French Resistance?

You mean the "French Insurgency" don't you?

(Sorry, couldna Resist)

As a fighter for Freedom and a foe of Torture, Germaine Tillion has earned Spud's respect and gratitude and hopefully htat of much of the world.

100 years on earth is an excellent kick at the cat.

"Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come"

RIP Germaine Tillion.

Be Well.

Whatever became of his French Army issued white flag?

It became a Volkswagen polisher.

Germaine is a woman.

Someone upheld French "honor."

Allons enfants de la patrie, le jour de gloire est arrive, er, passe.

France recovered from the German occupation, but now it is confronted by the Islamic occupation and transformation. Does a country, which lets automobile burning by Islamics become a national weekend sport, have sufficient "cojones" to repel the resurgent Islamics this time around. Where is Charles Martel? Oops, he's history. Will a leader arise from among the effete overintellectualized French to enable them to successfully resist this wave of invaders?

French Resistance members were people who felated their Nazi masters but refused to swallos.

Unlike today's Republicans, who swallow Bush's ejaculate on a regular basis.

That was freakin' hilarious....when I was 12.
Then I read some history books.

You should read a book or two before firing off this stuff that makes you look like an idiot.

The French resistance were instrumental in the US victory in Europe. They were also the reason we got ashore on d-day and they saved MANY a US serviceman's life. That means nothing to you?

Ah, why let the facts spoil a ridiculous stereotype? What are you, a commie pinko left wing traitor?

Unbelievable that the death of this true WORLD HERO, would be made fun of by the Right Wings Assholes on this blog. To think that these PIGS, consider Bush as a Hero, make me sick to my stomach.

Having read an article of the life of Germaine Tillison, many years ago, these clowns that see this as an opportunity to bash the French, should take some time an read about this outstanding woman, you may learn something about which you know nothing.

Of course these grammers school dropouts, that have made the Republician Party there home knows nothing about the second World War other than it was America an America alone that won that War. I mean if it wasn't for John Wayne we would all be speaking German today.

These fucking Morons have no knowledge of History, the contributions of the French underground during the War was something the whole World should know contributed to the end of the Nazi regime. It wasn't just America, but these Right Wing hacks just don't know or give a fuck, what a fucking disgrace, to even call these Bastards Americans make my skin crawl....

They were also the reason we got ashore on d-day and they saved MANY a US serviceman's life.

Oh really? Then why didnt they just free france? Why even bother with those bad americans anyway?

The French resistance were instrumental in the US victory in Europe. They were also the reason we got ashore on d-day and they saved MANY a US serviceman's life.

Show me a link to that second sentence.

Why, Boaz?

Simple: Lack of weaponry and insufficient numbers.

They helped pave the way, though, through guerrilla warfare (both urban and rural) and supplying Allied forces with intelligence.

Now, go munch down on some of those Freedom Fries and nice, tall glass of Ignorance.

By the way, check out General Comte de Rochambeau sometime. Ought to be a real eye-opening experience for you.

Doc,

I know enough about why the french lost their nation. They had sufficient troops and weaponry.

The french have always hated that the U.S. had to come save them. I will never understand why people hate it so much that the U.S. saved europe. You are one of those people, I can hear it in your post...

I'm curious of what his thoughts were pre-Nazi invasion. Was he the typical French wine drinker that didn't wanna get involved?...Was he pro-defense and saw through the failed politics of apathy that dominated his world at that time? Was he openly, and loudly critical of any move to prepare for his country's defense? Did he continue to turn his head from the repeated treaty violations by the Nazis?....or, was he a leading voice in French patriotism and opposed to their failed leadership that, like Chamberlain, were ultimately responsible for the deaths and loss of country that resulted? The resulting 'resistence' would not of been necessary had their been support for a strong hawk leader. The heck w/ resistence after....where was he before?

The deluded keep on slipping slipping slipping into the future.

The only thing the French resist is a bath.

For a portrait of an young mother in the French Resistance, see the film, POUMY, on the website of citizenfilm.org
(30 minutes), classroom edition available.

By the way....it's HER thoughts. Apparently she was out of country doing extensive anthro. studies in Algeria before the War. She professed to be not pro or anti communist, but anti-Hitler. Not much pre-war biography avail. in a quicky search.

Listening to the little voices in your head again, are you?

I don't have a problem with the US "saving" Europe, or the Russkies' role in that, or the Europeans fighting against Hitler when we didn't do anything in the way of "blood, sweat, and tears" to stop that maniac. What annoyes me is that some Americans, like you, Boaz, constantly yammer on about how "we" saved so-and-so. Naturally, "we" weren't there for them, on the ground, when it might've actually put a quick stop to Hitler but, hey, what the hell? Didn't bomb the rail lines to Auschwitz either but, hey, machts nichts, right?

You sound like one of those people who might actually believe the film "U-571" isn't really about a British triumph that took place on board U-110.

Give everyone their due, that's all that's asked of you. In your case, even that is obviously way too much.

"who denounced French torture in Algeria"

Kudos

To the French, a bath is torture.

"101CHAIRBORNE"...How do you breath with your head so far up your ASS. Are you an American citizen, an do you vote, if the answer is YES, people like you make me worry for my Country......

Just because you don't believe it and don't want to learn on your own doesn't mean I should do your homeowrk for you.

But in your case, I know you need the help.

The French Undeground/Resistance was responsible for rescuing many downed US Airmen and helping to smuggle them back to friendly forces.

It was also the French Undrground that mapped out most of the defenses for the allied invasion. They were passing intelligence along to the allies regarding the gun emplacements and troop levels on a daily basis for a year leading up to the invasion.

Now, run along and go read your history.

Wow, people who wet their beds because some morons 5000 miles away make threats are dumping on someone who faced torture and death on a daily basis for years. Yeah, you people really know how to generate sympathy for whatever cause you back.

How do you breath with your head so far up your ASS. Are you an American citizen, an do you vote, if the answer is YES, people like you make me worry for my Country......

I knew the french underground helped, but mapping out most of the invasion? I will believe it when you post a link....otherwise, you are talking out of your ass...

you deserve the medal, guess which one ;

Germaine Tillon was interned in Ravensbrck and freed in april 1945

I would like to see you in France during these times, if one german soldier was killed, the gestapo chose 3 french men au hazard, if it was a german officer, then 10 french men were shot. That's meens that the resistants had to be very precautionous for their actions and well disciplined.

At the time of overlanding there was an operational army of 240 000 armed resistants, not counting the underground infrastructures, that were more numerous.

for those who still think we were "surrender monkeys" :

France had only a few tanks and lot of horses against the panzer divisions, I don't talk of the Maginot line, that was a silliness of the old-fashioned Etat-Major, that De Gaulle, as a yound colonel tried to lecture : he wanted that France opted for modern arms, in a book that was published in the early thirties he advocated for tanks, and wasn't listened, but a german read his book and one of an english man. The Germans realised that modern army.
