Suppose it were reversed, and Hillary had a slight lead among delegates, but Obama won Florida and Michigan? And Obama were winning the big states, but not the small ones that will be going for McCain? Do you suppose, then, that there would be big party and media pressure for Obama to play nice, and bow out quietly?

I believe he would whereas with HRC it was always known that she had no class or no grace, even when she was in the WH. BTW, I did not vote for Bill in 92 or 96 and actually I had not voted DEM in any election, national, state or local until Bush forced my hand in 2004. I did have respect for McCain until he whored himself out to Bush and the neocons.

I think Herbert expected that most folks would understand that saying the Clintons have no shame doesn't mean he thinks the Republican Party isn't far worse. McCain has no pride, after the brutal attacks leveled at him in 2000 by the Bush team he still cozied up to them and now he has deserted all principles and supports issues he strongly objected to just a short time ago.
The rift between Hillary Democrats and Obama Democrats will still not be any where near as wide or deep as the chasm which seperates REpublicans from Americans.
