Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Ted Turner formed a $200 million partnership Tuesday with Lutherans and Methodists to fight malaria, apologizing for his past criticism of religion as he announced the effort. Years ago, the CNN founder called Christianity a "religion for losers." He also wrote his own version of the 10 Commandments and asked CNN employees who commemorated Ash Wednesday whether they were "Jesus freaks," saying they should work for Fox. He apologized at the time.

Fuck Turner,but not his money...

Ted, we all make mistakes. Welcome aboard.

Ted, you've proven yourself to be an even bigger idiot that previously thought.

Religion is a crutch.

Due to lack of interest in this thread it will be traded to the Atlanta Braves in consideration for a 3 way with Barbarella aboard a dilapidated yacht.

FF fer a Scotch!

Religion is a crutch.

Let me ask you something, commonsense. Why do you give a shit what others believe in? You call it a crutch like that's a bad thing. So, lets say that many people DO use it as just a crutch, and assume that you are right and their is no God. What are the negative affects it is having on these crippled people?

If having faith in something larger than themselves helps them lead a happier, healthier, and more productive life, then just what the hell is wrong with that? You say it as a criticsm, which would mean it's a bad thing but I see no ill affects of people having faith. So why do you even give a shit?

Or, is this some statement that you are somehow better than those with faith, since you don't need this 'crutch'?

I'd vote "b" on that one Everlong...only because I agree with you...today's leftie is a self-assuming asshole,for sure.

Everlong,

I have no problem with people having religion, as I grew up in a religious household. Christianity is a noble religion and does alot of good in the world. I do mind, however, when religion is used on the (how shall I put it) less knowledgeable people to further a political agenda, which is against their own well being.

Ahhh, the religionists exhibiting typical addict behavior.
I am completely in favor of freedom of religion and the legalization of drugs. Is there really any difference?

You present valid points so let me give you an answer. When it comes to faith people die for it. People kill for it. They ignore fact to support it. They champion ignorance to defend it. And worst of all they teach their children to do the same. Faith is a disease; a dysfunction of the mind and of society as a whole. Faith is a dangerous irrationality that has cost millions of lives and will cost millions more. Faith deserves no respect. Faith deserves to be cured.
We are fighting a war in Iraq which is bankrupting the country, ruining our reputation all over the world, all because we disagree on who has the most powerful invisible friend.

If faith is going to be "cured," as you say, it will only ever happen from within the faith community. If faith is a dangerous irrationality, how do you think dangerously irrational people will respond to somebody telling them their belief system needs to be cured? It will be a defensive response, a polarizing response. Similar defensive responses would occur toward religious reformers as well, but they will have far more success, however slow, changing minds toward the better than you, or the very small minority that make up atheists, ever will.

Maybe that's because they don't operate from the stance that the people who need changing are dangerously irrational idiots, and will actually converse with them on a level of respect that many atheists, such as yourself, are unable to show.
