Also, Republicans only cast around 1100 votes in the primary. Even if 2 in 10 Dems crossed over to vote for Mcain, Obama still has a good chance at winning WV.

So far, Obama has 3 delegates and 26,126 votes with just 23% reporting.

McCain has 23,397 votes with 23% reporting, and he isn't really running against anyone.

Let's compare the racial and education identity of voters for both candidates and see the percentages.

Well, Hillary picked up 9 delegates and 147,000 popular votes. Good for her, but she still has quite a way to catch up to Obama.

What's interesting is the similarities between the candidates, yet sooo many people vehemently are choosing Clinton in WV. There are also a considerable percentage that claim they would rather vote for McCain than Obama, whose positions are far different than Clintons.

Hey Doc. How many Obama supporters believe Obama is the Messiah? How many support him because he gives a moving speech? How many whites are voting for him because of racial guilt or they believe "its time a black man was elected to show the world that this country is not racist"? How many blacks supporting Obama are uneducated and think the white man is holding them down?

If you want to talk about reasons why Obama is not getting everyone's support, it is valid to ask why Obama is getting anyone's support.

Obama didn't make much of an effort in West Virginia, and it shows. West Virginia is very Democrat, which is why no Republican including McCain does well there. Jay Rockefeller is from West Virginia, very liberal, and very popular there. I realize the media would like to blame it on racism, but the reason the state even exist is because it broke away from the slave state, Virginia, during the Civil War. Obama simply did not try.

This is like a basketball team who is 20 points ahead and in the last minute of the game the other teams strarts a 10-0 run, but still loses by 10 points. The losing team can't then claim that since they played better that last minute they should get the W.

your analogy fails to reflect that the primary, as composed, isn't a "he with the most delegates wins" system. it's more like a foot race with a determined finish line. Neither is going to cross that finish line....it's more like a marathon were He has a lead but she has a strong kick to the finish and they both collapse before they cross the line......who won?

They'll have their first ballot vote with all the pledged delegates, if they conform to convention, voting as they are pledged.

the next vote is wide open, no one is pledged to anything at that point.....

So Hillary's strong kick to the finish is indeed of interest to her party.

It may not have been too little but it is defiantly too late. I don't see how this changes anything. I do admitted she has one shot and that is to take 90 % of everything left, which is not going to happen. I respect Hillary Clinton and have been a huge supporter. She has been right on the issues and has won just about every single debate (in my opinion) she has been in but time has run out. I have no problem voting for Obama but I will always believe she was the stronger smarter choice.

That's why more SDs have come out to back Obama today. The empty threats regarding blue-collar workers are just that - see the MSNBC poll of WV voters, 51% of whom said they would back Obama in November compared to 31% who said they would back McCain.

Also, lost in this is the independent vote that Obama is pulling in. Obama will not only have the blue-collar workers in November but also a sizeable chunk of the independent vote as well.

Doom and gloom doesn't work any more, and it is a pathetic attempt to scare people into backing Hillary.

I prefer electoral college projections, Sailor, since that is the format for the fall contest.

That isn't what I heard this morning Corky. Huckleberry's ex-campaign manager was discussing numbers that showed Obama would still win WV, not as handily as Clinton, but he would still win.

Moreover, the notion that a dem has to win WV is not as relevant as it once was. Obama will pick up states like Virginia, Missouri and maybe even Colorado. Hell, he even has a shot in Kansas and North Carolina (although I don't think he should spend too much time in NC). The demographics are constantly changing and Obama is picking up support in places where Clinton can't on top of picking up the blue-collar support come November.
