Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's faltering crackdown on Shiite militants has won the backing of Sunni Arab and Kurdish parties that fear both the powerful sectarian militias and the effects of failure on Iraq's fragile government. The emergence of a common cause could help bridge Iraq's political rifts.

continued support from those who support the soft partition of iraq is nothing new or surprising

How much money is the US footing for their support?

If true, this would be a good thing.

That's a big IF though. When the "backing" consists of more than statements to the press, and actually continues long enough to have an effect, I'll actually be impressed.

It does come just in time for the Congressional hearings and Petreus' testimony. Funny how that goes. I absolutely guarantee this will be used to counter criticisms that the Surge hasn't produced political gains.

Neither is your pessimism

try educating yourself on what is happening and than come back and talk

the kurds OF COURSE support what maliki did, his actions were to attack the nationalist entity-sadr

there is NOTHING new or surprising here.

it is only more fodder for those ignorant types who live and die by the propaganda shit they are fed.

this is of deminimous importance, a restatement of a group of likeminded groups. the struggle today in iraq is forming between those who see a strong nationalist iraq, a strong central govt, iraqi owned oil and outside nations out of iraq (nationalist Sunnis-baathist types, al sadr, etc) AND those who believe in strong provinces, weak central govt, privitized oil and long term foreign occupation (sciri, kurds, sunnis aligned and funded by Saudi Arabia-except those funded by the waahabis, etc), the former has the numbers (by a significant majority), the latter has the power-ie foreign military assistance (US), controls the government now, and has Kurdistan.

it will be interesting to see if sadr can turn his grass roots into real power come the next round of elections. he is also the key to the US getting out of iraq. he is the one force that represents getting the US out of iraq

Sunnis and Kurds agree!

Malarkey's forces killing other Shias is waaaay better than when his forces were killing Sunnis and Kurds.

How suprising is that to anyone?

The Kurds still want Independence.
The Kurds still want Kirkuk.
The Shia still hate the Sunnis
The Sunnis still hate the Shia.
The Turkomen are still scrabbling to survive the other group's infighting..
None of the four main groups want the US to remain.
The Army and Police forces are all still riddled with moles.
Sadr is still allied with Iran as is the SIIC.

This "The enemy of my enemy is also my friend" stuff is indeed touching but it is also temporary and not to be trusted.

It does come just in time for the Congressional hearings and Petreus' testimony. Funny how that goes.

Yup, just fuggin' hilarious.

Dollars to donuts.

Be Well.

one day the Bush people will just walk on stage, say, 'hey look- a rock'

and then run away before we can catch them....

so then lets also talk about the diyala province. the site of furious fighting not long ago now has silence broken with chickens crowing, not bombs going off and thousands of people who left have now returned.it was also a staging area for alqada and recently it was pronouced that alqaida was now gone.
the end of war in iraq?....please, but it is more good news.

Fucking waste of time, money, and American heroes. Fuck GW, Fuck Cheney, and fuck any stupid moron shithole that supports them.

More like Bribed support don't You??

Yeah, the Shiites are just streaming back into Diyala in droves. And to further support your assertions, here is what a Diyala rooster crowing sounds like --> Ka-Ka-Doodle, Ka-Ka-BOOM!

All kidding aside, it sure can get peaceful in an area, such as happened in Baghdad, when you just exercise the simple "fight or flight" principle. Shiites to Sunnis: fight for your homes/businesses in Baghdad and die, or run like hell. Yeah, once ethnically cleansed, an area can get soooo peaceful-like. Just like southeast America got when we killed off and drove those fucking Indians to Oklahoma on The Trail of Tears.

So now that the religious sects are conveniently divided geographically into peaceful units, they can all just simply join into a unified Iraq, equally sharing political power, natural resources, etc. Kind of like how America would do if China attacked America and then left with the USA geographically divided among ethnic African, Mexican and European Americans. It could be just like that.

Damn Diyala rooster doesn't like web links. Crow, you bastard! --> Ka-Ka-Doodle, Ka-Ka-BOOM!.

them damn roosters!

"We've been slaughtering shia for yars. I't about time the Americans and the maliki government got on board."

Sunni SheikYabootie bin jihad.

PS Where's my 300 bucks? Don't make me go all alqueda in Iraq on your infidel asses, again.

The U.S. military said separately that an American soldier was killed yesterday in a roadside bombing in the Diyala province north of Baghdad.

Baghdad, 4 April (AKI) - At least 15 people were killed and another 60 injured in a suicide attack on a funeral procession in the Iraqi province of Diyala, north of Baghdad, on Friday.

To quote Bush's idol-"some chicken, some crow".

Poor BLT, aka Moleman-reality never gives him a chance to spread his BS.

and how great for you guys....more americans killed. damn, you have to be just really happy that you can counter my post.
good for you.

your persistent stupidity in light of the facts amazes us all. congrats.

now maybe if you could possibly see clearly to change your wrong position and assist us in stopping this fiasco it would be appreciated, you can start by changing your name to bushhaterthree

of course since these deaths are meaningless to you, you truly are hopeless.

How in the hell is this going to help anything? WE FINALLY CAN AGREE ON THE GROUP THAT WE ARE GOING TO REPRESS! I feel like we've really come together since we all hate the same people.

Wow, Sunnis and Kurds like him and Shiites don't. Wake me up if something really happens.

By "separatists," we mean groups who oppose a unified Iraq with a strong central government; key figures like Maliki of the Dawa party, Shia leader Abdul Aziz Al-Hakeem of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq ("SCIRI"), Vice President Tariq Al-Hashimi of the Sunni Islamic Party, President Jalal Talabani -- a Kurd -- and Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdish Autonomous Region, favor partitioning Iraq into three autonomous regions with strong local governments and a weak central administration in Baghdad. (The partition plan is also favored by several congressional Democrats, notably Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware.)

again this alignment is nothing new nor suprising
