Very sad. He was one of the very few talking heads whom I trusted.

Only 58?

Great questioner for 17 years on "Meet the Press," didn't care what the stripe of the politicos he interviewed, always on top of things with excellent and thorough research, and came across as a guy you'd really like to sit down with and drink a beer.

RIP

Ugh. Russert drove me crazy with his endless fascination with horse race and "gotcha" coverage of politics, but he was an institution in political journalism.

holy crap...

Wow that's a surprise.

He was quite the bon vivant, but guys like him work around the clock, don't exercise, and carry too much weight. I always watched his show.

Condolences to Big Russ and family. Tough to lose a child, especially one who showed such great respect and love for his dad.

What a shock. Too young, my Dad died at the same age, just as suddenly. Very sad.

Buffalo Bills fans and Jesuits are whipping their backs in sorrow today.

Seriously, Scooter gets his revenge!

Wow - one thinks that heart attacks aren't fatal anymore until these things happen. Was there a history? Was he not on medication? Sad; he wasn't bad, really, he was no dummy.

How many userthreads are up on this same story! I'll repost the same comment I put up earlier on LeeAtwater's userthread of this same story that was the back page. Guess Rcade is using this thread instead.

Walked in the den and just now saw this on CNN.
Heart attack at age 58. I'm really stunned. I've watched him a lot over the years. Best wishes to his family. Their grief has only just begun.

ask god some tough questions, tim.

all the best to your family.

My doc told me half the time, the first real indication is a heart attack. And about half those times, the last.

Oh my God!

This is just aboslutely sad and shocking. I still can't believe it's true.

Sunday mornings won't be the same anymore.

Tim Russert was a great and tough interviewer and a decent man.

Oh my God!

An Irish blessing for Tim Russert --

"May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
May the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand."

.........gotta start that diet tomorrow.........

........Brian Budd died two days ago.....I played against him.......

R.I.P., Edward R. Morrow will be there to greet you, you will not be alone......

Wah...wah...what!!!

I'm glad I caught the late night rerun of Meet the Press last week. Who knew it would be his last? His show was head and shoulders above the other Sunday morning dreck.

Maybe they can get Hannity or O'Reilly or some other "journalist" to replace him.

Tears R.I.P.

Tim Russer in irreplaceable, and certainly not by any ot the jokers at Faux News.

OMG!!!

He was the ONE guy I liked watching. Always fair.

the grim reaper comes for us all.
its always too bad when it comes for someone at an age that is deemed too young.
but let me talk about tom brokaw a moment.
on the special report you could tell he was also in shock and sad but he delivered a message just as powerfull as chronkite did on the news of jfk.
just as his friend russert was......it was a spectualar display of professionalism.

these guys just look good and read from a teleprompter MOST of the time, but brokaw did his profession REAL GOOD this afternoon.
on sunday mornings I NEVER MISS fox news sunday and then go right to meet the press.....he was ALWAYS PREPARED and most of the time he wouldnt shy away from asking someone from any political side, questions that I would want to ask.

it will be really hard for nbc to replace him........
and how ironic that the subject of his GREAT BOOK will now have to bury him instead of the other way around,.
sometimes life is just not fair.

One of my all-time favorite Russert questions, to Richard Perle, late February, 2003:

"Can you assure American viewers that we're in this situation against Saddam Hussein and his removal for American security interests? And what would be the link in terms of Israel?"

To me he was the Walter Cronkite of my generation.

You could trust him no matter what your political views to be fair, probing, thorough.

God, this is sad.

Whooo... so sudden... what a surprise!!!!

But life has not given anyone guarantee that he/she will die young or old. Death is no respector of persons.

Here today, gone tomorrow --- like a vapor (James 4:14).

Where will you spend eternity? A question no one can avoid --- sooner or later!

Wow just wow.

Did NOT see this coming.

Despite Spud's feeling that Tim Russert was sometimes a little overly cozy and with some of the people he was covering he was, at the end of the day, a touchstone fer those of us who follow political journalism on a regular basis and one who's basic humanity came through loud and clear.

Heart attack?

At 58?

Too young.

** Suddenly Spud's own mortality has become a little bit more obvious and encrouching to him. **

Brrrr!

Meet the Press w/o Russert is gonna seem weird.

Here's to good Irish friends
Never above you
Never below you
Always beside you

~Irish Blessings

RIP Tim Russert.

Be Well.

I can't tell you how many times I had set my VCR the night before to tape Tim Russert's early Sunday morning "Meet the Press" show. I'd sleep in and then get up and watch the tape later on with my morning coffee. My tradition has now ended.

He died on Friday the 13th?

Guess it really is unlucky.

Be Well.

A good man, some of Moynihan's persona must have rubbed off on him. Better than the average talking head. Not quit as good as 60 Minutes, Frontline or Moyers. Not even in the same league as Mahre or Stewart. He tried harder to discredit McClelland than Cheney. But, he loved to ask embarrassing questions, missing solutions and the big picture in the process.

he was a little cozy, thats true,......his best freind was cobrahead carvile.....if you can believe that........they shared seats at national and wizard games......

There goes one fourth of my Sunday morning viewing. 58? Scheifer must be 90!

RIP...Russ.

Nice to see us coming together for a moment.

I used to call him Mr. Potato Head.

And I never missed his show--Meet Depress. You think you know some of these TV folks politics and I thought he leaned to the left. But......

The turning point for me that this guy was the real deal on fairness---or honesty and not biased--was when he asked Hillary in that debate about driver licenses for illegals. And he wouldn't
let her dodge the question. That was integrity.

He could have skipped that question and no one would have been the wiser.

So I viewed him in a different light.

He was one of the good guys and will be sorely missed.

.........gotta start that diet tomorrow........

I already have. Lost about 8 pounds so far. Also started to walk a lot. I wonder if Russert had any recent medical physical exam? Most physicians check guys his age for any signs of heart disease.

Russert was at work when he had his heart attack and in his business of 24/7 breaking news and deadlines to keep it had to be a very stressful job.

Not even in the same league as Mahre or Stewart.

I REALLY dont want to sully this with an attack.
but you cant be serious in typing those names on THIS THREAD..........remember nut....those two are NOT JOURNALIST>....they are fuckin comedians.....
and heres another jolt for you.
sit down for this one....

most of the tape they use.....IS DOCTORED........

Very sad.

Another reminder to never take life for granted because you never know when it's going to end.

Share your love in words and actions to those whom you love.

I imagine that even as his body is heading to the mortuary his fellow NBC talking heads are probably angling for his job on Meet the Press.

When Bob Schieffer retired from CBS there wasn't another host I cared to watch. George Stephanopolous is too much a "pop journalist" for my taste. FoxNews Sunday is what it is.

Tim was the REAL deal. A probing journalist who dug deep and held every guest's feet to the fire. You never felt he was 'going after' any guest - right or left. Always a friendly gentleman.

It's as though Walter Cronkite died.

I'm so sad. Maybe because I've had so many losses of my own this year. Like Cronkite, he was a sort of family member to American TV viewers. Always there. Always great.

I was looking forward to his coverage of this years election. What a loss. My wife and I watched him every Sunday since he took over MTP. The VCR was always set if we weren't going to be able to catch the show. The podcast of MTP was my only subscription. What a loss!

FATHER'S DAY

Russert's sudden death serves as a reminder.
No matter what your age, if your Dad is still here be grateful and tell him you love him this Sunday on Father's Day. You never know when you may lose him forever and never get another chance.

Danni,

Could you refrain from complaining just for a moment?

Please?

I just don't understand it. So many sad things happen, and yet it is this news that literally moved me to tears, and I'm not a very emotional person. But there is just something so wrong, so off about this, that I can't help react this way.

AU.....you are flat wrong about fox news sunday but lets argue that point at another time......dont forget though because I will not let you off the hook......

its especailly sad for those of us who are also 58......

i get tears when left and right come together
good job guys ;)

BL2

I said FoxNewsSunday 'is what it is'. I'm not going to argue what "is" is, and have no desire to argue the merits of FoxNews Sunday. I like Chris Wallace, but FoxNews is so blatantly biased to the right it's hard to take anything they air seriously in my house.

:-)

Russert was the ONE guy, after Schieffer retired, that most Americans trusted to be fair and balanced no matter who the guest. Everyone liked him. No one ever felt they were going to get an unfair interview. He never let anyone off the hook - right or left.

He was the gold standard in modern TV journalism.

My dad died young too. I feel bad for Russert's wife and son. Much too young to die.

As a replacement I'd like to see Chuck Todd. Another young, unbiased journalist.

Yes--Father's Day--

Sent my Dad a card and Barnes gift card.

And for Sunday we are all going to Red Lobster.

Prayers to his family and his son.

"Of the major network interviewers he seemed, to me anyway, among the fairest. An equal opportunity questioner."

I seem to remember his explanation: he just took whatever position the guests' harshest critics took, and went from there.

Well--AU--

Big Russ is on the barka lounger!

That was reported by Tim to McCulliffe who made the same remark a few weeks ago.

Chuck Todd is not unbiased--totally to the left and his wife is good friends and worked on the Jim Webb campaign.

Of course this whole TV business is pretty incestuous--with Stephanopoulous and others coming from administrations and such.

Sorry-AU--I read your post wrong--

I am truly sorry about Your Dad passing.

My Mom dies when she was 42--breast cancer.

It was very hard for a long time.

kind of sucks going into an election season that Russert is gone. He was never afraid to call people on their bullshit, and was a great interviewer... this is a big loss for the country.

Maybe he can write a book now entitled "Jesus and me."

He's legendary.

One of the good ones...RIP Tim.

I was at the bank when I saw this on the TV..... what I shocker.... 58 and keeled over.

-Ugh. Russert drove me crazy with his endless fascination with horse race and "gotcha" coverage of politics, - Rogers

Agreed.

This will stand as a warning not to fuck with the Clintons. ;^)

RIP Lil' Russ.

Russert was a mouth piece for bushco. Did he choke on Bill Clinton's cock, seeing that he loved it so much.

Zel-
Shut up. A man just died an untimely death.

RIP Tim, we're gonna miss you in a big way

BLT,

During medieval times only Jokers (Comedians) criticized the King. Everyone else would lose their head. Today its only your job at stake. But there is more truth on the Daily Show and Bill Mahre than anyone except Free Speech TV. Its all there in between the Comedy. Nixon had the Smothers Brothers and Rowen & Martin's Laugh-in cancelled. Bush got Mahre fired when he criticized Clinton of all people. The fatal comment attributed firing cruise missiles into Afghanistan as cowardly. Today, we live within a collection of powerful Fiefdoms, none remotely Democratic.

MURPHY

They say things come in waves. It's been quite a year in the grief department for sure. I'm still reeling from it all and feeling a little numb. Just this morning I woke up with my pillow wet from tears I cried during a dream about my sister I just lost. Weird how real life makes it's way into dreams. I should probably get a little grief therapy. It's just been one after another this year in my immediate family.

At least I have a few more guardian angels around me and a wife I love with all my heart.... I'm blessed that's the case. I just hugged her for 5 minutes and thanked her for loving me so much. I can't imagine how life would be just now without her love in my life.

Thank you for your kind words. Even though we're on opposite sides of the political spectrum you're a good human being.

:-)

Chuck Todd is not unbiased--totally to the left and his wife is good friends and worked on the Jim Webb campaign.

MURPHY

In his personal life, sure. Same with Russert, who was a lifelong Democrat, but never let his personal views seep into his interviewing. He was relentless with both the right and left in making guests account for their views and actions.

No one is unbiased. The thing that set Russert, Cronkite, and others apart was that they left their personal views at the door when the red light came on.

Loved This guy!

May peace be with his family.

A true American.

The emitomy of non partisan.

sorry... epitomy

He was on everyone's side.

We really needed him this election year. His shoes will be very, very difficult to fill.

My condolences to his family.

PAX

Damn, Friday the 13th took its toll. I thought I was having a shitty day, but at least I can look forward to tomorrow.

Let 'em R.I.P.

The Clock of Life
by Robert H. Smith, copyright 1932, 1982

The clock of life is wound but once,
And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop
At late or early hour.

To lose one's wealth is sad indeed,
To lose one's health is more,
To lose one's soul is such a loss
That no man can restore.

The present only is our own,
So live, love, toil with a will,
Place no faith in "Tomorrow,"
For the Clock may then be still.

okay AU.......so here is the main question.....do you even watch it?
EVERY SUNDAY they have a mix of each. schumer is almost a regular there and they have even had several people there who have refused earler..
obama, remember......and even terry mcaufulfe said just a week or so that he was treated better on that show than the others........
remember I am not talking about any others and even with orieely and hannity, you will see voices from the other side time after time.
and just LAST SUNDAY on face the nation......ALL THREE GUESTS WERE DEMOCRATS trashing the right with NO REBUT OR COMMENT from schiefer........

NUTSCASE.......one more time.....many if not most of those clips you see on those two.....ARE DOCTORED AND EDITED......
now dont get me wrong....I LOVE STEWART AND rarely miss him.....but you soil the name of russert when you even put them on this thread.......they ARE NOT JOURNALISTS.
and look at this......two hardcore leftwingers are heros here but fox is villified. seems to me that if you like stewart because he is liberal then why cant I like fox? and I know why/......its because YOU DONT WANT ME TO HEAR THE OTHER SIDE.....only what the liberals put out....which isnt always the truth or the whole story.

and now PLEASE back to acknowledging the passing of a REAL JOURNALIST..........please!!!!
!!

Cronkite, and others apart was that they left their personal views at the door when the red light came on.

WRONG AGAIN>......dam do I have a lot of things to set YOU STRAIGHT ON.........lol

okay AU.......so here is the main question.....do you even watch it?

BL2

I have and do from time to time. But, I'm not into spending 3 hours every Sunday (or any other day) watching pundits punditize (I made up that word didn't I? LOL).

MTP was the one show I watched without fail.

BL2

Did I knock FoxNews Sunday? I didn't think so. I said, "it is what it is".

Chris Matthews is OK. I can't stand Bill Kristol, so I turn it off when the panel comes on. Kristol's been wrong about everything regarding Iraq, yet he still draws a paycheck. To me, that's just wrong.

MTP's panel are all great to watch. Those on the right and left tell it pretty straight. To me it's a little more 'journalistic' than punditry. But, like I said I don't watch 2 hours of politics on TV on any given day.

Anyway, RIP Tim Russert. You're going to be missed around my house.

But, like I said I don't watch 2 hours of politics on TV on any given day.

well thats good and bad......bad that you miss things but good in that you wont have to attend the political sluts meetings with me.......cant get enough.....

and now is the time I normally yell.....its margarita time in texas.....but not today......instead I will raise the first one towards the tv which surely will have something on aboutit and if it doesnt, it doesnt matter..
I will raise my glass towards it and say......

mister russert

nice job.

Damn. I liked when he did casual interviews one on one, like with Jon Stewart. Nice guy.

BL2

Here here! (to Russert)

I like the word--sounds very Colbert! "Punditize"

You know AU--if you are thinking you need to talk with someone--you should.

Call a Grief Counselor organization.

I had dreams with my Mom after she passed away.

She was in a car....

I told this to some friends and their relatives who passed away were in their dreams--in a car.

It's weird.

MURPHY

Cars:

I had a dream my dad showed up in the back of a taxicab I was riding in the Phillipines. He came to tell me he'd passed away, how proud he was of me, and to take care of my mom and sister.

I woke up to a tear stained pillow. When I woke up and went to the front door to get the paper there wss a telegram:

"Your father has passed away. Please call ASAP"

I still don't feel like that was a dream. Not when I wake up to the reality....

Murphy, I'm gonna call someone if I don't get started soon.

I think the best thing I can do is to quit avoiding opening that tub full of thousands of family photos. A walk down 50 years of memory lane is probably just what I need to get the grief process started.

I've learned in my life that the quickest way to get through things is to walk straight through them and not around them.

For some reason though, my sister's death (we were like twins with an incredibly strong bond) has left me unwilling to start walking through it just yet. It needs to happen I know.

Maybe I'll pull the lid off that tub tonight and at least peer inside... That would be a start.

You're aw-ite

:-)

wish he did a better job of calling cheney on his crap

Unity you fucking pussy do you want a fucking tissue... should i get you a fucking tampn you sissy.. boo hoo

RIP

Even though he was a fucking lib.

My mom dies, m dad dies, my sister dies Boo-fucking -hoo, everybody dies. Estrogen level a bit hig today unity?????

Im going to look at pictures so I can get some closure... fucking pussy... dont forget to cry like a little fucking school girl you fag.

Grow the fuck up. lfe it tough, live with it. But then again I am sure you are some lib pussy.

AU - I lost my Uncle last year, not a distant, "Oh he's my Uncle" type of guy, but "he helped to raise me" type of guy. My Mum was visiting me at the time and it was tough, he was ill, and we were all hoping that he would pull through. One night I had a dream that I visited him in the hospital, he was sat in the reception area looking hale and hearty and I sat next to him and said "what is the problem, you look fine to me" he said "that's cause I am fine, I really am". The next morning my Mum wakes me and tells me he is gone. I was fine, I really was, cause he had visited me the night before and told me he was okay. I truly believe that. This happens in my family, I am used to it (even though my Uncle was the disbeliever of all disbelievers! *LOL*)

Why don't you die 08r4ever.

My bet is that your mommy wasn't anything to be proud of and your daddy spent his evenings at the bar. He sure wasn't home to teach you any manners. And who would cry for that whore you call sis when she robbed everyone in the family to feed her crack habit - or was that you? Yeah, that sounds about right asshole. Do the world a favor.

08--If you have something to say--raise your hand and place it over your mouth.

Russert was a liberal--but better than most.

08R4 - I really think you are not trying hard enough to be a dick, you really need to try harder cause obviously you are failing miserably. Wanker.

Whatever you say 08r4ever

ozark.... Are you talking about your imbred redneck family again?

murphy, why don't you go over to unitys house and sing cumbyah....

NBC lost two heavyweights today. Losing Tim Russert was a big blow to the network. But the sports world lost another great with Charlie Jones' passing today. Add Jim McKay and you have arguably the greatest losses in broadcast history this week.

"Grow the fuck up. "

Posted by 08r4ever

Good advice, stankface. Why don't you take it?

Jo,
"Stankface" what the fuck does that mean boy?

Hey jo,

You and unity can get married now, it is legal.

Bush and Cheney are really going to miss Russert! He was the best soft-ball pitcher they ever had!!!

AU--LOL--

Great photo of 08!

Streetfighting god--yes indeed!

That was funny..'o)

:-)

LITLBRIT

Ya, isn't it strange how things like that happen?

In a way, having that dream I had about my dad (who died unexpectedly) made opening that telegram slightly less of a shock - as I hope your dream did over your uncles passing.

Gonna be a heck of a party on the other side I'll tell ya.....
I said in my sister's eulogy that she'll have everything all set up when I get there LOL She was a great party planner who always had more baked goods and food than anyone could eat.

They are way smarter than we are you know AU? I know that, I am assured of that. When we are in our moments of despair they are doing their thing, letting us know, I have always been aware of that. "I have not gone far, I have just gone to the other room"

NBC is doing an hour special on Russert at 10 pm EST

In about a minute....

BRIT

This is one of my all time favorite poems:

I Did Not Die

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow;

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain;

I am the gentle Autumn's rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush.

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft star that shines at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.

I am not there;

I did not die.

- Anon -

AU - thanks for that, I had forgotten it, "I am not there, I did not die" in those words I can believe. Your sister is just in another room, just a door away. Just a door away.

This is the reason I got up early on Sunday mornings.

Farewell, Tim. You will never be forgotten.

You're welcome BRIT

I saw that door once. I was told "it's not your time".

Great NBC special on Russert

Loved the story about him meeting JFK when he was a boy.

Autopsy Report Results

Ouote from somewhere --

"...Russert's physician, Michael Newman, said cholesterol plaque ruptured in an artery, causing sudden coronary thrombosis.

Russert had earlier been diagnosed with asymptomatic coronary artery disease, but it was well-controlled with medication and exercise, and he had performed well on a stress test in late April, Newman said. An autopsy revealed that he also had an enlarged heart, Newman said. "

Heard tonight on tv --

They used a difbrulator on him three times on the way to the hospital restarting his heart each time but it was still too late. A commentator said Russert had to arrange having his father (and he was extremely close to his Dad) put in an assisted living home in 10 days and that was upsetting him plus he had arranged to meet with his wife and son (who just graduated college this month) as they were coming back from Italy and needed to fly and attend some meetings re work all which put him under a lot of pressure and stress lately. Add the stress to the heart condition and there's your recipe for a heart attack.

And thanks too BRIT

Did you catch the special on Russert on NBC Chris?

As a right wing nut, who never watches NBC, I always watched 'meet the press" in addition to all the wonderful tributes to the last of the great journalists...He always made me smile, his smile was so infectous, he was having so much fun, you had fun just watching him..He was a good and decent man...I read his book and I envied him and was happy for him at the same time, His father was his Hero and role model and he couldn't have gotten a better one..

The Lord has prepared a place for you at his table, Tim..God speed and rest well

HILLYBILLY

Nice tribute man

that was a nice poem but for my money, noone will beat dylan thomas for speaking to every aspect of life and death.

dying of the light........a magnificent work of art.

kind of sucks going into an election season that Russert is gone. He was never afraid to call people on their bullshit, and was a great interviewer... this is a big loss for the country.

wait, I think, no, YES! A PIG JUST FLEW OUT OF MY ASS! I AGREE WITH WOBBIE.

Man, I was an admirer and am sad at what happened, but jeez, the circle jerk that's been going on all the cable news channels tonight seems a bit much. They are just all so full of their self-importance. It's their job to tell us what's going on in the world, not tout their own horn and tell us what gods they are.

You should stop taking pig up the ass Briwo.

Dawg: I know, it's a weakness.

Pork: The other white meat.

Oink

My brother rode the bus to High School with Russert. By all accounts a really nice guy.
The guys at
The Beast might feel a little guilty right now (see number 35).
Naw, probably not.

Russert was a good man.

R.I.P. Tim Russert

New release of Tim's unreleased report on the final results of Bush's war on terror:

brianpuccio.net

I think I'll sleep 'til noon this Sunday instead of getting up to watch MTP as I've done so long.

Then again it'll be interesting to see what happens now.

What a great man and a consummate unbiased interviewer

RIP

It's possible that Osama is winning his war, he has got most of what he wanted.

$135 oil and never ending conflict.

But that doesn't mean we should declare defeat and run, just the opposite, it means we must adapt and fight smarter.

wait, I think, no, YES! A PIG JUST FLEW OUT OF MY ASS! I AGREE WITH WOBBIE.

Here comes another radio show...

How long before Bani is here posting entire articles about how Russert was killed by George P. Bush and the ghost of Ronald Reagan's clone?

And then of course Buffalo_Bob with a Youtube.com video showing Russert on the moon wearing no space suit since it was filmed in Syracuse, NY.

Let's leave atrawmen for another thread

Well, I didn't like Russert as an interviewer. I thought he was inane, and the debates were disgraceful.

But he was a decent guy that showed a lot of love and respect for his family. RIP.

Meet The Press (at MSNBC.com) has just put up this email address for anyone wishing to offer condolences to the Russert family

Russert.Condolences@nbcuni.com

There will be a special edition of MTP this Sunday anchored by Tom Brokaw

"In 2008, John McCain works hard to convince people he's not just like George W. Bush. In 2005, John McCain worked hard to convince people of the exact opposite.

Looking over the transcript from the June 19, 2005, episode of "Meet the Press," the context of the video is actually slightly worse for McCain. Tim Russert read off a list of issues on which McCain and Bush appear to disagree and told the senator, "The fact is you are different than George Bush." McCain responded, "No. No."

One could argue, I suppose, that this was in 2005, and McCain has reinvented himself since then, but then again, looking at his Senate voting record, McCain voted with Bush's position 95% of the time in 2007 and 100% of the time in 2008.

McCain gets pretty annoyed when his critics talk about a "third Bush term," but it's hard to deny that McCain has already made the argument for us. He not only shares Bush's agenda and platform, but McCain spent years telling national audiences that no one agrees with Bush more than he does."

bravenewfilms.org

Russert pretty much pegged Clinton as a hawk for Israel. He was a Schindler among Reich-wing interviewers.

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BARAK - the brief shot of Howard Dean's disturbing lack of faith is freakin' hilarious.

Tim Russert. A gaint, no! A leader among the liberal media, yes! Lets be honest, would there be the same coverage for a conservative news person, I don't think so.

Condolences to Tim's family and friends. He perfected the techinque of reading their own conflicting statements to his guests, without rancor, and then waiting while they tried to respond. RIP, Tim.

My stepfather also died in his late 50s. It was a wake up call to the rest of the family. Carpe diem, folks.

RIP Tim. I was taken aback when I saw the news. Much too young. Something to be learned from his tribute to his father and now his father burying his son.

Danni, condolences to your loss of your dad at such a young age.

AU, thanks for the poem.

Everyone in the TV news business has a God Father, Russert's was Senator Moynihan, Democrat from New York. He never asked embarrassing questions of anyone on the left. All you communists get wound up about Fox News, but the fact remains Fox employees donated four times as much money to the Kerry Presidential Campaign as they did to the Bush campaign. Since liberals are tight fisted, I suspect that liberals out number conservative by more than four to one at Fox.

one second you are there and one second you are gone...

sadface.

another voice of reason has left the stage.

we need as many as we can get and i will miss him.

I am going to hug my kids now... I am so glad I woke up alive today!

Condolences to the family...especially on fathers day weekend!

I've never been a big fan of Russert. Never go out of my way to watch him on TV. Always seemed like just another talking head. Arrogant and self annointed arbiter of public opinion. I'm sure a hundred more will crop up instantly to replace him.

You never know when you will pass. I have had a couple friends younger than 50 pass this past year. Both very un-expected.

Being 53 you begin to take stock in your live. I used to put things like big trips, etc. off until I retire. I have begun doing them now. Retirement is not guaranteed (or tomorrow for that matter). I will figure out something else to do when I retire. Probably spoil my grandkids.

My kids are all out of the house and on their own. I call them each during the week to see how they are going. No conversation ends without telling them that I love them and I am proud of them.

Nothing would make me more sad then if something happened to me and the last words I had with one of my children were not that. "I love you and I am proud of you".

I thought MTP was one of the few watchable shows of the type, and thought his book was okay. But given the nonstop coverage of his life and death, you'd have thought he was a former president. One reason I liked him above the others is that he wasn't invested in his own celebrity.

You'd never guess that from the nonstop coverage and tributes, though. I was at Firehouse Subs last night, and they had Sean Hannity on, interviewing Jack Welch (former GE head) about the interviews Welch had with Russert! Yes, Russert loved his dad, loved his wife and kids. I generally assume that's true of everyone, without asking for corroboration from everyone who ever had a conversation with him.

RIP. The Mississippi River is flooding, gas prices are over $4, there's a war on, but the Washington press corps knows what's really important.

Tim Russert Dies

How long before Bani is here posting entire articles about how Russert was killed by George P. Bush and the ghost of Ronald Reagan's clone?

ha, ha ROBBY Deer...starring in the headlites again?:>)

I have to agree with rir, the coverage is beyond belief. I could understand a couple of hours but now we're going on days! Yes he did have an interesting show most of the time and loved his Family like any Man should. But he was a Talk Show Host no better than any other American that put passion into his work and wasn't afraid to show Love for his Family. He'd probally be embarrassed by the way MSNBC is covering this.

Its interesting how different people have such different ideas about things like this. I didnt expect to read this from moder or the one from alexandrite. Not critizing, but just think its interesting that I and so many others think just the opposite. and political ideaology doesnt seem to really play a role in it...I dont think....do you?

Tim Russert was known as the "gentle giant" -- over 6' tall and always mild mannered.
His Dad was a garbage collector and he never forgot his roots and background growing up as just an average guy. No one ever saw him give out phony airs of elitism or snobbery. Russert is the one commentator where you never heard anything negative said about him from either side of the aisle -- whether or not you agreed with his particlar points of view. He seemed to have everyone's respect. It won't be the same going thru the rest of the 2008 election year without him.

Great MTP this morning. I just finished watching it online.

Probably premature (and I don't mean disrespect for bringing it up), but I wonder if Ted Koppel would come out of retirement or if Tom Brokaw will step in temporarily.
