Like the patriot Missile, it doesn't matter if it works or not. We have to replace everything we blow up or eventually leave in Iraq. That's the beauty of neverending war.

The Patriot missile system succeeded in only one instance. All others seemed to have centered on the no longer useful missile body. They missed the war head in all but the one very dramatic display of explosive force in the air.

To spend an excessive amount of money on the least useful ballistic missile made is not very smart. It is something GWB would do.

I hope this missile truly works - especially when we DON'T know when and where it's target is fired from.

A friend of mine was a civilian engineer on the island of Kwajalein in the Pacific. He said they missed 90% of the time even when they knew exactly when and what trajectory the missile fired from Edwards AFB was on.

Hopefully, this missile is an improvement that really works.

The maximum range of the scud won't help any Arabe or for the matter any terrorist. Even with the best modifications, 1000 miles is still a long range they can't go. Oh, and by the way, the guidance system is run more like an old muzzle loader. Windage and elevation. Once fired it is pretty much going were it is aimed. That being "That way, over there".

As I posted above it's easier to shoot down a missile when you know when the target is fired, where it's headed, and are prepared at that second to fire the interceptor missile.

It would be great if they can eventually perfect this technology, but I think we're a long way from there based on my friend's 10 years on Kwadjalein working on this very technology. He said the 'hits' they scored were few even when they knew the 10th of a second when the target was fired from Edwards AFB towards the Pacific.

He described it as two bullets hitting each other from opposite directions.

Based on my own personal observations from 30 years ago, we've been trying to achieve this from at least that point in time with very mixed results.
