Senator Hillary Clinton plans to formally endorse Barack Obama on Saturday at a Washington event with her supporters, her campaign said last night, and will call on Democrats to unite behind their presumptive presidential nominee. "Senator Clinton will be hosting an event in Washington, D.C., to thank her supporters and express her support for Senator Obama and party unity," her campaign said in a statement last night. "This event will be held on Saturday to accommodate more of Senator Clinton's supporters who want to attend."

I wonder if its significant that she is waiting until the anniversary of D-Day?

PS) the spineless superdelegates went in a veritable tsunami to Obama today, 28 of them.

Goat - sometimes I never know if you are kidding or if you are serious. I like that about you. :)

PS) I have been meaning to ask you, do you have a good fresh salsa recipe? I am growing my own maters, onions, green peppers, tomatillos, cilantro and I would really like to make some home grown salsa (I do not like it hot so I would not put the jalapenos in it). Do you cook it? Or do you just mush up all the ingredients and enjoy (sorry for my ignorance).

ahem, cough, ahem...

On CNN and other media sources today they announced -
- listen up now -- "Hillary will suspend her campaign this coming Friday."

I give below the meaning of the word "suspend" from the Miriam-Webster dictionary.
Interpret the word "suspend" anyway you wish.

Main Entry: suspend

Pronunciation: s'-spend
Function: verb

Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French suspendre, from Latin suspendere,
from sub-, sus- up + pendere to cause to hang, weigh. Date: 14th century

transitive verb

1: to debar temporarily especially from a privilege, office, or function

2 a: to cause to stop temporarily
b: to set aside or make temporarily inoperative

3: to defer to a later time on specified conditions

4: to hold in an undetermined or undecided state awaiting further information

IMHO -- Hillary is still in cruise control. She's not going anywhere.

PS) I have been meaning to ask you, do you have a good fresh salsa recipe?

Yes. The secret to a good salsa is to fire roast the chilis.

I use two poblanos, three jalapenos, and if you want it extra spicy, a couple of serranos. Using a butane torch (you can get them at Home Depot for $6) quickly blister and char the outside of the chilis. Immediately plunge into ice cold water. This will give them a nice flavor without making the chilis mushy.

Chop them up and add fresh summer tomatoes, green onion, and lots of cilantro. Squeeze the juice of one or two key limes (must be key limes!) over all and toss.

Since you do not like it spicy, use only the poblanos. Nice smoky flavor but not too spicy. I would not use bell peppers.

Hang on and next post will be another recipe.

This is excellent with smoked pork or grilled fish. Does not have to be spicy at all. If you don't like it spicy, I would at least add one serrano or half of a jalapeno

Mango salsa

Chop up three ripe mangos. Add chopped red bell pepper, chopped serrano or jalapeno, chopped red onion and chopped cilantro. juice of one or two key limes againn. Also good with white corn chips.

Thanks Goat, I will remember that when the approximately 20lbs of maters I have out there right now ripen :)

Nifty site there LB on the delegates.

Yummmm for mango salsa. That is the best--on everything!

BTW, Brit: That recipe is actually known as a pico de gallo here in Texas. Salsa literally translated is sauce or gravy.

Hope you enjoy it! Remember, the key is in the roasting of the peppers. Do it quickly and plunge in water. You don't want them mushy. Some people have tried to do it over a gas burner, but even that isn't hot enough. Gotta have the torch. With it, you can make creme brulee for dessert. That's what Julia Childs used -- a hardware store bought propane torch.

Goat - that mango salsa sounds good. So far my experience with mangos has been limited to mango chutney which I always eat with curry (yum),

Hillary will suspend--that means she is stopping the campaign--but still able to collect money to pay off debt.

She needs to collect 20 million of her own money before the convention. If she doesn't, the rules say it is not recoverable except for 250k. Big hit.

That is part of why she is being so reluctant to quit--besides that she is a Clinton.

One she needs the 20 million back. She wants help getting it back from Obama and his help. I don't know if he writes her a check--but I think they do send emails to donors to put some money in the hat.

Two--she likely wants serious consideration for the VP slot. This continues her own credibility in the Party and her voters.

She is touting this out there in the news, knowing that Obama can't pick her and she really doesn't want the job.

She doesn't want the job because they are likely of the opinion that Obama can't win the general.

If she is on his ticket--this looks bad for her when he loses. It would be her loss too.

But--If she is passed over for VP--and he loses in November-- she would be the rocket in 2012 and Obama would be out.

PS) question on the pico de gallo thing, I am assuming that is a "fresh" salsa type of thing, what do I do if I want to make the salsa and keep it in the fridge for a while? Do I cook it (for instance the store bought salsa that I buy appears to be cooked at least the tomatos).

Murphy-

I found your analysis to be very interesting. Explains a lot and makes sense. Your reasoning plus a $20 million payoff to Hillary to "officially" pull out of the campaign all adds up.

mango chutney which I always eat with curry (yum),

Ah, yes. Major Grey's? Love curry.

No! Do not cook, except for the roasting of the chilis. It will keep for a while in the fridge because the acid in the tomatoes and lime keep the pH low enough to inhibit bacterial growth. The only issue I see is that the green onions may get a little weird. Not as in dangerous weird, but a weird texture. If you make extra, I would add the onions just before serving. Maybe do the same with the cilantro.

Store bought salsa is indeed cooked during the canning process. That's why it is not near as good as homemade.

FF "...can't win..." lol

Goat - yes Major Grey's, if I can't get that, (which I can at Fresh Market right now) I use Branston Pickle, but it is a poor substitute. (however Branston is asskicking on a cheese sandwich :))

Damn! She should be doing this next Friday, the 13th.

I heard on the radio people calling in saying they should give Hillary time to compose herself to concede. That it is wrong to compel her to come forward so soon.

When people lose the election for President, has any candidate ever conceded the election a week later or days later? I mean, if they aren't looking for recounts, isn't the concession speech usually within 24 hours?

they should give Hillary time to compose herself

Because she is special, and BTW she also passed the Commander in Chief Test so she's probably consulting with her generals right now.

End the Drama.

Petrous--

They usually concede the same night.

Now this whole delay thing could be connected to Gore.

He took 34 days to concede--;o)

And Kerry conceded the next day after deciding that a recount of OH would not erase 70,000 votes.

So she is in the middle at 36 hours--lol

The problem is with the Dem primary process and having 800 people getting to vote twice--once in their own state primary and another as a Super Delegate.

"They could change their minds".

She doing it on Friday the 40th anniversary of the RFK assasination.

And that, as they say, is that.

So, she stands up in front of the Jewish lobby and assures them that Barack will be a friend to Israel, something they believe from her, while Obama tells us that, "I am going to need Bill Clinton", in the fall campaign.

Meanwhile, his supporters here still whine about how terrible the Clinton's are.

Goat, D-day was June 6th, not 7th

Yes. The secret to a good salsa is to fire roast the chilis.

Hell yes! Roasting adds a depth to the flavor which is incredible. I learned this recently myself.

Thank you, Emeril Goatman...BAM!

Goat,

Sounds like a good receip for Pico. Salsa is in liguid form, Pico is chunky.

damn fingers

Salsa is more of a liquid and Pico is chinky.

The lemon will help keep your pico or salso fresh for a least 1 week, possably 2.

.....she would be the rocket in 2012 and Obama would be out.

c'mon, that's how she screwed up this election! She was supposed to be the rocket this year and then someone else (Obama) outsmarted her and snatched it away. In 2012, there will be someone else that will do the saame because she still thinks she is entitled and will start off that way. Plus, in 2012 even the die-hard Clintonistas will be sick and tired of this no-class power couple.

good advice , corky. Take it!

Corky can contribute sour grapes... and that's about it.

And our GOP acquaintance Murphy says that Clinton would be a rocket in '12 ?

My best guess is that humiliating and shoving the Clinton's into nothing land would serve the Democratic party and the nation very, very well.

Like we say in the mean streets of Chicago's West Side (the best side) Bye Bye, Bitoch!

She's doing the right thing, Corky. Now dry those tears.

Well, you can't mention whiners without Montebore showing up.

SHE SHOULD SPLIT FROM THE PARTY, RUN AS AN INDEPENDENT AND KEEP MOVE ON.....

Brilliant!

"Obama makes no bones about his plans to go on a tax rampage. Not only would he increase the capital-gains tax rate from 15 percent to as much as 28 percent, he wants to allow the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts to expire in 2010, which effectively raises taxes on Americans by tens of billions of dollars."

"He also wants to do away with the $102,000 FICA payroll tax cap, which means anyone making over $102,000 would pay an additional 7 percent in taxes on earned income."

Hold on to your wallets - here comes Obama.

You people that support him are just so stupid.

Clinton throws in the towel? I will believe it when I see it. She is not conceding she is suspending her campaign...leaving her options open! And not today...maybe Saturday... we will see...

Lets just hope Clinton really throws in the towel and not the kitchen sink.

"Hold on to your wallets - here comes Obama.

Well, given that the current $102,000 FICA cap is about tens years of your salary, I don't think you ahve anything to worry about.

Montecore - want to bet?

but of course that was not the line of the post.

Like most, you see the facts and you really don't like them because they run against what you want to believe...but the facts are that he is a Kenyan that has been influenced to hate the west and the wealthy and he is for distribution of wealth.

Basically that is very left socialism that has always resulted in a collapes of an economy. There is no country in history that has prospered under socialism. When people no longer see incentive to work..they stop working.

Don't think the Kenyan comment is true - Look it up. Read his book. Don't think he thinks this way? Look at the theme of his church. Look at his brother who is a Moslum extremist. His nephew is named Fidel - I wonder after who?

Obama makes no bones about his plans to go on a tax rampage. blah blah blah

well, someone's gotta pay for the Republican credit card bills (aka drunken sailor debt) sometime and somehow. How do you propose it be done? Borrow some more greenbacks from China?

Only braindead people can possibly still buy into the Republican lies about taxes. Get a clue, buy one, or borrow one, but, just please get one, soon, ok?

Basically that is very left socialism that has always resulted in a collapes of an economy.

as opposed to the six short years of right-wing single party rule we all just experienced and which really worked wonders for the nation...

goodnight

He hates himself? (You must realize he has a few bucks, right?)

Clinton throws in the towel--

Obama better duck!

Wonder if it is the same towel they took out of that Japanese guy??
