RFK's election in 1968 would have brought great and much needed change to America. He truly cared about every American, rich and poor alike. Obama reminds me a lot of RFK. Just his nomination has inspired millions of school aged kids. His election will reshape our image in the world back to a positive. The reactions so far from around the world regarding his nomination have been extremely positive.

For those of us who voted for RFK, this Country has not been the same since that awful night. God there was no chance Nixon would have won that election of 1968. The Country has maybe another opportunity to put itself in the right track, President Obama the Legacy lives......

Sirhan was born in Jerusalem to Christian Palestinian parents and was raised in the Maronite Church. In his adult life however, he made several religious conversions, joining Baptist and Seventh-day Adventist churches, and dabbled in the occult. His family, which moved to the United States when Sirhan was 12, briefly lived in New York, and soon moved to California. He attended John Muir High School and Pasadena City College in Pasadena, California and was employed as a stable boy in 1965 at the Santa Anita Race Track in Arcadia, California. Killed by a young muslim. Posted by Sniper Wrong. As usual. What's it like being an asshole?

Chances are, RFK was not killed by Sirhan. Sirhan was in front of Kennedy--Kennedy was shot point-blank from behind. Sirhan was probably brainwashed and used as a decoy. Most assassinations are done out of passion for a cause, and the perpetrators are proud of their accomplishment. Proud to sacrifice their lives for a cause. Not Sirhan. He says he doesn't remember. I believe him.

I remember the day quite well, even though it was 40 years ago. It was beyond sad, seeing all the good guys being picked off, and with them, our dreams. I'll never believe that John's, Martin's and Bobby's deaths were three separate unrelated incidents. Paul Wellstone's too.

Sirhan had long dealt with anger over Israel's creation in 1948, during which many Palestinians fled or were driven out. Sirhan supposedly believed he was deliberately betrayed by Kennedy's support for Israel in the June 1967 Six-Day War, which had begun exactly one year before the assassination. This is not the way a christian would view RFK. Call him what you want to but the facts are very clear.

Wow so much fodder here.... "Obama reminds me a lot of RFK." by Americanunity Yeah. The Hildebeast thinks so too. She is hoping they have a lot in common. "Lincoln would've hated you." by goatman Goat, you wouldn't have been fond of him either. After all, he was a Republican who started a war with someone that did not attack the United States and posed no military threat to the United States to impose a way of life upon them, ultimately occupying the defeated enemy for 100 years. Then Hanoverfist reminds us that today is the anniversary of D-Day. A day when a Democrat president PRAYED on the radio. He then committed US forces to attack a country that had not attacked us and lost over 4,000 troops IN THE FIRST DAY! (What an example of incompetence!) Where were today's democrats then? They would have probably impeached him for the prayer and berated him for the unacceptable loss of life. They would have demanded an immediate withdrawal / surrender. My how things have changed.

Larry, I concede that Japan attacked the US...when did Germany do it? As far as the War Between the States goes, I believe your grasp of history is a little loose. The South left the Union and formed it's own nation before demanding the US withdrawal its forces from their soil and their harbors. When the US refused, the shooting started. By your logic, What Bush should have done to avoid the allegation of "illegal war" was placed American military so close to Iraq as to provoke an attack, refuse to remove them and let Iraq hit us first. Then we could have conducted the war as a "defensive" war.

SanAntonio No, I have never heard of "Fort Sumpter". I have heard of Ft. Sumter that was attacked on April 12, 1861 in an attempt to eject a foreign hostile power from the harbor of an Independent country that was formed on December 20, 1860. I believe that First Mananas took place in Virginia...on Southern Territory. Wanna continue this conversation? Larry, Our ships and vessels...Oh, you mean the ones that were shipping contraband to our friends the Brits, contrary to international law, thus making them legitimate targets? Are those the ships you are talking about? Germany declared war on us and that makes it OK? So by your logic, since "Islamists" declared war in the United States on November 4, 1979, any war against them is justified? Since Iraq is an Islamists nation, does that justify our invasion? In the alternative, since the Islamist that declared Jihad on the United States are in Iran, can we attack Iran? How far are you willing to go with this? mypetjawa.mu.nu

Thank you Mr. Spell Check. "...an Independent country that was formed on December 20, 1860." It was actually Feb. 8, 1861. Oh, and we are talking about a de facto "independent country", not a de jure one since no other country ever formally recognized their independence.

SanAntonio, South Carlina left the Union on December 20, 1860. Either way, Ft. Sumter was occupied occupied by federal forces. Those forces were ordered to leave and refused. Incidentally, what was required to be independent in 1860? Why don't you cite a little legal authority for that. Larry, Fine, Shouldn't have attacked Iraq. But may I garner that you would still be all in favor of an attack on the other Islamist nations since the islamists have declared war on us? Incidentally, See that you backed away from the attacking of shipping as a basis for war....wanna concede you are wrong...again.... Jomama, "And you southern fucks will lose again." yeah. If your standard is "might makes right". However, if we actually did fight the war today, I am confident that the Democrats would determine that withdrawal and surrender would be the appropriate course of action...especially if faced with losses comparable to First Manassas.... "Yankee Doodle wheeled about and scampered off at full run' such a race was never seen as that one run at Bull Run!"

"South Carlina left the Union on December 20, 1860." Yes I know, but you said the Confederacy was formed then. It was not. "Ft. Sumter was occupied occupied by federal forces. Those forces were ordered to leave and refused." By who's authority? "Incidentally, what was required to be independent in 1860?" There was no legal precedent either way at the time. The main criteria of whether or not you were an independent country seems to have been whether or not anyone recognized you as such. Hence the de facto vs. de jure issue.
Just another quick question... would you consider it justifiable for Cuba to order the US out of Guantanamo and then attack it for noncompliance?
Posted by SanAntonioRogue at 2008-06-06 11:46 AM | Reply | Flag: Flag: (Choose)FunnyNewsworthyOffensiveAbusive
Sanantonio, Primary difference, there is a treaty between the Government of the United States and the government of Cuba to lease that base for a fixed period of time. There was no such agreement between the government of the United States and the State of South Carolina. Larry - Google "Neutrality Act". It wasn't international law...it was a law passed by Congress. The international part of the deal is if the ship has military material, it is a military target i.e. it is no longer civilian in nature.
Posted by A_Citizen at 2008-06-06 12:20 PM | Reply | Flag: Flag: (Choose)FunnyNewsworthyOffensiveAbusive
"Primary difference, there is a treaty between the Government of the United States and the government of Cuba to lease that base for a fixed period of time." Not exactly correct. The current government of Cuba does not recognize the lease as valid. Considering that Cuba was forced to include the lease in their constitution in 1901 under threat of force from occupying US troops, and then forced to reaffirm it in 1934 when Roosevelt sent a fleet of warships, one must question the legal basis for our being there.
Posted by SanAntonioRogue at 2008-06-06 12:42 PM | Reply | Flag: Flag: (Choose)FunnyNewsworthyOffensiveAbusive
SanAntonio, There is no consistency with history. The same bargaining technique was used with the Indians - and I doubt that any of us realistically question the right to own property in the United States on that basis. Legal theory in a vacuum: The lease may be void as a result of duress. In which case, we would need to leave. However, since I doubt the Feds have any intention of restoring Southern independence, repaying the people of the South that lost property monies owed as a result of the taking of that property under the 5th Amendment of the US Constitution, or returning the land to the Indians, I will not jump up and down and demand the US leave Cuba.
