Back in the early 90's, the repubs were an organization composed mostly of conservatives. Then something happened and they started to move more and more left, probably thinking they would garner more votes. They did some good things (like cut taxes), but they kept expanding government and increase spending (which does not work if you cut taxes). They broke their promise of shrinking government, which has led to a lot of jumping ship. On top of that, they insist on investing more money into a war that will have no benefit to America (I envy their ambition of spreading democracy, but not at the detriment of their own country).

The dems have jumped on this void that has been left by repubs and put a couple of conservatives on the ballot, which is great. I am happy to see a couple of conservatives eleced to congress, regardless of party affiliation. We need to have a balance in our federal government or things go to hell (see '81-'00 vs '77-'80 and '01-'08).

Someone stated it earlier...the repubs are a sinking ship because they keep trying to push the policies of our big-government/pro-war president when it is obvious that no one likes his policies. While the repubs have shot down Newt's idea of addressing 5-6 major issue's and the policies they propose to better those issue's, it may be the only way to save the party.

Having one of these parties fall could be a great thing. It may open the door for a third party to gain some traction and in 20 years we could have a solid third party showing on the federal level. (Probably wishful thinking)

With government spending out of control, I've grown increasingly frustrated with the GOP. They've lost their way, and need to find the path back to their conservative roots.
