Few things require as much courage as being wide awake and aware, lying perfectly still for hours, while surgeons methodically slice out bits of your brain. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy did just that, in an unusual operation Monday at Duke University Medical Center to treat his cancerous brain tumor.

More than I could say about Dubya. Yeah I went with Dubya at the very first post. Sue Me.

One of my friends works at Duke in a lab, and suddenly became privy to some top secret medical information about Ted Kennedy. I'm not gonna post exactly what, but it's an interesting lil tidbit.

Must not be too topsecret or else Your friend doesn't have any ethics. If it's not complete Bullshit

GWB could remain wide awake too while they rummage seeking a brain.

If it's not complete Bullshit

I doubt it is. It's a relatively trivial, but interesting piece of info.

They could transplant a dead brain cell from a retarded amoeba-and it would quadruple dip-shitz IQ

It's not that uncommon to keep the patient awake during certain types of brain surgery.
The surgeons often have to have am actual response from the patient while operating.

Here's why:

To avoid cutting through vital areas controlling speech, doctors often return the patient to consciousness and stimulate tissue in the planned surgical path with a probe.

"We'll have them do language tests like hold up pictures, name objects, repeat words, hold a conversation," Ewend explained.

After that, the patient is usually put back under while the tumor is cut out, which takes about three to four hours....

Tease.

I just decided. I don't want to get the kind of brain cancer Ted is having to endure. Quite courageous on his part I'd have to say. More than most of us could muster probably. Looks like he is confronting the illness as strongly as if it were Republicans. Let's hope we defeat both the Republicans and his illness this year. That would be truely a happy November.

I thought Larry meant that Lil Bush was awake during his colonoscopy. When you want to operate an a braing tumor, you gots to go where his brain is.

I don't want any kind of cancer.

A friend's cousin's father's uncle who works next to a guy that heard about a piece of info that his sister's dermatologist's gynecologist related about Ann Coulter is quite interesting but I am not going to reveal it because it is bullshit.

My understanding is that it's standard procedure for patients to be awake during brain surgery for reasons posted by CalifChris. The brain itself cannot sense pain so a general anesthetic is not needed; the skull is opened under a local.

DC,
Absolutely true.

That would be, He has been a hell of a piss poor senator.

I don'tknow about Bobbie but Jack was a conservative and he liked good looking women, not "just anything" like Bill went for.

"Jack was a conservative"

Must be why Barry Goldwater wanted to run against him and the conservatives of that day villified him. Too bad they didn't realize they were all just peas in a pod. Of course, I'm doubtful even Barry Goldwater would want anything to do with the misanthropic crew who describe themselves as "conservatives" today.

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable."

Yeah, sounds like a real Burkian.

I'd ask what The Snipe expects from a senator. But I'm afraid he'll tell us. herm

If your friend accessed the info on-line, you just got him fird...assuming anyone at Duke reads this message board. Medical systems contain HEAVY audit trails of who accesses every screen and every record.

That being said: DO TELL! DO TELL! What is it? I'm betting his chart has b>AIDS PRECAUTION on it? Rampant syph? Liver looks like swiss cheese? Chappaquidick water in his lungs? C'mon... spill it!

Larry Craig.

Man.... the Kennedy family needs all of this happening to the sons like they needed a hole in the head.

If poor taste was a blocker for posting here, this place would be essentially empty.

I doubt anyone would notice your absence.

Quite courageous on his part I'd have to say.

Courage? Is lying flat on your back and accepting the best health care possible, which is conveniently provided free of charge, courage?

Wow.

I guess that makes Dick Cheney a manly man.

You win an internet.

Huh..they took out part of his brain and he still acts the same....guess he didn't use it much.

I guess you are way too young to remember Jack.

What did he do to taxes? He cut them.

What did he do to the Military? He build it up.

What did he do with the Russians? He stoodup to them.

Now the hard one. What did he do in Viet Nam????

You f*****g libs would have nothing to do with him today if he were running for president.

By the way, Goldwater ran against Johnson!!!! I thought you were sooooo smart but you have proved me wrong again.

should the socialists win the whiteyhouse and institute Fed healthcare, Ted would be exempt and still have the top specialists in the world to work on his bulbish, alchie head while the rest of us peasants are relegated to state-sponsored mediocre care.

I'm sure the fifth of scotch just prior to the operation helped.

At least this time, he won't be capable of crossing the bridge.....

Wow. A joke echo from 1993.

Wow. A joke echo from 1993.

Take my wife, please.

From the '30s and still funny.

Hay doc, you still there? Seems to me all you do is make ine smart-ass remark and then go.

Probably one of the few times he's been awake in who knows how long ...

... but was he sober? Inquiring minds want to know.

Oh yeah I forgot to tell Ness that that "interesting lil tidbit" about a smorgasbord of STD's isn't news.

No I'm not the source, I'm originally from Massachusetts and it's common knowledge in the Bay State.

he was awake huh?

yeah I wonder if mary jo was awake as the rushing water filled the car up as her lungs filled with water while this murdering bastard ran home to mommy and her lawyers?

You've got more blood on your hands than Ted. You voted for Bush--twice. You have the blood of thousand of American lives and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives on your hands. You shouldn't point your blood dripping fingers at Ted--your hypocrisy only makes it worse.

I DIDN'T REALIZE YOU REALY WANTED AN ANSWER. He should work towards;

1. Smaller government
2. Get rid of a bunch of existing laws
3. Cut government spending
4. Quit trying to manage everyone's life
5. Get term limits for congress and get rid of most of their benifits.

How does that square with you libs. You should go for that.

"How does that square with you libs."

Well, (1), the Bush administration increased the size of government more than any Democrat's wet dream, and a lot more than Clinton.
(2), A bunch of new laws were added under the Bush administration
(3), Government spending under Bush was the largest known to man since the dawn of time (and the second-largest, and the third-largest...)
(4), Actions speak, from Terri Schaivo to gay-marriage amendments to medical marijuana
(5), Newtie and the Gang campaigned on term limits with the Contract with America, but they abandoned it when they were the ones in power. It was but one, of the 0-for-8 performance of the CWA.

And speaking of zeroes, your party is 0-for-5 in what you claim to be important. Is that good enough for you?

"1. Smaller government.'

How small? Would the ideal then be NO government?

"2. Get rid of a bunch of existing laws."

You'll have to be more specific than THAT, Snipe. Parking limits?

"3. Cut government spending."

We all favor that. But for the military, not for the poor.

"4. Quit trying to manage everyone's life."

Especially in the realm of reproductive rights and who weds whom.

"5. Term limits for congress and get rid of most of their benifits."

Benefits. And term limits are essentially a Republican scam to oust the CAPABLE legislators. We have elections for the other guys. Any questions? herm
