Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Thursday, May 15, 2008

Regarding the copyright discussion earlier this week, 14 blog entries on the Retort have been removed in response to Digital Millenium Copyright Act notices of copyright infringement filed Wednesday by a media organization. In all but one of the cases, the entries contained the full text of a news article.

In the spirit of copyright law, I hereby claim "Bubble-bath taking burrito sitter" as mine. Sorry!

I wonder who had stories remove, since they were stories and not truth it had to be republican reporightfundies.

Rcade

My email to you is correct and current. I've sent you two emails today in response to the one you sent me this morning about this issue. I'll be sure and read this article -- and most likely I'll probably just skip doing userblogs altogether from now on. I can't believe posting a very short newstory of an article printed in a Chicago newspaper about a winning lottery ticket being sold would be such a big deal.

Maybe this is to destroy blogs altogether.

Does this apply only to the lead-in entry?
Also, making sure the entry part is always in quote marks is no protection?

I think that's a very wise move on your part.
A person like you should do all they can to protect their own name and be upfront and proud of their gay moniker and kinky burrito sitting lifestyle and culture.

Oh, and don't forget to register and copyright all your other multiple names too, Burritoboy, not to mention a copyright of your numerous sick mulitple personalities. One can never be too careful in protecting oneself. Not that anyone else would ever want them except for you - and you - and you - and you.
Err, did I leave any of "you" out? Mea culpa if I did.

Rcade

Just now sent you an email responding to the second one you sent me.

What a crybaby. Go take a bath.

Only if it has rose-scented bubbles in it.

As for my email to Rcade --

Please don't flatter yourself thinking it had anything to do with you and/or your pathetic multiple personalities. My email to Rcade had to do with the subject matter of this thread - nothing more. As far as I am concerned, you aren't worth the keystrokes it would take me to send an email about you to anyone.

RCade,

Thanks for the update. In addition to news articles, we shouldn't be posting lyrics or poems either I suppose, unless the songs or poems in question are so old that they are in the public domain. I sometimes post quotes from books, and I usually give the author, title and pages numbers of works cited. Hope that is okay?

Why would I care what some Burbank dwelling bubble bath taking cry baby whiner says? You're a joke.

Hey who is that fuckhead Game Show host that always said we are coming from Burbank California?? Not Chuck Woolery that other guy. Lord I know RCADE off topic deluxe but give Me an indulgence.

"Beautiful downtown Burbank"

Rowen and Martin's "Laugh-In" used it.

Johnny Carson used the phrase later on.

Nothis was a Game Show host. He also did a newleywed type of game Oh God I can not think.

How do I know why you're so obsessed with me?

I didn't see the movie but you remind me of the line from the movie "Brokeback Mountain" where that gay guy says "I just can't quit you." Sounds like you are with me. Ewwww. You even lead off the very first post on some new thread with a comment about me or your really odd fetish with my bubble baths. (grin)

You're out of your league here trying to get the best of me, burritoboy.

Go away and leave me alone -- or it is 'cause you "just can't quit" me hahahaha.

Oh God I can not think.

Hence the phrase MohrOn

Oh great a stray piece of garbage opines as usual. Where is a Heil when You need one.

When sharing links to news stories, post a headline and summary describing the article, and perhaps add a excerpt or quote if necessary. Don't run the full text of the article, even if it is short. I think we can address these concerns without getting into a sphincter-clenching legal battle, which is obviously a high priority around here. A user-generated news weblog like this one requires that members respect copyright laws.

At one point blog-world was the wild wild west but those days are rapidly coming to a close Spud sees.

Making it increasingly difficult to share knowledge seems to one of the more successful tacks the legal beagles are taking to slow down the flow of the Word.

Unfortunate but not unforseen.

Coupla questions.

First, Why can't we break the 40 space headline barrier?

Writing funny headlines is a staple over on Fark and while it may take some dimmer bulbs some time to figure out what the article in question is really about it at least encourages folks to read the articles.

Second, why no "New Window" links for the articles?

Spud, as yer no doubt aware, likes quoting bits of verse from time to time, mostly of the lyrical variety.

In the world of ads and such one is allowed to use a certain amount of a song before copyright infringement commences.

Is there a similar deal here?

Is it a number of words things?

Is it an Eminent Domain thing?

Are citations such as those Gal talks about part of the process.

Oh Blog-god, we, yer humble blog-servants, beseech thee fer further guidance in this arcane matters.

After the dealios wif Dave Weiner and the whole War Games clusterfuck et al you certainly don't need and further sphincter-clenching excercises.

Spud bets you could practically make a lump of coal into a diamond at this point, in fact.

Spud is try to work within the given parameters but first must ascertain precisely where the boundries lie.

Ta in advance.

Be Well.

/Will check back later, outta here fer now, as ya do,
stage left.

Bob Eubanks?

Yesssssss that's it. Thanks Jomama. Appreciate it.

Althoug Gary Owens - the announcer on Laugh-In - coined the term "beautiful downtown Burbank" funny because Burbank has neither a downtown nor is particularly beautiful. Now Glendale, OTH...

My understanding is that is okay to post parts of poems but not whole poems that aren't in the public domain. Not sure about song lyrics. Who's complaining? Whoever wrote the verse or lyrics would be my guess.

Why do you guys always forget to include the proud members of the libertarian loon brigade? We work hard at being libertarian loons and crackpots, a little appreciation would be nice.

"When sharing links to news stories, post a headline and summary describing the article, and perhaps add a excerpt or quote if "

Point of clarification, by quote do you mean the quote symbols " " only or is blockquoting text considered quoting? It might seem like a stupid question, but if I remember right from when I had to wirte paers in school, if you quote a few sentences or a paragraph, you can leave a speace, indent the quoted text, leave another space and then continue writting. Same rules apply here?

Let me reiterate - be it the left-wing loonie, the right-wing nutcase, or the Libertarian crack-pot, I appreciate.

Well that's because we don't really count for anything.

If you ask Danni, we should "just choose" one of the two readily established parties. We should either be democrats or republicans. She'd prefer democrats because she knows that they have all of the answers to all of the problems.

If only use Americans would stop worrying about bleeding money through the nose, the democrats would have enough money to fix everything.

status quo.

*us Americans*...that is.

Jomama,

Let me get this straight, left-wing loonie, right wing nut-case and liberatarian crack-pot. I kinda agree with you because all three of these groups really agree on the essentials.

It's when the left wing loonie becomes a marxists and the right wing nutcase becomes a nazi and the liberatarian crack-pot become an anarchist that bothers me.

This is what the media pushes. Extreme-ilizing everyone and that leaves the 'regular peoples' out of the debate.

It's just an idea, there is more than one way to skin a cat (gee, I hope that phrase is not copyrighted too : ( )

Nope-not copyrighted, butt......

I suspect some of those "to be skinned" cats MIGHT be a little upset by it-but, what the hell-they have no say anyway...

Rcade- I have corrected my email so if you have a dump for me let er rip. I don't think I have violated copyright as I try to attribute all my quotes and I only cut and paste partial quotes as far as I can remember... I did notice that some where starting to copy the entire stories but i thought it was because some sites were being stinkers and required to much personal info before they let you read stuff.

I have this funny little belief in my head that all information is free and belongs to all of us...

But, whatever, I will of course respect yer wishes!

luv this site...

and as always I only steal from the best...

I salute you all.

I proudly accept !
I want to thank God, the DR academy, and JOMAMA for their continuing support of right wing bloggers...I will strive to carry on in my quest to bring diverse stories, profound irritation, and the conservative perspective to DR left wingers.

...she wipes a tear

Because I do respect you Rcade I've shortened and scrubbed this response, but believe me - I'm fuming. Thanks for the follow-up.

Imo DethSpud is right - this blog frontier is being controlled unto it's demise.
