARY DESERTERS....CLOSE ENOUGH

Actually, we don't welcome deserters from this current war in Iraq but we should.

Be Well.

"...yes they did ask us in 1991 and we didn't go and hundreds of thousands were killed by Saddam Hussein."

Where do you come up with this horse shit?

Dave how old are you?

Were you old enough for the war in Kuwait?

danni , it is not 20 million illegals, it is 38 million ( and once they are given amnesty, your gubment will want you to pick up the tab when they are allowed to bring their familias here, you will be able to multiply that 38 million by a minimum of 8 and that will give you the reality of this nightmare ) but look on the bright side, they will vote the marxist ticket, cause it is all about getting into your wallet, without having to work for it. They are not the backbone of this nation like your marxist bitch hillary declared, they are breaking the backbone of the middle class, and the cost to the American taxpayer is right around 335 billion dollars to date. It is not the Republicans that allowed them in, it was billy joe bob bubba clinton's bridge to the future , along with the San Diego aqua duct to the future. Letting the illegals from mexico run our border patrol did'nt help , as well as having the border patrol's uniforms made in mexico. Sorry dud , this has been going on since your boy was in power back in the 90s.I have friends in the state entitlement office, they say the parking lot is filled every week with lowrider cars with the mexican flag license plate on the front. The schools are overcrowded with illegals that can't speak English, the schools are used as day care even for the teenagers while the parents go drinking or snorting. The border states medical system is overwhelmed with hepatitis, MRSA is running rampant in the hospitals. Dozent it make you feel all warm and fuzzy though, knowing that the mexican gubment wants to have mexico become an isolationist nation, now that they got rid of their human debris, it's like saying , we don't want them back, they are your problemas now.
This just goes to show that this government can no longer protect Americans, and it is doublful that they will even try.Our forefathers in their infinite wisdom decided it was not a good thing to have foreigners determine the politic/government of this country, your assclown leftwing leadership wanted more voters to keep them in power, at your expense.Just think, if a shitwad of chinese decided to sneak into America and vote illegally. Hell, they could vote for the U.S. to become part of china , along with tiawan. And we know what the chinese think of human rights. But what would be the difference ?

Why not change the law to Canada's law--one parent has to be an American before that baby is an American? No more anchor baby! Congress can pass it and change the Constitution--38 states would vote for it in a heart beat.

You cannot believe the BC plates at our schools everyday--they drop their kids off and it's free because they don't pay our taxes.

Hospitals are closing because of the free health care--And Arnold wants to expand it!

ANd then the prisons with the 180,000 illegals in CA prisons.

But of course it's only the neocons! How convenient to blame the neocons--lol!

It is estimated that the illegals sent 13 billion dollars back to Mexico every year--just from CA!!

At least McCain got the message and secure the borders first is his mantra now--he got his ass whopped when his bill came out with Kennedy.

Obama wants to give the illegals driver's licenses--they never seem to think past their dick--what is up with that?

"Dave how old are you?"

Older than you.

Got any reasonable answer to my question or are you just spouting feces?

Canada accepts 661 Iraqi refugees

OMAR EL AKKAD

From Thursday's Globe and Mail
Canada is among the top countries for accepting refugees from Iraq this year, according to a newly prepared list by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The report shows that, of the three countries accepting the most Iraqi refugees, two are not involved in the Iraq war. According to UNHCR, Canada accepted 661 refugees this year as of last week. Sweden accepted 663 during the corresponding period, while the United States accepted 2,015.

So per capita Canada is taking in 3 times the refugee's the US is.
Spud the guy could sponsor his family under the family reunification act but maybe he doesn't want to pick up the tab if they go on welfare.

~Scotty

That makes sense.

Ta fer the clarification and fer the info that Canada is doing at least it's part in accepting Iraqi refugees.

Be Well.

You know the answer Dave--When the decision was to chase the Iraq soldiers out of Kuwait--Bush One couldn't get the UN and the coalition to go further and take out Hussein.

They made it public in the news for the Iraqis to go after Hussein themselves. Many thought they would get the US help if they put up a resistance--but no....

We retreated from the border and would not go in-- and hundreds of thousands died because of it.

You know the answer Dave--geez it was all brought up again before we went into Iraq after a 15 month build up this time around.

The Iraqis did not trust the US--they thought we would dump them again.

"Anjeal Sarkissian, her husband Karabet Aram, and their three boys, Shant, Agob and Apel, are what refugee advocates say are part of a worrisome trend as a growing number of Armenian Christian refugees from Iraq are being rejected and asked to go to Armenia despite having family connections in Canada. "We are surprised and concerned that the possibility of residency in Armenia is being used as a basis to refuse these applications," said Janet Dench, of the Canadian Council for Refugees."

Sorry folks, I think we destroyed their country and their ability to live there due to the religious freedom ( and I hate to say this) under Saddam....so we inherit a responsibility to allow them to come here. It's only fair.

"You know the answer Dave..."

Yeah, I know the answer - you read too much right-wing bullshit propaganda.

Fact is, BushI had more brains than his idiot offspring.

did they specifically ask us to invade their country

DANNI...WHAT DOES OPPRESSION MEAN TO YOU.....do you think there was a thing called freedom of speech in Iraq under Saddamm

how would you think a group of people would organise...to ask america to come free them.... do you think that Saddamm had no agents to keep the people quite

i guess North Korean people live happy unoppressed lifstlyes

how about kenya...rwanda...somlia..do you think those people like to live under oppression

More for Congress

www.politico.com

12% loathe the Congress

"12% loathe the Congress"

Now I really know the answer:

Yer an idiot.

LETS SAY THE NUMBER OF MEXICAN IN AMERICA ARE 38 MILLION..... what does that say about the Mexican government.....the question is...why come to America...when you can have America come to you

MEXICO...needs to be in line for another civil war...think about it....38 million....you will only need 8 million to take the country over...install a copycat version of America....and there you go...McAmerica

imagine if 38 million America...were to leave america.....i think a civil war would break out first

"DANNI...WHAT DOES OPPRESSION MEAN TO YOU.....do you think there was a thing called freedom of speech in Iraq under Saddamm"

They lived openly as Christians under Saddam and now their lives are in danger if they return to Iraq where the Christian community has diminished by about 90%. We destroyed the country where they could live, we have an obligation to welcome them here.
BTW.....where are the Christians on this???
For once I should be joined by all the "born agains????"
Sorry but they allow their religious beliefs to become quite meaningless and transparent. I realize now, it isn't about God, its just about profit.

DANNI...talking about christians in iraq....has little to do with oppression

Saddamm was never a religious person....he was a thug and a criminal

now answer my question....how would you think a group of people would organise...to ask america to come free them.... do you think that Saddamm had no agents to keep the people quite

Danni these sad sacks don't give a shit about Iraqis. All they give a shit about is trying to justify the unjustifiable. It NEVER fails with their ilk.

Larry Mohr

DANNI...HERE I WILL MAKE THE QUESTION EASIER FOR YOU.... "Do you think Saddamm would allow a group of people in his country to organise....the invasion or the overthrow of his regeime

Sorry Dave--didn't want to turn your head too much--
12% loathe the Congress"

Should be 12% love Congress

Nice deflection though --that your know the answer-

You won't comment about what I said--just more BS.

Please continue cupcake....

Larry this issue definitely gives them the opportunity to disprove any thought that the Iraq invasion had anything to do with human rights and they take it.
Iraqi Christians are a problem that Republican Christians seem to think would be better off ignored. Makes me wonder if any of them are really Christians or just loud mouth ignoramuses.

"DANNI...HERE I WILL MAKE THE QUESTION EASIER FOR YOU"

No, I'll make it simple for you. Do you have any obligation to the Christians who formerly lived in Iran and who cannot go back there now or not???
That's it in a nut shell.

formerly lived in Iran should have been formerly lived in Iraq. Sorry.

DANNI...there are many forms of oppression....but you are stuck on religion....how about this for a question

Do you think Saddamm had the ability to oppress people for thier religion???

but here is a real question....do you think Saddamm oppressed people for their political party

DANNI.....im Against Iran opression against its people....and if the overthrow of iranian government can be achieved..... i am all for it

I agree Danni it's disgusting to say the very least. They are trying to justify the unjustifiable in their minds because their fucking guts are a churning knowing the truth. So they are now lashing out.

Larry Mohr

DANNI....oif you want to get into the birth of a democracy...we can discuss this all day

Danni...in Americas ealry years....any form of religion outside the christian religion...was pretty much banned....witchs in america were killed for their beliefs.....but as America grew...tollerance followed....it took another 100 years to free the slaves and offer women the right to vote

Democracies do not promise a utopia....but they give the people a solution to compromise....oppression gives nothing and takes everything

"but here is a real question...."

Do their lives matter or not???

Christaian lives in Iraq do matter.....but thing take time.....they do not happen overnight....if you want a McDemocracy... you are not going to get it.....there is no such thing.....Iraq has to play its own politics and will grow on its own in time....just like america in its begining

There will never be a democracy in Iraq. It will be a Theocracy where Shiara law runs supreme. Keep trying to think nice happy thoughts because it's all BULLSHIT.

Larry Mohr

LARRY.....why do you say that...because its a ME country....that arabs are not advanced enough to know freedom of the people

or are you saying it because religion is the law of the land

LARRY.....why do you say that...because its a ME country....that arabs are not advanced enough to know freedom of the people

or are you saying it because religion is the law of the land

I doubt it's ethnically based, as you imply.

It probably has more to do with the fact that there are several "shining" examples to support his point surrounding Iraq.

I have a question for you, Judas.

When did the reason for going into Iraq change from WMD to regime change?

I've long advocated that we invade Canada and make it our colonial bitch.

We can take the oil and gas for free and let all the immigrants go there who want free health care, free housing, free everything. Let the Canucks pay for it.

And we can pass a law that it's a Class C misdemeanor to end a sentence with "Ehh?"

According to UNHCR, Canada accepted 661 refugees this year as of last week. Sweden accepted 663 during the corresponding period, while the United States accepted 2,015.

Those numbers are disturbingly low. The West can't take more than 3,200 Iraqi refugees after the coalition overthrew their government and threw the country into sectarian chaos -- not even the Christians who are particularly likely to suffer persecution?

Iraqi Christians are a problem that Republican Christians seem to think would be better off ignored. Makes me wonder if any of them are really Christians or just loud mouth ignoramuses.

Suddenly, Danni thinks that as Christians, Republicans have a responsibility to use the government for religious ends.

Remeber this the next time she's driveling about Christians trying to influence legislation

their fucking guts are a churning knowing the truth. So they are now lashing out.

Posted by LarryMohr at 2008-06-23 11:04 PM | Reply

Lashing out? It's you and Danni who are screeching that our Christian government isn't doing enough to help other Christians. You are attempting to create some moral high ground that you can then claim.

Vernon, you really are even more ignorant that I originally believed. Under Saddam the Christians lived side by side with Muslims, now they flee for their lives and we do have an obligation to them. It isn't because of their religion it's because of what we did to their country.

America's Christians aren't, who knew?

"America's Christians aren't, who knew?"
