I don't currently own a gun. The only thing that would drive me to purchase one is if government made it illegal.

Let's look at DC. They have banned gun purchases, yet the violent crime rate has stayed the same. There is NO factual information proving gun control does any good. Just like there is no factual proof saying that gun control legislation does any harm. There is factual proof that nothing will change. This is one of those emotion laws. Just let people have their freedom to have guns since it will not change anything except that government is interfering with our lives once again.

Anyone that lives their life and tries to force others to live their life around a book no one knows who wrote , how many times it was copied, nor how accurate the copy was, and we have thousands of interpretations of various qoutes etc etc is an idiot. Obama does not have the power to let anyone make gun control laws nor will he alone have that power. Secondly get over the second amendment. You nor anyone else is going to go toe to toe against the US military with the guns you are now allowed to own. You can't live off the land and you can't survive in the wilderness without the government finding you. The dream is over get over it. The only thing guns are useful for now is hunting and personal protection and certainly not for what the founding fathers had intended and that was for overthrowing a tyranical government.

I plan to purchase a few more pistols plus spare parts and ammo prior to next Jan. Better to have them and be able to pass them onto my children and grand children for a not very pleasant looking future. Protect your own - never be foolish enough to believe that the 'state' will be there to protect you.

Gun control is a non-starter. The Dems aren't going to advocate for it; there are bigger fish to fry. All this amounts to is Republicans running the same old FUD script. Next up: School Prayer, Flag Burning, and the 10 Commandments in Courthouses - vital issues all.

And it's largely irrelevant; until the SCOTUS decides Heller v. DC, none of this matters.

Principles that Obama supports on gun issues:
Ban the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weapons.
Increase state restrictions on the purchase and possession of firearms.
Require manufacturers to provide child-safety locks with firearms.

I'm sure with a little more searching I can find more. You should give it a try sometime in stead of doing all the name calling.

REZ.....there are only about 1.5 million people in our armed forces....there are over 300,000,000 people in our country with as many as 3X firearms per person.... we could overthrow our government if we need to....and yes the firearms we have now could do the job

but i agree firearms have taken a more personal protection role/ hunting.....but to ignore the third reason is just plain silly and dangerous

He doesn't give a crap about the gun issue, it's nothing but a wedge issue and he knows it very well.
