In the midst of record high gas prices, just 17% of Americans say President Bush is doing enough to solve the country's energy problems, a significant decline from already low figures in 2006.

Who are these 17%?

The president cannot do anything by sign or VETO bills. It's up to congress to make those bills.

Bully pulpit, convene conferences of stakeholders, negotiate with foreign powers.....nah, Bush pretty much can march us off to fight his little wars but he can't do shit about gas prices....which have nothing to do with de-stabilizing the Middle East.
You fucking idiot.

If that were true-how did President Clinton screw up Opec's price increase when he released a portion of our "Strategic Reserves"-to stabilize the market?

Bush HAS no desire to solve the energy crisis.

If he did he'd have released oil from our national reserves to pressure the market down.

The WH is in bed with the oil industry (as we all know)

"If he did he'd have released oil from our national reserves to pressure the market down. "

Terrible idea. Talk about pandering. Any candidate that advocates this doesn't get my vote. Period. Regardless of speculative bubbles, high gas prices are here to stay, and the sooner people realize it and adjust to it, the better.

NULLI

Maybe it's pandering, maybe it's not. Many presidents have done so in the last 30 years.

When speculators are driving up prices to ridiculous prices sometimes only an action like that can bring some sanity to the oil markets. It's been done several times before and worked.

"Many presidents have done so in the last 30 years."

And every case was an example of pandering. Real leaders would've smoothed the transition to the downside of the global petroleum supply curve by proposing higher gasoline taxes.

The road ahead will be much more painful because of such myopia/pandering/cowardice, etc.

OK

Any candidate that advocates this doesn't get my vote.

He's not a candidate, but I heard that hero of the right, Newt Gingrich, advocating this very thing last night.

.......*** Public Faults Bush Lack of Action *****

.....now the same people want to elect Bush 2 ..who finished in the bottom 5 of a class of 800.....

.....and who has never had a real job......

Apparently not.

Who are these 17%?

FWthom, Rob, Sniper, 101, BLT, Crackpipe....

The usual suspects.

Bush could arm all our nukes, shoot them straight up and these clowns would be commending him for starting a new urban revival.

YOUR wonderful leaders in the legislative branch are in the DRIVERS seat. Pointing fingers at the oil companies as they have been reminds me of this story.

There were three dogs looking in the butcher shop window. One conservative, one centrist and one liberal. the conservative dog says "lets go in and ask if we can earn a bone". The centrist dog says "lets ask if he will donate us each a bone". The liberal dog says "lets sit out here and whine, until he GIVES us a bone"!

We were not at war then. Why all blame gaming? Your liberal back to earthers have been wanting this. The logic being higher energy costs would make so called alternative energy profitable and therefore viable. By the way if profits are so terrible they should be talking hedge funds. Oil company's 8.3 to 9 % profit margin. Hedge funds 81.3 %. Oh yea, Al Gore owns one, john Edwards is deeply involved in one and Chelsey Clinton works for one.

**** The centrist dog says "lets ask if he will donate us each a bone". The liberal dog says "lets sit out here and whine, until he GIVES us a bone"!
