*Maybe just a bunch of shitty fearful people in this part of Ct*
Ummm, No!
I live in the *burbs* outside Hartford. Less than a ten minute drive from where this tragic incident occurred. For the most part, I've lived in Ct all my adult life.
The area of the city in which this happened is almost entirely Hispanic. For more than forty years this area has been plagued by drugs, gangs and general no good. Gangs of kids on un-registed motorcycles and atv's routinely speed down the sidewalks and streets, undaunted by the police and ignored by the community. I rest the blame squarely on the occupants of that specific area. If this had happened less than a mile away, someone would have come to the man's aid in an instant.
Not to turn this thread into a political rant, here are a few facts about my beloved Hartford.
The Democratic party has had a death grip on Hartford for an eternity. Our *mayor* is an ex gang member...nice huh? From the lowly alderman to the corrupt school board members, they're all Dems(and have been for almost 40 years).
They complain about how the surrounding *burb* schools have all the advantages, yet Hartford out spends virtually the entire country on per capita spending per student. The school board loves to point the stink finger at everyone for the blame, but themselves. The moron's in Hartford keep electing them, with the same useless promise of change, etc...
Figured they'd learn after SO many years of failed policy.
One local Hartford high school had actually lost its accreditation .
All the teachers unions decry lack of funding, and how un-fair it is to the *minority* children in the city...blah, blah, blah.Yet they're(the teachers union is) always first at the city *trough* to be fed...
In spite of it's short comings, they're are many of us that love and support our city anyway we can. I've seen it degrade over the years...at one point it seemed to be on the rebound(many parts of the city are). Now, this incident, quite frankly makes me ill. However, considering it happened on Park street, doesn't really surprise me.
Flame on!
