Bob Herbert: I guess it's official now since we have a Bush administration insider, Scott McClellan, telling us that the war in Iraq was a monumental strategic blunder, and that it was sold cynically and deceitfully to a craven Congress and to a public still traumatized by the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Thank God My Hands Are Squeaky Clean. Can't Say That About The Bushites.

McClellan is telling the truth.
However, if he was a real man, he would have resigned from his position and told the truth while he was still with the Administration. Same way with Powell. Tell-all books written afterwards aren't worth spit. Courage shown at the time it was needed is what counts.

"Same way with Powell."

Just after Powell's speech at the UN I first met someone about whom I can't talk here:
"There goes the last shred of credibility."

Anyone who's been paying attention ....

"However, if he was a real man"

With my ex's cousin Carole Four-names for a momma?

Bushlover voted for that loon.

I voted for Kinky.

Which Democratic presidential candidate swallowed the Bush Crime Family's bullshit? Oh, that would be the slut.

Which Democratic presidential candidate swallowed the Bush Crime Family's bullshit? Oh, that would be the slut.

Which 100% flip-flopping politician is making a name for himself as anti-Iraq war yet has voted for its continuation on 14+ occassions? Oh yeah - that would be the racist dude. Which is worse - saying that you are 100% against the war and then voting for it to continue or saying that you were duped into voting for it in the first place by a lying administration? You have dishonest vs. stupid...my what a choice the dems face...

Hey Jacque_Strap, by all means vote for McBombIran...

It's not about the message, it's about the messenger. PR 101 for liars when their lies catch up with them.

Somebody tell me why we can not get impeachment hearings at least started against Bush and Company?

I'd wager a guess and say Nancy Pelosi is making bank off of this war is the reason no Impeachment procedings have been started against Dubya and Dick. Just a gut feeling I have. NOTHING more.

Larry

Feinstein is making millions off this war

"Bush is a child of privilege, indifferent to human suffering, energized by a deep cruel streak, dangerously affected by religious delusions, contemptuous of ideas and intellectuals, disdainful of international law, still at large and dangerous as he plans an unjustifiable assault on Iran. Instead of depicting the Iraq War as an act of criminal aggression McClellan does the administration a big favor by merely terming it a "strategic blunder.""

WHERE ARE BUSHLOVERS.....

Out stocking up on Lava Handsoap so they can attempt to wash all of that blood that drips contnuosly off of their filthy hands. THATS where.

Funny how on Sundays, when right wing talking points are not so easily available, the number of right wing posts seem to drop dramatically on threads like this.

Meet the New Dictator - Same as the old Dictator!

The scariest part of the whole "Iraq War Fiasco" is that the majority of Americans, who were against this war from the very start, had absolutely no power whatsoever,in stopping the Bush Regime from instigating and perpetrating this war.

The American public is obviously completely cut off from the decision making in Washington and so the US Constitution now really is "just a god damn piece of paper" as Dubya wryly declared.

Also nothing at all has changed,as none of the 2008 presidential candidates are promising the U.S.public with any kind of real accountability let alone any renewed respect for the US Constitution. So whats the 2008 election all about? Help elect a new dictator thats the same as the old dictator?

Poor Scotty--he stabs everyone in the back and the left will eat him up--just like folks here on the DR.

The premise of his book is that Washington has a problem with running a campaign --always. It's broke and will never change.

Then he forgets that the world thought Saddam had WMD's.

The resolution passed 77-23 or some such.

Was it handled badly--mismanaged after the fall of Saddam--yeah.

But Scotty doesn't tell us anything that folks don't already believe who hate Bush.

The difference is that Scotty is a Judas..

The difference is that Scotty is a Judas..Murphy

Murphy, Judas betrayed Jesus...not exactly in the same ballpark as Bush. I think a more fitting example would have been if Judas betrayed Satan.

I doubt you would mind that as much.

scotty exists. if judas ever did exist he was doing the work god set him to. judas should be a saint.scotty should just be embarassed and never heard from again (even before the book).

Is life so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of shackles and slavery? If not... if rather some things, some freedoms, are worth fighting and in fact dying for, where does one draw the line?

Should Moses have abandoned the children of Israel to suffer under the pharaohs, should the patriots of Concord thrown down their rifles having refused to fire the shot heard 'round the world, did the brave young men of the Greatest Generation who lost their lives to stop the advance of Hitler and quash Nazism die in vain? Where would the world be today if not for the courage of a DEMOCRAT president to not only kick the sh*t out of the JAPs who bombed Pearl Harbor, but to continue the broader fight in Europe and Africa?

How about the brave young men martyred in Vietnam? Did they die in vain? Had a DEMOCRAT president not said to the world, "We're willing to sacrifice 38,000 innocent American lives in a war many short-sighted naysayers will consider us to have lost in order to stop the spread of communism," where would the world be today? Would it be safe to assume all of Asia, continental Europe, the Caribbean, the South Pacific (save for Australia and New Zealand), and most likely Central and South America be communist today?

So now that a Republican president is courageous enough to put a face on the faceless enemy we call terrorism, be it that Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Kim Jong Ill, or all of the above, you f*cking self-righteous, myopic, hypocritical hippies (Scott McClellan included) purport to know more than the presidents of lore and history itself. Pretty f*cking arrogant!

If it's of any consolation to you well-intentioned liberal pussies, however, I've heard Tibet is at the top of John McCain's to-free list. :)

I have better things to do on a Sunday that sit in front of a computer, reading the same old shit again and again.

Seriously, is there anything on this thread that has
n't been posted a gazillion times over the last five years? We've even got someone here talking about impeachment!

HAR~! HAR~!

Are you REALLY suggesting that the Vietnam war prevented the spread of communism through continetnal Europe and South America?

Should have finished school, dude.

Do you guys ever READ what you write before posting it?

"the presidents of lore " is my favorite line.

Who is Bob Herbert and who gives a SHIT what he has to say?

"Bani" Since when is Rosie O'ASSHOLE a government insider?

Which 100% flip-flopping politician stated the following:

"I don't think our troops ought to be used for what's called nation building."

W.

Then he forgets that the world thought Saddam had WMD's.

this is a lie

So now that a Republican president is courageous enough to put a face on the faceless enemy we call terrorism, be it that Bin Laden

yeah, how's that going?

Bush"I truly am not that concerned about him."

nearly 7 years later and the perpetrator of the worst attack on the US is still alive and kicking.

Bush is a failure

The worst attack on the US is not 911. 911 is a massive hoax that was filmed in a Hollywood studeio

***** So now that a Republican president is courageous enough to put a face on the faceless enemy we call terrorism, be it that Bin Laden *****

.....would that be the same president who put Bin Laden's relatives on planes out of the country before the FBI could question them after 9-11.?.....

**** How about the brave young men martyred in Vietnam? Did they die in vain? *****

......yes they did......for nothing at all.......

......so McCain is going to liberate Tibet from the Chinese ?.......

............you are nuts...........

"dangerously affected by religious delusions"

I love how he claims he "prayed on it" when referring to his decision to invade Iraq.

It is all Jebus' fault.

.....he can't even liberate Wal-Mart from the Chinese....let alone Tibet......

"McClellan is telling the truth.

Yeah, yeah, like you're going to start shooting off your mouth to the media when you're surrounded by Secret Service, plus people from the FBI, NSA, and CIA. Hoo boy, that'd really fly.

You get your ass out of there, and you spend some time with a really good lawyer before you open up, is what you do. You're dealing with people who can pull sufficient strings to get you brought up on trumped-up charges, discredited, plant a scandal on you, whatever. And that's what McClellan did.

Would you play "Neener, neener" with a mugger while he's still got his gun pointed at your chest?

""McClellan is telling the truth.
However, if he was a real man,...."

No intelligent, patriotic American would have supported Bush much less stayed in the administration. Personally, I am glad McClellan wrote the book but it doesn't magicly turn him into an ethical or patriotic American. He is still a scum bag but he's a scum bag willing to spill his guts about bigger scum bags.

"Personally, I am glad McClellan wrote the book but it doesn't magicly turn him into an ethical or patriotic American."

Actually, Danni, it just might. That book has enough info in it that the next Administration has a total road map for investigation and prosecution.

If they dare, and if Pelosi can be impeached, of course. But the info's there because McClellan stuck his neck out.

Would it be safe to assume all of Asia, continental Europe, the Caribbean, the South Pacific (save for Australia and New Zealand), and most likely Central and South America be communist today?

Safer to assume giant man-eating ants from Pluto would be our overlords.

VN did zilch about communism. China is still communist, Cuba is still communist, NK is still communist, VN is still communist. Dictatorships of the left and right collapse of their own ineffectiveness and corruption. See Argentina, Chile, Philipines, for examples from the right. Cuba is sliding and one lifted trade embargo from democracy.

Russia's economic collapse got rid of communism in the USSR, at least temporarily. Nothing to do with VN.
