I think you have a good shot at being correct. I doubt seriously that McCain could make it through a four year term, and might not even make it to the election. Every day is risky at his age, so whoever his runing mate turns out to be should be the one considered to really be the President by the end of McCains term if he should win.

Fortunately, he is behind in the national polls to both Clinton and Obama.

Neither have the light-weight independents, who will decide this election based on their own, short-term self-interest, as they always do. They'll break late for McCane because they don't want higher taxes and because Obomba will make 32 major mistakes between then and now, at least 3 of which they would have noticed.
