Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Thursday, May 22, 2008

The House overwhelmingly rejected President Bush's veto Wednesday of a $290 billion farm bill, but what should have been a stinging defeat for the president became an embarrassment for Democrats. Action stalled, however, after the discovery that Congress had omitted a 34-page section of the bill when lawmakers sent the massive measure to the White House.

Yep, this democratic congress majority proves once again they are lazy do nothings.

Omitted 35 pages.......LOL!

did it on purpose and didn't think an issue would be made from it.

Wasting our tax dollars on a continuous basis and people support this.

morons.

Wonders if Moneywar has ever forgotten something at any time. Just curious.

Larry Mohr

Come on Larry, it is a damn bill being turned into law for the president to sign.

Wasting our tax dollars with doing nothing by trying to give the appearance as if they are really doing something.

This party of misfits is disgusting and had all kinds of add ons.

Forgot, lol, that is really too too too funny.

The legislation includes election-year subsidies for farmers and food stamps for the poor -- spending that lawmakers could promote when they are back in their districts over the Memorial Day weekend.

Now what have they to talk about, how they wasted our tax dollars.

Lazy democratic party majority of enept do nothings and to think, people defend this waste.

Moneywar, Larry is just towing the party line. Eating shit and smiling while doing it is just Larry's democrat party duty.

Bee Swell

Sorry crackpipe but you have nothing offered to generate any kind of respect so your words as always are worthless.

Larry is moving to generate a partial debate as he believes congress is being sincere in the ommittance.

I am calling him on it.

One thing Larry will do is debate when approach with civil prudent rational thoughts, unlike your usual childish crap.

One can see why NC has such poverty, you show us all why.

Sorry had to finish mowing My lawn. Come on Moneywar how many THOUSANDS of pages of documens do our legislators generate each Legislative session and You are worried about 34 pages forgotten by congress?? Come on are You serious??

Larry Mohr

Larry,

I find it hard to believe you actually think ommitting 34 critical pages in a bill they have been spouting about for the last week is by accident.

You mean they are not numbered? You mean it is not checked and double checked before it is sent off for signatures?

Yes that is what I am saying Moneywar. They simply forgot. How many pieces of legislation do they go through each day?? Each week each month and they miss 34 of them?? Come on I could see if it was 340 or more but 34 that's kinda silly to be complaining about don't You think??

Larry Mohr

No, it is kind of silly giving or letting them off with such an excuse.

Lazy do nothings for political reasons, just not made apparent YET.

I now have to agree with crackpipe here because I don't think you would be as foregiving if it was still a republican majority.

Expect garbage and that's what you'll get. Demand excellence and maybe we'll get something a little better then this lazy do nothing democratic party majority.

WOW Unbelievable. Just because I disagree with You now You side with CPJ?? That's funny. Your perogative though. Let Me ask You this. Have You ever planned for a trip somewhere and thought You checked and double checked what You was supposed to bring and had forgotten one critical item that You left at home?? Been there done that COUNTLESS times. But that's ok Moneywar You can keep CPJ company.

Larry Mohr

I don't think anyone is more supportive of the Democrats than me but this screw up aside, the bill had too many irrelevant attachments and was reminiscent of the type of thing the REpublicans do.
For once I don't blame the president for vetoing it. We need new Democratic leadership in both houses that won't play these games. If Democrats want to increase their majority then they need to stop acting as poorly as REpublicans.

Danni,

Thank you! At least now someone is actually seeing the issue for what we really have in our majority congress.

I know in the past you have not like my critique of our democratic party majority, but we have to start demanding some proper action from them or nothing will change.

The errors need to be pointed out every time and a demand for better government be screamed about. Our leaders are not leading so they need a foot in the butt.

Larry,

I just think you are giving them an out they don't deserve and frankly don't understand why you have chosen to give such.

We are not talking about a single person mistake here and I think you understand such.

The bill was a bad bill and the democrat majority knew so and knew its veto and unsupport in the senate would go down in defeat so they conjure up some mistake to make an excuse about the wasted tax dollars spent on making such a worthless bill.

Like I said, do nothing majority democratic congress, make good bill and they will pass.

I would say that they are more sloppy than lazy. This is ridiculous.

At least somebody read the damn thing and noticed the pages were missing.

That's an improvement over the rubber stamp Repub congress, right there.

OohRah they forgot to send all of the paperwork big damned deal. Hell I betcha You have even forgotten to do that. Oh and about mowing the lawn at night I use a super quiet nonmotorized reel mower. Just attach a flashlight to it so You can see and away You go. It only requires about 8 to 10 DROPS of 3 in 1 oil and NO Gas. You can't beat it.

Larry Mohr

That is a big deal Larry, that's their freaking job.

I bet you think if a surgeon forgets a scalpel in his patient after surgery it's no big deal too right?

What we needed to do long ago was vote out all the incumbents, there needs to be an ass whooping in Washington.

Silver,

It wasn't caught until it went to the senate, so that tells us the house didn't read the damn thing and as expected the president didn't either.

Talk about lazy do nothings, no wonder our country is so messed up.

"president didn't either"

I'm shocked!
Shocked, I tell you!

I bet you think if a surgeon forgets a scalpel in his patient after surgery it's no big deal too right?

Comparing forgetting a scalpel inside of a patient to forgetting paperwork My god dude have You any common sense. Missing Paperwork ain't going to kill anybody for pete sakes.

Larry Mohr

So just to clarify, if the party names were reversed, you'd be as understanding/forgiving?

On that mower, I wonder how powerful it can be. Is yours a small yard? Why mow at night when the grass is damp?

Larry

Missing Paperwork ain't going to kill anybody for pete sakes.

Really?

Suppose the government will take actions without having the proper paperwork.

I am tired of busting you chops, just surprised at the pass you give.

You must be part of that 12% who thinks congress is doing a wonderful job. No, it is because it is the farm bill and it will directly effect you.

WOW Really?? I own a Farm?? WOW I never knew that. When did this happen?? Jeez The things You learn about Yourself upon the Drudge Retort. I guess I best call up the extention office to locate this farm. Guess that means I will have to learn how to farm now. Thanks a bunch.

Larry Mohr

Larry,

I was thinking more along this line with the bill. :)

Boost nutrition programs, including food stamps and emergency domestic food aid, by more than $10 billion over 10 years.

All clerical errors aside, does anyone detect any desire to cut spending and balance the budget?

I'm all for balancing the budget, let's stop flushing money down the toilet known as Iraq.

did it on purpose and didn't think an issue would be made from it.

If thy did it on purpose, it may be quite smart - it foreces Bush to veto it AGAIN.

If you are going to make shit up, you should think ahead a bit more.

RCADE,

Thanks for the boost and the new title, yours is better.

Danni,

So, these farm bill payoffs to rich people are a good use of money, but defending ourselves in a war we didn't start is not?

Well, the terrorists are counting on that opinion becoming the majority one. See, they get the idea we're fat, lazy, and unable to stick up for any principles....I see where they get the idea....

This is a terrible bill. People who make up to $2.5 million can recieve subsidies. This from the dems who want to tax the rich???

What was the number I heard, how many billions of pork and earmarks in here.

Does anyone really believe the dems are any different than the repubs?

ryker,

What the hell are you talking about?

Moneywar,

What are you asking about?

Yep,

just as I thought, you don't even know....LOL!

Moneywar,

?

This is a terrible bill.

If you look at the bills the Dems have pushed for the last 2 years and you will find most of them just like this.

Garbage, republican garbage masked as the do nothing democrat majority.

And they whine and whine about not having a super majority.

That's scary!

I know, let sue OPEC!

Subsidies for the rich?

Moneywar,

Well, it certainly is garbage...So what is it in my logic that you found incomprehensible? See, I'm a teacher and I try to help people who have questions.....

So, these farm bill payoffs to rich people are a good use of money, but defending ourselves in a war we didn't start is not?

And you're a teacher?

A product of "No Child Left Behind" no doubt!

D'oh!

I wouldn't be a Dem if I wasn't prepared to deal with the times my party snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.

But still, this one hoits.

Nice post RCADE, I strongly feel the same way.

"No Child Left Behind"

A perfect example of bipartisan hope and change.

Back to mowing for a minute. Larry, I have a reel mower. It worked okay when I had a tiny yard and the grass wasn't very tall. But in a bigger yard full of fast-growing grass (especially this time of year), it's hard to keep up, and it tends to sort of mash down, rather than cut -- so I'm back to gas-powered.

Maybe your reel mower is designed differently. I love the idea of not using fuel to cut my grass, but I'm also rather anal about my landscape.

MoneyWar,

Yes, I'm a teacher.

What's the issue with the statement you quoted?

You know, I didn't pile on the Dem Congress at all for not having enough votes to end the war or any of their other failed efforts this year, but WTF..... you would think that professional bureaucrats would be better at shuffling paper than this!

I wouldn't be a Dem if I wasn't prepared to deal with the times my party snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.

I think that's what makes you a masochist, not a dem, rcade.

And as for the subject matter of this thread...

Our politicians don't write the bills they vote for...
and they certainly don't read the bills they vote for...
so why are we expecting that the bills won't be missing a few pages as they're passed around?

We get the representatives we vote for. After a few generations of voting for the lesser of two evils, this should come as no surprise.

CBOB I love mine. I have about a 50 foot X 70 foot front Yard and about the same for the back. The key here is doing it every 4th or 6th day depending on rainfall. I love how it does not bruise the grass blades and Goll Darnit it's actually FUNNNN. Now if only I could take one of those mini pick ups from China and make Me a peddle truck I would use no fuel at all. Get in and peddle to the grocery store. I would have it made then.

Larry Mohr

What's the issue with the statement you quoted?

You don't see anything wrong in this statement?

but defending ourselves in a war we didn't start is not?

Just wondering.

You're so witty! I'll bet the women just throw themselves at you!

"I'll bet the women just throw themselves at you!"

From a great height.

For the record, we started the war with Iraq. We were attacked on 9/11, the official version goes, by 19 men, of whom 15 were Saudis and none were Iraqis.

As for the Farm Bill's missing pages, I'm reminded of a number of Republican-sposored bills in recent years that have had pages mysteriously inserted or replaced by unknown people after legislators looked at the bill. That was clearly "on purpose"--as for the Farm Bill omission, it's not as clear.

Don't get me wrong; I think most politicians are sneaky. But mistakes do happen. I spent part of the week editing a news article on the Farm Bill vote and the veto--went to press--now the story has changed in an unexpected way. We'll look at it again next week.

BTW, Larry, I'm using a push reel mower this year and having a good time, and the lawn looks good. Good exercise and environmentally responsible--and I have the pride of doing it myself in what I believe is the right way. At least for me.

I agree Jimi nothing like taking pride in one's work. Another benefit You can mow barefoot without too much worry. Feel those grass clippings between Your toes. Back to Basics.

Larry

Hey RIR why don't You check them Yourself since You are so interested in them.

Larry

Amen, Larry! People don't know what they're missing. The simple life (without Miss Hilton).

You're so witty! I'll bet the women just throw themselves at you!

but defending ourselves in a war we didn't start is not?

defending ourselves from whom? i really don't remember Iraq attacking us. Saudialquedia aka Bush's House of Monkeyboy Dancing, yes, but Iraq, no...

Hell, they should have lost the whole damn thing. Price supports add 25% to a gallon of milk, and the sugar subsidy has sent candy makers to Canada while making billions for Cargill and ADM who supply corn-based fructose as a sweetener for soft drinks.

Most people are so removed from agriculture that they still believe the hype about saving "family" farms and ensuring the food supply. The fact is it produces an overabundance and further consolidation of the industry.

This was a bad bill--complete pandering after the Iowa caucus--happens every four years. And how would Bush be responsible to find 35 missing pages when he vetoed the damn thing out of hand?

I don't understand why we--the taxpayers should be paying the farmers NOT TO GROW whatever they farm.

Both parties suck--there is no leadership in either party.

The Repubs are going to take a bath in Nov if they don't get back to basics and stop the bullshit.

They need a Salute to America with a plan of no more pork, balance the budget, secure the borders--there are other issues that even all of the DR posters would agree with needs to get done.

Murphy

I agree with you here, Murphy. The day of subsidies should have been over long ago. Subsidies served a purpose briefly, and long ago. Now they're an institutionalized gravy train--a huge, sucking tick buried into the skin of our nation.

But what else is new. It's everywhere. Have a cigar.

Northguy,

Oh, the war we didn't start. Well, we didn't start the War on Terror...they did. If you see Iraq as seperate from that, then I guess you wouldn't agree with that statement....You'd also be incorrect to do so....The terrorists arent' confused about the link, as evidenced by all the dying they're doing there...

I think that's what makes you a masochist, not a dem, rcade.

Is there a difference?

Is there a difference?

Good one.

The masochist screams at the sadist, "Hurt me! Hurt me now!!"

The sadist says, "No."

RCADSE "Is there a difference" -- Yes there is, masochists have more fun! :)

Regardless of the end result, there should not have been so much put into this bill. The nutrition standards for schools, that sounds good. We have too many faties in this country as it is. Now what are you doing about education on nutrition. I know it sounds ridiculous to tell people that fast food and deep fried anything is unhealthy, but there are obviously a lot of people who don't understand that.

I don't like the expansion of food stamps, but I'm willing to concede if you use the money pulled from those corporate subsidies. But no, congress wants to EXPAND those subsidies (by the way, I appreciate so many libs on here tearing this apart as well. Now if only more conservatives would say the same thing about oil subsidies we could all sit down and have a real conversation about solving our economic and energy problems).

This was nothing but a PR move by congress. Anyone who understands this bill and it's true implications know that its bullshit. Unfortunately, the dumb masses look at this thing as "saving the family farm." Nothing could really be farther from the truth. If the family farm can't make a profit, then tough titties. This part of the bill is nothing short of corporate welfare...and god damn do I hate corporate welfare (earmarks anyone?).

The family farm is long gone...by design...

PELOSI AND REID -- THE TWEEDLE_DEE AND TWEEDLE_DUMBER OF CAPITAL HILL.

SE4, you wouldn't be a Republican, would you? How did I guess?

They do sell keyboards with lowercase letters--look around, you'll find one.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
!!!!!!!!!!

these bozos cant even get paperwork right and you liberals think they are going to save the republic.....

ah...this is classic.......
if you worked for a law firm or the like and a billion dollar deal was in jeapardy because you left out 34 pages...YOU WOULD GET FIRED>......and larry......if they dont have someone who can handle the load.....FIND SOMEONE ELSE>.....

"Dems blunder on farm bill" SO WHAT IS NEW?

Calm down, they're just going to re-vote on it and send it to the prez again. Maybe they did it to do a "double rebound" veto just for grins?

nah jim, they did it because they worry about other shit more than they care about taking care of the rest of us and you can include republicans in that same boat.

Well, I do agree with you in large part, BL2. Maybe that's why Congress is getting an 11% approval rating.

I don't know why they don't take the voting machines and equip them with one choice, "None of the Above," and be done with it.

I do like Dennis Kucinich, not primarily because he's a thoughtful progressive, but because he's a real maverick. In this free country, I'm entitled to that view.
