An Absolut vodka ad in the print edition of Quien magazine in Mexico City redraws the U.S./Mexico border, giving Mexico Texas, California and the rest of the southwestern U.S. The slogan: "In an Absolut World."

"Greater Finland" is great, considering it's a Swedish vodka!
People that are wound up about this should down a few shots and lighten up.

I , for one, will never purchase Absolute ever again.

Oi, now that was just dumb...

*not a vodka drinker, so not affected*

"I , for one, will never purchase Absolute ever again."

Don't be such an uptight maricon.

I knew it! Absolute is in favor or European domination. The map obviously means they want the US Southwest returned to Spain. They probably have one with the Louisiana Territory being returned to France and the colonies going back to England.

With the dollar in the crapper maybe it could happen. Guess I'd better learn French.

I don't agree with their politics but I do agree with their vodka.

" I don't agree with their politics but I do agree with their vodka."

As a rule, liquor is pretty a-political.

"As a rule, liquor is pretty a-political."

Except vodka. Vodka is communist. Absolute is absolutely communist. It should be obvious to everyone after viewing this ad.

Absolute is now my preferred brand.

Mr Putin said poor quality alcohol was contributing to the deaths of some 40,000 Russians each year.

So drink Absolut!

Azatlan is what this is called. It's half way there.

Actually, the map is a pretty good approximation of the 1846 boundary. Why they picked that one, I don't know.

Absolutely no Absolut!

Real men drink mescal.

The rest of you drink Absolut.

Gee, It a fucking AD what is the fucking wrong with you Right Wing ASSHOLES????

Hey! We stole that land fair and square! They signed a treaty after losing the war. They need to get over the fact that they lost and that that land is ours now.

They need to get over the fact that they lost and that that land is ours now.

Ditto for the South.

I tried some of that Irish vodka once, forgot the name of it though, but it was pretty good.

If it's not made from potatoes it's not the real thing. The Poles invested vodka and Luksusowa vodka is our favorite.

Remember the Alamo.

I tried some of that Irish vodka once, forgot the name of it though, but it was pretty good.

Boru Vodka ?

I LOVE IT!!! The irony is that the US illegally invaded that country and as it turns out the best we managed to do is reach an uneasy truce.. Today we see Mexico reclaiming the lands once "surrendered"... and the whole world is watching it happen. Almost as many people speak English as a second language here as they do in Me He Ko

Absolut stupidity!

The reconquista of Utah, Oregon and Idaho? I don't think so.

Besides, I bet Jose' Cuervo, Sr. Patrone and even Tia Maria would kick the living schlitz outta Sven and Helga.

On second thought, fuck it....let 'em have Idaho.

They can take the Dakotas too, Nothing funnier than a Sombrero and earmuff combo

The irony is that the US illegally invaded that country

Don't know much history do you? The US invaded nothing. The Mexican government claimed some land that had a smattering of colonists that it could not support or protect. these colonists wanted nothing to do with the Mexican government. After Texas won its independence (again, no invasion) and the US annexed Texas 10 years later, the Mexicans started a fight in Texas. The US did not start it.

After the Americans kicked mexican ass, they signed a treaty ceding lands defined by the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. later the Gadseden purchase (again ratified by Mexico) set the current borders.

The US invaded nothing -- legally or illegally. Get your facts straight.

Absolut is the most overpriced piss on the market. Proof that good advertising works. Most vodkas that aren't from russia or poland are horrible. Svedka is one exception and costs about half what absolut does.

Joe, I agree. What is the name of the potato vodka from Poland? I forget the name, but that was the best I ever had...there's prolly more than one, but I've only ever seen one at a bar.

Probably Chopin, that's the most popular. Good though it's wildly expensive.

Yup! That was it...and it is great! Makes absolute look like the ol' Milwaukee of vodkas.

Then again, so does Stoli and I do have to give Ketel One some props too.

I , for one, will never purchase Absolute ever again.

I second that.

I will never purchase or drink another Absolut product.

In fact, I am going to boycott Mexican products as well. (Except the chicks)

Cheers,
Walt

In fact, I am going to boycott Mexican products as well.

I can never make that promise. I drive to the border (Nuevo Laredo or Piegras Negras) about every 6 to 8 weeks for some shopping and getting stupid drunk in the cantinas on cheap tequila. I'll eat some cabrito (yes, I guess technically that makes me a cannibal) and pequins wrapped in hot corn tortillas. That's one part of my youth I can't quite outgrow. *grin*

yes, I guess technically that makes me a cannibal

WHAT! Please elaborate on that.

I am sticking with my boycott. I might even stop eating Mexican food made in America.

It's time for us to start waging a war on them.

Mexico is a big fat leech attached to the balls of America.

WHAT! Please elaborate on that.

cabrito is a mexican dish. Whole roasted baby goat. it is delicious.

Ahhhhh, now I get it.

Good Vodka has nothing to do with where it is produced but how many times it is filtered.

I watched an episode of mythbusters where they filters a group of ten identical bottles of vodka from 1 time to 10 times.

They brought in a vodka taster and sure enough he placed the vodkas in order from least filtered to most filters exactly as they had been filtered by the mythbusters.

The experiment showed absolutely that the more times you filter vodka the better it taste.

Bee Swell

Good Vodka has nothing to do with where it is produced but how many times it is filtered.

Good point. I think the same applies to Gin.

I saw a marathon about alcohol on Discovery or something.

Very interesting.

Cheers,
Walt

"Svedka is one exception and costs about half what absolut does."

Didn't think anyone else would know about Svedka.. Love it!

Okay people the best vodka is Ruski Standart Platinum. Hands down the best and still much cheaper than pretenders like Ketel 1 and Gray Goose. Also its not the filtering its the ingrediants and how quickly they distill the stuff that counts the most. Of course filtering improves but as they say garbage in/garbage out.

And for idgits like Danni and the rest it was a fucking joke. It's obvious you are utter racests against Mexicans to get so worked up over this. Mexicans can really care less about the previous boundaries.

If you want a real international incident? Have Absolut advertise in Hungary with pre-WW1 borders. It literally will cause a diplomatic incident with Slovakia and may get Slovakia to ban Absolut sales.

The US invaded nothing -- legally or illegally. Get your facts straight.

Posted by goatman

Exactly. The original invader was Cortes, who claimed the land for Spain.

Any claim from any Mexican that it is 'their' land is absurd. Mexicans are a mix of Indian blood and Spanish blood. The Indians did not consider themselves to be part of a larger whole, they kept to their own.

After Texas won its independence (again, no invasion)
Posted by goatman

More like a soft invasion. In fact, they did it pretty much the way the Mexicans are doing it now.
The first white people to settle in Texas were actually traitors who left America for free land in a foreign country.
www.glo.state.tx.us
Then when Mexico stopped the program and said they wanted no more white people, Whitey got pissed and just stole the whole place.

why so surprised this is your future

I was never a vodka drinker, but isn't Stolichnoya (?) considered the best vodka?

Sorry, Absolute is the best vodka for a nice vodka martini. Chopin is excellent, 3 olives is ok, Stolis is good, svedka is passable, the rest is anti-freeze

Why in the hell would you want to boycott Absolut for telling the truth, if you don't like the truth, change it.

Second, Absolut was just bought out by a French company, so it ain't swedish no more.

I doubt that the "invading hordes" of Mexicans really want to turn parts of the US back into parts of Mexico after they live here for a while. They probably live better here in the US than they ever could have in their backwards banana republic and I bet most of them realize it. They ought to go back to Mexico and cease the reigns of power and kick some aristocratic ass. We would then see an influx of rich Mexicans, bringing as much of their wealth as they can transport, into the US.

They ought to go back to Mexico and cease the reigns of power and kick some aristocratic ass.

I agree, if the CIA is going to finance and direct insurrection, why don't they do it there?

Man I really need to learn my vodkas. I have never had Chopin or Svedka or Stolis.

When I make a martini (dry and dirty with green olives) I usually go for Sky Vodka.

I have researched allot on actually distilling it myself. From what I have read it is pretty much all about filtering.

I have a full sized keg for the pot. I just need to get all the hardware rounded up and build it. Probably tackle that come winter.

Second, Absolut was just bought out by a French company, so it ain't swedish no more.

Well that is just 1 more damn good reason to boycott it!

Fuck Absolut and Fuck the Frogs!!!

Cheers,
Walt

Actually, the map is a pretty good approximation of the 1846 boundary. Why they picked that one, I don't know.

Posted by LetUsPrey

I guess europe should go back to that year for their boundries too.

Ketel One is my favorite among the expensive vodkas. There's a polish one for about $15 called Kapitanska, great if you can find it.

"They probably live better here in the US than they ever could have in their backwards banana republic and I bet most of them realize it."

Danni,

you are so ignorant it brings tears to my eyes. Many Mexicans live well of in Mexico and better than you. And they have absolutely no urge to move to the US. You should check out Mexico City but then you are too racist for that aren't you? The migrant works who come to the US are just that MIGRANT workers who grew up farming. You are not going to see Mexican professions toiling in California farms. God you are clueless and racist.

Walt,

The next time you are at duty free someplace in Europe look for Ruski Standart Platinum. You will thank me.

Many Mexicans live well of in Mexico and better than you

many do, not not very many, furio.

I vacation a lot in Mexico because it's close and cheap. For the most part the only nice places are the tourist towns. Even the best part of the border towns which are more influenced by an influx of US$ is worse than than the lower classes in American cities.

Get over there away from Cozumel and Acapulco. You'll see a completely different Mexico. Danni is right.

"I guess europe should go back to that year for their boundries too."

Wouldn't be a bad idea for the middle east, either.

Maybe we could give Utah and Texas back to Mexico, raising - as Will Rogers might have said - the median IQ in both nations. herm

Why is it that everyone who wants to break up this great nation is a liberal?

Goatman,

I worked in Mexico City for a couple of months. That's the real Mexico along with Monterrey for example. Yep there is poverty but there are many well off Mexicans who have no urge to give up their lives to work for a bunch of fat gringos for less money than they make in Mexico. The people you see coming to the US are the poorest migrant workers from Mexico.

Tha was just stupid. I guess there are more Absolut drinker in Mexico than in the US. Why else would they do something so dumb? Sure, it doen't mean squat but the number one rule in advertising is don't do anything that could piss off a customer. This just pissed off a few million of them.

GOATMAN

Ever been to Zihuatanejo? I went there the first time around 1980. Sleepy fishing village. It's grown up a little bit, but still a really cool hang.

We still need to take that trip to Ensenada (or south) one of these days

The people you see coming to the US are the poorest migrant workers from Mexico.

Yes they are. But Danni is still right in her 9:58

We still need to take that trip to Ensenada (or south) one of these days

That would be fun. Mazatlan is a beautiful city and cheap since everyone seems to want to go to the Caribbean side and not the Pacific. Last October I stayed at a very nice hotel/resort
Pueblo Bonito for 6 days/5 nights, air fare included for $750. Granted it was off season (october) but that doesn't bother me. The shopping is better then anyway.

If you go to Puerto Vallarta the place to stay is downtown (tourist hotels are a cab ride north of town).

The hotel is called The Tropicana. Rooms $25 a night. Large, red tiled floors with large balconies right on the beach and walking distance from everything. All the tourists have to take a 1-1 1/2 mile cab ride whenever they want to go to town. The tower section of the Tropicana goes up I think 10 floors. Last time I was there I stayed on the 8th floor. What a view! Above Puerto Vallarta are mountainous jungles and Mayan villages. Lots of neat places to go poke around.

I can give you a couple other places I like too sometime, and I'm sure you could recommend some too.

When I go to one of the Mexican beach towns I like to eat at the out of the way mom and pop restaurants mostly. Food's cheap, service incredible, and usually better than the tourist fare. I do like to load up on lobster wherever I go though.

I'd like to hit La Paz again one day. At the southern tip of Baja. The thing stopping me is that I wouldn't travel it alone or with my wife. Banditos. Last time I went I went with a friend who lives in Rosarito Beach and had a nice shiny fully loaded Magnum 357. It's an incredible drive down there. Once you get out of Ensenada it gets really remote. I'd never drive it at night with or without a gun.

I think we talked one time about La Bufadora, the huge blowhole around the peninsula from Ensenada. South of there are hundreds of miles of open beach. Funny thing is you can stop at a deserted beach and 4 minutes later some guy comes to charge you for 'parking' LOL Everybody's gotta make a buck I guess.

I, too, eat at the mom and pops in Mexico, same as I do in the US. That's where you'll find the best food usually. The big Mexican food chains can't make it in San Antonio for that reason; the mom and pops are far superior.

I'm not surprised that there are some Americans who are upset that Absolut has redrawn the US border. What I am surprised at is that those very Americans even know where the border should be in the first place.

The things people get themselves worked up about. Its just a joke people, get over yourselves.

Words really cant express how much I hate SA, Goat.
But they do have some good texmex there.

Mexican food is great. Tex-Mex is a joke.

Words really cant express how much I hate SA,...

But they do have some good texmex there.

I've never even been to Texas but why do you hate San Antonio? Did you used to live there?

I did live there still do really although I am from and currently work in Austin. Now Austin is paradise on earth. Many parts of San Antonio are 3rd worldish. But pretty much anything outside the loop is nice. Pay in SA is crap. Dunno, what else do ya want to know?

Salaryman

Thanks. You answered my question. Was just curious why you hated it. Sounds as though you'd much rather be living back in Austin!

Eventually I'll be moving out of California -- cost of living is very hig and it's more crowded than ever. Even a one bedroom apt. in my town (a suburb of L.A.) rents at a very minimum of $950 a month. Affordable homes don't exist in this state. I think you can get a much better deal on buying a home elsewhere -- maybe in the mid-West or somewhere. Don't know how much homes run on the East coast but then you have to consider property tax and heating bills. Not sure what state gives you the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to buy a house in a nice city. Guess every city and state has it's pros and cons, right?

Pay may be lower than Austin, but COL is much lower, too. I live in an 1800 ft^2 house the usual 3/2/2/ on two lots. I paid $105k for it three years ago. I was looking in the PRA area as well at the time. Same home in comparable parts of town was min $135k. Usually more.

I work offshore so I can live anywhere in the US I want since the company pays to fly me to New Orleans and back home each hitch. All the cities to choose from in the US, I chose SA. Low cost of living, very nice people, nice culture, etc. I work with two different guys who have moved down here from Round Rock and Georgetown in the last couple of years. They are amazed how much further their money goes. I think they were glad to put the liberals behind them as well. *grin*

Chris,
If you want a nice laid back Orange County feel check out Austin. Disclaimer: I did not get to spend that much time there but I immediately felt at home in Costa Mesa so I always think of Orange County as cool and laid back. LA on the other hand was like stepping through the gates of hell. In fact you might say that for me at least SA and LA have the same feel to them.

(((((ALERT!!)))))

LIBERALS! CHEAP HOUSING IN SAN ANTONIO!! I REPEAT, CHEAP HOUSING IN SAN ANTONIO!!

((((((FIRE SALE ALARM))))))

ALL LIBERALS!! MOVE TO SAN ANTONIO!!

Goatman,

aren't property taxes quite high in Texas? Compensates for lack of state taxes.

Chris,

Have you ever looked into NC or SC? Good job market and Unis for masters plus relatively low rent/house prices. Of course why buy now? YOu do pay for aircon in summer but Texas much hotter

LOL, AU! But they pretty much stay away. The closest they get is Austin and they own that city. I think it's the military here that scares 'em.

Goat,
That COL is catching up real quick, and if you want to live in the "que pretty" parts you gonna shell out some cash. Food and gas are the same cost as is entertainment. I'm too po to even consider owning a ho,e so I don't know how the property taxes compare. But why don't we split the difference and say New Brunsfels or San Marcos is the place to be?

Chris,

Nashville rocks too. Affordable housing, perhaps a little more expensive than SA, but low property taxes, utilities, no income tax, good climate year round (Hot as a firecracker in July and August), nice people, lots of music.

And there are liberals, moderates, and conservatives here who all manage to get along too.

13 Universities and Colleges in town. Clean, safe, and as I said friendly. Honk and people will wave at you thinking you are someone they know.

1 bedrooms in a nice complex start at about $600 a month.

You have a tour guide just about any city you check out including Nashville :-)

Very few Mexicans compared to the SW too.

Coming soon to a theater near you:

(whispery, anxious low voiced movie trailer voiceover)

"The town was blood red. They came from everywhere (conservatives screaming and pointing at Kerry bumperstickers).

2010: Solid Blue

(voiceover)

"It will chill your conservative blood 'til it's blue"

Rated R for Republican

Chris,

Have you ever looked into NC or SC?

No, I hadn't. Have just started tossing around ideas of where to move when I might have to leave California but might be worth checking out.

Unbelievable value for two lots and an 1800 sq.ft. home.
I can't even begin to tell you what the same thing would cost you in Southern California.

AU

Nashville does sound interesting. And I'll have a personal tourguide too - thanks! But don't want to rent an apt. -- just tossing money down the drain. Would check out houses first.

As for your comment:

Very few Mexicans compared to the SW too.

Really, I wish you'd drop comments like that. I could care less about who lives next door to me as long as they are decent neighbors -- and hopefully speak enough English where at least I could get to know them. My neighbors around here are from all over the place and seem to be all pretty nice folks.

You guys want to cry about rent? I may be heading to London at some point this year. looking at $3000 a month for a 1-bed in decent location. Of course the salaries are higher than US but still.

I'll stick with San Antonio. Granted, I put down 70% on that house, but my payment is only $255/mo. $3,000/mo is...well, $3,000/mo!

Goatman,

Do you remember the Vodka they sold at the NEX (Navy Exchnage)?

It was called NEX Vodka and a gallon cost about 2.50!

As long as you didn't START with that shit and only used it to maintain a good buzz, it was tolerable.

I , for one, will never purchase Absolute ever again.

You, for one, need to get laid.

May I reccomend Ketel One as a reasonably priced but good quality vodka.

Much better then Absolut

Absolut is shite.

I'd drink it if I was drinking again But I ain't drinking again so I ain't drinking it.

Nope, you're the one full of shit, skank. I know my texas history quite well. I'm well read on it, live right in the middle of where it took place, and visited many of the others.

Yep, I switched to days this week.

We finished a well (a very lucrative one from what I hear) 4 weeks ago, but during the completion phase it started to collapse. I don't understand how that can happen since the hole is lined with iron casing and is cemented in, but I know they been flying specialists in and bringing in all kinds of weird equipment by boat.

I'm not that keen on the drilling side; I just make sure their electronic shit works. So I don't fully understand the problems they are having with this well. We were supposed to have moved to a new location three weeks ago, but we didn't.

Sometimes when you don;'t have perspective, the truth eludes you.

Fact is fact. The Mexicans have accomplished the reconquista. Although the Mexicans who have done it with their feet and fecundity, are not related to any of the Mexicans who "lost" the region to white folk.

Viva la reconquista. Henceforth the official language of the American Southwest is Spanish. If you don't like it you can emigrate to an area where Spanish speakers do not predominate.

Chinga te y tu madre, cabron. You've had it gringo. You don't like it? There's nothing you can do about it except a mass deportation, and you don't have the cojones for that. Also, we'd tie you up in your idiotic court system for so long that there'd be a new generation of us who are American born. So long as you retain jus soli to determine citizenship, you've lost. Loser.

Gringos are losers. In a democracy, numbers are the determinant, and we produce better than you do.

Suck it up.

Ahora, el barrio es la nacion.

La raza es el conquistador.

When you win wars you get the spoils..

That said I can't drink vodka much because once I start I keep going until the whole thing is gone..

Mixing with cranberry, tonic or other lmon/lime mix totally masks the taste. I've been known to drink a pint in 2 drinks.

Besides vodka is usually the last stop before Betty Ford..

I watched a friends dad growing up(who died of alcoholism) make bubbles in a plastic fifth until it was almost gone... He thought coyotes were in the back yard trying to kill him.

Has anyone seen these machines that turn alcohol into a gas and you inhale it like a bong hit? I heard about them a couple of years ago.

Stay away from NC - It is a horrible place to live with it's unbearable climate, horrible food, sub standard housing, expensive COL., etc. You're much better off moving to CA!

But if you must move to NC and Liberal then you should move to Onslow or Harnett counties, they are very 'Green' there.

I'll be in there air most of tomorrow - how's the weather been in Seattle? I haven't packed yet - been too busy chasing wife around the house.

I'd be curious myself as to the effects, I'm shocked I haven't seen them in Houston (midtown).

Has anyone seen these machines that turn alcohol into a gas and you inhale it like a bong hit? I heard about them a couple of years ago.

Haven't seen them but did hear about them awhile ago. From the website linked below it appears a single-user AWOL costs $299 plus $15 shipping and you only need to plug it in. The link below shows the kit.

What I'd like to know is if one would test positive for alchohol if you merely inhaled it thru this device as opposed to swallowing the liquor. I can see where it would certainly have its benefits. Plus the "no hang over" is a big plus.

Thanks for the advice (err, warning?) about not moving to NC.
As for being better off moving to CA? I already live there now.

Of course I was just kidding. I decided to stay in NC after the Corps because of the people, climate, cost of living, etc. We have a nice mix of people bot ignorant and educated, rich and poor, liberal and conservative, etc. But much like the rest of NC there's moderation in all of it. I typically fly to IAH every Mon-Thur and it is very nice to return to NC especially now since it's starting to get warm in Houston again.

BTW - Onslow county (Camp Lejeune, Camp Johnson)
Harnett County (Ft. Bragg)

From your article it apparently takes 20 minutes of inhaling the vapors of the alcohol with the AWOL machine to equal 1/2 to 1 shot of booze.

You haven't seen these AWOL's in Houston -- nor will you probably see them anywhere else used commercially. The bars wouldn't make enough money (takes too long to get their customers high) and there is no profit margin in it for them. The bars/restaurants would make a lot more bucks just pouring regular shots out of a bottle. I can see where this device might be great for a person who wanted it for their own individual use to use when they felt like a drink but didn't want to drink actual alcohol for whatever reason.

Crap - they're marketed by Spirit Partners, Inc., which is about 40 minutes from me in Greensboro, NC. Maybe I'll have to drop by there and see if there's a showroom.

As a nearly 10 year white resident of a Los Angeles neighborhood with a large Latino population, I have to say that the "Aztlan" horror stories are almost completely b.s. Of Latinos in about their 30's or younger, every single one I know now and have ever known uses Spanish mainly when conversing with their parents and grandparents. Otherwise, they use English almost exclusively, listen to American pop and other Enlgish language music, and watch the same Hollywood movies and television shows as everyone else. I cannot speak Spanish, but have never felt any inconvenience whatsoever in LA because of the fact that I speak only English. Admit it... your fears regarding "illegal" immigrants have more to do with the fact that they are brown than the fact that they have a background from countries that are not English-speaking. If the "illegal immigrants" coming to the US were German or British, they wouldn't be "illegal" because the US would simply expand the scope of its immigration laws and allow them in.
