If Sonny Bono can do it--Franken should be a shoo-in.

If Jesse Ventura can do it, Franken should be a shoo-in.

pssst, Bob, Sonny Bono was never a senator. He was a representative from Palm Springs.

and I know, Ventura was a governor, but the Minnesota thing is a little easier to compare.

If Gopher can do it then Franken should be a shoo-in.

If Ronald Reagan....Arnold Swarzenegger....

If Ben Jones can do...oh. Nevermind.

Wacko Franken should be the keynote speaker at the dem convention. He is so far out that he actually makes some dems look almost sane.

duh

Didn't Franken run that unfunny liberal Air America radio station into the ground. Maybe he can do the same for Minnesota. Wasn't Minnesota the only state that lib weenie George McGovern carried. They deserve him.

Wacko Franken should be the keynote speaker at the dem convention. He is so far out that he actually makes some dems look almost sane.

If he makes a good enough speech, he's a shoo-in to be the Dem nominee in 2012. It doesn't seem to take much more than that...

And reps can't even make good speeches.

They rely on their CIA/admiral fathers to get them through life.

Oh forgot - it doesn't hurt to have a wife and spiritual mentor that hate America. And a condescending attitude towards small-town America and women in general is also a bonus. And don't forget to vote "present" a WHOLE lot. That also scores points with the moonbats.

www.metacafe.com

if you don't like Franken maybe Coulter can represent you.

it doesn't hurt to have a wife and spiritual mentor that hate America.

God, you're stupid.

There is a Muslim congressman: and now a comedian on his way. Oh Minnesota, O Norwegians, very soon you will not be god's frozen people anymore.

He'd be the funniest Senator of the bunch. Witty as hell and right about Rush Limbaugh, who IS a big fat liar

Al Franken has the most irritating voice for a man. I could not listen to him for long periods of time. He's a nice guy but his voice is so whiny sounding and, well, just plain annoying. imho

Oh Rochester ...so much to answer for!

Spud keeds. Spud's a kidder.

Spud thinks Al Franken will make a heckuva fine representative fer all the good peoples of Minnesota.

After all... He's smart, he's funny and, gosh darn it, people like him.

They really do.

Be Well.

/Good eye Minnie! Totally gnarly man!

//Spud may be "talkin' California" but he's "feelin' Minnesota".

That is what is wrong with LIBS, isn't Minnesota where that Bridge collapsed..Alll those DEMS using all that GAX TAX for "road repairs" DEMS are laughable

Just too funny - I love the quality of talent we find in politics. Good luck to the people of Minnesota

so hooray for snl!

If Olbermann can do it Franken can do it. Oh My bad, that was about not paying taxes.

SICK,SICK,SICK,SICK,SICK George Soros wins another.

Franken's radio show wasn't very entertaining, but he's going to be a great senator if he wins this race.

"Franken's radio show wasn't very entertaining, but he's going to be a great senator if he wins this race."

Franken and Ellison...now there's a pair to draw to. When is Minnesota going to start establishing Sharia law?

"Minnesota has become a hotbed of Sharia agitation in the United States. The first Muslim congressman, Keith Ellison, is from Minnesota. It should not be forgotten that he addressed a banquet held by the Council on American Islamic Relations, which is deeply involved with the suit against the airline and passengers, two days before the Flying Imams were bounced from their flight, and met with Omar Shahin, the leader of the Flying Imams, the day before. Now we see Muslim cabdrivers discriminating against passengers and Muslim store employees discriminating against customers, and none of the state's Leftist establishment says a thing. Where they fought alongside Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement to end racial discrimination, apparently religious discrimination is just fine with them.
Apparently the left in Minnesota, as elsewhere, can't see beyond their hatred of George Bush to realize how they themselves will be victimized by their new friends if those friends get the upper hand. Minnesota liberals should stop trying to tolerate the intolerable." Robert Spencer

" When the president during the campaign said he was against nation building, I didn't realize he meant our nation." .....Al Franken.....

.......right on Al........

" But in the right-wing media, they do have a right-wing bias. And they also have an agenda. So their agenda is: we're an adjunct of the Republican Party, and we're going push that agenda every day, and, as you say, brand these stories that help further the right-wing cause. "......Al Franken.....

....the minimum-wage minions of the Republican Party troll this site to denigrate our democracy......

.....he was chosen by the American people and he will be chosen again in November.....so the ReichWing Webstapo should accept the will of the people and quit with the negative smears......

......if you think that any of his ideas are mistaken, then debate the idea......but just calling him names only makes you look like a servant of the anti-democratic darkness threatening this country......

"Franken and Ellison...now there's a pair to draw to. When is Minnesota going to start establishing Sharia law?"

As soon as they are a majority. Isn't that what religionists want, falsely assuming Christians will always have the numbers?

If you want to garner support from the left in Minnesota all you need to do is show an iron incompetence with money. Franken demanded so much money for his services at Air America that the whole enterprise went tits up. A real fiscal genius and now the hero of Liberals in Minnesota.

Not a big surprise.

As long as the Repubs have skirt-chasing, incompetent, Bush toadie Norm Coleman, even an Al Franken is electable. Next to Bunning and Inhofe, Norm Coleman is the dumbest clown in the Senate.

Bill O'Lielys' head just exploded!!!!

Go Al!!!!

How could anyone say Franken is going to be a wonderful Senator when the guy can't pay or won't pay or forgets to pay taxes for employees?

He is a dunderhead.

He isn't very funny either.

Neither are you, my little anklet.

"If you want to garner support from the left in Minnesota all you need to do is show an iron incompetence with money. Franken demanded so much money for his services at Air America that the whole enterprise went tits up. "

There are two sets of signatures on that agreement; Franken's, and the guy with the business plan writing out the paychecks. Why isn't it ever the fault of the business owner who agreed to the foolish salary?

franken in the senate.........what a fuckin joke.

BL2

That isn't at all what she said or the context of her statement. She said 'for the first time in my life I am really proud to be an American'.

Why? Because people were turning out in record numbers to vote.

Wow, that's just HORRIBLE!!

BUT HE ISNT RUNNING AGAIN...........and mccain has a large record of NOT supporting bush on many topics.
BUT he and lyndsy grahem both had their stingers out this morning........

and here too........dont you bastards have a job to get to.........................

Lets See, Al Franken failed as a comedian, a comedy writer, a book writer, and a radio host. Now he wants to fail as a senator. Its just like a liberal to make us suffer watching his sorry fail at everything. Its time to put this horse out to pasture.

Bee Swell

Lets See, Al Franken failed as a comedian, a comedy writer, a book writer, and a radio host

Made millions in comedy and as a comedy writer, bestselling books.

A smarter person would have made up a nickname like "MENSAMEMBER" instead of "CRACKPIPEJUNKIE".

Franken is enjoying the millions he earned as a highly successful comedian and writer.

You?

CRACKHEAD

Is this your idea of 'failure'? No wonder you're so upside down and think Bush hung the moon. After you read this can you please provide us with your amazing career highlights?

"For his work on television, Franken is the recipient of four writing Emmys and a fifth for producing.

Aside from his work on SNL, Franken co-wrote and produced Touchstone Pictures' "When a Man Loves a Woman," with Andy Garcia and Meg Ryan. The movie was domestically and internationally popular, drawing strong reviews and over $100 million worldwide.

Franken is also a prolific and NY-Times best-selling author. "I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough and Doggone It, People Like Me," was released in 1992 and chronicled the life of Stuart Smalley, Al's SNL self-help guru. A New York Times bestseller, it was also nominated for a Grammy in the "best comedy" category.

"Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" was released in 1996 and became an instant classic. Fueled by strong reviews (even the NY Post liked it) and a distaste for the "nutcase right," the book spent five weeks at the #1 spot and eight months on the list. The audio version also won a Grammy in the "best comedy" category. Indeed, Franken is among few political figures who can claim to have won a "Grammy."

Say again?

"and mccain has a large record of NOT supporting bush on many topics."

McCain voted Bush's way:
100% in 2008.
95% in 2007.
90% throughout Bush's Presidency.

Define many topics....

Even if Franken is exactly what the righties on here say he is (and he's not), Minnesotans are sick of having unfunny Bush clown Coleman. None of the righties ever defends incompetent Norm.

franken in the senate.........what a fuckin joke.

Posted by bushlosertwo

Isn't the senate & house already a joke for not impeaching the two yardbirds therein the WH for ruining our economy & reputation as a sane nation in world affairs?

At least the court jester in "King Lear" told the truth!

"franken in the senate.........what a fuckin joke."

Yeah, man. Pretty near as funny as, say, a guy in the Senate who's only claims to fame are being a sleazy lobbyist and appearing on "Law and Order". Or one who made it to the big time as Gopher on "Love Boat". Or one who didn't have many qualifications, other than being the lesser half of a 60's hippie singing duo.

There are two sets of signatures on that agreement; Franken's, and the guy with the business plan writing out the paychecks. Why isn't it ever the fault of the business owner who agreed to the foolish salary?

You can shear a sheep many times, but skin it only once. Franken obviously is only interested in the skinning and I'm not sure that's a great quality for a public servant.

"Franken obviously is only interested in the skinning..."

Everybody thinks the business model will work on the first day. Why does no one ever mention the guy who offered Franken the money?

Al Franken has the most irritating voice for a man.

Well that guy is also an idiot, but at least he's not looking to represent my state in the Senate.

I'm guessing had the station taken off you'd moan that Franken made a bad business deal by being underpaid, and that's why you wouldn't vote for him. Any port in a storm, eh?

Guessed wrong. Had a liberal talk station taken off this would have to be bizarro world, and I'd be a fan of Al and I would vote for him.

Realistically though, I wouldn't give a shit because he wouldn't be running for office if he still had a radio station to work for.

Wacko Franken should be the keynote speaker at the dem convention. He is so far out that he actually makes some dems look almost sane

one of the key speakers is joseph ye(yousef ye now) the former army interogator that was captured with top secret stuff. he made the statement there are no die hard(or something like that) terrorists in gitmo?

"one of the key speakers is joseph ye(yousef ye now) "

A speaker at the Dem convention?!? Link or retraction, please.

Why? Because people were turning out in record numbers to vote.

Wow, that's just HORRIBLE!!

No, BLT and the other rightwingbats have their panties wadded up because DEMOCRATS in record numbers were turning out to vote.

and look...I really dont have to come up with anything else. just think back to when the media loved him and anyone who the media loves is always anti bush............

no 726, that "AINT" right.
we are wadded up because dems have nominated a black man knowing that people will vote for him because of that reason and that reason alone.

AND LOOKY HERE.............more shit rising.....

"we are wadded up because dems have nominated a black man knowing that people will vote for him because of that reason and that reason alone..."

As is usually the case, BLT is 180 degrees out of sync. The amount of pigmentation on O'Bama's skin is the ONLY thing the McBush faction has going for it. And don't think the McBush handlers don't know it. herm

"war plan"

You're joking, right? Try looking up what McCain actually said.

www.minnesotamonitor.com

" Had a liberal talk station taken off this would have to be bizarro world, and I'd be a fan of Al and I would vote for him."

That's odd: are you actually saying you'd vote for him if his radio program were successful, but since it's not, he doesn't get your nod?!?

How is it what they stand for is less important than their ratings? AA fails, and that's why you're voting for Coleman?!?

Note the reference to BIZARRO WORLD (sp?). Everything is backwards there. So yes, in Bizarro world I would vote for Al Franken, and liberal talk radio would be successful. Also I would buy into Anthropogenic Global Warming and wear slippers on my hands.

Read thoroughly, then reply next time.

"Read thoroughly, then reply next time."

My bad. I mistakenly thought BW only referred to AA being successful. Apologies.

It will be enjoyable having Franken in the Senate just for the irritation of righties. They really are threatened by him. Must be his intelligence, they can't stand smart folks.

Speaking of the unimportance of what people stand for, Danforth has throughout the thread battled the Franken detractors on only those points which are completely meaningless as to Franken's value as a politician, i.e. Air America, who the speakers are at the Democrat convention, etc.

If you like Al Franken and think he will be good for America, go ahead and say why. If you're just here to defend him generally because of the letter after his name, that's no more admirable than someone voting based on his performance on the radio.

Let's be real. Dems will stay home in November because Diebold will manipulate the American Idol vote and college kids will be in such an uproar that they will throw up their hands and reach for the closest bong

Al Franken doesn't believe in free speech. He's a perfect candidate for the libs.

"Free speech! As long as I agree with it!"

"Danforth has throughout the thread battled the Franken detractors on only those points which are completely meaningless"

Those were the only points his detractors brought up.

And at this point, I don't know enough about his politics to support him or not. I've never really listened to AA (maybe 10 minutes, total), and don't know where Franken stands specifically, though I'm fairly certain I can guess where on most. But I'll reserve judgement until I'm more familiar.

Norm Coleman, on the other hand, is a douche.

If you like Al Franken and think he will be good for America, go ahead and say why

The only real reason you need for supporting Al Franken is that his victory eliminates one more George Bush conservative. In other words, one less person (Norm Coleman) hellbent on destroying America's middle class through corporate welfare, unending wars of choice and unlimited military spending.

Anyone who is middle class in today's America is an uneducated fool that should be deported to Mexico to work in a GM plant

"Those were the only points his detractors brought up."

They also brought up the fact that he is a tax cheat. True, though, that none of his detractors brought up his actual politics. It does seem odd that you're willing to go to bat for a guy you know nothing about just because he's a democrat.

"The only real reason you need for supporting Al Franken is that his victory eliminates one more George Bush conservative."

And gives us who in return? You're telling us who Al Franken isn't - I get it - he isn't George Bush or Norm Coleman. I know that's enough to convince a Democrat to go out and vote, but how about some substance for people that have brains?

"but how about some substance for people that have brains?"

You say that with a straight face when talking about replacing George Bush and Norm Coleman???

Now, that is funneeeeee!!!!!

"They also brought up the fact that he is a tax cheat."

Depending on how you interpret some tax codes, truck drivers passing through town are tax cheats. True, Franken should have filed the taxes, but with 1099s sent to the taxpayer and the feds but not the state (unless taxes are withheld), it's easier to overlook. But wrong, nonetheless: you're correct about that.

"It does seem odd that you're willing to go to bat for a guy you know nothing about just because he's a democrat."

I went to bat for the fact there are two sets of signatures on every agreement, something I would do for a Republican as well.

" If you're just here to defend him generally because of the letter after his name, that's no more admirable than someone voting based on his performance on the radio."

That is a complete misunderstanding of the American political system. If a voter wants to see an agenda fulfilled then voting for the Party is the only real way to make that happen. An individual's adherance to the platform of the party should be one of the most critical considerations when nominating. People who say "I vote for the person, not the party" massage their own egos but inadvernently hinder their own chances of seeing their own agenda furthered. Individuals don't pass legislation, elect leaders, form majorities.

No Danni- I say that with a straight face when I talk about all Americans who base their votes on substance, not on the fact that someone isn't George Bush. I know this is probably difficult for someone like you to comprehend.

I've debated this with you before Danni. I find the fact that you choose party over substance to be pathetic. Frankly I hope that anyone with that mindset is your age or older, and eventually America will be rid of them (and a lot better off).

"I've debated this with you before Danni. I find the fact that you choose party over substance to be pathetic."

did you find it pathetic when the Republicans threatened to fillibuster or sustain a Bush veto???
See, they are playing the game of "politics" just like I am, hey I didn't write the rules but that is how the system is designed to work. You may find our system "pathetic" but it is what has run this country since it began and it will continue till it is done. It isn't a "moral" decision, it is a practical consideration.

"did you find it pathetic when the Republicans threatened to fillibuster or sustain a Bush veto???"

I'm not a Republican. I don't see the comparison.

Our system may be screwed by the morons you put into office, but that doesn't mean it was designed for them to be there. The free flow of information allows Americans to learn about the views of all candidates and vote for the one whose views most closely represent their own. Whether that is "impractical" due to the large number of stupid people like yourself who vote based on party affiliation makes absolutely no difference to me. You think power is the end-all be-all in American politics. I say that the power to get things done does not equal to the ability to do the right thing.

If you want to see where voting based on party affiliation gets us, look no further than the current US Congress. No progress, just the typical two-party nonsense. No thank you.

I guess the 360,000 people in Illinois who voted for the Green Party gubernatorial candidate were just massaging their own egos. The only people who vote without an ego are idiots like Danni who also vote without a conscience and just look for the letter "D" or "R."

What Danni is saying is that if you aren't in lock step with either party then you don't matter. Which is sort of true. It's what's making this country a spiraling failure, but it's true.

"...if you aren't in lock step with either party then you don't matter."

I disagree. The hard-core base will vote for it's own. (Like baseball: even the worst teams win 30%.) It's the folks in the middle, moderates and independents, who swing the vote. 2004 was influenced, in part, by 9/11. 2008 will be a referendum on Republican rule. The three recent special election losses don't portend well for them.

*** franken in the senate.........what a fuckin joke.

.......that kind of joke ?.......

.......if anyone knows about jokes in office its the Republicans........

........thats why they are getting laughed out of office.......

........yuk yuk..........

Ok, but moderates still have to dilute their views down to a decision for the lesser of two evils. Just because they swing the two party vote doesn't mean the guy who wins was the best overall candidate in their eyes. If moderates and independents had a real choice we would have more than two candidates, but people like Danni drink the kool-aid no matter what the flavor and the two party douche-fest marches on.

"moderates still have to dilute their views down to a decision for the lesser of two evils."

Not true...sometimes we vote third party, sometimes we abstain altogether. Nothing gets my vote but the promise of good government, the hope thereupon, and/or a vote against certain jerks.

It's what's making this country a spiraling failure, but it's true.

The locksteppers that are making this country a failure are the ones who voted at all for the Golden Boy of Conservatism. This country wasn't failing eight years ago. You put a person in charge of an institution that he is hellbent on proving doesn't work and he is going to succeed. Anyone that votes Republican is voting for failure!
One may not believe that Democrats are any better but, their underlying philosophy is not to tear down the institution for which they were elected to govern.

Our system may be screwed by the morons you put into office, but that doesn't mean it was designed for them to be there.
Posted by JOE at 2008-06-09 04:03 PM |

Joe, you are entirely too smart to be suggesting that Norm Coleman is something other than a total dolt. Do you even know the history of this guy?

Put it in Illinois terms. Norm Coleman has the intellect of Rod Blagojevich. Norm Coleman is a moron, and Al Franken -- regardless of his politics -- can't possibly be dumber. Franken's stands are clear. He will support a faster phased withdrawal from Iraq, the middle class tax break at the expense of raising taxes for ARod and Warren Buffet, and some form of universal health care. Norm Coleman will support the use of condoms in whatever skirt he elects to chase. Got the picture?

REALPATRIOT "THEIR PHILOSOPHY IS NOT TO TEAR DOWN THE INSTITUTION" WHAT ABOUT THE 56 DEMS WHO WANT TO SUBMIT A BILL TO MAKE HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE LEGAL?
YOU ASSHOLE DEMS ALMOST RUINED THIS COUNTRY IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES AND WITH FLOP EARS AS PRESIDENT, WHO WILL BE CONTROLLED BY THE TOP DEMS IN CONGRESS I GUESS YOU WILL GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY.

SEABISCUIT Has Frankin paid all his taxes in those states that are after him. If he has been so successful I can't imagin why hasn't paid up.

Ozzie,

Franken could defraud the government and still be 3 steps ahead of Coleman. Care to enlighten us with the many accomplishments of Norm Coleman?

This is a sitcom. Right?

This is a sitcom. Right?

Nope.

Reagan got elected twice.
