Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A Japanese film crew has caught one of the longest recorded flights of a flying fish -- a 45-second flight at speeds exceeding 20mph. This beats one previous, impressive report from an American researcher in the 1920s of 42 seconds. The animal is seen traveling parallel to a ferry, which itself is motoring at about 30km/hour.

How do you spell evolution in action?

I'm sure the combination KFC / Long John Silver's are already looking into it.

Dumper and his partner are investigating other possible uses...

According to the NRA-it doesn't matter how they taste, they'll use 'em to replace skeet shooting.....

Landing looked a little rough, but like they say in flight school, any landing you can swim away from...

I am a Christian and I take offense to what you wrote.

Uh oh, looks like the christian PC police are here. No posting of anything that might hurt their feelings.

That's not a fast flying fish, it's just a good glider. I saw the video, and he cheated. He clearly dragged in the water a few times...

Flying fish make the best live bait, but are almost impossible to catch live......

but are almost impossible to catch live......

Just rename them McCainfish. Then they'll crash right into your boat.

*ducks*

"How do you spell evolution in action?"

I'm not denying evolution.

But its hard to imagine all the intermediate steps that led from a fish with normal fins to a flying fish. There would be many generations of fish that couldn't fly at all but whose fins were no longer ideal for swimming.

I think our attitude towards evolution has become somewhat ignorant, due to the backlash against creationism. We act like we know it all and really we have little clue how it actually works.

who cares.. if your faith is that sensitive it ain't faith its emotion and an irrational one at that.

this fish definitely show evolution in action..

But its hard to imagine all the intermediate steps that led from a fish with normal fins to a flying fish. There would be many generations of fish that couldn't fly at all but whose fins were no longer ideal for swimming.

It's really not that hard to imagine. Think baby steps happening over millions of years. It's hard to imagine that modern birds came from dinosaurs, but that's the case.

"Think baby steps happening over millions of years."

But if you think about the baby steps, the creature is at a disadvantage during the thousands of years between the time his fins are ideal for swimming and able to allow him to glide.

There is really no proof that evolution always works in baby steps, by the way.

evolution always works

"Always" is always difficult to prove by inductive methods.

PULL!! Bang.
