Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A world-renowned Harvard child psychiatrist whose work has helped fuel an explosion in the use of powerful antipsychotic medicines in children earned at least $1.6 million in consulting fees from drug makers from 2000 to 2007 but for years did not report much of this income to university officials, according to information given Congressional investigators.

Say "bye-bye," Dr. Biederman.

You can always tell a Harvard man.

You just can't tell him much.

The have got to get physicians, the pharmaceuticals, medical researchers, and all former and current employees of the FDA at a far longer distance than a mere arms-length away from one another.

Pharmaceutical reps wine and dine physicians to entice them to prescribe their company's drugs.

During Bush's term members of the FDA would quit their job and go to work immediately upon leaving with the big pharmaceutical companies -- the very companies whose drugs they were deciding whether or not were safe for patients.

The conflicts of interest were an abomination of every possible ethics code and sense of fairness. One guy left Bush's FDA and immediately took a job at more than $1 million a year with a pharmaceutical company.

Does anyone think these FDA inspectors would not close an eye to drug testing results when they knew they would soon be on the payrolls of the very companies they were suppose to regulate?

These Universities, especially the anchient eight are so corrupt and full of professors working for the overthrow of the United States that they need to be burned to the ground.

"Surgeon General C. Everett Koop caught in an ethical scandal involving worker health and safety. Dr. Koop unexpectedly testified before a U.S. Congress hearing on the health hazards of latex gloves. He said the reports of allergic reactions to these gloves by hospital nurses and other health-care workers were exaggerated. "Borderline hysteria" is what he called the complaints. Dr. Koop's opinions were widely reported and had an important impact on Congress and the general public.

What Congress and the public did not know was that at the time he testified, Dr. Koop had just completed a four-year business contract with a major latex-glove manufacturing corporation, WRP Corp. As a result of this contract, according to Noble's report, Dr. Koop earned $656,250 in consulting fees from the company in the four-year period from 1994 to 1998."

They wine and dine anybody remotely medical. My step daughter is a dental assistant, with zero ordering or purchasing authority and one of the Braun sales reps gave her a GPS for her car because everyone else in the office that day already had been given one.

How true....and how sad for us.

Expand that thought even further CHRIS... and this can be said of most gov regulators and many in congress.

goes right to the heart of everything that is WRONG with "health care" in the US and it's child-states. The last thing the medical schools or the pharma-mafia want is a healthy population. Don't you fools understand that yet?

This is VERY bad news for Obama. Since Obama went to Harvard, this is yet another close link with a bad person and makes us, once again, question his associations.

Continuing to grasp for straws,
The Right.

Gee B

So far you're the only one who went there.

Just because your doctor doesn't have the integrity to do the research to determine if the drugs work or not... no reason to blame the drug company for doing as they have a legal mandate to do, i.e. to increase their bottom line.

I have doc's in my family who go to these dinners then come home and laugh about how they wouldn't prescribe that med in 100 years... but the dinner was sure tasty.

Blame the M.D.'s, not the big pharma... in this case at least.

kwrx25,

Many apologies for cracking a fricken joke!

Here's Pravda's take on the story (for what it's worth):

Harvard University Finds Itself Involved in Money-Laundering Scandal

I don't think not reporting the income to the university puts a professor into the money laundering game. If he was stupid enough not to report the income to the IRS, well, then he's got some really serious problems.

Anyone know Harvard's policies on this? I know of state universties where if you did not fully report such income you would be liable to criminal prosecution as well as a loss of your position (tenure notwithstanding).

if it was a joke, then yeah.... the joking didn't come across to me in the text...such is the internet.

yeah the evil drug companies should be taken over and nationalized just like healthcare, oil, medicare, medicaid, ssn, etc, etc, etc

FUCKING GREEDY,PILL PUSHIN, LOW DOWN, DIRTY, DO GOODER, LEFTIST, PRICK.

Ah, time for my happy pill.
Prediction:
One day the drug tests will be to make sure you have taken your pills.

I'm just glad that we didn't let Medicare negotiate for better prices on meds for seniors because Big Pharma needs those extra dollars for marketing.

"FUCKING GREEDY,PILL PUSHIN, LOW DOWN, DIRTY, DO GOODER, LEFTIST, PRICK."

Just how did you determine that he is a "LEFTIST???"

Doesn't sound like a lefty to me.

Oooooo, I like the one about the oil. Did you know that Venezualans pay 13 cents for a gallon of gas?

We thought this was a difficult situation for the Harvard. With all the influence peddling and corruption, favoritism. How do they manage to wake up every morning and look at themselves in the mirror?

In one example, Dr. Biederman reported no income from Johnson & Johnson for 2001 in a disclosure report filed with the university. When asked to check again, he said he received $3,500. But Johnson & Johnson told Mr. Grassley that it paid him $58,169 in 2001, Mr. Grassley found.

...must be nice to not notice an extra $58,000 dollars in your account...

You would think that after the Summer's fiasco, the Harvard name would connote disgrace and people would want to disassociate themselves from it, except that it has a huge endowment and lots of money to disburse.

The marketing strategies of the drug companies are creative marvels. I think that one that outdoes itself is the ploy under which parents of ADD children are organized to promote use and sale of the pharmaceutical company's drugs shilling their heartfelt beliefs that the diseases are real, and that the RXs are the cure.

So securing a paid for endorsement is no accomplishment for the marketers. And it seems that it's pin money that this doctor received. This doctor needs an agent.

Agent? Well ...

Mama's drunk,
Papa's in jail,
Sister's on the corner
Yelling "Pussy for sale."

Now sister and doctor are in the same business. Maybe they both need pimps to sell their bodies and souls for money.

Money, money, money
Is a wonderful thing.

Money, money, money
Makes cash registers ring.

So,

Love it makes the world go round,
But money greases the wheels.

Okay, who's finds the fact that the doctor has not only sold himself for pelf, but recognizes that he has, and has attentped to conceal his cupidity, to be something unusual?

"Mama's drunk,
Papa's in jail,
Sister's on the corner
Yelling "Pussy for sale."
