I read plenty of people here on DR wish opponents ill, especially at the polls or in the eyes of history, but I've never read anyone advocating violence against any of them.

The Secret Service jumps on things like this because peaceful democratic change of administrations is a cornerstone of of our society and system of government. No candidate can possibly be so vile, or do as much damage to this country, as his or her assassination would. It strikes right at the very heart of representative government and negates the popular will. If we should have zero tolerance for anything, we should have it for this.
