With three crucial Democratic primaries looming, Hillary Rodham Clinton may not be headed toward the blockbuster victories she needs to jump-start her presidential bid -- even in Pennsylvania, the state that was supposed to be her ace in the hole, a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll has found.

he survey found the New York senator leading Barack Obama by just 5 percentage points in Pennsylvania, which votes next Tuesday. Such a margin would not give her much of a boost in the battle for the party's nomination.

What is more, the poll found Clinton trails Obama by 5 points in Indiana, another Rust Belt state that should play to her strengths among blue-collar voters.

In North Carolina, an Obama stronghold, he is running 13 points ahead.

Not all good news.

The race remains volatile, however, because many likely voters in the Democratic primaries are still undecided -- 12% in Pennsylvania, 19% in Indiana and 17% in North Carolina.

California does count, only odds are that if even Joh Kerry were the nominee he'd carry California, let alone Obama or Clinton.

Went over Your head apparently.

Larry Mohr

No I get it Larry, only things Clinton wins 'counts'. But in reality you could run a horse (or horse faced guy) and the dems would take Cali.

barack seems to be the man

but isnt it so democratic to put up for a canidate with a name that rhymes with the one bastard who attacked us 7 years ago and with a middle name of the hussein, aint that typically democratic, to make things as hard on ourselves as possible.

"Indiana is a bum fuck red state"

sincerely

Corky McBegginstrips

Indiana is a farming state. Go 200 miles south and it turns red.

Go to the north and walk around and night and get mugged.

The reality is that Obama can win Indiana if he carries large margins in just three areas:

Indianapolis, Northwestern Indiana (Chicagoland), and Fort Wayne.

I live here, and this is what our local political scientists say.

You'd be surprised at the Obama signs in some of Indy's swankest neighborhoods.

Why surprised?

Don't they speak english in Indiana?

Nationally Obama's widend the lead to 11 points over Clinton.

McBush has to be a little worried. He's been getting a free ride in the media and Obama's been hit with everything from Rev. Wright to "bitter" and he's till tied with McBush nationally.
And Truth-Obama may rhyme with Osama, but McCain rhymes with insane, which is much closer to reality.

Hey All,

California is not a lock for Obama. Very large hispanic population and McCain is extremely popular with the centrist and don't forget the land south of LA! That is a population of about 8 million.

Denise

California is not a lock for Obama. Very large hispanic population and McCain is extremely popular with the centrist and don't forget the land south of LA! That is a population of about 8 million.

Do you think it would help if Obama picked Richardson as his running mate?

By the way, I think the whole "bitter" thing is bullshit. Hillary has really outdone herself. As far as the rhyming of Obama's name. I have to agree. When I watched him in 2004, my husband said "That guy should run for president" My response was the country would never vote for a black man with a name that rhymes with Ohsama (whatever the spelling). Maybe I was wrong....Stranger things have happened.

Denise

Hey Gal,
I have thought about this a lot lately. I know I am really boring. Richardson is a nice guy but respected? I don't know. I spent some time in New Mexico last summer and he was not thought of in the highest terms. I really liked the idea of Biden but, he said today that he told both candidates that he would not consider VP or Secretary of State.

Denise

Gal--Obama will not pick Richardson--he does not bring anything of sustance to the ticket. (Bringing maybe NM and 4 electoral votes does not cut it). He needs someone from a red state--a Dem Governor--or Hillary! ;^0

Besides Obama says he needs someone who knows a bunch of stuff--Richardson is not that person.

It won't matter--if he gets the Dem nomination--he will fail in the fall.

Murphy

Denise,

Yeah, I like Biden too. Didn't know he had declined those positions. Thanks for the update. As for Richardson, I'm not sure either. I like him well enough and thought he might be a good choice. Any ideas of who Obama should pick for VP if he gets the nomination? Please don't say Hillary; I think that is out of the question at this point.

He can't pick Hillary--there is not enough room in the WH for 3 presidents--right?

I wonder why Biden turned down the spots? I can understand the VP spot--but Sec of State--not too shabby.

Today McCain took Tom Ridge right off his list of VP contenders on Hardbaaaal.

Murphy

It won't matter--if he gets the Dem nomination--he will fail in the fall.

Hi Murhpy! Have you been chatting with Nancy's astrologer again? :-)

LOL--Hey Gal!

No bets--but predictions only!

He has to get the nomination first and Hillary is not going away.

This has been way too much fun!

Murphy

I will make a prediction. If Hillary steals this nomination, she will be destroyed by McCain. I for one will not vote for her. I have Zero respect for the Clintons. I don't understand why everyone has amnesia and has forgotten what an embarrassment the 90's where for democrats everywhere. Even though I don't agree with much that he says, I have a respect for McCain and would vote for him. As long as he doesn't put a crazy next to him as VP to get the conservative vote

As long as he doesn't put a crazy next to him as VP to get the conservative vote

Define crazy and give examples, please. Personally, I think he will pick someone like the governor of FL.

Gal,

There is a part of me that thinks Obama will pick Bloomberg. Bloomberg would help Obama in New York and Florida. I know that they have talked. I am also leaning towards a female VP. It could be the Governor of Kansas or more likely the Governor of Arizona. She would help with the hispanic vote. I really liked the idea of Biden. I am sure nothing is cast in stone anyway. I think the only way he picks Clinton is if someone strong arms him.

Denise

This civility is freakin' me out. Am I on the DR?

I think he will pick someone like the governor of FL.

Tonight he said that he will not even consider any Republican that isn't 100% anti-abortion. No gray. No matter how perfect that person is in every other area.

Denise,

Bloomberg would be an interesting choice. A unity ticket. I was thinking Obama should pick someone with foreign policy experience, but if the economy keeps going south, Bloomberg could be a good choice. But, as Murphy points out, first he has to win the nomination. I don't think it's a done deal yet.

Tonight he said that he will not even consider any Republican that isn't 100% anti-abortion. No gray. No matter how perfect that person is in every other area.

Hi Yav! Long time no see. So does that mean Crist is out? I'm not up on FL politics, but I'm sure you are.

Ok now I am going to sound like a moron. Isn't the Governor of Florida Jeb Bush? Or is his time up. Please say his time is up.

Is Crist the Governor of Florida? Nevermind I think I know the answer to that question.

Charlie Crist - Fl Gov.

:Hi Gal!

I don't know about Crist.

'When asked by a Roman Catholic Priest whether he would sign a bill like South Dakota's abortion ban, which only allows the procedure to save a woman's life, Crist quickly answered "Yes I would."

He later clarified that the South Dakota law, set to go into effect July 1, is too restrictive, and he would only sign a ban if it also allowed abortions for victims of rape and incest. Crist added, "Promoting a culture of life is preferable to me than passing laws."'

www.sptimes.com

I've said this for many, many months and lately seen it quite regularly from the pundit class. Obama's most natural choice for VP should be Jim Webb.

There is no one more populist than him, and his son has served in Iraq like McCain's. He's been a vocal critic of McCain on Iraq strategy because he's been an infantryman/leader, not a flyboy/hotshot that doesn't understand the ground game of war.

If not him, then Chuck Hagel, if the Party will let him choose him.

Bloomberg would be perfect if Obama wanted to leave the Democrats for having allowed Hillary to trash his brand without nary a peep, if he were to run as an independent. He'd pull all his black support, indy support, and youth support; Bloomberg would pull even more Republicans and Jews, and the Dems would be left with Hillary and an empty pantsuit.

Poor Tiger--he thinks he might have stepped into the Twilight Zone. lol

Yav --That's what the man said--

That makes Ridge out as he is pro-choice. Rudy is off too by that standard. And I don't see Romney on the list as he flipped flopped--the right direction, but why go with ff when you can get 100% pro life.

I think Pawltney (sp?) in MN is on the short list and Crist in FL.

Is the SC governor? --Sanborn or someone?

It's a total kowtow to the conservatives--but completely understandable and acceptable BTW.

Murphy

Obama/Webb would be an excellent ticket.

It's a total kowtow to the conservatives--but completely understandable and acceptable BTW.

For social conservatives, yes, but I don't think his stand will be very well received by independents and swing dems if the Supreme Court situation is brought into the limelight.

Chuck Hagel would be a solid choice. The guy loves the constitution and has been vocal on the ills of extreme partisanship. He would bring alot to the ticket.

Hi Tony,
Obama has made it clear that he would consider an independent and has talked to Bloomberg. He even convinced Bloomberg not to run as an independent. I personally think that Obama needs to have more executive experience as VP, I would prefer someone who is not in the Senate. Foreign policy experience can be added with a good choice for Secretary of State.

Here is a wild pick Colin Powell.

Denise

That's the only reason I won't vote Dem--it's all about the judges. Well--there are many other reasons--ok I won't be voting for a Dem this time around for POTUS.

They are both too liberal and awful "change" for the country.

You know when Obama said he needed a VP pick who knew a bunch of stuff--I thought he was referring to Bloomberg.

Murphy

For social conservatives, yes, but I don't think his stand will be very well received by independents and swing dems if the Supreme Court situation is brought into the limelight.

The SC and the Iraq war are the two biggest things that would prevent me from casting a vote for McCain. Is Huckabee on his list of VP candidates? That would be a big mistake I think.

WIth you on that 100%, Gal.

G'night everyone.

I think Webb already made his answer No to being on the ticket.

Hagel can't get to first base.

Colin Powell --although very well respected for his views on the current condition of Iraq--will be fried on the UN speech by the Dems--won't happen. It's hard enough for the country to think of a black man in the POTUS position--let alone Two black men!

And folks--the poly sci people say that the VP should bring a state that the Pres nominee cannot bring. And a state with lots of electoral votes.

Although Bush Cheney did not follow that two step.

It's a crap shoot!

Murphy

Yeah, night everyone. It's bedtime for us east coasters. Been fun talking with ya.

The Florida governor's nephew seems to have a lock on future political capmaigns....who wouldn't vote for.......Jesus Crist?

That's not really his name? Is it?

Murphy

Indiana doesn't count because the primaries and the general elections are different. That only applies if Obama wins, though.

-Corky

There is also the small matter of Governor Crist being said to be............gay

Where's Corky?

Another poll done 4/8 - 4/13 has Clinton up by 6 in PA.

media.philly.com

I love it. Obama for democrat nominee!! PLEASE!

Hillary was your only hope, now you choose suicide with obama.

Perfect.

Kuma

He's been a vocal critic of McCain on Iraq strategy because he's been an infantryman/leader, not a flyboy/hotshot that doesn't understand the ground game of war.

OOOOOHHHHHH TONY.......isnt there a flyboy in your family....ohhhhh IM telling.....lol

well I guess that indiana then is a state where most of the people think its okay if obama believes that they only turn to God and guns because they are having economic troubles and they all hate blacks and mexicans. if thats okay with them, then go right ahead and vote for him.

ok by me. redneck inbreds should be voting for republicans.

bushlover- How you got THAT from what Obama actually said is nothing short of an amazing display of brainwashing techniques.

How anyone could wash such a small thing and not lose it is the amazing part. Be proud of your masters skills.

people who dont look like them and immigration comment...thats liberaleze for hating niggers and mexicans......I know it, you know it and difference is we admit it.
god and guns comment.....rednecks with a gun rack who has faith in God......another liberal code word for anyone who doesnt vote lockstep with liberal agenda.
I know it, you know it....and the whole world knows more and more with every speech........
when it comes to this holy idea of his 'sainted' campaign.
HE IS A FRAUD.......

let me explain in first part....I know this is what he meant and you know this is what he meant and the whole world outside of the DR and air america knows what he meant......
and he can explain it away all he wants and it doesnt matter because rememeber WHERE he was when he made these insulting and demeaning comments.
IN SF getting money from rich democrat fatcats..
so in the least he can be called out for pandering to these 'elitist' buddies of his.

and I understand your problem admiiting this...and thats because you and many others here THINK THE VERY SAME FRIGGIN THING.........

I can't tell who is winning, I guess I will have to wait until 2009.

Yeah, night everyone. It's bedtime for us east coasters. Been fun talking with ya.

A few more surprise endorsements and we can wrap this up next tuesday.
Maybe this will help.

"When Louisiana Republican

Sen. David Vitter's Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006 came to the floor on July 13 of that year, Hillary Clinton was among a handful of senators voting against outlawing the disarming of innocent Americans during times of disaster.

In essence, with that single recorded vote, the leading candidate in her party's bid to take the White House voted to support the gun-ban mandate of the New Orleans police superintendent."

www.nraila.org

The first of five Democratic Indiana members of Congress has endorsed -- here's the press release:

U.S. Congressman Andre Carson today announced his support for Senator Barack Obama for president, citing Senator Obama's ability to unite the country and bring needed change for Hoosier families.

"I am proud to support Barack Obama for President because he represents the kind of bold leadership and change that our country desperately needs. I know Senator Obama, like me, is committed to ending the war in Iraq, bringing down gas prices, and creating good jobs here in Indiana, and he has the judgment and courage to solve these problems," Congressman Carson said. "Senator Obama is a fighter for working families, and part of a new generation of leadership that will bring needed change for our country and I am proud to endorse him for president."

www.huffingtonpost.com

Gobama!! 2008!

Hillary lies when her lips move.

Obama 2008!

I know that I only listen to rush or hannity and all.....If you read what libs here say anyway....but I came across two articles that tell it just like it is....
from the washington post and the buckleyesque george will....and all I have to do is write the headline for you to get the point
"obama's words reveal a condescending modern liberal"
and it is filled with just about everything I have tried to say here.

and believe it or not....MO DOWD keeps the pressure up on the democrats with her column from the Ny times....headline
"the messenger of hope has serious street cred problems"
and she slams the shit out of him and this after several columns of kicking the shit out of hillary....

I suggest these two be read in order to keep up with ME........
