Barack Obama was greeted by the largest crowd of his campaign Friday night in Philadelphia. Some 35,000 people jammed into Independence Park to see the Democratic presidential candidate, four days before this state's crucial April 22 primary. Obama told the crowd the United States is at a crucial moment in its history, much like what the founding fathers faced in Philadelphia. "It was over 200 years ago that a group of patriots gathered in this city to do something that no one in the world believed they could do," Obama said. "After years of a government that didn't listen to them, or speak for them, or represent their hopes and their dreams, a few humble colonists came to Philadelphia to declare their independence from the tyranny of the British throne."

All those who keep saying that Obama's supporters don't amount to much continue to ignore just how much his candidacy has changed the face of American politics. Once this campaign is over, students of history and politics will study what we're living through for the next century because a man with a plan and vision has altered the way future Presidents will run their campaigns and has single-handedly proven that the force of an energized public can overcome even the most famous and powerful wielding their open checkbooks as crudgels against average citizens.

Even if one isn't for Obama, everyone should be gladdened over his success in mobilizing so many across this nation for the betterment of us all even if we disagree on the fine points.

And yes, we haven't seen him govern yet, but its hard to argue he could be worse than what we have seen in recent years already.

Is that more or less people than went to see the guy in the funny hat and dress in NYC? Was Faux News covering this rally and making comments about how wonderful it was?

And yes, we haven't seen him govern yet, but its hard to argue he could be worse than what we have seen in recent years already.

gosh, what could that be?

Authorities lose patience with collapsing dollar

Jean-Claude Juncker, the EU's 'Mr Euro', has given the clearest warning to date that the world authorities may take action to halt the collapse of the dollar and undercut commodity speculation by hedge funds.
Momentum traders have blithely ignored last week's accord by the G7 powers, which described "sharp fluctuations in major currencies" as a threat to economic and financial stability. The euro has surged to fresh records this week, touching $1.5982 against the dollar and 0.8098 against sterling yesterday.

www.telegraph.co.uk

"George Soros, the hedge fund baron who "broke" Europe's exchange system in the early 1990s, said yesterday that the euro could never anchor of the global system. "I don't think the euro can replace the dollar as the main world currency. The euro is not a truly attractive alternative," he said.

"Mr Soros said the dollar would reclaim its crown eventually, but for now the financial crisis is leading to a flight from all paper currencies, causing a dash for gold, silver, and oil futures."

All Obama has to do slow the free fall of the dollar & he's a success ~ it would seem:>)

Clearly, Obama is in trouble.

Those 35K don't count! They are delusional!

Strewth!

Just as the colonists threw off the shackles of a government that worked not for the people but against them it's now time fer a new revolution to throw off the shackles of the latest tyranny.

The American government somewhere along the way became the biatch of the special interests. Foreign Interests with too much money, the Israeli lobby, the MIC (as Ike warned folks to watch out for), Big Oil, Big Agra, Big Phrama etc etc ad nauseum.

Time to try and wean the system off of these sources and begin to clean up the open sewer pipe that is DC.

Electing McCain or Hillary is merely handing power back to the same forces that got ya'll here.

The opposite of populist is old guard.

People are instinctively beginning to recognise that to embrace the populism of Obama's candidacy is to reject the old guard of same old, same old, Big Biz as Usual politics.

'Bout Bloody Time sez Spud.

G08ama!

Be Well.

Clinton painted a gloomy picture to voters of the current state of the nation including an ongoing war in Iraq, an increasingly ominous relationship with China and the sagging economy here at home. ""We have got to realize that our future really depends on who the next president is, this is not a throw away election, this is one of the most important elections we"ve ever faced."

And thats why America can ill afford to have a two-faced, turncoat, corporatist liar as President when this nation's very existence stands at a tenuous crossroads. For someone that openly embraced sending our children to fight in a needless war and tacitly commended scores more because of refusing to join in a worldwide ban on clusterbombs, this is not the person I want deciding the most important decisions that a country has to face.

I tire of those always parroting that this nation "loses prestige" if it dare talk to an adversary without the adversary coming to us on bended knee with an apology on its lips. This nation's image of "prestige" is a far more disposable commodity than the life of one of our children that didn't need to be sacrificed.

Americans are coming together and seeing how the power-elite will do and say anything in whatever draconian method they deem necessary to hang onto their power. Its past time to cut them loose and to take on the real concerns of those of us living in the real world across this nation and not those in the corporate skyscrapers and inside the beltway of Washington.

Tony - nobody doubts that Obama's has more fanatics that Clinton. Clinton does have more total supporters (as evidenced by polls with her leading in PA and nationally according to the new Gallop Poll). Using your logic, I would say that the country is overwhelmingly against abortion as the anti-abortion rallies draw ten of thousands of supporters while pro-choice rallies are sparsely attended.

Obama has really, really solid support from ~25% of the country (~50% of the Dem base) with a large percentage of them being fanatical. Hill also has a base of ~25% of the country, but her supporters are more casual. However, at the end of the day, they both get just as many votes because a fanatic's votes count just the same as a casual supporter's vote.

Regardless, both are unelectable and will be crushed by 20%+ by McCain in the general so the only real question is who will take the blame when Obama or Clinton loses. I assume it will be Obama getting crushed in the general and his supporters will blame Clinton for asking questions about Wright, Rezko, and his flip-flops (gun rights) rather than themselves for making a dirty politician into their messiah...oh well...

Clinton does have more total supporters (as evidenced by polls with her leading in PA and nationally according to the new Gallop Poll).

Bullshit! Gallup is the only poll that has her ahead, and Newsweek has Obama up by 19 points! And you're ignoring all the support Obama received from caucus states because, like Hillary, those votes don't seem to count, do they?

Your math is about as good as your devining of the public's mood. McCain couldn't win the White House if he ran against himself, much less the most dynamic and energizing political face of this generation. The bottom line is that we'll know the truth in November. I'm happy to wait till then.
What about you?

"And you're ignoring all the support Obama received from caucus states because, like Hillary, those votes don't seem to count, do they?"

No, I am not ignoring anything as I was referring to the Gallup poll which has Hill in front nationally. Further, Clinton has consitently beat McCain in head to head match-ups vs. a loss for Obama - this is not one poll that we are talking about but pretty much every national poll which pits the Dems vs. McCain.

" McCain couldn't win the White House if he ran against himself"

Once again, you are choosing to ignore pretty much every national poll which pits the two head to head. Also, you are ignoring the cratering in Obama's approval rating - all of this before the Rezko trial gets really interesting. Just imagine what those negatives will be as Obama is caught in lie after lie on Rezko - and gasp - the media actually reports on it (the bastards)!

So, I guess it is safe to put you in the 'blame Hillary' camp after Obama's Nov ass kicking...

Jaque...

You're peddling yesterday's news, my friend. Obama's margins are greater than Hillary's in most key swing states, have you bothered watching anything this cycle? What happens when both candidates actually go into states and start campaigning? Hillary's numbers tank and Obama's rise. Remember PA was a 25+ Hillary lead less than 4 weeks ago, and what is it today?

Polls featuring hypotheticals are worthless as yesterday's weather forecast. I often wonder why they even bother. I guess it gives some of us things to talk about and nothing more.

You're worried about Rezko? Just what did Obama compromise from his duty to serve his constituency over him? Zip! Can the same be said about McCain and the Keating Five? What about his own PAC that funnels money to rightwing causes that has yet to be truly audited?

Everyone is grasping at straws because Obama has lived an open and public life without the usual scandals and scum attached to most politicians. Any comparison to either Hillary or McCain leaves Obama as a much cleaner individual. Most people have already come to this conclusion. Only those bent on hating him continue to hold the opposite. He's running for President, not for God. No one stands up to the standards being attached to Obama. America will judge him by his works in office, and as yet, nothing untoward can be found in his extensive 12-year political record, but good luck. I guess you enjoy the dirt.

Well, 35,000 is an impressive number. How many will attend the Daytona 500 this spring?

"America will judge him by his works in office, and as yet, nothing untoward can be found in his extensive 12-year political record"

Nothing if you don't count the $1M earmark he tried to push through to reward his wife's employer for her 300% raise...

Or the $300K+ he pocketed by buying his house under market value courtesy of Rezko...

By the way, where did Rezko get that money? Oh yeah, it was funneled by Iraqi billionare (and Saddam money man) Auchi as a $3.5M 'loan' to Rezko for a pizza parlor (or so says Rezko). Remember Auchi? Apparently Obama doesn't because he insists that he never met the man - which would be great if it was not refuted this week in sworn testimony for the Rezko trial....how many other Obama lies will be uncovered and why would Obama not want to admit his association with Auchi?

The media finally woke up...I bet that breaks your heart....

He's running for President, not for God.

Don't tell any of the Three Stooges that.

Big deal, they wheeled up 35 nursing home resdients for a McCane speech. ONly half turned their life support off. The other half asked, who's that crazy old fart?

Bill Clinton was supposed to be in Wilkes Barre today. If he was there were few people to greet him. One other point I want to make. With the primary on PA only three days away and with all of Pa at stake why is Bill and Hillary spending time in NE PA (Wilkes Barre Scranton) when if nothing else this area should be rock solid for them. I'm betting its not and for those who don't know the "Scranton Tribune" newspaper endorsed Obama. In fact every major paper in the state endorsed Obama.

Even Jesus dined with the sinners. At least that is what the bible says.

35K people!

The Pirates should considering getting Obama to speak before every game. It would triple their attendance.

Obama and the Washington establishment are part of the power-elite. The only candidate who ran against the elite was Ron Paul and they ignored and slandered him. Tony, you are seriously deluded.

"Or the $300K+ he pocketed by buying his house under market value "

He got the house for $300K under ASKING PRICE, not under market value. You do understand the difference, right?

But don't ever let that pesky old truth get in the way of a good lie that fits your agenda.

Chicago Trib. 9/27/06

Michelle Obama was promoted to vice president for external affairs in March 2005. According to a tax return released by the senator this week, the promotion nearly tripled her income from the hospitals from $121,910 in 2004 to $316,962 in 2005.

Hospitals spokesman John Easton said Obama's salary was in line with the compensation received by the not-for-profit medical center's 16 other vice presidents.

A tax return for the hospitals covering the 12 months ended June 30, 2005, shows most of the organization's vice presidents earning between $291,000 and $362,000...

..."There was a real initiative by the university and the hospitals to have a real relationship with the community," Easton said. "Over time, she developed a staff. . . . It went from zero staff to Michelle and 10 staff."

Michael Riordan, who was University of Chicago Hospitals president at the time, said he had planned early on for the position to evolve into a vice president's post as a way of showing the organization's commitment to community outreach.

"I knew where I wanted to go with this position," said Riordan, who now is the top executive of the Greenville Hospital System in South Carolina. "I wanted to identify someone to grow into it."

Riordan said Obama's promotion had nothing to do with her husband becoming a U.S. senator.

"She was hired before Barack was Barack," Riordan said. "She is worth her weight in gold, and she is just terrific."

Barack is the nations last free thinking man.

The rest of the running mates just take turns.

Gobama! 2008!

"Obama Requested $1 Million For Construction Of A New Hospital Pavilion At The University Of Chicago. In 2006, Obama requested that the University of Chicago receive $1 million to support its Construction of New Hospital Pavilion. For more than 75 years, the University of Chicago Hospitals (UCH) has provided state of the art medical care on the South Side of Chicago. UCH is one of the largest Medicaid providers in Illinois, and it provided more than $90 million in uncompensated care for Medicare and Medicaid patients this past year.

To continue providing the best care for patients from all walks of life, UCH is proceeding with the construction of a new 600,000 square foot facility that will ensure their ability to provide the best care for patients well into the future. Funding will go towards assisting the construction and equipping a new hospital pavilion that will increase the Hospitals' clinical capacity by over one-third."

Wow. Requesting $1 million to help a hospital increase their clinical capacity by 1/3. What a monster.

Health care reform. Take the greed out of doctors! Whoohooo! Impossible but there are some that still care?

Does one go into the medical field to help people or just make a lot of money?

Obama, the newbie on target in 2008.

Gobama!

Does one go into the medical field to help people or just make a lot of money?

What should it tell you when a job that pays $200k+percs costs millions to apply for?

"Well, 35,000 is an impressive number. How many will attend the Daytona 500 this spring?"

Possibly the most non-sequiter post you've posted, well, today, Chicharrone.

He's running attack commercials here in Pa. And he's pounding continously how our Pa economy is in shambles. What a flaming asshole. He will say anything to get elected, and I'm afraid the masses are taking this closet louis farrakan lover Horse Shit hook, line, and sinker...
