This comment by Bukky takes the cake:

All is she saying is that "the people are happy to be screwed"

I just read about this before coming here. Empty promises by politicians do make people bitter.

I saw them on CNN going on about this and had to go look it up. They were making it sounds like Obama was going to go down in flames for this! I was thinking what the hell did he say?

Then I saw what he said, people in small towns are bitter they haven't had a job in 25 years. No shit sherlock! That's supposed to be controversial?

CNN really is the Clinton News Network, lol!

I wonder how Pennsylvanians feel about this? If I was out of work through no fault of my own, I'd be pissed. I wouldn't expect a politician to say "pissed", but it wouldn't bother me to hear one say "there are a lot of bitter unemployed people out there". I'm not sure what logic makes this a bad thing to acknowledge.

Maybe Corky can explain? ;)

Corky will do His damnedest to make a silk purse out of a sows ear with regards to Hellary. Fortunately for us We will know it's still a sows ear.

Larry Mohr

I just returned from visiting family in Saluda South Carolina. I have three cousins who just graduated college within the last two yeasr, each of which have been looking fr jobs since that time. Saluda used to be one of the biggest manufacturing cities in the country. Now, the only place to work is Burger King. My cousins are all leaving Saluda, the place where their mothers and their mothers mother ws born. Looking at this, I'd say Obama wa more in touch with the hearts of these folks than they are with themselves. One of my cousins scream out loud "these damn mexicans messing life up for us." I don't know how true that statement is, but it's exactly what Obama is talking about.

You look at the media in these types of situations and they simply punt there responsibility. This is a presidential campaign, and such statements from Obama are prime debate peices. Examine the crust and see what we got. Instead what you get is pundit bullshit. You know, some of what Rev Wright said IS TRUE.

Sounds like he would fit in with the American left quite nicely. I wonder if he is going to have a guest blog spot on the Huffington Post?

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter,
they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to
people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant
sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to
explain their frustrations," he also said.

OK, he's kinda painting with a broad brush, but,
much like his 'typical white person' comment - his
rhetoric is FACTUAL.

I certainly don't have a problem with it.

Be Well.

Im from Pennsylvania, but I moved to Tucson, AZ 3 years ago because I was laid off from my job and the area doesnt have many opportunities. However, I also dont look to the president to get me a new job. To solve my employment problem, I moved. Now my daily life is sunny and warm!

"Im(sic) from Pennsylvania, but I moved to Tucson, AZ 3 years ago"

And your point is?

BTW Pennsylvania and Arizona both suck.

Hey now Zat!!!!!!! Intercourse Pennsylvania rocks.

Larry Mohr

"Pennsylvania rocks."

Sure.

If you libs can't comprehend why BHO's statement is a self inflicted political headshot wound then so much the better for McCain.

Insulting gun owners, Christians and the unemployed in one paragraph, way to go BHO.

I can't wait to see Olbermann cry big crocodile tears over this fucking terrorist lowlife.

Hey I have driven down Puseyville road and had my pics taken of the sign which is 15' off the ground. (I guess people like to steal it!)

PA's alright. I still don't get the build a huge city in the desert concept?

He just got through playing this game which was bought at Wal-mart.

www.ebaumsworld.com

And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Just words....just words....

How arrogant to think because some have tough times they feel their constitutional right to own a gun as a fall back position????

So it's bad to fall back on your faith in tough times? Is that what Rev. Wright taught him?

So people turn into racists when times are tough and hate anyone that is not like them?

Tough time make us enforce our borders???

Was Obama frustrated when he said NAFTA was a mistake? (I saw his tax returns, I know it was not tough times)

So in front of the masses he speaks of hope but in front of $2500 a plate supporters he speaks of the racist, hateful, hopelessness of the little people?

Who really is this guy?

Why do conservatives hate the truth? Ya bitch about PC hypersensitivity then when Obama is painfully frank you bitch about that.

Tigerbalm in Tucson.

Why do conservatives hate the truth? Ya bitch about PC hypersensitivity then when Obama is painfully frank you bitch about that.

So which is the real Obama?

Voters deserve to know.

Crap...that didn't work. It was image # 3. Sorry, but I was distracted.

www.engrish.com

Do really need a sign for this? It's already an unspoken rule.

It's extra delicious watching the left eat their own rotted placenta.

Of course there are people who feel bitterness after their lives are changed and screwed up by the Bush/Cheney last eight years and starting before that. Hillary thinks its condescending. Well she is so condescending to the American people about how she is entitled to be President, and that the people in Pennsylvania are "rolling up their sleeves" - now THAT is condescending coming from Mrs. $12 million since Bill was President.

Who really is this guy?

He's a politician who knows that John McCain already has the gun toting, bible thumping, bitter racist vote sown up.

Divided they fall and again Imperium avoids the weak and feeble minded left.

Obama will unite the gun toting, bible thumping, bitter racists and Reverend Wright.

That's what his candicacy is all about.

Be Well.

Jacques A. Zulu- If you libs can't comprehend why BHO's statement is a self inflicted political headshot wound

it's because you're not on the special sauce! The same shit 28% of Americans have flushed their brains out with.

People get bitter when they lose their jobs. End of fucking story, regardless of any inane political spin...Y'all are truly reaching here.

obama hit back...and hard OWNED

"Pennsylvanians don't need a president who looks down on them," she said. "They need a president who stands up for them, who fights hard for your future, your jobs, your families."

Gosh!

We musn't have a president who actually talked to the people and found out that many of them may be bitter about the jobs disappearing!

This bitch believes adults can't handle the truth. Please spoon feed us your bullshit Ms Clinton!

Alexandrite, do you totally discount Obamas words? Or do you think they may be some held belief behind them? Honest question.

Here's my answer:

www.youtube.com

(got this in an email, but it's the same link August dropped first)

Just words?

Alexandrite, I thought that is what Obama meant from the first time I heard the story. What I am asking is, do you believe in what he said?

Dawg, are you that stupid? It's been quoted above. He's speaking frankly, without condescension. Some people can handle that.

Why do you think people cling to guns, religion, and anti-immigrant rhetoric? Couldn't be because they have little else, could it?

Stupid? I haven't posted my reaction to Obama's comments yet.

'Regime Change'......Without knowing my feelings on the subject, in what way did you find me, 'stupid'?

It's extra delicious watching the left eat their own rotted placenta.

Kinda like the way most of the right HATES John McTaint?

That walking corpse was despised by FUX Noise and the rest of the righties on here until you realized you had no other option.

Now THAT'S some funny shit!

obama hit back...and hard OWNED

You believe that stuff? It was all spin.

He didn't explain why he disparaged people who pray when times are tough?

He sluffed off the gun rights issue by deflecting it into a minor issue and a reason to vote for somebody

He didn't explain why it's ok for him to pander about NAFTA but when we do it's suddenly "anti-trade".

He's working you good.

For Obama It appears the answer is yes.

Too bad all he responded with was his talk on being bitter.

That wasn't the rub. The rub is sterotyping people with guns and religion and OMG--kicking out the illegals.

Obama is an idiot extrodinaire.

More supposedly coming next week via HRC.

Murphy

This is controversial?

You have to really have your head up your ass not to understand the point.

Religion... really? Maybe I'm not reading this right, but I wouldn't have put religion in with guns & racism and such...

Religion... really? Maybe I'm not reading this right, but I wouldn't have put religion in with guns & racism and such...

That's called a CLUE.

Yav,

I definitely agree with you.

That wasn't the rub. The rub is sterotyping people with guns and religion and OMG--kicking out the illegals.

Obama is an idiot extrodinaire.

While I agree it's stereotyping, I disagree about him being an idiot.

He is very smart. Maybe not brilliant as Oprah would say but he is smart enough to snooker half the country.

Let's face it, his comments boil down to "these stupid rednecks don't know no better" and he's got half of them agreeing with him because he said it so well. heh.

IMHO--

Most folks who are willing to take the risk-leave the place of no opportunity.

That is why Detroit is dying--in fact the whole state of MI is dying.

Many of the folks left--the ones left-- work for the state and local gov't cyphoning off the ones who really can't leave for whatever reason.

The town of Gillette ID went to Detroit some years back and advertised for jobs--come one and come all it said.

They didn't plan on thousands descending on their town to do construction --but they had no place to live!

Great planning--people in pup tents everywhere.

But they went there for work and they did get work.

They have factories in AL--go there to work and get the hell out!

MOre victim-mongering from Obama. Ugh!

Murphy

Let's face it, his comments boil down to "these stupid rednecks don't know no better" and he's got half of them agreeing with him because he said it so well. heh.

You think people that turn towards Religion and faith in God when times are tough, when 81% think the Country is going in the wrong direction, when there's a rise of 20% in people getting foods tamps are stupid rednecks?

You condescending asshole.

Mato--

I agree-

He is the invisible man who dropped into the Dem primary race from the big Daley Dem Machine of IL.

He ran on the same hope BS when he ran for State senator.

Screwing up HRC playhouse --that's for sure!

Yav, do you believe that white people blame their personal problems on anyone other then themselves?

You condescending asshole.

So you are going to email Obama and tell him that?

Because that is what OBAMA thinks!

"People don't vote on economic issues because they don't expect anybody is going to help them," Obama told a crowd at a Terre Haute, Ind., high school Friday evening. "So people end up voting on issues like guns and are they going to have the right to bear arms. They vote on issues like gay marriage. They take refuge in their faith and their community, and their family, and the things they can count on. But they don't believe they can count on Washington."

Yav, do you believe that white people blame their personal problems on anyone other then themselves?

You can't be serious.

Railings have had to installed all throughout the obama home and future campaign stops to prevent the Senator from falling due to dizziness from spinning...

Guns are important to PA.

"It's an important variable in Pennsylvania politics" that goes beyond gun ownership, Yost said. "We think it's an assessment of cultural sensibilities."

About 1 million hunters make Pennsylvania first in the nation in the amount of time its citizens spend hunting each year, according to the state Game Commission. The National Rifle Association says Pennsylvania has one of the highest per-capita memberships among states, with hundreds of thousands of people affiliated with the group.

www.pittsburghlive.com

Let's dig deep, Yav.

All we can count on from a liberal like Obama is higher taxes to people who pay taxes and more of the same.

He is so much in victimhood speak.

I mean if you can't rely on him and what he says he will do in Washington--we are all hopeless.

The only thing to count on is the gov't--really...

BS Hussein Barry Obama

Murphy

From the same link:

With the pervasive gun culture in Pennsylvania, about 60 percent of its citizens favor new gun control laws, according to an August Keystone Poll. That percentage has remained about the same since at least February 2000.

As a heart attack.

Then I have no interest in responding.

About 1 million hunters make Pennsylvania first in the nation in the amount of time its citizens spend hunting each year

Makes sense... Pennsylvania is huge and very little of it is urban...

Yav--brak brrrakkk brak brakk brrrakkk.

Chicken!

No, not chicken. Disappointed in the discourse. You know me well enough where your taunt just made me smile. For that - thanks!

do you believe that white people blame their personal problems on anyone other then themselves?

Yes, no, all the time, never, sometimes.

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," he also said.

Because, I mean, what else are the poor ignorant bastards to do? That's why the Flying Spaghetti Monster put we elites on earth, to do what's best for those so far on the shallow end of the gene pool as to psychologically project their frustrations on external factors, instead of realizing what dumb putz's they really are." - BHO

Wave bye bye to PA, Barrack, baby. So much for closing that deal.

You think people that turn towards Religion and faith in God when times are tough, when 81% think the Country is going in the wrong direction, when there's a rise of 20% in people getting foods tamps are stupid rednecks?

Actually, the rise in food tamps(sic) is greatest within illegal aliens.

Other than that. Yes, I do.

You condescending asshole.

Actually, I thought Obama's comments were condescending. As far as being called an asshole, well we are all limited by our vocabulary I guess.

Well--will have to see if the comments will last until the 22nd.

HRC has a 6 point lead in PA according to Rassmussen.

That's 10 long ass days left to the 22nd--which is an eternity in this election cycle.

All of these types of comments just keep adding up--not sure if folks are listening though.

Except for us political junkies.

Murphy

Not alot of fight in this blog.

Heck--they are advertising on the radio to go sign up for food stamps for the a couple of years now--They dropped the requirements and anyone who does not pay taxes can get food stamps.

So yeah--there are more people on food stamps now than every before.

Get folks addicted to the gov't tit.

Murphy

There's some irony for ya.

Dawg--The Obamamites will come out soon enough.

We have a ton of them on this site.

Most don't care for HRC--except for Corky.

More for McCain than HRC.

Murphy

Missed the thread on food stamps that was posted a few days ago?

Apathy is apathy Murph.

HRC has a 6 point lead in PA according to Rassmussen.

Hillary is going to win big. People are not going to tell posters that Rev Wrights comments shocked the beejesus out of them.

Nor will they agree with Obama's most resent peon comments.

Obamma is exposing himself and the electorate is not as stupid as he thinks. Yeah, the kool-aid drinkers will choke it down and claim it tastes good, but they are the same ones who will bend over for anything.

6 points will be right at the cusp of failure for Clinton. She'll need 10 to call it a clear win. The Clinton campaign made the mistake of setting expectations too high too early. They've been trying to reduce the expectations. Somewhat successfully. If Obama loses by 5 or less, PA will be considered a "win" in the MSM and with the SDs.

Hillary is going to win big.

I should clarify. She will if she can get Bill to shut the f up.

She will if she can get Bill to shut the f up.

Now that's something I can agree with you on. I swear he doesn't want her to win and is sabotaging her campaign.

Mato,

Being that you just joined the site today, I haven't had a chance to view your posts except for the ones on this thread. Obviously, you are not an Obama fan. Who's your favorite out of all 3?

I swear he doesn't want her to win and is sabotaging her campaign.

Yeah, seems that way. What a dork.

I thought you understood, you are dismissed Yav.

Goodnight.

I agree with that--Bill needs to stay behind the scenes.

He was great for himself--but terrible for his wife--terrible.

Mato--

if she wins big--don't tell anyone about Operation Chaos.

;o)

Murphy

I'm dismissed when I choose so. If you're leaving, goodnight to you.

Hey--If you want to put a link to a story--do you just put it in the SUBMIT box on the front page?

Murphy

So you want re-enter the octagon?

Enter the losers bracket boy.

Obama is exactly right about his statement, and if people can't handle the truth, it's just another example of the over-all dumbing down of America. What I really love is that even Hillary is stepping in with that wonderful made-up assumption of an "elitist."

After 8 years of the lowest common denominator for a president, can we really still believe as a nation that that we can afford to have anyone in but "the elite?" It is absolutely mind-blowing to me that we would rather have a president who might be fun to have a beer with over the kind of guy who could probably explain to you exactly where said beer was made, why it is the price it is today and taxed as it is, and what demographics it happens to be popular with. Apparently Americans want the dumb president, who doesn't remind them how stupid they are with his fancy words and the first bit of intellectual rhetoric heard since the Kennedy era.

It all keeps reminding me of a story by the late Kurt Vonnegut jr, wherein because all Americans are "equal," people have to be handicapped to the same level, physically so they can't perform any better than the weak and uncoordinated, and by a band that represses brain activity so noone is any brighter than the dimmest among us. The president in this book, which I cannot remember the title of for this partial synopsis, is a raving lunatic, a kind of hillbilly everyman, who keeps threatening world war over percieved slights by other nations, since nuking someone else is a government's way of beating them up. Written decades ago, our current president has reminded me of this book almost daily.

Obama's frank speech actually addresses reality for a contingent of the population that in our current state of (LOL) economic bliss, has been highjacked by the party that keeps giving placebo votes about "values" to maintain their votes, while keeping on feeding the huge corporations that use and discard these same voters mercilessly.

If people can't see that, it's there own damn fault. The tragedy is for others like myself, who can see it, want it to change, and yet, may get caught in the tide of uneducated, politically illiterate voters who still want that president that, "don't use big words and cares about the same kinda tings they do."

You know - VALUES - like not giving gays the same civil liberties other humans take for granted and protecting innocent cells from people who want to take and use them to cure horrible diseases.

Mato,

Being that you just joined the site today, I haven't had a chance to view your posts except for the ones on this thread. Obviously, you are not an Obama fan. Who's your favorite out of all 3?

Well out of the three least choices, I have to go for McCain.

Obama is toast. He's history.
His comments today insulted me even more than those of his sleezy preacher Rev. Wright.

People are hurting, have lost jobs, lost health insurance and Obama dares to say they are wrong if they maybe dare to pray a little more now and turn to God a little more?

What was with Obama's gun comment? I don't see people running around shooting other because they've lost their jobs etc. I think we got a real good look into what Obama thinks of the Second Amendnent.

And AGAIN Obama plays the race card by insulting people who have either lost jobs or had their wages driving down due to the 25 million illegal aliens who've poured into this country. Obama will never say the word "illegal" -- instead he insulted everyone by implying that Americans are against ALL immigrants and that is not true. Obama is so stupid that he made this comment on the same day a candy factory in PA announced it was sending a few hundred jobs down to Mexico.

I had started to give Obama a "wait and see" pass on his beloved racist Reverend Wright since those remarks didn't come from Obama but today's remarks -- out of Obama's own mouth -- were directly made to white America -- people he felt were hicks and blue collar, maybe owned a gun, and now Obama had the nerve to belittle those people who "dare" to maybe pray to God a little more now when the going is somewhat tougher for many of them who lost jobs, etc.

I wouldn't vote for Obama now after his remark today for anything. Obama was playing to the crowd in San Francisco and didn't think his remarks would go anywhere else. I have
been watching a lot of the reaction on a few of the cable channels and it is not good for Mr. Obama. He may as well pack his bags and go home. If there are others who feel like I do after his remarks he can kiss his chance for the presidency good-bye. We'll see what the Pennsylvania voters have to say -- you know, the ones who thru no fault of their own are unemployed but still pray to God and believe in the Second Amendment.

Let's see the Obamaniacs spin this one.

That's never worked for me, Murphy. RCade may read those - but there's no way to know what the posting rate is. I've had better luck posting from my own user blog and promoting it to the back page. I've had several put on the front page from there.

This is controversial?

You have to really have your head up your ass not to understand the point.

Yah...the MSM media is really reaching to get another "scandal" here.

Slow news days for them, and they just don wanna report the whole "torture authorized from top down" thing. Aside from Olbermann, who is?

People are hurting, have lost jobs, lost health insurance and Obama dares to say they are wrong if they maybe dare to pray a little more now and turn to God a little more?

He didn't say they were wrong at all. That's just bizarre.

People are hurting, have lost jobs, lost health insurance and Obama dares to say they are wrong if they maybe dare to pray a little more now and turn to God a little more?

----

What? Where did that come from? That's what you got out of that?

IMHO--Most folks who are willing to take the risk-leave the place of no opportunity.

There is a point where there's simply no work, yet there are people who will tough things out because they don't don't just live "somewhere" but in a place they call home.

Can't expect some Orange County Maven to understand that, can we Murph?

Ask American1st why he remains in the hills of West Virginia and I'll bet he says it's my home, my daddy's home, and granddaddy's home. It's also called heritage.

When I lived in Arizona I met a lot of people who had fled the rust belt, and others who just fled whatever was behind them. Few had family there, but there was no shortage of opportunity, and friends were easy to make, and just as easy to lose.

Obama is right about one thing he reportedly said: People don't believe the government is doing anything to improve things, and usually just makes things worse.

Problems in places like Detroit were as much the problem of management as they were of labor. The Big 3 kept building land yachts that fell apart while the Japs put their efforts into meeting the CAFE standards and producing autos that kept running for 300,000 miles.

The real deception came when companies like WalMart and guys like Kissinger went to China and financed factories that employed kids and prisoners, and where they could dump waste without reservation.

We've all bought into to it one way or another, and now we want to know where the jobs have gone.

Bitter?

Yeah, there is some of that. It's not a matter of blame but the reality that the company you've spent 10, 20, 30 years working hard and producing a product gets bought by Kravis or some other asshole who only cares about how much he squeeze from a company before spinning it off or piecing it out.

Maybe it's not PC to talk about these things, but I'm glad to hear someone saying it.

But I've heard enough from the Clintons. They are they most vile and deceitful pair in politics, and that is a difficult achievement when you have the Cheneys operating in the same venue.

I swear [Bill Clinton] doesn't want her to win and is sabotaging her campaign.

Yeah, seems that way. What a dork.

Posted by Mato at 2008-04-12 12:52 AM

I've felt that too. I think Bill secretly doesn't want her to be prez. I could care less about any of the three of them but so are it's sure been an interesting campaign to watch.

Well, hello Ozark.

Are you a player?

Obama's frank speech actually addresses reality for a contingent of the population that in our current state of (LOL) economic bliss, has been highjacked by the party that keeps giving placebo votes about "values" to maintain their votes, while keeping on feeding the huge corporations that use and discard these same voters mercilessly.

So treating the populous as if they are idiots is they way to address issues?

If I say your stupid to pray in times of trouble you say "Yes, your right!"

Seems to me your buying right into the placebo Obama is feeding you.

but so are = but so far

Slow news days for them, and they just don wanna report the whole "torture authorized from top down" thing. Aside from Olbermann, who is?

I agree.

Don't want to be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new mania
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind fuck America.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along to the age of paranoia.

Don't want to be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's calling out to idiot America.

As if it wasn't clear enough,

Here's what I got out of it.

Blue collar folks in PA have been having a rough time. Politicians promise them the world and then fail to deliver. Those people have been let down time and time again. They're bitter about that. They turn to other things (good and bad) like guns, family, faith, blaming others to vent their frustrations over their economic situation.

Or just another, other?

You talking to me doggie?

Obama is spot on. He knows whaqt the score is. If You don't like it well tough.

Larry Mohr

I'm talking right at you Oz.

Do you have any play in your game?

Well I don't understand the question. Player?

I'm not a gamer. Strictly hardware.

I already know what you are Ozark. I just didn't want to leave you out.

Everyone gets a chance to step up.

Everyone gets a chance to step up.

You mean "step down."

Yes, Dawgpound, if someone says they pray in times of trouble, I do say it's stupid. The last thing I need to be worrying about when I have a problem is that I've developed schizophrenia and started talking to invisible friends in the sky as well :)

I agree with you Zero.

Rofl, I think I meant Mato, it's late, sorry

The problem the Dems have now is that Obama and Clinton are attacking each other's character big time. It's going to hard for the loser to credibly back the winner.

Clinton said "Pennsylvanians don't need a president who looks down on them." If Obama wins the nomination, how will she be able to reconcile that and back Obama?

* to be hard for the loser

dawgpound = Rex Zeitgeist.

Pirate- you nailed what Obama was saying.

Alexandrite - thanks for posting the vid.

www.youtube.com

Excellent.

I often get the feeling that Hillary honestly would rather sabotage the whole party rather than lose. Just another reason I prefer Obama - even though Hillary's healthcare plan actually sounds better thought out.

So simple.

Hilary has been "out of touch" since she hatched her anchor baby.

That's part of her problem.

Then there's her utter lack of credibility.

Udder?

Clinton said "Pennsylvanians don't need a president who looks down on them." If Obama wins the nomination, how will she be able to reconcile that and back Obama?

She's already whoring for McCain.

Well, I can certainly give an example of what he means by the "guns" part of this...

There is a certain subset of these "bitter" people who are anticipating the collapse of this country under the weight of corruption, cronyism and ineptitude and have hence procured arms in the event that TSHTF (The Shit Hits The Fan). This has nothing to do with making fun of people that have guns. It illustrates the reality that there is a movement towards pseudo-militia-type groups that are gearing up for when some sort of collapse occurs. That sounds a whole lot like the bitterness and hopelessness he was referring to... If that's not downright despair, I don't know what is.

Am I making this shit up? No. You have several different subsets of these folks, from the super-debt doomers -- talk to Ray (I tend to suspect)... he might not be completely in this category, but other like-minded folks see the collapse of this country due to economic calamity as inevitable -- to the peak oil/global warming/resource doomers -- who think civilization will grind to a halt because our political system is so fucked it will never come around to address these issues (whether they actually are issues or not is irrelevant).

And a lot of these are folks that still have jobs. Some of the folks without employment are probably of the mind that TSHTF already.

How do I know? Been there, done that. In retrospect, its irrational and highly paranoid... But I can see where everyone's coming from. Inept and unpredictable leaders tend to provoke anxieties and survivalist tendencies in people. Hence, they cling to guns as they fear for their personal safety.

I believe, in this case, Obama is speaking to those people. It certainly resonated with that part of me and it really shows that he's far more in touch with diverse groups of people (even more niche groups) than either of the other candidates.

I must object to some extent, however. These tendencies are certainly not limited to "small-towners" exclusively. I've seen my share of this in the cities as well.

"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama, an Illinois senator, said.

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," he said.

The guy's more of a liberal elitist than friggin' Kerry, and obviously has no connection with tha average working man. What a pandering piece of shit.

"You go into some of these ghettos in America, and like a lot of ghettos, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama, an Illinois senator, said.

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to crack or The Nation of Islam or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," he said.

Hey, these stereotypes are easy and fun! Thanks Obama!

Clinton said "Pennsylvanians don't need a president who looks down on them." If Obama wins the nomination, how will she be able to reconcile that and back Obama?

She won't (really). Like millions of her supporters, she will vote McCain in Nov. McCain 08!!

Hillary's a proven liar. I doubt PA will go for McSame. The GOP's policies are no better than NAFTA for average working people.

All the DNC has to do is run pics of McSame giving W a loving hug or the video of his statement, "I don't know much about how to run the economy".

Millionaires as out of touch with average voters as McSame are not in vogue anymore.

right...Barry and Michelle are such "typical" Americans....

Feigned indignation.

You dipshit righties know Obama's right you just can't stand that he had the balls to say it.

Yeah, out of work Joes in middle America fell back to voting on gun issues even though no politician will take away your guns. Abortion issues even though no party will ban abortion. And religious issues, even while those politicians professing Christiian values failed to walk the talk.

The R's and D's failed to deliver on economic promises time and time again. So the Carl Roves of the world played on emotion. I just don't think it will work again.

You know "fool me once, can't get fooled again".

Few recognize how similar the Clinton's and Bush's policies are. Those who do choose Obama, not because he has a proven track record outside their doublespeak, but because he is their only hope. Desparation breeds hope.

Killary is a disingenious bitch. That's all she ever was and all she'll ever be. I am so looking forward to seeing her break down and cry when she gets tossed out of the race. Boo hoo.

Yep. They just paid off their student loans a couple of years ago. But for the book royalties their income wouldn't have been much.

You're so jealous of people doing well. After 20 years of making minimum incomes because of working on behalf of the less fortunate, now you begrudge them a little bit of success.

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to crack or The Nation of Islam or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," he said.

Let's try that again.

MUNCIE, Ind. - Democrat Barack Obama on Saturday conceded that comments he made about bitter working class voters who "cling to guns or religion" were ill chosen, as he tried to stem a burst of complaints that he is condescending.

"I didn't say it as well as I should have," he said.

Yes people are bitter. They are bitter over arrogant politicians who malign and dismiss their values, values which are held by the majority of americans. People place great emphasis on their values concerning gun ownership, religion, and national sovereignty. Yes people want their jobs back. Too bad for BO that people know how excessive government regulations and taxation have sent their jobs overseas.

The more people finally start listening to BO the more people will see what a polarizing character he is. He can draw crowds of 20,000 to hear him speak yet he can barely get half of democrats to vote for him.

"You look at the media in these types of situations and they simply punt there responsibility. This is a presidential campaign, and such statements from Obama are prime debate peices. Examine the crust and see what we got. Instead what you get is pundit bullshit. You know, some of what Rev Wright said IS TRUE."--UPSETCITIZEN

The Reverend Wright was speaking the truth. Amnerika died in the nineteen-sixties. The media pundits and Sunday Talking Heads are wrong. They have always been wrong. They will always be wrong. Television and print "journalists" feed off each other's bullshit and have come to believe what they are telling us.

Open your eyes. Why does milk cost $2.50+ per gallon? How come your utility costs keep rising, even when you play all the games, installing compact florescent bulbs and turning back your heat to sixty degrees? Why are most new jobs in the service industry and paying $10.00 per hour or less?

With grocery and energy and gasoline prices forming such a great economic trifecta, I am waiting for a long, hot summer to begin.

I didn't find this above, so if it is mentioned I apologize. While those at the Clinton News Network do tend to have their heads up their collective asses, every once in a rare while the defog the stomach window. Follow this I from dKos

or cut to the chase

I have news for the closet farrakan muslim!!!

Pa had religion and guns prior to their slow times. Shove it up your ass Obama!!!

BillyRay - that's it EXACTLY. Good post - great video.

Gee John69, tell us how Obama will cure inflation? You dipsh!ts are buying a pig in a poke. He's selling you that the world is broken, and only he can fix it...He'll bring heaven to Earth. BTW would you want his view of heaven?? He's a freakin racist, an elitist!

He doesn't care to tell us how, just "trust" him!!!!

Obama as "elitist" I'll give ya. "Racist"? Bullshit.

In addition to all these labels people are slapping on Obama, they're going to have a new one, "President" to call him by soon enough. By then, I wonder what other 'clever' names people will use to call the guy.

clinton hitting obama on 'Bitter Comment' is like bill clinton hitting Monica on 'being a whore'...they both suck (get it?)

first haiti, coming to the US soon. greedy corporations and politicians facing growing protests over food and fuel prices. people are hurting getting nothing but lip service by career politicians. obama's right. people are bitter.

The hilarious thing is, that people are harping on this because he is again being consistent and saying what is true.

Wow, people who don't have jobs don't like not having jobs. Holy crap, that is so 'controversial'!

Except for those who support Hilary and don't have jobs, why they are just chipper as all can be!
Perhaps because they are retired?

This does show the real desperation in the Clinton ranks, and the media outlets are hoping to get good coverage out of it. But I think most people are beyond the stupid partisan gaming that is going on here.

Again, people hold on to their religion in hard times, and those who haven't worked in a while are bitter about it. Shocking.

Big John,
It's controversial because Clintons campaign says it is. They are hanging onto everything they can to try to win the nomination.

Again, this current debate reveals conservative's unwillingness to look at causes. Too scary for their tight little minds. The whole conservative movement is like a disfunctional family with alcoholic uncles, closeted homosexuals, and secret clan members, all pretending that everything is just peachy.

What do conservatives have to do with this discussion? Obama is talking about working class Democrats in the small towns of Pennsylvania.

Geez, I guess you blame Bill's stupid statements on tight little conservative minds?

Hillary is an idiot and Obama is an idiot. They both have too much flawed presidential ambition and it is (always was in my humble opinion) becoming glaringly obvious to many on all sides of the political spectrum.

I would feel angry too if the federal government sat by and did nothing while my job was shipped to Mexico. Obama tells the truth while Hillary is using every angle possible to get in. The trouble is there are alot of stupid people believing in her dirty and grab onto every word to twist her way to the nomination. She can't get there on her own so she lays in wait for Obama to make a mistake or for hoping she will come up with some dirt on Obama. We don't need another dirty President like Bush.

Little by little we're finding out what's really hiding under Obama's thin veneer.

We know, for example, that his wife has never been proud of America in her whole entire adult life.

We know that the Obamas think America is a mean country in 2008.

We know that he's been soaking up Reverand Wrights anti-America brainwashing for the past 20 years (and apparently loving it).

Now we know that he's over-compensating for his half black/half white heritage with a thinly veiled attitude of elitism that rears it's ugly head from time to time.

Wait until his station in life changes to President, the most powerful man in the world, and white people start to bow and scrape to a black man.

That's when you're going to see the real Obama emerge. Then everybody can moan and groan and ask themselves why they didn't see the warning signs.

Does that sound familiar?

If it doesn't, it should.

How many times will the voters fall for that "every man's common man" sales pitch and ignore the fact that Obama's is just another black guy suffering from lack of power in a white society.

Anger and bitterness seem to be the core of their existence and white America must be made to pay the price.

WOW Unbelievable.

Larry Mohr

enogh said. HRC and BHO do have something in common, that is DIAREA OF THE MOUTH They both deserve the 'walking eagle award.

McCain if for "free trade" and says so. He also wants tax cuts for the rich to be permanent. He also wants to cut the corporate tax rate even further while not replacing those taxes on the wealthy.

Clinton's husband signed NAFTA with her support at the time and her membership on the Walmart Board disqualifies her permanently from claiming to represent working class America.

Obama says people are angry and bitter over the outsourcing but thinks our outrage about illegal immigration is simply xenophobia.

What's a mother to do??

I want my kids to enjoy a life at least as decent as the one I have but NONE of the ABOVE seem to be listening to me or the rest of the working class.
Obama comes the closest but sorry Barrack, when you have your job outsource or you get replaced by an illegal alien for $5.00 per hour then come back and tell us it is just xenophobia. Wake up man, that is one part of your platform that is out of touch with working class folks. I don't think we want punishment for illegals but we do want some way of preventing employers from using them to further drive down wages.

danni.......for the first time ever, I can say this and mean it.....seriously....I feel your pain.

but I heard a comment about obama that was the best one I have heard yet. the republican strategists on meet the press kept saying it.
he is channeling michael dukakis.....and we all know how that came out.
so in the face of political darkness, we on the right see that light getting brighter and brighter almost everytime he opens his mouth.......

Obama says people are angry and bitter over the outsourcing but thinks our outrage about illegal immigration is simply xenophobia.

That isn't what he said nor implied Danni, and doesn't anyone else find it rich that BLT finds GOP talking heads analogizing Obama to Dukakis without a freaking clue to their eternal differences?

Obama is going to continue to be vunerable to those who parse his statements without taking the entire verbage into its proper context as any rational, intelligent person should. This election will come down to the ability of the American voter to hear and respond to an intelligent person speaking to them in articulate language above the level of a 4th grader. In our soundbite culture, this very attempt is dangerous in that the MSM isn't interested in relaying the entirety of anyone's comments, they're just intrested in creating salacious controversy that puts the focus on their reporting of cherry-picked quotations.

Anyone who's read or listened to the way Obama approached the subject and significance of his response could not possibly find his intent was to demean or to denigrate the people or the institutions his comments broached. His entire intent was to relay that the people in smalltown, formerly industrial America have been promised so much by those seeking election to Washington offices that empty promises from officeseekers are assumed by many of these people based upon their own life history. Since they cannot rely on help from Washington, they've retrenched and strengthened the things they can have faith in and control, namely the "God and guns" notion. This has enabled the Right to use wedge issues like gay marriage and gun control to get these nominally Democratic voters to vote against their economic self-interests. This is what Obama was trying to articulate, and what most politically saavy individuals could devine from simple logic. In no way was there ever a dig to this culture or to its importance in the lives of its proponents.

The fact that neither Hillary nor McCain spent one second of their lives trying to personally improve the lives of people displaced by the changing economies and plant closures while Barack did just that on the Southside of Chicago only underscores that its those two who are clueless and often deaf and condescending to these concerns, not Barack Obama. He has walked and worked amongst the people, Hillary and McCain never have.

And on the further point of immigration, immigrants didn't cause the plants to close, unequal trade agreements have had a much greater impact in the contemporary context. However, as the influx of immigrants has increased, they have become an easy source to blame for economic conditions they didn't create nor foster on their own. They've become the latest scapegoat for the travails of displaced American workers and their own frustrations with a shrinking job market that the free-traders say must exist in this global economy.

Barry loses to McCain in November...get use to it.

You're so jealous of people doing well. After 20 years of making minimum incomes because of working on behalf of the less fortunate, now you begrudge them a little bit of success.

You are such an ostrich when it comes to Barry. He could kill his 2 daughters and you would find some way to make him sound like MLK and Jeezus all in one. How is it living in a fantasy world?

CIK...

Obama will win in a landslide because McCain represents nothing but a continuation of Bush 43, which 81% of America stands against.

Its laughable for anyone to not to recognize the mood of the electorate for the sake of their own personal preferences.

CLINTONSKIING

You wingnuts who are so consumed with the Democratic primary should watch your asses come the fall.

America doesn't have THAT short a memory when it comes to what the last 8 years brought, or what the next 4 could bring. McSame sounds more and more like Bush with every passing week.

Once again i agree with what Obama said. The GOP has suckered countless idiots on wedge issues that don't make a hill of beans of difference in anyone's life.

Tony, sorry but you are just plain wrong when it comes to illegal immigration. They have cost millions of Americans their jobs. There are 20 million of them here in the US and the jobs they are doing were not created after they got here. They replaced an American and generally for considerably less in wages. Pretending that is not true in hopes of currying favor with the Hispanic voter is foolish, many or most of the legal Hispanic voters feel exactly the same way I do about it. We don't hate illegal aliens, we sypathize with their plight but are still unwilling to sacrifice sixty years of hard fought improvements to the lives of workers because these immigrants choose to enter the country and undercut the wages of citizens. If Obama wants to represent the working class he should deal firmly with this issue and the issue of our open border with Mexico.
At least on immigration Hillary Clinton has claimed a stronger position than Obama, now whether she really means it is an entirely different discussion.

"What I found to be most revealing was that these remarks were made several thousand miles from us, at a very expensive fundraising campaign event in a very upscale location where he did not think any of us were going to hear what he would say," said Harrisburg Mayor Stephen R. Reed, a Clinton supporter. "It invites the question of what else does this candidate think about all the different people who make up our redder, diverse nation."

Obama looks down his fried chicken nose at small town America.

Most of the PA papers have nothing about Obama's remarks. FoxNews interviewed a lot of people on their views of his remarks. Even those who didn't plan to vote for him (McCain voters) say he's right.

Scranton, PA's (Hillary's 145th hometown) paper endorsed Obama today as did Allentown.

Cookfish has reached Corky status as obsessed with someone who's not their candidate of choice.

When I reach your whiny little "I'm leaving for the Daily Kos" level, or your low-life attack threads, let me know, AU, you delicate little bitch. Don't you have another farewell speech to make?

Delicate? You're the one sounding like a whiny little bitch. BTW I never said I was leaving. I did just check out the Kos threads. Refreshing to get away from whiny little bitches like you

Whiny Bitch Flag for Cookfish - who's obsessed with Obama. You a 'Hillary Girl' Cookfish? You sound like one

"Obama looks down his fried chicken nose at small town America."

Well....that's what Fox News would have you believe so is it any wonder that cookfish is here to tell us that??? The pundits decide what the people think and then convince the people or try to in this case.
Talk about "elitist"????....Fox News is the most elitist of the elitist cable networks.

BTW you DID say you were leaving, after you cried like a little bitch because Rodgers buried your thread, only to find out that he put it on the front page, which made you look like an even BIGGER pussy. Please keep your word and leave to the Kos and only check back from time to time, preferably in the a.m. where no one has to watch you embarass yourself. YOU posted the attack threads. YOU cried like a raped kitten and said you were leaving. Be a man of your word for a change, and exchange that vagina for some balls. Hell, just be a man for a change.

Cookfish - The 'BOO HOO' whiner

INCREDIBLE HYPOCRITE FLAG for AU, trying to tell everyone he isn't a whiny bitch that was going to leave because Corky did him in. What a tampon tester.

Cookfish doing what he loves best on threads

Corky had you on the ropes, you pussy. Why won't you deny what I'm saying? Because you can't, you little punk. Show me I'm wrong, or STFU! Done in by Corky. I hope you don't have grandchildren that will have to look at that.

Cookfish - 1st Wednesday in November (one day after the election)

Cookfish

Bitch, if you think I give a shit what you have to say, guess again. Anyone who spends their time spamming and posting Obama threads is in Corky territory. Pretty sad whiny bitch

When you're old and dying, you will have to admit what a total pussy you've been on this site to God, who will of course laugh in your vagina-like face, you weasel. Creating attack threads and threatening to leave like a bitch because Corky (of all people) made you eat dirt will be your legacy here. Congrats.

Oooooooo

You're such a tough little whiny bitch Cookfish

OK whine some more. Get it out of your system for the next hour.

You go girl!!

First attack thread (because Corky had him so pissed off he couldn't think of anything else)

CORKY: The Inconsiderate Shill

What a pussy to even RESORT to this level.

Danni...

I have no disagreement with what you said, but my context was for the "25 years ago" part of what Obama said, not the more recent wave of immigration. Illegals didn't cause the old rustbelt plants to close, that was my only point for comparison.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!

Cookfish

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!

Translation: I have no other way to respond when I've been exposed as a weak whiny little fraud. Poor even for you, AU. When do I get MY own attack thread, or did you realize that was a way of showing what a running little snatch you are?

You go into some of these big cities in California, a lot of them -- like a lot of big coastal cities, socialism hasn't worked now for over 25 years and nothing's replaced it. And they've gone through the Carter administration, and the Clinton administration, and each successive Democratic administration has said that somehow socialism is gonna regenerate and it has not. So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, and they cling to pacifism, or environmentalism, or antipathy toward people who aren't like them, or anti-white sentiment, or anti-American sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.*

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you PUSSY GALORE:

PS RCADE

I'll check back here from time to time and see if you've decided to restore som balance. I've had it for now.

Your bias in allowing 2 smears a day on Obama and removing one of only a handful of blog entries I've made the last few months from me has pissed me off.

I asked Corky nicely if she was a Democrat and if she really needs to slam Obama day after day. She replied by posting 2 more Obama slams in 5 minutes as a 'fuck you'.

I used to post thoughtful posts until I had to look at that bullshit every day. I can go to RushLimbaugh.com and get the same level of banality, innuendo, and smears. Not that I will.

But, I've discovered DailyKos - where actual discussions are held, and posters who are insistant about being assholes constantly are monitored by the readers themselves - weeding out trolls like Corky.

Email me when you think you can keep some semblence of balance on this site. You should remove the 'Yellow Dog Democrats' if you can't maintain a balance of opinion.

funny how the polls do not seem to agree with your blind love of Barry...even with McCain in the general election polls, and cannot ever seem to beat Hillary in the big ticket states that matter come Nov (CA has a few more electoral votes than Utah, for example)....we'll just see who gets the last laugh.
McCain '08!!

"After you cried like a little bitch...."

Jeez.

-Bill Clinton 2004

"If [Republicans] could cut funding for Medicare, Medicaid, education, and the environment, middle-class Americans would see fewer benefits from their tax dollars, feel more resentful paying taxes, and become even more receptive to their appeals for tax cuts and their strategy of waging campaigns on divisive social and cultural issues like abortion, gay rights, and guns."

-Barck Obama 2008
