with due respect to the losses the mid-west in this country has experienced, tis good to remember how fortunate we have it.
amazing torment those people are experiencing... blizzards in january, followed by earthquakes and now this.
these are the agricultural workers and some factory workers that've been hit... they had little weeks ago and nothing now.
it'll be interesting to see how china and international responders attend to their needs.

and china has the olympics coming up that'll shine a bright light on this entire affair. that could be the best thing that could happen to these people... otherwise they might've just been ignored.

all the best

Hmmm...

I wonder if they're looting, like they did in NOLA?

--Oohrah

The progress of the Chinese people is a farce, those in charge there and maybe 150,000,000 of there people are benefiting from there move in to the 21 century. So far so good until one realizes that they have another BILLION plus people that are living dirty poor.

These are the poor people that live in the Mountains an the Rivers where they must suffer these sort of Yearly disasters, God help them!!!

true enough.
The middle class is slowly doing better throughout China.
But right next to the high-rise apartments are the hutongs, the ghettos of unbelievable poverty. And the pollution....smog all day and night in all of the cities.

China has a long way to go. It is still in most ways a developing nation.

1.27 million people displaced. "Displaced" is a fancy term for saying they are homeless with nowhere to go. 1.27 million -- that's a lot of homeless people without shelter and probably no possessions. Sounds like entire cities and villages and towns were wiped out.

i live in china. in a remote backwater. true most folks don't have plumbing or cars. the farmers still plow by ox or horse.

but...they are much better off than they were 10, 50 and 100 years ago.

what the commies have pulled off in 50 years is the only the greatest economic miracle ever.

funny as it may sound, they do things on a bigger scale than back home. 1500 kids in my middle school. no water? no problem. no electricity? no problem. these aren't some wussified softies on prozac and dingdongs.

they are gonna rebuild and it will be "better" (whatever that is)than before and they won't look back.

the news that FEMA recently gave away millions of disaster supplies while US hurricane victims are still in emergency housing stateside YEARS later did not go unnoticed here.

"displaced" is a fancy term and china is not the US. the army has been mobilized. these folks will be in places of their own before the katrina victims.

yeah, the commies are commies but they do somethings right.

By then description so is the United States. The difference being, though, that our middle class is becoming smaller while the lower class becomes larger.

This is nothing but racism, plain and pure racism. To think the poor Chinese and those people from Iowa would be inundated with floods. Must have been caused by those damned racists. Those in charge knew it was coming and did not do a damned thing about it. Nobody sent the bus to pick me up because my car was on blocks in the back yard and I would have HAD to walk otherwise. Woe is me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do I see anybody holding out their hands for free stuff from Uncle in Iowa, or for that matter China? A free trailer or maybe a free john deere or something free from Uncle.

Going once, going twice.

"So far so good until one realizes that they have another BILLION plus people that are living dirty poor."

Everyone thinks the Chinese are this big looming threat. And they are: To the Chinese government.

Just think. As more and more true democracy filters its way into china through the internet, tourism and other methods, the communists lose more and more power.

Albeit, gradually, but progress none-the-less.

And we didn't even have to bomb them to "spread democracy".

Chinese Food Leaves One Million hungry one hour later

Yeah kwrx what gives. I could go eat 10 pounds of Chinese food and then 30 minutes later feel like I could eat 10 pounds more. What the fuck is wrong with this picture??

Larry Mohr

Well Larry, to start with, no one should be eating 10 pounds of anything.

Yeah especially Your bullshit montecore.

Larry Mohr

I think we should be good world citizens and donate to these poor people.

How about some adulterated Chinese medicine and lead-filled toys fo the kids to play with?

Oh my God. When you finally stop packing your fat face, waddle your way up out of the basement to the bathroom, and straddle that poor, unassuming toilet... it must be like a recreation of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, but with shit bombs.
