Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Friday, May 02, 2008

A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Thursday indicates that 71 percent of the American public disapprove of how Bush is handling his job as president -- setting a new record low. "The previous all-time record in CNN or Gallup polling was set by Truman, 67 percent disapproval in January 1952," said Keating Holland, CNN's polling director.

It would mean a hell of a lot more to me if he ever acted like he gave a good Goddamn.

he cannot be "unpopular" if everyone keeps talking about him. "unpopular" means nobody cares enough to even mention your name. he's actually quite popular i'd say, perhaps even infamous?

A new poll suggests that President Bush is the most unpopular president
in modern American history.

Not the one any President would prefer but I guess you could consider it an
"accomplishment" of sorts.

Nanc

Obvious but what the hey...

unpopular
viewed or received unfavorably by the public

www.merriam-webster.com

Nanc, your little semantic point suggests a level of denial which is laughable.

Are you telling us that until we stop talking about how much America dislikes W, that he wont be considered, in your opinion, unpopular?

Would you prefer the phrase 'most broadly disliked?'

Point is, he has the distinction of being the most reviled president in the history of the nation.

Does that say it better?

Don't blame me, I voted for the better man--TWICE.

Ah ,the weekly worst President ever thread. I'm sure glad Rcade got the DR back up and running in time to sneak it in this week.

I'd like to take a moment to congratulate the people who made this possible -- the Supreme Court and the voters who chose Bush in 2000 and 2004. I didn't think it was possible to put someone in the White House who'd be worse than Nixon. I stand corrected.

"unpopular" means nobody cares enough to even mention your name.

Well, that's a new definition.
A poor one, but new.

SAM

Don't blame me, I voted for the better man--TWICE.

Me too. But then it turned out that I actually voted for whoever Diebold said I did.

......I wonder how he would fare in the "most incompetent" category.......

......sort of like a "Being There" come true.....

Imagine.

Al Gore. John Kerry.

Neither could defeat Bush - decisively.

So, here you have Bush, with the worst ratings that can be created - and what choices do we have this year?

John McCain who wasn't even thought of going into Iowa. All the contenders that started the battle are out (excluding Ron Paul, I think he's still at it.)

But, to present a better candidate than Gore and Kerry, we are presented Hillary and Obama.

If you had a choice between Gore/Kerry and Hillary/Obama - which would you choose?

Instead of a better candidate - did we go worse?
This was to be the year, 2008, that the D's take everything in the elections.

I think Hannity was wrong. He said the Republicans are their own worse enemy. They have the capacity to lose the election all by themselves. He doesn't lay that claim on Democrats.

These parties have found the capacity to defeat from within.

So what is wrong with the other 29%? Are they living under a rock?

No you idiot. They are the top income earners.

Look; a very strong, viable candidate (who had a strong lead at the time) was completely dismissed by the American populous because of one, and only one incident:

They though the way he yelled "yeah" sounded funny.

If this is the sort of criteria that the majority of us use to select our leaders, then, uh, well.....

(sigh)

In 1999, my first thought was, "No way Americans would vote for this lamebrain"

My second thought was "They think they're supporting his father."

They heard him "speak" and still voted for him. Then reelected him.

And still 29% hold him blameless and say, "It's all Clinton's fault."

Jesus wept.

"They are the top income earners."

Translation: Maybe they don't support Bush, just their 60% tax rate slash on dividends.

Dear Hunting for Jesus

It always blew my mind that Dean was shot down by such a random incident. The priorities of American voters are just about as FUBAR as they can possibly be.

Ah, the congressional deflection. Nice.

Did you catch Lewis Black on Larry King?
He said pretty much the same thing.

"MOST UNPOPULAR CONGRESS EVER"

As if people consider things like that.

Quick: Which was the 3rd most unpopular Congress?

See?

Fredo

Since the Senate is pretty much a 50-50 tie, I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Is it to let us know you're in the 29% on one side and in the 78% on the other?

Ah yes another lovely liberal rewrite of history....

Because you seem so out of touch with what your own candidates think and feel, let me reimnd you how Howard Dean blew it....

He said that he "hates Republicans," that conservatives are "evil," that Republicans "never made an honest living in their lives," and that the GOP is "pretty much a white, Christian party." And then at a gathering of black Democrats Dean commented that the Republicans couldn't "get this many people of color in a single room" unless they included "the hotel staff."

Yeah, some piece of work, your hero Dean.

From Thomas Ward's 1688 poem "England's Reformation", Ward wrote, "Where to elect there is but one, / 'Tis Hobson's choice--take that, or none."

Looks like Nader again.

-sigh-

"unpopular" also is attributed to something commonly distasteful.. like leeches. Everyone has awareness of their medical uses, but they are not employed because they are a parasitic organism.

They though the way he yelled "yeah" sounded funny.

It just shows how much slack Obammy is getting during this election.

This is big news??!!

Does this come as a surprise to anybody???

No.

The one getting the slack is McCain. For now. The media just can't get enough of the accidental hero.

"He said that he "hates Republicans," that conservatives are "evil," that Republicans "never made an honest living in their lives," and that the GOP is "pretty much a white, Christian party." And then at a gathering of black Democrats Dean commented that the Republicans couldn't "get this many people of color in a single room" unless they included "the hotel staff."

I like a man who tells it like it is. The only thing he left out is the stupid folks who vote Republican but who really don't benefit at all from Republican policies.

Is there really anything NEW to be said about this subject?
I think this is the 3rd. time in as many weeks this has been discussed.

YEAH!

And it hasn't Even Been Fifty Years Yet!

I wonder what, using your own definition, Makes Carter out to be in Bush World circles ------------ "Legendary"?

Stupidity from Howard Dean- Pre and during 2004
(thanks Wikiquote ):

"No doctor is going to do an abortion on a live fetus. That doesn't happen. Doctors don't do that. If they do, they'll get their license pulled, as well they should." -- Howard Dean during a teleconference with reporters on January 15, 2004

"I'm a Metrosexual" [1][2]

"I don't know. There are many theories about it. The most interesting theory that I've heard so far, which is nothing more than a theory, I can't--think it can't be proved, is that he was warned ahead of time by the Saudis. Now, who knows what the real situation is, but the trouble is that by suppressing that kind of information, you lead to those kinds of theories, whether they have any truth to them or not, and then eventually they get repeated as fact. So I think the president is taking a great risk by suppressing the clear, the key information that needs to go to the Kean commission." -- Howard Dean describing a theory held by some that President George W. Bush knew about the 9-11 attack coming to America. [19]

"We don't know that yet. We don't know that yet, Wolf. We still have a country whose city is mostly without electricity. We have tumultuous occasions in the south where there is no clear governance. We have a major city without clear governance." -- Howard Dean's reply to CNN's Wolf Blitzer, when asked if Iraq was better off without Saddam Hussein, April 23, 2003.
In January 2004, Dean named the Book of Job as his favorite New Testament book.

"From a religious point of view, if God had thought homosexuality is a sin, he would not have created gay people." [20]

RCADE: You forgot kudos to the Naderites, especially those in Florida. But I an't believe "the surge is working" is the new "Mission Accomplished".

here's a direct cut and paste from Wikiquote.
funny as shit -
"Not only are we going to New Hampshire. We're going to South Carolina and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and we're going to California and Texas and New York. And we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan. And then we're going to Washington, D.C. to take back the White House. BYAHHHHHHHHHH!"

That begs the question: Is the country worse off with a lazy dunce in the White House than it was with a smart, paranoid crook? I don't think it is an easy answer. Nixon, for his part, wasn't incompetent. So, I suppose Bush is "worse."

You, however, are quite entertaining, Wisgod

Yes HELLOOO?!?! Congress- including most of the Dems- authorized the Iraq War, numbnuts.

You are too, Fredo.

Mentally ill, but entertaining.

"Yes HELLOOO?!?!"

Well, that isn't exactly true. They authorized the president to use force but he was supposed to return to Congress before invading Iraq. Also, the Congress voted based on the information they were provided which, we all know now, was a bunch of lies. Thus we get "Bush lied us into a war."

CARTER = WORST PRESIDENT EVER.

when you look at the track record, and not the "popularity" level.

GWB could not possibly stand a chance to look good based on a "popularity" vote as it has been a mainstay of liberal culture in this country to viciously and groundlessly personally despise him, from day 1, for the last 10 years

well I am sure that all of you have been sitting patiently but excitingly for my take on this, so here I am and here it goes.......

first of all this thread has it all and could be used as a liberals suck primer.

okay class, lets begin.......

It would mean a hell of a lot more to me if he ever acted like he gave a good Goddamn.

but you see, this is a texan thing. its not that we dont give a goddamn...its that we dont give a goddamn WHAT YOU AND LIBERALS THINK.....its a significant difference.

look through the thread and you will see pontificating, sanctamoney, FEAR, SORROW in not getting their way with media and bush v gore....and a mryiad of other related issues.
BUT it has to come to the real point behind all of the ranting with our gal pap MS DANNI will her post of 9:40 today......even after all of the obilgatory comments about IQ of conservatives she hits the liberal nail on the head with her and majority liberal opinion on how to solve their so called problem and it comes out pretty simply.....
conservatives should be denied their right to vote. its really simple...if we on the right dont agree to what ever the left says....just dont let them vote....
and there you have it class....and, now as always, lets see what we learned today and why its important.....

liberals suck and the irony.....democrats are the LEAST democratic people in the country.

wow this guy Danni can really spin ....

Well, that isn't exactly true. They authorized the president to use force but he was supposed to return to Congress before invading Iraq.

nice half-assed Clintonion "nuance" argument by the Dems, if that is truly what they think

Also, the Congress voted based on the information they were provided which, we all know now, was a bunch of lies. Thus we get "Bush lied us into a war
No lies. prove it. Prove that lies were told. you know what a "lie" is right? in fact , most of your Dem Congresspeople still say they made the best jusdegment based on the info at the time, same as GWB did. Congress did not have GWB as its only source of info to make this judgement.

anyhow, end of the day, Dems said "go to war" and I was responding to salaryman's claim that we were not at war. So dude, try not to just jump in and attempt to disagree and shoot down stuff out of context

even after all of the obilgatory comments about IQ of conservatives

BL2

Not so much as the IQ of Texans. Was that your nephew with the check?

and let me ask this question...

so 71% of the people hate him and that makes him the most unpopular pres ever...okay I get that.
but if you look at the precentage of people who do approve its 28% which is NOT THE LOWEST number among presidents........
so doesnt this mean that maybe in order to do all this once again that all people did is use the other number........
would one of you liberal brainiacs explain this to me.....please.since you know that its hard for us stupid rednecks bastards to think in any sort of coherent thoughts......you know.....stoopid sonsabitches from the south....

How bad a president has Bush been? I think an argument could be seriously made that a monkey flipping a coin to make decisions would have done as well as he has.

And, you know what? At the end of eight years everyone would still love the monkey.

Are Americans so stupid that it took them seven years to reach this conclusion or are our elections just rigged?

how many years did it take for the towelheads to plan out and set up 9-11?

he was required to enforce UN resolutions

no un resolution approved invasion

Iraq posed NO threat in March 2003, this was a documented fact.

Bush KNEW he was doing something that congress did not authorize

NO MATTER WHAT he would call for the vote on the second UN resolution authorizing the invasionof Iraq

he did not call for that vote

just how much were we to allow the un to say in something that at the time we thought to be a severe national security issue?

thank you for your reasoned response.

how many times were we supposed to go to the un....

I know lets ask georgie peorgie puddin pie

Q.Thank you, Mr. President. As you said, the Security Council faces a vote next week on a resolution implicitly authorizing an attack on Iraq. Will you call for a vote on that resolution, even if you aren't sure you have the vote?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, first, I don't think -- it basically says that he's in defiance of 1441. That's what the resolution says. And it's hard to believe anybody is saying he isn't in defiance of 1441, because 1441 said he must disarm. And, yes, we'll call for a vote.

Q No matter what?

THE PRESIDENT: No matter what the whip count is, we're calling for the vote. We want to see people stand up and say what their opinion is about Saddam Hussein and the utility of the United Nations Security Council. And so, you bet. It's time for people to show their cards, to let the world know where they stand when it comes to Saddam.

clearly bush thought that at least one more vote, one more time to the UN to prevent a war of agression would be appropriate. NO MATTER WHAT

well a MATTER WHAT seems to have gotten in the way of his going to the UN.

you ask:
what else was going on in iraq?

answer, NOTHING. Inspectors told us so.

then you ask:

just how much were we to allow the un to say in something that at the time we thought to be a severe national security issue?

As much as the constitution, our treaty obligations and the congress require. cause all three of those required bush to go throughthe UN, which he KNEW he had to (he drafted that 2nd resolution authorizing force), he said NO MATTER WHAT he would call a vote on and guess what he didnt.

The one thing this administration lacks is a sense of shame.

I think Bush had the ability to be 3+ GPA student but he was satisfied with a C because to him it didn't matter. He's never done his homework, and he's always had a sense of entitlement.

As it has been said, The Smile may be Phony, but the Smirk is for Real.

He's above all others, and I'm sure his response to the negative impression would echo the words of Dick Cheney: "Sooooo?"

All i need is the Chief, (and maybe Cheswick) backin' me up and we will kick ass all the way to Pennsylvania ave!!!!!!!

Is that like a conservative noose?

So what is wrong with the other 29%? Are they living under a rock?

A deceptive percentage... something like 65% of Republicans are still cheering for their little hero.

The % of Repubs will continue to shrink, a lot of them hiding behind the "Independent" disguise.

Is anyone surprised the CNN poll mentions nothing about the approval rating and gas prices? At least the Gallup suggests the trend. Not to mention it does not agree with this poll. I can't figure out why it became a thread, seeing as 70% of posts already point out they feel about Bush. If gas prices go down a buck in the next couple of months, there is no doubt these same fickle people polled would do a complete reverse.

Hey if Obama's pastor means that Obama is evil then what does it mean when Hillary's long time friend says stuff like this: www.youtube.com

She has known him for 30+ years. She "has" to know he held these views.

Can You imagine what it's gonna be like in 20 30 40 Years for the sad fucks that voted for Dubya?? They are going to do their damnedest to try and forget all about Dubya. Bush's Conspiracy to Create an American Police State: Part I, Police States Begin With False Flag Attacks

Nothing appears more surprising to those who consider human affairs with a philosophical eye than the easiness with which the many are governed by the few, and the implicit submission with which men resign their own sentiments and passions to those of their rulers.

Bani I am going to assume you are not from the United States. Because, only one who is completely unfamiliar with living in true democratic society would postulate that Bush could employ Hitler methodology over here in the USA, and that this could get a foothold and turn our great free country into a fascist state.

Either you are THAT ignorant about the United States, for which you can be forgiven,

Or you are trying to be insulting, and in this case it takes more than a little man like you on a message board to bug me, for one.

Crispy and BLT. Two monickers reflecting an obsession with pigmeat. Or maybe that's pygmy. Their IQs. And now comes "Fredo," trying to put lipstick on the Bush pig. Let me second the posters who display amazement that ANYone can still stomach Bush. herm

Not that BLT or Fredo need someone like me to defend themselves against the likes of you... But I find it ironic you post some crap about IQ and I post factual data from entities much smarter and with many times the recources as you. Where does that put you in the realm of things??? Other than a left wing sheeple of course.

Well,

He certainly won't get much of the Islamofascists' vote!

I find it difficult to believe that Bush is worse than that Nit Wit Carter. Something is flaud in this survey.

"Something is flaud(sic)"

Indeed.

Typical bird brain argument "well Congress rating is even lower," listen dickheads 97% of Congress will get re-elected in 2008, this fucking idiot that you on the right call President couldn't get elected DOG CATCHER, well maybe in Crawford, Texas.

"Wouldn't it be simpler to ignore than try and create flaws in posts?"

I was just commenting on the liklihood of the "fix" for Bush's popularity you were talking about....not that it would necessarily change things because he would still have the war and the economy to be blamed for.

What part of energy gouging; deficits as far as the eye can see; NAFTA outsourcing; mass illegal ....... blah, blah, blah

Pointing out that Danni is an idiot (or you for that matter) is not a defense of Bush. It's merely reminding her to flip her calendar and get a new word to put in every post.

Bush has certainly EARNED this ranking.

Celisary,

Only, he got elected as many times as is humanely possible over the Democrats best options.....Hmmmm.....Really, I think dog-catcher wouldn't be something he'd want....Gore might be interested in dog-cather, though, once this global warming myth blows over!

www.kawther.info

What is so ironical is that the Democrats have screwed up their nominees so bad that if Bush COULD run again he would probably beat either of them in the upcoming election.

" Bush COULD ... probably beat either of them in the upcoming election."

Giving whole new meaning to the "love it or leave it" that the righties here toss about with such abandon. Not so, of course, and the Dems WILL unite well before November ... but would anyone really want to stay and "live" in such a country? herm

I just love it when pretensions of intellectual superiority emanate from the Unwashed Right - totally illiterate, grammatic atrocities with never a fact to stand on... herm

Those of you idiots on the right don't even know that you are the Lunatic fringe that commentators talk about. If 71% of the American people don't think he is competently doing his job, how much of that 71% do you think are Republicians, hell we don't have that many Democrats.

Yes that is the secret ASSHOLES, those are Republicians with brains in that 71%. You are the Luynatic fringe , trust us you are!

Had this Country listened to Jimmy Carter in 1976, when he warned that our dependency on foreign oil was going to put us is a bind, just maybe we wouldn't have had to gone to War for Oil. Not to mention he was the President that got Israel and Egypt to sign a peace treaty that is still working till today.

Just for those things alone he is miles ahead of this Dick as worst President ever!!!

Lets us all celebrate this event by opening a can of the "New" Coke Cola. Why not, that stuff had if anything a lower approval rating the Shrubie. It just isn't very easy to come up with anything that is that universally disliked.

One of the best books I have read in years.

"Deer hunting with Jesus" this is.

It's refreshing to find something Bush didn't lie, misstate or exaggerate. After all, he did say:

"I'm the Uniter, not the Divider"

He ranks as my least fav Republican Prez...that's still better than any Dem prez.

Bill Clinton has taken dumps that would make a better President than Chimpy.

Slick Willie is your hero, ain't he, Son? Damned!

OK Vernon, tell us just what you disagree with about Celisary's comments concerning Jimmy Carter. Apparently you think our dependence on foreign oil was and is a good thing. BTW, it was good old Ronnie RAygun (may he burn in hell) who canceled Carter's energy program so that we could encourage Americans to buy gas hogs and use as much foreign oil as possible. Yet the right still idolizes that clown who's administration committed serious crimes for which he should have been impeached.

Sorry Danni but Carter is the one who started it all and the decline continues from there.

Carter started the deregulation and the removing the social safety net and retire/pension plans.

The deregulation started it all from oil to labor.

"Carter is the one who started it all and the decline continues from there"

Help! Vista enhancement and perspective broadening needed.

Carter started the deregulation and the removing the social safety net and retire/pension plans.

How does that explain the coming bankruptcy of Social Security and Medicare?

Despite it all, all of W's friends are either laughing all the way to the bank, or hanging their head in shame on the way to jail.

Ah, let me revisit that -- Ken Lay was on his way to jail, when he appealed and then died, leaving an estate worth billions to his heirs; Scooter Libby (Cheney's better buddy) is waiting for a pardon, and collecting millions for his appeal fund; MOF winner George Tenet is writing books that are garnering him hundreds of thousands in royalties. And all of the former viceroys of Iraq are raking in the dough. So in reality noone in the current administration is suffering for their errors. Virtually all have reaped huge dividends for their loyalty to Bush Cheney. It is only the disloyal ones who are ostracized and looking longingly out the window at their fairly well enriched compadres who stayed loyal to the conductor as he raced from one train wreck to another.

Geez, when it comes to Carter, where do we start? He was easily the most fucked up president in history, and he has been a boil on the ass of the nation since 1980 ....

Deregulating energy, and then choking the nation with the 'Windfall Profits Tax" plus blocking off the most promising domestic sources of natural gas and oil?

Was it the limp dick response to Iran that has encouraged Islamic terrorism for the last 30 years?

Was it the "malaise" speech? Blaming Americans for refusing to worship at Carter's altar?

The Misery Index?

"Inflation is our friend"? Who wouldn't like a $500 suit?

Maybe it was how Carter manipulated Clinton and propped up the NorKors? How many millions have starved to death thanks to Jimmy?

No, I think it's how Carter took credit for the Israel-Egypt peace treaty, even though the deal was already worked out by the king of Morocco. All they needed was for the US to vomit billions in foreign aid to both sides. We're still paying for that.

And then he whined for 25 years until he got a Nobel, just to make him STFU.

But hey, Danni, don't let historic facts get in the way of your illusions. It's easier to screech about Raygun.

Vern

You are not entirely accurate about Carter. As I remember, he did not deregulate energy. He tried to regulate energy with rationing and subsidizing the Synfuel fiasco. It was Reagan who restored normalcy by deregulating the price controls on oil and natural gas.

Carter did not encourage Islamic terrorism. That began with the US's installation and support of the hated Shah. The hostage crises he inherited and bungled was a result, not a cause.

He did make the inflationary recession worse by trying to inflate out of it with the appointment of Fed chairman Miller. But to be truthful he inherited that too from the spending of the Vietnam era. Reagan wisely appointed Volker who raised interest rates, bringing inflation under control. Reagan had the benefit of a recovering economy behind him.

Notice how Bernanke and company is lowering interest rates and Bush's massive deficits. Your buddy Bush is making a worse mess than Carter was capable. We are just beginning to feel the effects.

Carter was certainly incompetent, but is isn't fair to blame him for what he inherited. His only positive is that he didn't get us unto another war. No post-WWII president can make that claim.

Jimmy Carter was not the greatest president of the 20th century. FDR and JFK come to mind there. But he towered well above Bush 2, Reagan and Nixon. Jimmy Carter was a well-meaning Christian - this seems to be what counts most to some people - in a bit over his head. Carter did the best he could; was the Iranian hostage bit staged by the Reagan folks? He has been a bright, shining hero as an EX-president. herm

Ray,

Thanks for your thoughtful reply -- a rarity here.

I believe that Carter is responsible for much of global terrorism today. If he had given Iran a muscular response in 1979 -- Army Rangers dropped into the embassy -- Muslims today would not have the idea that America is a paper tiger.

How many Americans have died since 1979 because terrorists thought we were weak?

Since he left office Carter has coddled terrorists from Castro to Kim to Hamas. How many Cubans and Koreans and Palestinians are dead because of his meddling?

When we do the body count, I think Carter comes out on top. Not to mention his self-righteous and sactimoneous attitude

I noticed nobody has disagreed that Bush would beat either of the 2 democrats if he could run in the upcoming election. This was supposed to be the year the "D" would take the Oval office. Out of all of the qualified Democrats why in the Hell are these the final choices?

bush couldn't beat anyone w/o Premier Services:>)LOL

No one has disagreed because the assertion is asinine.

For fucks sake, Bushtard would lose in a landslide to Roger Clinton.

"Out of all of the qualified Democrats why in the Hell are these the final choices?"

Let's look at that, Doc P. You had your choices. Yes, I'd have preferrred Dennis Kucinich or Mike Gravel, Tom Harkin or Russ Feingold, Al Gore or John Edwards. You got what you got because everyone seems to prefer a wimpy centrist even if, as Jim Hightower said, the only thing in the middle of the road is dead armadillos and a yellow stripe.
