I had a motorhome about 10 years ago- a Fleetwood Flair-25 ft. There were abundant warnings as to the presence of formaldehyde and that the unit was unfit for residency-only for brief outings. It was my understanding the the government, the same government that provided these units as housing, required the warnings be posted. Either the labels were removed, or the residents ignored them. After all, what choice did they have? They were homeless.

Don't You see what's happening folks. The Government is trying to worry us into our graves early so they can spend more money on bullshit. I mean really You wake up (Oh we can't use a certain type of slipper cause it might poison us) go take the morning wizz(Oh we can't use a certain type of toilet seat cause it might cause us to get cancerous growths upon our buttocks) then we get up and get a drink (Oh we can't use certain types of plumbing cause it MIGHT make us sick) and then we go make breakfast (Oh we can't cook on nonstick teflon cause it might cause us cancer so we have to use cast iron which will stick to the eggs we want for breakfast) and on and on and on it goes. For pete sakes We all gonna die it's how You want to live in between times that's important. God so many worry warts.

Spud saw a show the other day regarding these trailers. Apparently because they are unlivable they have been all collected together and stored in mass quantities at various sites. The news story in question involved people living within breathing distance of these death traps.
on hot days the formaldehyde fumes would come into their household and make people living there quite sick.

Spud still wants to know the names of the individuals responsible for the mass purchase of these trailers and why they are not all in jail.

LarryMohr, perhaps you should spend some time living in one of these trailers before arbitrarily discounting the reports and continuing your tirade against the Government. Just because you rant and rave against doesn't make it any less or more so.

If you would perform some thoughtful research, you would discover that, because of the high demand created by the need for housing after Katrina, the RV makers were faced with shortages of building materials produced domestically, thus were forced to turn to foreign manufacturers for product. These foreign manufacturers do not produce to the same standards as the US manufacturers, used cheaper and less safe materials. The first trailers to arrive in LA were fine. It was the later trailers that caused the problems.

Evidently, these problems with formaldehyde toxicity are evident in new RV products. So you can rant and rave all you want against the Government. You should be ranting and raving against the RV manufacturers that are evidently not resolving the problem themselves because it would mean a cut in their profits to produce a safer product.

So open the damn window once in a while

News flash. Anytime you have a bunch of new carpet and a bunch of foam insulation in a confined space there is an air quality problem. If the carpet sets in a wharehouse for a long time, the problem goes away.
