The IRS estimates that 21% of federal individual income taxes go unpaid each year about $300 billion in 2007. USA Today hunted down some of the most famous people who never got around to paying their taxes, a list that includes former Clinton adviser Dick Morris, singer Dionne Warwick, O.J. Simpson and Catalina Vasquez Villalpando, the U.S. treasurer during the first Bush administration.

YEAH!

In a related story (no doubt the above story is supposed to occupy the Noise Machine while this hopefully goes unnoticed)

IRS cuts back on audits of large companies

"The IRS audit rate for the nation's large corporations last year dropped to 26%, down from a high of 72% in 1990 and the lowest level in two decades, a new analysis of the tax agency's data found. The analysis also showed a 33% decrease since 2002 in the number of in-depth examinations the IRS conducts on large firms with assets of $250 million or more. "

So as usual, Bush and his Team of "freedom" fighters puts the screws to people taking eggs while looking the other way when their friends steal all the hens!

I am Jacks complete lack of surprise.

And just how are they putting the screws to us? wha is the % of individuals being audited?

Neck,

What do you care, I doubt you pay taxes. You have to have a job to pay taxes. Wait, do the scum on welfare pay taxes?

My friend is disabled from a drunk driving accident when he was 18 and hasn't paid taxes in 20 years and I filled out his 1040a this year so he could get a stimulus payment.

Bring on the fair tax.

Noah,

Indeed.

Wouldn't a national sales tax fix this problem, as well as get illegal immigrants and foreign tourists to pay taxes as well?

...I see Noah is already on board.

Bring on the fair tax.

YEAH!

I agree that I was intrigued at first by the "Fair Tax" ---- that is up till I realized that Neil "Alzheimer" Boortz had a finger in it, and from previous personal experience with Boortz, decided that if he was involved then it had to be a poorly thought out, fly-by-night scam reminiscent of those Snake Oil Salesmen who sold Kerosene and called it "Miracle Medicine"!

You have to remember that this guy "Boortz" at the late age of his 60's realized for the first time that women who are ovulating spend more time preening! Something I discovered at Puberty and what the rest of the Animal Kingdom Knows instinctly!

A large number of the so-called delinquents aren't delinquents at all. Combine a large government bureaucracy with unlimited police powers and a penchant to hire people who can't make the cut in the private sector, and I don't trust the numbers the IRS puts out. Sorry.

I know personally over a dozen people who've been accused of not paying taxes, only to find out it was something like some retard writing down the wrong Social Security number, or putting somebody else's name on an audit file.

It's even happened to me. For the past five years I've gotten a tax notice from the State of Ohio, demanding estimated tax payments even though I lived there for only five months, ten years ago. Were I to find out that I showed up on some moron's database in Columbus as a tax cheat, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

A Prefect Narrative of the Bush Years! I wonder if they will work that somewhere into the Bush Library (i.e. Legacy)?

OJ Simpson is busy looking for the REAL tax cheats...

However, this example of Principled and Un Partisan Thought Doesn't Extend to the Warrant-less Wiretapping or any of the other "large government bureaucracy with unlimited police powers and a penchant to hire people who can't make the cut in the private sector" that We Repeatedly Claim is "Keeping You Safe"!

Neck, to much coffe this morning? Why are you always so angry? Has life not been good to you?

FAIR TAX Yeah....cuz working class people want to pay more tax so rich folks can pay less.

"Combine a large government bureaucracy with unlimited police powers and a penchant to hire people who can't make the cut in the private sector, and I don't trust the numbers the IRS puts out. Sorry."

Yeah, cuz none of us have ever been charged by private corporations for services not received and oh, they are so easy to deal with too.
We've had an ongoing dispute with AT&T over cell phone overcharges....finally got an agreement with them....they credited someone else's accout....then they demanded we pay the entire amount and let them later refund back to us the difference...
Corporations aren't the government but they are just as incompetent, just as hard to deal with and ten times greedier.

as well as get illegal immigrants

Ahhh another right wing myth.

www.signonsandiego.com

The immigrants have been able to file since 1996 when the IRS started issuing special tax numbers for people living and working illegally in this country. Experts say the 8 million to 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States contribute untold billions each year in payroll taxes.

Many said they had a new reason to report their taxes: a hope that some day the government will reward them with some form of immigration clemency, a hope highlighted by President Bush's proposed guest worker program.

Bring on the fair tax.

Yes, because we all know that it is infinitely more fair to tax the entire income of someone living paycheck to paycheck while only taxing a small fraction of a billionaires earnings.

726,

That's what prebates are for. Study up.

What the fuck is Redneckville whining about the IRS "putting the screws" to us for? He's a member of the biggest welfare recipients in America - farmers. Do you even pay a dime in taxes?

Uh huh. Let me know when AT&T puts a lien against your house or tries to throw you in jail for being late with a cell phone bill.

Apples to apples, eh? How come liberals don't seem to have any sense of proportion?

Just don't tax food and clothing. All the other things in life are luxuries.

FAIR TAX Yeah....cuz working class people want to pay more tax so rich folks can pay less.

Lets go to a use tax and a consumption tax. That way you pay for what you use, not what you earn.

I have never understood why I should pay more taxes than my lazy neighbor. I don't use more government services than he does.

"I have never understood why I should pay more taxes than my lazy neighbor. I don't use more government services than he does."

Because taxes, by their very nature, are in place to prop up those who do need government services at the expense of those who do not. It's the same thing with health insurance. Those companies make a profit because the amount of money coming in from people who never need the services is more than what they end up having to shell out. A consumption tax would never work, because those who need government the most would not be able to afford the cost of what they receive.

Joe, read the constitution!!!!!

Our government was not set up to help the lazy. Taxes are not like insurance premiums. You are one socalistic SOB.

If you are your brother's keeper, go out and adopt a homeless person. Don't expect me to do it.

"If you are your brother's keeper, go out and adopt a homeless person. Don't expect me to do it."

Until Reagan was elected I don't remember a significant number of homeless folks.
When they emptied out the asylums and put crazy people out on the street what did they expect was going to happen??
Would a sane person choose to be homeless?

You are one socalistic SOB

In all the time I have been posting here I didn't think I would EVER see Joe pinned as a socialist.

Welcome to the club Joe, here's your hammer and sickle.

Funny thing is ---- This is Exactly What the Russians Said while shipping off the homeless, the disadvantaged and ill to Gulags!

Sniper-

I never said that I support that form of government. I said that is the current state of our own.

we should have an anal sex tax

W comes down and fucks you in the ass.

if you vote republican, you get a reacharound

Funny thing is ---- This is Exactly What the Russians Said while shipping off the homeless, the disadvantaged and ill to Gulags!

What the hell are you talking about? The Gulag system was a penal camp and political prisoner camp. The homeless, the disadvantaged and ill were not sent there unless they happened to be common criminals or political refusniks. Do you ever get anything right, deadwreckville? Here, this will help educate you:

gulag

I get sick to my stomach every time I have to pay my income and property taxes. I am not upset that I pay, but like most people, because I don't think I get much of a return on my money.

I think we are at a critical path where we either:
1.) Cut all social services except a bare minimum of a safety net (government cheese) so that we can repay the debt and finally reduce taxes (Rep dream) or,

2.) Go full on socialist like Western Europe where I would get government health care paid for by my taxes vs. spending extra for it and there would be an actual safety net like in Denmark where you can live a middle class lifestyle on a low end job (like secretray, etc).

Personally, I would choose option #2 because I think it results in a safer environment for all (less criminals) and a better society. Unfortunately, I can not get option #2 by voting Dem because we would actually have to close our borders to implement it and that ain't gonna happen with Hill or Obama.

$750 Billion spent on defense (misnomer) this year.

Jacque Strap,

Yet, you don't see people rushing to live in Norway. Maybe becuase Norway encourages and subsidizes lazy slobs and if someone is a lazy slob to start with, they won't bother to move to Norway.

"Yet, you don't see people rushing to live in Norway."

No, you don't see that. But the real reason is that it is really hard to get citizenship and a work permit there. You can't simply move there and work as an illegal and still collect the societal benefits - the same thing applies to Denmark. The only people that talk down Western Europe are those that have never been there and are ignorant of what life is like outside the US. Don't assume that life is like Tijuana everywhere outside the US just because that is the only travel you have done. As an interesting side note, the Europeans treat the Turks like we do the Mexicans - the Turks are willing to work for illegal or low wages and typically lack education and flood certain industries. Unlike America, they are better about securing their border though.

"Yet, you don't see people rushing to live in Norway"

YEAH!

I bet they have more than Iraq, the Privatized Bush Cult No Tax Heaven Utopia you people have just broken our bank to "build"!

Where would we be, without Redneckville to elevate the discourse of these threads?

Of course, in your rant to blame Reagan, you conveniently forget the liberal uproar in the 70's over how these people were being imprisoned against their will when they had committed no crime. Once again we see the long term consequences of short term liberal thinking.

Where would we be, without Redneckville to elevate the discourse of these threads?

An average IQ of about 23 points higher.

In addition to this, you don't see many Norwegians Immigrating to the US of A either ---- maybe there is a clue for you in that!

And coincidentally, many countries of which the Bush Cult Regard as Allies and Role Models, (i.e. Dictatorships) and ones were Bush "Gazed into their Eyes and Found his Contemporary" (i.e. Dictators) people are clamoring to escape ---- again, maybe and opportunity for you to buy a clue!

YEAH!
That the standard of living is high in Norway and the average GNP per capita is one of the highest in the world!

OSLO, Norway -- The United Nations ranked Norway as the best country to live in for a sixth consecutive year Thursday, prompting its aid minister to tell Norwegians to stop whining about wanting more.

Oil-rich Norway, with its generous welfare state, topped the U.N. Development Program's human-development index, based on such criteria as life expectancy, education and income. Iceland was No. 2, followed by Australia, Ireland, Sweden, Canada, Japan and the United States.

Since you're still in the thread, Sniper, do you have any reaction to my response after you called me a socialist?

Redneck,

And yet, despite the high standard of living, no one is lining up to move there as they are here....Hmmmmm, could there be more to life than government handouts?

Redneck,

YEAH!

Well I wouldn't hazard to make that assumption without a direct comparison of immigration Applications! Obviously you have them; otherwise it would be just foolish for you to come to such a conclusion without reviewing the evidence.

Care to Share?

And I fail to see how there can be "More to Life" than a Higher Standard of Living and all that it implies!

See, two can play your little game.

This will be ignored by those whom it's directed at because it doesn't fit in with their version of reality.

And yet, despite the high standard of living, no one is lining up to move there as they are here....Hmmmmm, could there be more to life than government handouts?

Hmmmmm, could it be as mentioned above, that they have much stricter immigration rules?

As I said, they will only pay attention to what fits their version of reality.

YEAH!

Well, this is obvious when you look at the Government They Wanted and thus Built ---- in Iraq!

It has everything in it they prescribe to and advocate for! It's a real World, Real Time Example of their Ideas put into Practice!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

redneck, you are a fucking idiot. I think you should do the right thing. Get a fucking job and a fucking life. Grow up boy.

Redneck, are your welfare payments taxable? Lord knows someone as stupid as you could not possibly have a job.

Posted by 08r4ever

You sure spend a lot of time accusing people you don't know of not having jobs. What's the Matter? You got nothing intelligent to say, so your contribution is to project your own shortcomings? Dumbshit.

here's a little trick that makes them nutzier.

have your taxes done.

if THEY owe you, don't file for a few years.

eventually, they come and tell you that you owe THEM!

well, lo and behold, you file yours and they owe you!

this is the coolest tactic and they also pay you interest in some cases.

we're doing it for four year's worth - they think we owe in the five figures, but they actually owe us. this is like the best high.

but they actually owe us. this is like the best high.

It's your money. If you want to let FedGov hang on to it for a while, I guess that's up to you. So, I guess your retirement fund is already stacked?

Nanc,

Certified fucking fruit cake!!!! "that'll fix them revenooers!! Wait'll I shows them!!!! They thinks I owes them but they's wrong. That's gonna be the funniest thing EVER in the whole history of the world, gol-darn it. Ha Ha Ha...... oops, I done shit myself!!"

Class act, that!!!!

I don't understand why the government give tax breaks to those with children while also paying to publicly educate them?

How about the home interest deduction? You get to own your own home while saving on your taxes. Those who rent don't get either. Talk about disproportion.
