After watching him speak it is hard to imagine how anyone could consider him to be anything except an inspiration. Different not deficient. If someone wants to make a case that he is a hater please first identify the minority which proves your opinion.

I've watched the speech twice now. It was excellent. Entertaining and a great window into his perspective. I found it useful, too. He rationally challenged me on some things I wasn't quite conscious.

BTW, those were some great moments for "Rick Sanchez and Soledad Obrien. They took the object of talking points and revealed the talented human being. They should be proud, I enjoyed that speech. Rev. Wright certainly proved to those critics open to the truth that he is a thoughtful, sincere, fair minded man who cares deeply about his fellow church members as well as his fellow Americans.

Wright was very entertaining but so much of what he talked about was sound and fury signifying very little. Wright's "cultural relativism" is precisely what's wrong with the far left. The issue is not with "Arabic speakers". Daniel Pipes - is fluent in Arabic. He is not a Muslim. But Pipes correctly notes that "... if it is true that most Muslims are not Islamist, it is no less true that all Islamists are Muslims.". And no the NOL - Nation of Islam is not a benign freedom loving organization. It is a militant strain of Islam - Elijah Mohammed - a.k.a. Elija Pool - and the Nation of Islam and the Black Muslim movement. It is clear that radical Islamists have used these demagogues and their ilk to their advantage. It is important for Black and White and all Americans to understand this phenomenon and realize that NOL and the Black Muslim movement is not just a reaction to racism. As Al-Amin commented in his book Revolution by the Book " ... the Constitution of the United States..its main essence it is diametrically opposed to what Allah has commanded". This is a statement of sedition. These people want to take away your constitution and replace it with the Qur'an.

The dismissal of great Western musicians - Beethoven, Mozart - and the discussion of African rhythmic differences and it being musically and culturally equivalent - is absurd. There is a primitive charm to the rhythms of African drums - but no - it is not as sophisticated or as great a human achievement as Mozart. Modern Jazz with a strong African American influence is a great achievement and I will leave that up to music historians and future scholars to make that call whether 20th/21st Century Jazz ranks with the great works of European Classical composers.

Wright managed to not only mock he Irish - with a special barb for Bill O'Reilly - But his best barbs were for fellow democrats John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. Again he missed the real issue. The real problem is that bad grammar does not equate with regional accents. The fact that there are regional dialects associated with Texas and Massachusetts is not the same as uneducated Black children who do not use correct grammar.

Wright will guarantee that Obama will not be our next President. Yes, race will matter in this election. Not because whites will not vote for a Black man. Iowa and Nebraska proved that this is not the case. Obama will not win because of his long term association with an extreme, anti-semetic, racist preacher - who happens to be black.

And the US is very much ready for either a Black man or woman to be president. But my guess is that when that happens they will look more like a Maggie Thatcher, Golda Meir, or Shelby Steele who said: "...victimization ... it keeps us from understanding the true nature of our suffering. It leads us to believe that all suffering is victimization and that all relief comes from the guilty good-heartedness of others. I think that Rev. Wright's effect on the election depends on how much credence liberals and moderates give the corporate owned, sound bite news media. However, CNN should be congratulated for airing Rev. Wright's speech and Rick Sanchez (who has always been sort of a joke here in S. Florida) actually seemed to have become an intelligent, mature person with a fair mind. I actually was quite surprised by his performance.
Soledad on the other hand was more interested in hearing herself talk though she did, at least, not fall into lockstep with the conservative pundits and newscasters who have been trying to sink Obama's campaign with Rev. Wright sound bites dishonestly taken out of context.

Actually BLT's attempt at bringing JFK into the discussion could be a valid comparison when you consider that one of the major controversies JFK had to deal with was the accusations by some that the Pope would dictate to him how to govern. He made it clear that, though he was a Catholic, his leadership of the country would not be an expression of his religious beliefs. If that election were held today I can almost see the sound bite attacks by the Republicans which would have been leveled at JFK.

2. Conservatives are always saying that governmnet should stay out and the the private sectore and churches can do a better job at fighting poverty and other social issues. Well, isn't that what Wright's church is doing? Conservatives should be praising that church for their work in many areas, such as AIDS minstries, prison miniestris, helping people go to college, etc. No government here, just people voluntarily giving money and the church using it. Isn't that what the religious right wants? Why then are they criticizing Wright so much, bunch of idiots.

Jer gets up and says that his church raises $5,000 a year to feed those in his community. Imus raises and donates more that $15 million a year to help kids with cancer, but you never heard him defend himself with those good deeds. If the good deeds of Jer outweigh his recist words, Imus should be considered the second coming of Mother Theresa. If Obama applied the same standard to Imus that he has to Wright (saying that he has said some questionable things, but defending him because all of his community works make it ok) I do not think as many people would be concerned about this.

I want to clarify that what Imus said was wrong, but by the standard applied to Wright, Imus should be given the key to the city. It's all about the double standard.

Rev. Wright, to the best of my knowledge, never said the US Government invented AIDS. What I have heard him say is that the US government has used AIDS to control minorities.

My point about Tuskeegee is not to prove the Government behind AIDS but does go to set precedent for why people may be skeptical of the motives of US government.

And even if he does believe the US Government created HIV in a lab somewhere, as ridiculous as that notion sounds, that isn't out of line with a sizable section of the black community.

Oregon State did a study a few years back of black respondents in which more than 25% said they believed just that. Over half said they believed a cure for AIDS exists but the US government is withholding it.

There has also been some "experts" who have published on this matter such as Dr. Alan Cantwell. What I see is a reaction that is similar to the group of people who deny Modern Synthesis theory of that human activity impacts global climate. In the face of a mountain of evidence there are those who still point to the opinions and findings of a group of dissenting voices.

Now the last time I checked Pastor's have a long history of taking creative liberties with their messages and crafting their sermon's to their audience. When it comes to HIV this is hardly anything new. Wasn't it Jerry Falwell who called AIDS a punishment from God for America's immoral behavior. If Falwell is correct isn't he essentially saying it's a damnation of America from God?

I watched a good portion of this speech, and it was very well done. He did a superb job of reading the speech that Obama's writers put together for him; and his ability to conceal his hatred for whitey inside a perfect made-for-TV presentation is commendable. However, what he says now that he knows the whole country is watching means nothing. It's bland, safe language for the white soccer moms so they won't flee Obama, and a disingenuous attempt to try and repair the obvious damage he has done to Obama's campaign. What Wright said in his real sermons, when he did not think we were watching, when Obama was sitting there nodding his head, that is what he is really about.
