JACKSON, Miss. -- In Mississippi's First Congressional District, Democrat Travis Childers beat Republican Greg Davis in a special election to replace Republican Roger Wicker, who served in the House since 1994 and was appointed to the U.S. Senate to fill the seat vacated by Trent Lott. The seat had been held by Republicans since 1995.

The DCCC's & DSCC's campaingn song

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, Im gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

"Democrat Bill Foster took former Speaker Dennis Hastert's seat in a northern Illinois district that President Bush won with 55 percent of the vote in 2004.

Democrat Don Cazayoux took former Republican Rep. Richard Baker's district in Louisiana, which Bush had won with 59 percent of the vote.

In Mississippi Democrats picked up Sen. Roger Wicker's old seat, which Bush had won with 62 percent of the vote." This was Trent Lott's old seat.

Repubs. are losing long held seats to the dems. looking bad for the general election. Can we say veto/filibuster proof majorities?

In many ways, this is a lot bigger news that Hillary in W.V. It is a sign of things to come in November.

From Your lips(Fingers) to God's ears(Eyes) I hope both Obama wins and the Democrats have a fillbuster proof majority and we cram so much shit down republicans throats they will need a halls logenge to soothe the ache. Bwhahaha You got to love paybacks.

"Childers is a socially conservative county official, while Davis is mayor of a fast-growing city across the state line from Memphis, Tenn.

Vice President Dick Cheney campaigned for Davis the day before the special election, and Davis ran ads trying to tie Childers to Barack Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and the national Democratic Party's policies.

Childers stressed his independence, emphasizing his support of gun rights and opposition to abortion. He said his values match those of most voters in the deeply conservative district."

Davis would have been better off to have told Cheney to stay away. Bush and Cheney are virtually radioactive these days, no smart Republican will have anything to do with them. Get as far away from them as possible. Hey, become Democrats, it's your only hope of winning.

Actually I have no problem with this... I'll take a Democrat like Childress who breaks with the DNC on many issues... that's perfectly fine.

Hell if that's the strategy the Democrats want to take then hopefully the Republicans will do the same thing and the country will be much better off.

But Rob, he'll still be voting with the Democratic Majority on most issues. On the important issues.

Oh great, anothe do-nothing dem. Pelosi and Reed have been so very effective so far.

The Republicans deserve to lose and lose big. This doesn't surprise me.

But, aren't people from the South just a bunch of backward, fat, mouthbreathing retards who live on the public largesse provided by tax payers from "blue" states and think that the world was created a few months ago?

If so, why are these dumbasses starting to vote Democrat -- and for Hillary in particular?

Maybe... maybe not... It sounds like he's at least open to the thoughts and beliefs of the other side of the aisle... that's alright with me.

He's a so-called conservative Democrat in a very red state, he has his constiutuents to answer to at the end of the day...

We need more Democrats and Republicans like this guy.

I dont hear the Republican's laughing so loud anymore. They have been having a great time watching our Primary but I think it is starting to sink in that they will lose big time in the Fall.

If so, why are these dumbasses starting to vote Democrat --
Same reaason the owner of FOX News took Hillary out to lunch-nobody wants to be on the losers side...

Related to the Mississippi race here's a nice article from the DrudgeReport illustrating GOP angst :
www.realclearpolitics.com

The GOP wasn't in the congressional desert for 40 years because they were competent.

I dont hear the Republican's laughing so loud anymore.

Huh? I'm still laughing that Hillary is still in the race and that a state by state matchup of McCain vs. Obama has McCain winning...

I think its fucking hilarious...

What's even funnier is that Obama wrapped up this nomination a while back, but is still losing elections to the lady he's already beaten...

And how is McCain doing in his primaries, Rob?

How come those other pesky guys keep taking votes away from him?

Maybe you need to start thinking how entertaining the Rep convention is gonna be.

I don't recall any of them ending their campaigns. They simply "suspended" them. Tell the class what the difference is.

And how is McCain doing in his primaries, Rob?

Winning all of them...

Maybe you need to start thinking how entertaining the Rep convention is gonna be.

Sounds like it might be pretty interesting... doesn't change the fact that McCain beat all of them in the Primaries... If Paul and Huckabee and Romney want to try anything at the Convention that's their right, but all its going to look like is a bunch of whiners who can't accept that they didn't win elections.

Rob...he will vote with the dem. caucus and the dems. will control the agenda. Even with an influx of conservative dems. the bills coming out of congress will be left center.

"He's a so-called conservative Democrat in a very red state,"

Rob... assuming the two candidates have similar conservative credentials, in a very red district the choice was to go dem. The other races show the same results, even in nation wide generic contests of dems. vs. repub. the dem. candidates have double digit leads. There seems to be a nation wide rejection of the republ. Party.

Knd of like the dems in the last 2 presidential elections.

laugh now... dont worry we will have plenty of tissues for you in the Fall.

YML...says it all ...I agree

YML...nice link...amazing that the repubs. had so much going for them coming out of 1994, a disgraced pres. and a dem. congress in disarray. They should have had a 40-years plus domination of the US political agenda and 100 + years judicial dominance.

The conservative judicial advances in the Supreme Court will be negated by the dem. appointments over the next 40+? years. The court will be more conservative but the next pres. will probably nominate 3 justices in his/her first term.

Obama 47, McCain 40
Clinton 46, McCain 41

Nothing wrong with supporting the 2nd Amendment. Congressmen should support the entire Constitution.

As for abortion, the devil is in the details. I have no problem whatsoever with a Democrat opposing abortion. If he wants to work to promote adoption, to fight teen pregnancy, to promote responsibility and birth control, great. He will reduce the number of abortions the right way.

The GOP draconian method of trying to make abortion illegal while also trying to ban sex ed and birth control makes it worse.

Stuart read what I said again, then think if posting a NATIONAL poll was the proper answer...

Watching the Insulars discuss brand and possibly change there political philosophy must have Sean Hannity looking for a gun shop. "Go ahead Sean, put the gun to your head and now pull the trigger."

This is a great feeling knowing that voters are finally being heard. The fear factor of terrorism and Rev. Wright may not be enough this year.

Who is Sean Hannity?

Excellent--changing the Dems from the inside--with a conservative Dem candidate--we'll take him! He and the others won't fit in well with Pelosi's liberal POV.

So Obama and Hillary have a lead over McCain--?

What does the elctoral map look like?

And are the folks being polled in blue states or red states for the %% listed?

Murphy...a poll is a poll but this one seems to have a method to the madness.

May 14

Electoral Votes: Clinton 280 McCain 241 Ties 17
Electoral Votes: Obama 237 McCain 290 Ties 11

what's really funny for me is to see the Republican party collapse from the stench of it's own ineptitude and lies for you to still be in denial about it all.
