Republicans in the U.S. Congress, trying to appear frugal with taxpayer dollars this election year, found on Wednesday that some in their own ranks topped a list of "pork" spenders in a watchdog group's analysis of government waste. The annual survey by Citizens Against Government Waste claims that 11,610 special-interest projects were stuffed into spending bills approved by the Democratic-led Congress last year at a $17.2 billion cost to taxpayers.

Those damn tax and spend Democra....oh.

Either you spend or you are with the terrorists.

The DeLay legacy lives on...

"As for the three U.S. senators running for president: Republican John McCain had no earmarks last year, while Democrats Hillary Clinton delivered 281 projects to her home state of New York, costing $296.2 million, and Barack Obama had 53 projects totaling $97.4 million."

man some of the crap they put through. Golf, seriously golf oh and lobster, what are they thinking?

At least there is one reason to support McCain. The other 71 bums need to be thrown out!

The Senate voted 71-29 against the ban late Thursday night.3/14/08

"There's only one place left in America that they don't get it," McCain told a town hall gathering outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, referring to Washington. "Pork-barrel spending is out of control and Americans want it stopped."

He said the result "is an interesting commentary on how the Congress and the Senate [are] disconnected from the American people."

Group Finds 11,610 Pork Projects

Time to send in the Hasidic warriors 'cause that just ain't Kosher

When is it going to sink in to you people that Congress is hell bent on spending this country into bankruptcy? They won't stop until they run out of money. That means when the purchasing power of the dollar shrinks to zero. They don't care.

McCain fiddling on peanuts as he sells out US for Bush Inc to Israel...figures

Israel hosts NATO naval drill

Israel has been shoring up ties recently with NATO as part of preparations for any future showdown with Iran.

www.jta.org

"Forgive me, but where in the NATO mandates or charter does it say anything about its working with Israel against Iran in a potential military confrontation?
And where does that put NATO relative to its already chilly relations with Russia?

"The NATO high command had better do some really critical thinking right now.

"Because if they don't they just may get suckered into an Israeli "false flag" operation (of course, blamed on Iran), from which there can be no retreat, putting NATO on a military collision course with Russia." says M.R.

The more government spends, the less the people have for themselves.

"The general sense that America's economy is slowing looks even more prescient after the United States Labor Department reported an unexpected hike in jobless claims Thursday. In addition, the American Bankers Association concurred, as it announced the highest levels of consumer delinquency since 1992.

"On Thursday, the Labor Department reported that last week's initial U.S. jobless claims were the highest since September 2005, jumping to 407,000 from last week's revised 369,000. Continuing claims were 2.94 million, up from 2.86 million. Economists polled by Reuters had anticipated initial jobless claims to increase to 370,000 in the week ending March 29. The news comes on the eve of Friday's March employment data, the first government economic report for the month."

This government has baggage. Waste is waste.

Wow, can I find out how much light it takes to turn my aquarium green?

LOL!

Oink Oink!

This is a fucking Joke, what some call Pork is necessary for the States to get some of there money back from the Federal Goverment. All of the large States are taxed way out of wack, to support the smaller populated States.

What we have here folk is Large Blue State, like California, New york, New Jersey, are paying for the support of Red States like Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky. For every Dollar that California pays to the Federal Goverment they get Pennies back while these small States that have long serving Representatives are getting Monies way out of there contributions.

This is what the idiots in these smaller States want to call Pork, as if it is somehow unfair that these larger States get some of there money back.....

With the Democrats in charge who would a thunk it!

Bee Swell

With a REPUBLICAN pResident who signs off on the pork spending.

Larry Mohr

Obama Hussein's culturally inherent revulsion of pork would be the only reason I'd entertain the possibility of voting for him.

That would be change I could believe in.

Goddamn America.

o8Bama O-ate!

Well, it's your fault for not voting. As far as I'm concerned, if anyone I had voted for won, we wouldn't be having this problem. But the same crooks get voted in time and time again. Partially because folks like you don't vote.

"When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the Republic." - Benjamin Franklin.

Anyone who pretends to be outraged by this but continues to vote for Democrats or Republicans is a pathetic phony. I noticed the typical major party cheerleaders are nowhere to be found in this thread. I am ashamed of the direction America is going. Ray is right - Congress won't stop until our dollar is worth nothing, and at that point they'll blame it on everyone but themselves and the federal reserve.

Didn't the Dems run on the promise to stop or at least slow down all this? Cripe, they cannot even stop the Repub from spending. You would think they would at least be able to do that... Just another example of how pathetic this congress is.

Clinton and Obama want to say that McCain has no plan for the econonmy. Hmmm, which will help more, raising taxes to give the banks and mortgage companies a bailout or cutting gov spending?

I am thinking that McCain has a better plan. Smaller gov is better.

Talk about disconnected, they want to tax us out of a ression.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years."
Alexander Tytler

CEL...That goes to the crux of the problem. The feds are sucking up money from the states, then using it for control and personal power.
Drinking age, and MJ are just two examples of the feds withholding funds to control states ...on states rights issues. Corruption and control.

I'll remind this chap again. I voted straight Republican from Goldwater to Reagan's first term because I believed the Republicans were the party of small government. When I saw Reagan go on a spending binge, I never trusted the word of a politician again.

Voting is useless because your choices are limited to what they give you - all bad choices. This term, the choices are worse than ever. Politics is like religion. No one gets the support of the party unless they can be trusted to expand the power of the state.

If you have to vote, vote anyone in a third party or write your name in. Anything but the two major parties. From my view, the Powers would be shit scared if they held an election and nobody came. Then begin to structure your life to reduce dependence on government as much as you practically can.

The secret to how they amass so much power is: they need you to need them. Once they have you hooked, you're like a junkie who can't get by without a regular fix.

There is no other way to take their power away except by reducing your dependency on them.

If you have to vote, vote anyone in a third party or write your name in.

I certainly won't ever vote Dem or Rep unless it is a person with the characteristics and beliefs of Ron Paul.

Everybody talks about the presidential candidates and completely overlook the 535 idiots who have forged empires during DECADES of occupying seats in Congress. Who really wield the power in D.C., one man who spends a maximum of eight years or the senators and representatives who have been there for almost a half century? We're gonna REELECT 98% of them AGAIN in November.

"Roger Wicker of Mississippi, who recently became a U.S. senator, and Rep. Bill Young of Florida. The two scored $176.3 million and $169.5 million in earmarks respectively, beating Murtha's $159.1 million."

You notice that these guys aren't presidential candidates. They, and the others like them need to go TOO, not just Bush who couldn't find his veto pen for 7 years.

We're gonna REELECT 98% of them AGAIN in November.

It was a running joke during Cold War days. Congress has less of a turnover than the Soviet Politburo.

What is says to me is that voters realize that their representatives need seniority to bring money into their respective state. The voting process is essentially a spoils system. The winner is the highest bidder. Voters get what they vote for. Now they are beginning to suffer for it.

Ron Paul explained why he still brings pork to his district and it made sense. Basically, he said that pork was going to be created and that as the representative of his district he was duty bound to bring home his district's share. Ending pork barrell politics is a job for leadership, we need a change in how bills are put together to prevent attachments that are not directly related to the main subject of the bill. Individual Congressmen can't stop bringing home the bacon until the rest do or else he/she will simply be replaced by someone who will bring home the bacon. Even Ron Paul knows this and we all recognize him to be very against the principle of pork barrel politics.

SO.............. Now that the dems control both houses why don't they do away with the practice????

John McBush says we can't afford projects in America cause we need the money to piss away in Iraq for the next hundred years.
17.2 billion in pork would cover, what six months of Bush's Excellent Iraq Adventure?
Of course, this is the same clown who is willing to send Americans to die so Iraqis can have socialized medicine, but thinks Americans aren't worth providing it to.

Liberman needs to call the Hasidic "Pork Patrol".

At the very end of the article's last page:

"As for the three U.S. senators running for president: Republican John McCain had no earmarks last year, while Democrats Hillary Clinton delivered 281 projects to her home state of New York, costing $296.2 million, and Barack Obama had 53 projects totaling $97.4 million."

I'd like to see how much they earmarked each year, not just the last one, for every year they've been in office.

Tax + Spend = Socialist, regardless of party affiliation.

FairTax = Fix Problem in long haul

Ron Paul = Luddite

FairTax = Fix Problem in long haul

No chance without fixing the spending problem first.

That means voting out most of Congress.
Idiots will look at the Presidential candidates and pull one lever, voting in all the garbage.

I'd prefer removal of the single lever voting and just list the names, but switch the columns of the parties or remove party names. This way, you have to know the name to vote, not just the party.

Ray,

If you make the tax process more transparent, it would help you fix the spending problems.

"Tax + Spend = Socialist, regardless of party affiliation."

Whereas you have to Borrow + Spend to be a Republican.

Borrow and spend at as never before seen astronomical levels with nothing to show for it

Petreous

McCain's voted for a trillion dollars in spending for Iraq. 250 million is chump change in comparison. 1/4000th that amount.

Whereas you have to Borrow + Spend to be a Republican.

I guess no democrat has ever done that.

Who raided the social security trust fund and put it in the general budget so he could usr that money to fight a unpopular war?

Answer LBJ

"I guess no democrat has ever done that."

You're joking, right? How can you argue for the guys who finished out of the running when you're holding the Gold, the Silver & the Bronze?

WTF are you talking about????

How many democratic presidents have we had since 1900? Make a F*****G guess.

How many of them contributed to the deficit? All have!!!

"WTF are you talking about????"

If you want to talk spending, and/or deficits, the Republicans hold the top three spots. What you're doing is claiming the Democrats are the fastest...if you don't count the guys who finished first, second, and third in the footrace.

"How many of them contributed to the deficit? All have!!!"

And how many have increased the debt load on America by 50% in just one administration?

Only one: George W. Bush, and his merry band of rubber-stamp Republicans.
