A massive fire raged on a back lot at Universal Studios on Sunday, devouring several movie sets, including mock New York and New England streets. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Tragic.

Angrydad-
What are you angry about?

What AngryDad said. RIP

Larry Mohr

Detroyed the King Kong ride, too.

Who died?

It's unfortunate, but it ain't a fucking tragedy. A tragedy would be a family who comes home to their house ablaze with everything the own, save the clothes on their backs, inside.

That's a tragedy.

Axiom never grew up on Television. THAT is obvious.

I was being facetious.

I was being facetious.

Indeed if there is no Blood involved and the history lost is both transient and trivial the word 'tragic' doesn't apply.

OMG what a loss to humanity. This should be in the front page of every paper!

"Angrydad-

Idiotic public officials and greedy corporate criminals...just for starters...

And quite beneficial.

TV rots your brain. It is a tool used as a means of control of the populace. TV networks beam stupidity right into your head, and you sit there gleefully dumbfounded.

If there's a movie I want to see, I'll go rent it or buy it. Other than that, I've gone 6 years without owning a television.

I'll stick to my archaic books and the Internet as sources for information. There's little subliminal advertising trying to convince me to buy the next big shiny piece of shit Chinese doo-dad there.

Boy someone has been speaking to My Dead Grandparents because they have said the exact same thing. Shakes head

yeah I see your point every time I see one of those reality bullshit shows or many of the shows that SAY they are comedies...but there is some good stuff, on cable usually.....history channel, discovery channel and some on regular stations but you have to look for it. so I always wonder what some people miss when they dont see SOME of those.
and I think more importantly, you just CANT use it as a babysitter....

I could look out the door and all afternoon there was a big ol' layer of white haze (white shows up when the fire has been put out otherwise it's black smoke) covering that whole end of the San Fernando Valley where the studios are located -- about a 15 minute drive on the freeway. Heard the fire started on a couple of the lots where they were in production.

Oh I know about the discovery and history channels. There's quite a few educational channels.

The problem is that I'm not going to pay 39 bucks a month to buy something that I only use 1% of. If you give me 98 channels of bullshit and 2 channels that I'm actually going to watch, the benefit doesn't out-weigh the cost. The cable companies I have dealt with are not willing to let you pick and choose which channels you wish to purchase.

In the end, they're counting on your flipping through the channels like an automaton. If you're vegged out, sitting on the couch eating chips getting fat, you're also getting lazy. Lazy people are easy to manipulate.

Indeed.

make up your mind, do you like hollywood movies or not?

so you watch the movie on what?

I'll answer your question with one of my own.

Do you telepathically connect to the internet? Do you have a cybernetic link to the matrix?

Or do you use a computer that has a device in it called "DVD-ROM"?

It is entirely possible that your computer is so antiquated that it doesn't have one of these new-fangled-fancy gadgets, though.

ok fair enough

just seemed an odd transposition

You should see the looks I get from people when I tell them I don't own a television.

They can't imagine going a day without plopping down, having a beer and watching their favorite show. It doesn't really dawn on people that there are other methods of getting information and entertainment because the, aptly named, idiot box has done the work for us for a long time.

I apologize for being a bit snarky about it, but usually when people hear that I don't have a television, and that I might watch 10 hours of TV in a year, they don't believe me.
