A team of rowers from the United Kingdom set out from New York's Hudson River Monday morning to try to cross the Atlantic Ocean, a trip that's expected to take 55 days. The web site charting their progress places them 87 miles into the trip with just 3,175 to go.

Wow, good luck that's a long haul! Hope a hurricane doesn't interrupt their crossing.

I thought they were going to be in one of those ancient warships with the two tiers of rowers chained to their seats and the guys walking back and forth beating the ones who slack off.

This is just silly.

If they do it they should do it on their own. Pack their own food and medicine. Keep it real!

Viking impersonators would have been cool -- especially with a reconstructed Viking longship.

These guys look like a team from Rutgers getting ready to row on the Raritan River. Oh well, anytime you can manage to break a record like rowing across the Atlantic, it's still impressive.

A sight I've seen many times.

I guess you weren't always from Cali?

"They hope to break a record of 55 days and 13 hours, set by two Norwegian-Americans in 1896."

It would almost be a shame to see a record that old fall.

I lived in Edison, NJ for three years awhile back.
Used to see the teams out practicing their rowing on the Raritan. Cool to watch.

They look NOTHING like a college rowing team. Nor does the boat have any resemblance to their craft.

What these guys are attempting sounds impossible. That's over 60 miles a day, for 55 days. No rest for the weary!!

At least they didn't get stiffed with a $15 surcharge.

If they were real men, the would have started in England and rowed to the US.

Pussies.

Sully? or Scully?

Half way across, one of them will be tossed overboard for trying to start "row, row, your boat" for the 7,345th time.
