Seven of the Obama campaign's top 14 donors consisted of officers and employees of the same Wall Street firms charged time and again with looting the public and newly implicated in originating and/or bundling fraudulently made mortgages. Those scars will last a lifetime.

These seven Wall Street firms are (in order of money given): Goldman Sachs, UBS AG, Lehman Brothers, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse. There is also a large hedge fund, Citadel Investment Group, which is a major source of fee income to Wall Street. There are five large corporate law firms that are also registered lobbyists; and one is a corporate law firm that is no longer a registered lobbyist but does legal work for Wall Street. The cumulative total of these 14 contributors through February 1, 2008, was $2,872,128, and we're still in the primary season.

Hasn't Senator Obama repeatedly told us in ads and speeches and debates that he wasn't taking money from registered lobbyists? Hasn't the press given him a free pass on this statement?

Should there be any doubt left as to who owns our government? The very same cast of characters making the Obama hit parade of campaign loot are the clever creators of the industry solutions to the wave of foreclosures gripping this nation's poor and middle class, effectively putting the solution in the hands of the robbers. The names of these programs (that have failed to make a dent in the problem) have the same vacuous ring: Hope Now; Project Lifeline.

Be assured of one thing: this country cannot afford any more grand illusions.

My two biggest issues:

I don't know about you, but if my pastor said the US government inveted AIDS and God Damn America - then the congregation would be talking about it for weeks afterward. So, Obama was not apparently there that week and apparently never heard anybody else talk about it....well, if your IQ is less than 80, you might believe him.

So we have a candidate that runs on 'words and hope' that is an easily demonstratable liar. How many lies must one tell before they are a liar? How many times must Obama lie to his supporters before they realise he does this because he thinks you are too stupid to see through his lies?

I wish the suppposed pro-Obama media would ask Clinton how suspending the fed gas tax somehow constitutes "go(ing) after the oil companies." Making a product cheaper increases demand, and therefore profit for oil companies. What am I missing?

You know, that might actually hold some water if the US inventory of gas and prices were not moving up together currently...basic rules of supply and demand do not hold in a monopoly industry like oil. Not that removing the gas tax is a good idea, but to believe demand would go up along with prices and eliminate the benefit to consumers is pretty stupid.

Can't defend Ford or GWB, but to call Nixon ineffective is showing very little understanding of his presidency. He was paranoid, and he got nailed by Watergate, he escalated Vietnam before it ended, and he had personality issues. But he had a superb foreign policy, he was the first president to visit the USSR, the first to visit all 50 states, he opened up wide diplomatic relations with China, his Supreme Court nominees were balanced (one of - Blackmun - them even wrote the RoevWade majority decision); he started the EPA, he reduced the speed limit to 55 to conserve gasoline (which Bill Clinton later repealed), he broke the school integration log-jam in the South against the George Wallace factions through background negotiations.. he reduced wasteful NASA spending, and eventually got the US out of Kennedy/Johnson's Vietnam War,.

You may not like the guy, or you may not like some of what he did, but I believe to say he was ineffective is simplistic and wrong.

Yes, they are wrong. Economics is based on a set of principles that work great in textbooks but simply do not work in real life. If they did, all gas stations would price exactly the same - not the case. You would not tip in a restuarant when on vacation once again that is not the case for a vast majority of people. The fact of the matter is that economics is based upon all all consumers acting 100% rational all the time and perfect competition and substitution of goods that is not the case. If economists knew what they were talking about, we would never have recessions or asset bubbles the fact is that economist are a useless bunch of fools.
